MDT 2012- Unattend.xml, or worse, No existing catalog file found.
Hello. Back again with a new issue.
MDT2012. Win 7 pro/ x64.. I've got a an issue with a recently Sysprep/Captured image. It was successfully captured with no errors, but won't deploy... citing
I initially had an issue with an Unattend.xml (the dreaded "5212 Welcome wizard failed" error) and it was suggested I:
Edited Unattend.xml file and : Navigated to the SPECIALIZE step
–highlighted “”amd64_Microsoft-windows-IE-InternetExplorer_neutral”” and
edited the “”IEWelcomeMSG”” feild, and unticked “”write image value.””
This did not resolve my issue, matter of fact, it may have made things worse, but since I'm not an expert, here I am.
The image I captured has IE11 (bad idea?) and the machine is fully patched as of a week ago. My latest error is when I got BACK to UNedit the Unattend.xml file... I'm greeted with this:
Performing operation "generate" on Target "Catalog".
Starting: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Deployment Toolkit\Bin\Microsoft.BDD.Catalog35.exe" "C:\DeploymentShare\Operating Systems\WIN7PRO-X64-JAN29

Then upon closing the above window, this sits behind it: ""Unable to edit the unattend.xml for this OS because no catalog could be located or generated""
I see the (an?) error regarding NO EXISTING CATALOG FILE FOUND... as well as PROCESS IN USE BY ANOTHER..
What can I do to resolve the above? And did I give you enough info here...?
Thanks! The part for the disk drivers is ignore able. It applies the image to the disk perfectly it is the unatend.xml file that is missing. Also I have it set up
so if the second disk is missing that is would keep executing. You will notice this further down the line.
I have tested this on real hardware and a VM. the log that I have posted it from a VM (I typed it out by hand). The log for the real machine is basically the same except with out the disk errors (because It has two HDDs). -

AroraHi Nishant,
Try to do as indicated in the following code below
FORM validate_app_file USING fp_file TYPE FILENAME-FILEINTERN.
data : l_fname(60).
CALL FUNCTION 'FILE_GET_NAME'
EXPORTING
LOGICAL_FILENAME = P_FILE
OPERATING_SYSTEM = SY-OPSYS
IMPORTING
FILE_NAME = L_FNAME
EXCEPTIONS
FILE_NOT_FOUND = 1
OTHERS = 2.
IF SY-SUBRC = '0'.
OPEN DATASET L_FNAME FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.
IF sy-subrc NE 0.
MESSAGE s007 DISPLAY LIKE c_e.
ELSE.
CLOSE DATASET l_fname.
ENDIF.
ENDIF.
Also find below the parameters for the function module and thier use
Interface of function module FILE_GET_NAME
IMPORT parameter
Function
CLIENT
Logical file names can be client-specific. Here you can specify the client to be used. The current client as stored in the system field SY-MANDT is used as default.
LOGICAL_FILENAME
Here you specify the logical filename. (Uppercase letters must be used!)
OPERATING_SYSTEM
Here you can specify the operating system for which to generate the appropriate file name. The application server's operating system as stored in the system field SY-OPSYS is used as default.
PARAMETER_1
PARAMETER_2
Here you can specify values that substitute the placeholders <PARAM_1> and <PARAM_2> in physical file names and paths.
USE_PRESENTATION
_SERVER
Specifies that the presentation server's operating system be used as the basis for generating a platform-specific file name.
WITH_FILE_EXTENSION
Specifies that the logical file name's data format be used as filename extension.
USE_BUFFER
Specifies that the customizing tables for converting platform-independent file names be buffered in main memory.
EXPORT parameter
Function
EMERGENCY_FLAG
If the returned value is not SPACE, then no physical path has been found for the logical filename under the current operating system. In this case the path specified in the profile parameter DIR_GLOBAL will be used as physical path.
FILE_FORMAT
Returns the data format defined for the logical file name. You can use this parameter to decide in which mode to open the file. It is also required as a parameter for DOWNLOAD of files to the presentation server.
FILE_NAME
Returns the fully instantiated platform-specific file name and path.
Exceptions
Function
FILE_NOT_FOUND
Raised if logical file name is not defined.
OTHERS
Raised if other errors occur.
Analyse your problem
If the function module cannot find a physical path for the current operating system (see parameter EMERGENCY_FLAG), this may have various causes:
the operating system is not defined in the customizing tables
the operating system is not assigned to a syntax group
no physical path is assigned to the logical path for the relevant syntax group
no logical path is assigned to the logical file name.

