No Exchange Pre Deployment Analyzer?
Hi
I am looking to deploy Exchange 2013 and I cannot see any evidence of an exPDA package. Is there not one for 2013?
This was really useful for Exchange 2003 to 2010 and highlighted three issues which were resolved pre-install.

Currently, there is no official documents about the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer for Exchange 2013.
The tools that we can use when we decide to install Exchange 2013 have been suggested above.

AndreasI followed this and wacked a bunch of interfaces, rebooted several times, tried running installer as administrator, and tried installing when logged in as a different user. All failed. Looking deep in c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log, it was complaining during device install:

I opened up Device Manager, View | Hidden Devices. I found under Network Adapters a hidden "Unknown device". Right click, removed it, then VPN client installed flawlessly.
I was having re-installation issues since I uninstalled AnyConnect to see if it was interfering with a Windows Update. It wasn't, and then I couldn't reinstall it. But, removing that Unknown Device did the trick. -

No to the Do you want all users to use their on-premises credentials when they log on to their Exchange Online mailbox? question when I get to the
Before You Begin section it always shows my answer to that question as being
Yes.
Any ideas? Can I simply ignore the sections that relate to AD FS as I work through the steps?

Single sign-on allows users in both the on-premises organization and the Exchange Online organization to access resources and features across the two organizations without being prompted for additional user credentials. Single sign-on is configured for
a hybrid deployment using identity federation and Active Directory synchronization. If you're planning to have on-premises users access Exchange Online accounts using the Outlook mail client or planning to implement Exchange Online Archiving,
we strongly recommend selecting Yes for this question and deploying single sign-on in your on-premises organization.
It seems that this is the reason why Yes has been selected.

Exchange 2010 RTM Analyzer giving domain prep error but version number is correct?
I have recently inherited an Exchange 2010 Standard server environment, which appears to be running RTM and unpatched.
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21)
When I run Best Practice Analyzer, it gives an error message, claiming that an unrecognized Exchange signature for the domain. The signature it detects is 12639, but MS' list of Exchange Signatures for Exchange 2010 appear to be:
Exchange Server 2010: 12769
Exchange Server 2010 SP1: 13040
So I'm not sure why Exchange Best Practice Analyzer is claiming that the signature is unrecognized? Is this a known issue? I am preparing to upgrade the server to Service Pack 3, but I don't want to attempt the upgrade if BPA is still claiming

Based on my knowledge, the above error is a known issue in Exchange 2010 RTM and it won't cause any risk. You can upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3.

Deployment application Pre-deploy setting
HI all , i have basic questtaion about deployment application .
If I select in the deplyment types "Install for system if resource is device ; otherwise install for user" and "Wheather or not a user is logged on" and deployment collection is user and pre-deploy is checked is the program istall only
to primary device or every computer where user logon ?

Pre-Deploy JAR files to JRE Cache in Windows
We are looking to build an SMS installer to pre-deploy all controls for our application to our end-users desktops. The application is Siebel.
Several of the controls are in JAR files and we want to pre-deploy these into the Java Cache via the SMS installer, as we block all control downloads from websites (both internal and external) including JAR as a matter of security policy.
The JAR files look like they should go to
C:\Documents and Settings\WindowsUserName\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar
but there appears to be associated files that we can't create.
How can we do this? Any guidance appreciated.

Unable to download anyconnect-gina-win-2.5.2017-pre-deploy-k9.msi from Cisco
I am looking to download an older version of the Cisco AnyConnect Start Before login module. The filename is anyconnect-gina-win-2.5.2017-pre-deploy-k9.msi.Cisco no longer has the download link on their website. The oldest version they have is 6005.
Upgrading to a newer version is not an option as it is a huge project to upgrade 10000+ machines.
I called Cisco Support and they told me that I would need to post in these forums to receive the file. It didn't make much sense to me but I'm posting. Is anyone able to help?

