No ExpressCard 34mm on X240?

I just unpacked my X240 today and discovered I can't find the ExpressCard slot.
It is advertised in the specs page, http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x240/#techspecs
In the brochure, http://shopap.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/WW/wci3/au/en/common/pdf/X240_DS_ANZ_lowres.PDF
But, it is apparently not on my machine.
I also checked the user manual, http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/x240_ug_en.pdf
Low and behold, it makes no mention of the ExpressCard slot.
None of the material seems to suggest the ExpressCard is optional, so I am completely surprised by this omission or deception?
The ExpressCard was an important factor in my decision to purchase the X240, and I am completely baffled.
Does anyone know what is going on?  Thanks.

I returned the X240 and ordered a L440.  The customer service rep promised that she will forward this customer feedback and get the sales team to change the information in the spec sheet and any material to avoid this confusion.

Consider an Expresscard 34 or 54 solution. You laptop appears to have an Expresscard 54 slot that supports both 54 and 34 size cards.

  • Anyone know if the StarTech Express eSATA card works with MBP/10.6?

Hi - maybe a bad assumption, but according to StarTech, their eSATA ExpressCard works with 10.4 and 10.4 - so I assumed it would work with 10.6. The model number is ECESATA1.
My original MacBook Pro recognizes the card because I see the icon in the top bar - however none of the two eSATA drives I've tried to connect get recognize or can be accessed via Finder or Disk Utility.
I verified that the drive, cable, and card works because I verified on a Windows XP machine.
StarTech's support is not open this weekend and nothing definitive via Googling - so I thought I'd ask here.
    Thanks
    JC

    Hi John -
I am about to buy a StarTech duplicating dock, but finding out which card will work with it through my expresscard slot is a nightmare.
Are you using the card that has two ports on it, and so has one drive per port, or are you using Port Multiplication to have two drives through one port ?
I want to get this one, which I think is the same one you are using:
    http://www.startech.com/product/ECESATA1-1-Port-Flush-Mount-ExpressCard-34mm-eSA TA-II-Controller-Adapter-Card
Startech support tell me to download the new driver from silicon website, but I still read threads which say there is a problem with it.
Its the PMultiplication feature that is essential for what I need.
Your experience and also driver that you are using would be very helpful before i blow £300 on kit that isnt going to work properly !

  • Using external monitors

I'm currently using a 17" macbook pro intel core 2 duo with one apple 23" cinema display attached in extended desktop mode.
I also own a 15" apple cinema display, is there any way that I can use this also and have a total of three monitors(the built in 17" on the macbook pro, the 23" and the 15") all in extended desktop mode?
    thanks,
    Jeff

Under Device Manager, there should be a node called Display adapters. Expand this. If it lists an Intel card and an NVIDIA card, then you have Optimus and should be able to drive three displays. If not, you're stuck with two via the default outputs.
You can however get a USB-to-DVI adapter, which doesn't count towards the limit. However, this will be only suitable for low-bandwidth output (no videos, games, etc.) if you're using a USB 2.0 adapter.
A USB 3.0 adapter would work significantly better, but the T420 has no native USB 3.0 ports. But you can get an ExpressCard USB 3.0 off of eBay too.