Final Cut Pro Unix Executable file??? what do i do?
Hey All,
So I wanted to dig up an old movie i edited in 2003 so i took out the old IMac. I found the Final Cut Pro 2 sequence on there but because all the footage (capture scratch, etc.) is saved to an external hard drive i need to reconnect the material to the sequence. i hooked up my WD My Book drive to my G5 to find the clips and sure enough i backed them up on this hard drive (37 gb worth) awhile ago but for some reason all the clips say they're Unix Executable Files? Why did this happen when i backed them up instead of them staying as Quicktime files?
So here are my questions...
Tonight when i go home I want to be able to open up the FCP sequence on Final Cut Pro Studio 2 (fcp7)...will this be possible to open up an FCP 2 sequence that many versions later?
Also, please tell me why the quicktime clips did this? When i do File-->Get Info-->change open with Terminal to Quicktime they play but how will i get them to reconnect to FCP?? Do i need to go one by one and add .mov extension??
I'm very confused...i would rather not have to do the editing on the 2003 machine..i'd like to get it to work on my newest computer (27inch imac).
Can i attach a newer external that the clips are on to the old mac?
Thank you,
Jenna..will this be possible to open up an FCP 2 sequence that many versions later?
Yes.
Do i need to go one by one and add .mov extension??
Use my [Automator Action|https://files.me.com/nikholmes/0ge9cr] which will rename them for you -Just choose the correct folder in the "Start At" section. Link is a direct download from my iDisk.
Can i attach a newer external that the clips are on to the old mac?
Of course. -
Recovered files now UNIX Executable Files???
After my previous external hard drive failed I had the data recovered and placed onto a new external drive. After looking at the files I have found that a number of them have become "unix executable files." I don't know what this is or how to fix it. It seems to have only happened to things such as saved emails, but there are some photos from my digital camera that have converted to this as well.
While looking into the problem I found that the company that recovered the data placed it all onto an external hard drive that is an MS-DOS File System (FAT32) format instead of a Mac OS format. Could this be the problem since all of my files were Mac files, and the hard drive they were recovered from was formatted to Mac OS?
If this is the case, is it something I can fix myself without loosing anything, or should I take it back to the place that recovered the data?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes the file naming probably was messed about with when they copied stuff over to FAT32. The files are probably there. However, the just need the correct file suffix to associate with the correct programs. A good way to test the files without hurting them is to view them in the Terminal with the program called More. Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and you will be greeted by a prompt. At the prompt type the word
more
followed by a space (do NOT hit enter)
and drag the file into the terminal following the word "more" and then when the path appears, hit enter. If there is intelligible text, the file is probably an e-mail. If there is no intelligible text, it probably is an image, or a system file. Preview can open the files which are images and save them to specific formats. Depending on the number of files you had rescued, it might be better to ask them to rescue it again, but to a properly formatted volume. You can try yourself if you still have the old disk with Prosoft Data Rescue.
In anycase, this is a very good lesson to always backup your data in the future as my FAQ explains:

Files changing to unix executable files in leopard!
I'm having files show up as UNIX EXECUTABLE FILES in Leopard. these are Quark Xpress files and a few tiff files.
These were backup files sent from a client on a Mac, there were compressed using Zip software. Also the same files that were not compressed are DOCUMENT files.
What is happening that Leopard can not recognize these files?
I tried removing "com.apple.LaunchServices" filesI found that a number of Windows files copied across to an external HFS+ hard disk from a Windows PC using MacDrive showed as Unix executables.
It turned out that they files had Execute permissions set for all users.
You can change the "Execute" setting using chmod in the terminal, but a simpler solution is to install FileUtilsCM, a free context menu control available from http://www.abracode.com/free/cmworkshop/file_utils.html
It offers a variety of high level controls, including remove file type and creator; remove resource fork; clear "execute" Unix attribute.
I found this fixed the problem for my files. The "clear execute" control fixed the file type, and the "remove type & creator" command converted the type back to Plain text from Document.
I don't know if it will work for your problem, but could be worth a try. Works in Leopard 10.5.1 for me.
Slightly more control is available from Super Get Info from Barebones http://www.barebones.com/products/super/index.shtml
That's not free, however, but it does allow you to set the file type and creator.