Sizing a very small Exchange 2013 deployment
Hi,
I'm currently running Exchange 2007 SP3 on Windows 2003 so I'm starting the process of migrating to Exchange 2013. Our current Exchange 2007 configuration is very small with 31 users and an Exchange mailbox size of around 100 GB right now. Our current
Exchange 2007 box has a Xeon CPU with hyper-threading so I've got two CPUs and it has 6 GB of memory. I've got two Raided drives for the C and D with the Exchange 2007 software and mailbox on the D drive. The performance of this server is adequate though it's
beginning to get a little slow. We also have an SCR replica server that is virtualized.
So I'm trying to figure out what would be an appropriate new server size should be and I've looked at all the server sizing information and looked at the Microsoft provided sizing calculator workbook but even the smallest example is for a server with 1000
users which is clearly way more than what I have.
Given what I've read, I was going to go with the following hardware:
- New very fast Xeon CPU with at least 8 cores
- 16 GB of memory, possibly 24 GB
- Raided drives for the C, and D, and possibly an E drive to separate the database and log files. Probably 250 GB for the OS and 1 TB each for the data drives.
Any thoughts on this? Also if anyone has any links for sizing that are a little more specific to smaller deployments that would be very helpful.

CUP & Memory (24GB) should be good as you only have very few users to handle.
On the Disk, Make sure they are Fast & The recommended RAID configuration for mailbox drive is RAID-1/0

Pre deploy applications sccm 2012

I have a question regarding deployment of software. Current layout is as follows : 2200 machines ranging from always on desktops to about 400 only laptop users. We use SCCM 2012 to deploy applications etc. I am currently updating java and Imprivata
Single Sign On. Regardless the process is to remove the old versions of JAVA , install a newer one , once that is complete lay down a newer version of Single Sign-On which requires a reboot. Since one depends on a another we decided that this is the best opportunity
to update both. Anyway I push the software out to to machine collections as all machines need this regardless of users.
I cant get the laptops that go home for the day , since I can't deploy during the day the machines are not getting this update. There is a setting within SCCM that allows a deployment to be " predeployed" to the users machine. Is there anyway
I can utilize that to apply to the machines so that even when a laptop is offline the content is already pre-deployed to the machine so all that needs to happen is ; a deadline to be set
and the clients to be configured to automatically install required software after business hours ? I can push a script that would copy the installation files to the machines and kick of a script or a scheduled task to install the updates ,
or many other ways. But I really wanted to use SCCM and since I noticed that check box for pre deplyment of content to the users machine seems like what I want. But since it targets users primary device and I am deploying to a device collection targeting machines
not users it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas ? Is this possible ?I have looked at Powershell deployment toolkit as it offers users the ability to snooze installs etc. But I don't have the time to adjust my deployment to this format as my deadline is coming up. But going back to your comment about packages having the ability
to pre download content , wow that is awesome - huge limitation on application types in my opinion. Let me walk you through my mind set to see if I got the logic down please.
1) I set the Scheduling on a deployment to a set deadline of 11/5/2014.
2) On the User Experience tab I set the following 2 check boxes : When the installation deadline is reached , allow the following activities to be performed :
a) Install Software
b) System restart if required to complete the installation - ( Do I need to set this if my deployment type : User Experience tab has the setting set of " Configuration manager client will force a mandatory device restart "
3) With regards to Maintenance Window and Work Hours do I need to worry about anything here ? I know that if the deadline is set to a time where the maintenance window doesn't match it will be applied at the next maintenance window. But do I need to set
anything else here to have this automatically get apply ?
4 And last on the client side within the software center - options tab - computer maintenance " automatically install or uninstall required software and restart the computer only outside of the specified business hours " do I need to set this check
box ? And do I need to specify logon hours to match up with the maintenance windows to have the software try and deploy prior to deadline but still offline ?
What I am trying to achieve is to get the software pre downloaded to the machines and then automatically get deployed during off hours but hopefully prior to the deadline. Meaning is there anyway using any of the mentioned steps above to have the system
try and install the packages everyday between certain hours and once the deadline is reached to just install ? -

Preparing Lab for Exchange hybrid deployment

I would like to practice Exchange 2013 with office 365 lab environment(Hybrid deployment). I need
to prepare this lab setup without having internet connection.
Note :
Please find the below Hyper V servers which i am planning to use for hybrid deployment:
Onpremise servers:
1 Dc
1 Exch 2013
2 Adfs server
2 Adfs Proxy server
1 DRSync server & 1 TMG server
I need to create a Virtual Exchange online office 365 domain to make a hybrid connection with the onpremise servers.
How to acheive this setup.