  • ESata problem

    Hello,
I have a problem with eSata on my Lenovo G560 IdeaPad model 0679 running Windows 7 Home Prem. 64 DK (danish language). When connecting and transferring data via an eSata external harddrive (Samsung Story Station Plus HX-DE015EB eSata/usb2), my computer stalls after about 5-10 seconds into the transfer. And nothing further happens. The transfer just stops and stalls the computer.
This only happens when I use the eSata option on the external drive. When using USB2 the transfer is okay at approx. 25 Mb/sec.
Now one would think something is wrong with the eSata hardware-connection on the motherboard or the eSata connector itself.
To check this theory I installed Windows XP on the computer, and eSata turns out to work perfect with approx. 70 Mb/sec. throuput. USB2 was around the usual 25 Mb/sec.
I also tried Ubuntu operating system, and eSata was as fast as on Windows XP.
    So I believe it's a software/driver problem with Windows 7.
Anyone heard of similar issues and ways to solve this? I have talked to Lenovo hotline support, but so far found no solution.
    PS:
I do not boot from the external drive. It's only for storage.
The external drive is 6 months old and worked flawlessly untill I tried with Windows 7.
I have tried to format the drive with both NTFS and FAT32. Also with Samsungs own formating tool. No difference.
And there is no difference whether I use up all 3 USB-connections on the computer or only use one for eSata.
I have the latest BIOS (29CN31WW v2.08), chipset driver (9.1.1.1020), Intel Matrix Storage driver (9.6.0.1014), Intel Management Engine Interface driver (6.0.0.1179). All for 64-bit OS.
    All Windows 7 updates.
    I have disabled Windows firewall.

  • What version of Expresscard is present in the mid-2011 MacBook Pro 17"?

    Hi,
Does anyone know what version of Expresscard is present in the mid-2011 MacBook Pro 17"??
I want to know if it uses the PCIe 1.0 or 2.0 interface.
I've tried searching, but this one hasn't been answered.
A call to Apple Care didn't get me anywhere (they didn't know).
Closest thing I've come to an answer is this post (see last answer).
However, it's a bit confusing since the poster talks about GT/s, not Gbit/s as stated on Wikipedia (se fact box on the right).
    Anyone...??
    /Binker

    No, it isn't.
Check the links in my post.
The first one is this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4138
    It states:
    ExpressCard/34 slot
Expand the capabilities of your MacBook Pro with standard 34mm ExpressCards. To eject an ExpressCard, push gently on it to activate the spring, and then remove it from the slot.

  • Need to get a bootable external E-SATA HDD connected via E-SATA ExpressCard adaptor

We need to get a bootable external E-SATA HDD connected via E-SATA ExpressCard adaptor to this laptop however there are 2 main question before we purchase those hardware:
1 - will it be bootable at all?
2 - what speed is going to be provided by the ExpressCard slot on this laptop - is it comparable with E-SATA standard?
I'm purchasing the card here http://www.ebay.com/itm/add-2-eSATA-Hard-Disk-ports-for-Laptop-Notebook-PC-fits-34mm-Expresscard-slo...   but still can't understand is it compatible and what speed will I get on the slot of my laptop - taking into account your official specification:
    "    1 ExpressCard/54 Slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)"
Could you please advise us on the above?

wiki explains that "...The ExpressCard has a maximum throughput of 2.5 Gbit/s through PCI Express and 480 Mbit/s through USB 2.0 dedicated for each slot, while all CardBus devices connected to a computer share a total 1.06 Gbit/s bandwidth." - but:
how can I know whichever bus (PCIExpress or USB) is used in my laptop for this interface?

  • Expresscard reader for CF & SDHC cards

I'm looking for a card reader for my Macbook Pro that can read compact flash cards (from my DSLR) as well as the SDHC (from my Blackberry 8330 curve) and hopefully some of the other common photo cards. But from my cursory searches, I'm seeing only one type of reader or the other. Are CF and SDHC card formats incompatible in a single card reader? Or am I just not looking hard enough? Much appreciated!

I have never seen a single reader for the Expresscard slot that does both CF and SD. I think the issue is that the CF card won't fit in the 34mm size. So that would make for a much bulkier and less visually attractive reader The CF readers already stick out quite a bit. Now it would have to be even bigger to get the SD connector. You could get a CF reader, then get a SD-CF adapter. But that's still technically two adapters.
Me personally, I just gave up and got a $20 USB reader that does CF, SD, MS and XD. Unless you're transferring a lot of data from the memory cards, this might be the most cost effective. Otherwise, for speed, you'll have to get separate Expresscard adapters. However, you'll want to check the specs carefully as some of the readers use the USB interface of the Expresscard slot instead of the PCI interface and so might not get faster transfer rates than an external USB reader.