Unix executable file- in backup email files
Hello,
I've searched the discussions and found a few posts that resemble my question but nothing exactly/ nothing suggested has worked so far.
I have entire email files backed up to a LaCie drive- 2 actually. All of the email backup icons have been changed to "Unix executable file"- the icon is a grey box with "exec" on it.
The promising side is that the files are still large- 301 mgs, etc- so I would think there is still information in the file.
I've tried going into "Info" and changing "open with" to entourage or thunderbird. Or even Excel to see if I could get a tab delimited file and convert. Nothing has worked so far.
I've seen this before with other types of backup files as well. I haven't changed operating systems, have only been working on Macs, this has happened both on a wireless ethernet disk and a firewire drive.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
jzHi,
Never fear! Your original MacOS disks should include the developer tools. They call it xcode these days. By default it should install extra command line utilities in /Developer/Tools. So really the command should look like:
/Developer/Tools/SetFile -t 'TEXT' -c 'CSOm' your_mbox
You can add /Developer/Tools to your $PATH variable to avoid the extra typing. But you can do that later. Just replace your_mbox with the path to one of your Eudora mail boxes that you've copied back to your harddrive.

Wav Files renamed... now they are UNIX EXECUTABLE FILES
Hello everybody!
I ran a script in terminal to batch rename something like 2K+ .wav files following an .csv list.
The list contained 2 columns, A: the original name and B: the new desired name.
for the ones interested the script is here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1886783&tstart=0
I ended up having the same 2k+ wav files perfectly renamed but the finder sees them as UNIX EXECUTABLE FILES.
Now all my audio apps can open them fine but the thing is that I need them to be listed as audio files in finder so I can preview them with QuickLook in the finder.
Anyone knows how to do this?
Renaming again using a different app (like Automator) did not work, file types and creator codes are blank. I have a utility that changes them but I don't know wich is the correct filetype and creator code....
Maybe you can shed some light on this issue....
Solved it myself. stripped the file of its extension. then replaced the extension.... worked!
Thanks!

UNIX Executable Files - Additional Info Needed About Zipped Files
I've tried to go through all of the questions posted so far but each link leads me back to the same three or four discussions. I have downloaded zipped folders of sound samples. When they are unzipped the files all have an extra space added just after the extension. This causes them to be read as UNIX Executable files. I've discovered the problem but the only cure I've found is to open their info page and erase the space and then confirm that they are aif files. Is there any way to stop this from happening in the unzip process? If not is there a method to change these in large groups as opposed to confirming every file one at a time? I've done about 100 of them but the next folder has 275 files. Also if the sounds were zipped as stereo files this folder also appears to have separate Left and Right files. I'm not sure if that also could have happened in the file compression process. The download site has hundreds of folders from different contributors but the file formatting is very consistent. Thanks for your time.
Download a renaming application such as "NameChanger."

"Unix Executable File" how to read?
In clean up my older folders I've found several files that don't have any of the usual icons, but rather a Terminal file icon and the Get Info shows that they are "Unix Executable Files."
I opened them using Text Edit and found that some have the type/creator code of WDBN MSWD and others are PICT SPNT, or DRWG MDTod Wicks wrote:

According to this Web page

the first one is a Microsoft Word file. According to a Web search the second one is from SuperPaint and the third is from MacDraw. -
Unix executable File _VUC69~7 in OSX10.4.11
A unix executable file named "_VUC69~7" has appeared in the finder on the top level of my main hard drive.
Curious - any ideas what it is, why it's appeared & whether I can or should make it disappear?
Many thanks in advance, P.Many thanks, I had found these links but not sure they are relevant to my situation -- just a powermac & a wireless internet connection.
I wasn't aware that I was using Samba, would it run without my knowledge?
Also have never knowingly set up a Linux file server -- are these all things that happen "under the hood" that an average user doesn't realise are going on?
The file was created last March but I can't think what I did around this time that would have created it. -
What is an unix executable file that appeared in my folder?
HI,
In my folders structure I have a folder named "jobs: where I put my working files etc.
Yesterday inside the "jobs" folder I found a file with the same name "jobs" , its icon is dark gray and it is a "unix executable file" with zero bytes...
How was it created there?
I think I did a permission repair this week, but this is the first time I see a Unix exec file ...** folder named "jobs:" **
When I tried to create a folder with that name, the Finder told me that the name was not valid. A colon in a Mac file or folder name used to be a bad idea. I guess it still is. I'd rename that folder to exclude the colon. -

Why my ggate showing unable to find the executable. I am able to see the executable server in the ggate home.In addition to Steve's reply, note that the broken installation may actually be on the target system, not the (local) source system. Unable to find "server" may mean that your source GG installation is unable to send remote trails to the target system, because "server" can't be found on the target. When checking the target gg installation, also be sure you've configured your source system to send to the correct mgr port & correct remote host. You might be sending data to an older (perhaps (partially) uninstalled) version of GG.