Active Directory Sites and Exchange 2013 Deployment
I've recently took over responsibility of an Exchange 2013 Organization that is deployed as follows:
Active Directory consists of 4 Sites. AD Site A, B, C, D Exchange 2013 Enterprise resides in 2 of the 4 AD Sites as follows:
AD Site A - ExchangeServer 1 and ExchangeServer 2
AD Site B - Exchange Server 3
AD Site C - No Exchange Servers
AD Site D - No Exchange Servers
All 4 AD Sites are 4 different Physical locations/datacenters. All 3 Exchange 2013 servers are multi-role servers.
The Forest in which Exchange resides in consists of an empty Root domain, a Production (child) domain and a Test (child) domain. Exchange resides in the Production (child) domain.
Issue: AD Site A contains DC's from all 3 domains: Root Domain, Production child Domain (this is where Exchange lives) and Test child Domain. I notice that Exchange in AD Site A is using DC's from the Root Domain for it's "DefaultGlobalCatalog",
"DefaultConfigurationDomainController" and "DefaultPreferredDomainControllers" This to me does not seem to be very efficient as any Address Book queries will have to be referred to by the Root Domain DC's to the Production child domain
where Exchange lives. All of the AD User accounts and mailboxes are in the Production child domain.
In a situation such as this, would it be advisable to build 2 additional AD sites specifically for Exchange? Rather than re-IP Exchange or risk the impact of moving several other (non exchange) servers to another AD site, I would add the IP address
of the Exchange servers /32 to the new Exchange dedicated AD Sites and erect a DC in these new sites adding its IP address /32. Any thoughts on this idea? If the subnet that exchange resides on is (for example) 10.60.3.0 /16 in AD Site A, and
I build a new AD site for Exchange and add the IP address of the Exchange server such as 10.60.3.141/32 for this new Exchange AD Site boundary, I can still leave the 10.60.3.0 /16 unaffected in AD Site A, correct?

We could use the following command to exclude domain controller which is root domain controller:
Set-ExchangeServer –Identity <exchange servername> -StaticExcludeDomainControllers <root domain controller>
Then we could restart the service of “Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology” to check if the issue persist.

Exchange Best Practices Analyzer and Event 10009 - DCOM
We have two Exchange 2010 SP3 RU7 servers on Windows 2008 R2
In general, they seem to function correctly.
ExBPA (Best Practices Analyzer) results are fine. Just some entries about drivers being more than two years old (vendor has not supplied newer drivers so we use what we have). Anything else has been verified to be something that can "safely be ignored".
Test-ServiceHealth, Test-ReplicationHealth and other tests indicate no problems.
However, when I run the ExBPA, it seems like the server on which I run ExBPA attempts to contact the other using DCOM and this fails.
Some notes:
1. Windows Firewall is disabled on both.
2. Pings in both directions are successful.
3. DTCPing would not even run so I was not able to test with this.
4. Connectivity works perfectly otherwise. I can see/manage either server from the other using the EMC or EMS. DAG works fine as far as I can see.
What's the error message?
Event 10009, DistributedCOM
"DCOM was unable to communiate with the computer --- opposite Exchange server of the pair of Exchange servers--- using any of the configured protocols."
This is in the System Log.
This happens on both servers and only when I run the ExBPA.
I understand that ExBPA uses DCOM but cannot see what would be blocking communications.
I can access the opposite server in MS Management Consoles (MMC).
Note: the error is NOT in the ExBPA results - but rather in the Event Viewer System Log.
Yes, it is consistent. Have noticed it for some time now.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Since normal Exchange operations are not affected, I'm tempted to ignore it, but I have to do my "due diligence" and inquire.

Why this happens:
Totally speaking, the reason why DCOM 10009 is logged is that: local RPCSS service can’t reach the remote RPCSS service of remote target server. There are many possibilities which can cause this issue.
Scenario 1:
The remote target server happens to be offline for a short time, for example, just for maintenance.
Scenario 2:
Both servers are online. However, there RPC communication issue exists between these two servers, for example: server name resolvation failure, port resources for RPC communication exhaustion, firewall configuration.
Scenario 3:
Even though the TCP connection to remote server has no any problem, but if the communication of RPC authentication gets problem, we may get the error status code like 0x80070721 which means “A security package specific
error occurred” during the communication of RPC authentication, DCOM 10009 will also be logged on the client side.
Scenario 4:
The target DCOM |COM+ service failed to be activated due to permission issue. Under this kind of situation, DCOM 10027 will be logged on the server side at the same time.

Ensure that the remote computer is available
There is a problem accessing the COM Service on a remote computer. To resolve this problem:
Ensure that the remote computer is online.
This problem may be the result of a firewall blocking the connection. For security, COM+ network access is not enabled by default. Check the system to determine whether the firewall is blocking the remote connection.
Other reasons for the problem might be found in the Extended Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Error information that is available in Event Viewer.
To perform these procedures, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
Ensure that the remote computer is online
To verify that the remote computer is online and the computers are communicating over the network:
Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to
All Programs, click Accessories, right-click
Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If the
User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click
Continue.
At the command prompt, type ping, followed by a space and the remote computer name, and then press ENTER. For example, to check that your server can communicate over the network with a computer named ContosoWS2008, type
ping ContosoWS2008, and then press ENTER.
A successful connection results in a set of replies from the other computer and a set of
ping statistics.
Check the firewall settings and enable the firewall exception rule
To check the firewall settings and enable the firewall exception rule:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type wf.msc, and then click OK. If the
User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click
Continue.
In the console tree, click Inbound rules.
In the list of firewall exception rules, look for COM+ Network Access (DCOM In).
If the firewall exception rule is not enabled, in the details pane click
Enable rule, and then scroll horizontally to confirm that the protocol is
TCP and the LocalPort is 135. Close Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
Review available Extended RPC Error information for this event in Event Viewer
To review available Extended RPC Error information for this event in Event Viewer:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type comexp.msc, and then click OK. If the
User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click
Continue.
Under Console Root, expand Event Viewer (Local).
In the details pane, look for your event in the Summary of Administrative Events, and then double-click the event to open it.
The Extended RPC Error information that is available for this event is located on the
Details tab. Expand the available items on the Details tab to review all available information.

Exchange 2013 deployment design recommendations?
We are planning on upgrading from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Currently, we have 2 Exchange servers. One server with mailbox and hub transport in our local office with users. The CAS is in a remote data center. So, whenever either server is down or being restarted, all mail stops.
We have received licenses for three Exchange 2013 servers. What is the best way to set these up so there is high availability whenever any one of the three servers is offline. Also, since we will still have the licenses for our existing two Exchange
2010 servers, will there be any benefit in keeping those in this scenario?

The current setup of your environment is not Microsoft recommended solution as there is no HA set up for mailbox hub as well as CAS
My recommendation for exchange 2013
You can have CAS servers deployed one in each datacenter
Below thing can be thought for DAG Config
In order to increase the service level which is to have one site alive when the other site is down, its
better to Move the file share witness server to a server that does not belong to neither site but it needs to have reliable network communications between both sites.
So if any of two sites fails, the DAG will have a quorum and it can remain operational. The databases will
not be dismounted and service and data access will not be disrupted.
If in case if you don't have 3 sites you can follow below( again this is not best recommended HA )
Put the FSW in the primary Data Center and set the DAG to DAC mode so you can easily do a data center
switchover in case the primary fails.

Deploying Analyzer 7.0.1 on Weblogic 8.1
After successfully installing the software, I logged in to the Weblogic console and tried to deploy the new application. I set the location to C:\Hyperion\Analyzer\Analyzer70.ear.