  • X240 fingerprint reader does not work after standby or lockscreen

    Hello all,
I have a new X240, and the fingerprint logon no longer works after the computer resumes from standby or from a lockscreen (screen saver). I have checked other solutions here and in other sites, namely:
    1. unchecking the power option of the fp reader in device manager,
    2. and switching the 30-day standby in Lenovo Settings
Neither of those solutions have worked. I have the latest BIOS and FP driver versions. I made sure the the FP was enabled in BIOS, and I even switched the settings to allow internal FP reader only. Still, the FP will only work when I first power on the laptop, but not after resuming from stand-by. I have checked in Device Manager after manually entering the password, and it says that the FP is working properly.
I am at a loss, and I want to exhaust every possibility before I call tech suppport. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Fixed.
I normally use System Update to check for newer versions of Lenovo software. SU didn't catch that there was a new version of FP reader. Just to be sure, I doublechecked on Lenovo's website, and lo and behold, there was a newer version of the FP reader. I had to download it and manually uninstall the previous version. It's fine now. However, I don't understand why Lenovo does this - why does SU not catch updates? It's not the first time that this happens, by the way, nor is it limited to this laptop (I own or have owned a T60, X61, X200, X201, X230, T410, and now the X240).
In any event, the FP is working properly now. I hope this helps someone else.

  • Problem with expressCard and PCI IRQ

    Hi all,
my system: Ideapad S9e, product number 4068-38G, Windows XP Home.
I use an audio express card from RME (HDSPE Expresscard). When the card is inside the slot, the Ideapad S9e does not start up. The fan starts, stops, and the screen stays black.
When I remove thee card, the boot process continues but a message comes up
    Error
Warning: IRQ not configured - PCI on Motherboard
     Bus:00, Decive: 1C, Function: 02
And, then, everytime I start, the message comes, even if the card is not inserted.
I updated the BIOS, it's version is from the 11/19/08
I can not configure any interrupts in the BIOS.
When I hot-plug the card in Windows, that is, I start without the card and insert it afterwards, it works.
    Any idea what's wrong?
    Regards,
    Rainer

Well this is dishearting as I just ordered this for the Express Card slot that I need to run Serial devices with.
My question would be has anyone going into the BIOS and looked at what the system is asigning the Express Card slot as an IRQ ? I had some issues with an old Win2k system where trhe BIOS and the OS were fighing over IRQ's.
If this is an issue then this will be returned as soon as I get it here.

  • Resolution of X240 and T440p with external 4:3 displays only 1280x1024, although native 1600x1200

We connect the new X240 and T440p - docked in Ultra dock - with two external  20" 4:3 displays via display-port and dvi or just both display-ports.
The maximum resolution which can be chosen in Windows is only 1280x1024 although the displays have a native resolution of 1600x1200.
We already applied all driver- and bios-update and tried different connections.
The same displays worked great with older ThinkPad models.
With 24" displays and 16:10 resolution it is possible to choose the native resolution of 1920x1200.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The problem with the monitors which go blank can be solved:
    1. Upgrade the firmware of the Ultra Dock:
    Firmware:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options/fwdphb01.exe
    Installation instructions:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options/fwdphb01.txt
    2. Check the FRU-Number of the power supply, if it's 45N0362 than it's on of the good ones, if it's 45N0366 it's one the bad ones. In this case you should contact lenovo support to replace the bad ones.

  • Using a expresscard FW800; G-Raid drive unmounts on it's own

I'm using a NitroAV Fw800 dual expresscard to connect my 500gig G-Raid drive that i use for video editing. I have never had a problem with it using Tiger.
Ever since I upgraded to leopard it is behaving strangely.
I mount the drive and all is well, (this is an example of the problem I'm having with it) I used the drive to provide 3.8 gigs of info to burn a disk recently. It burned fine and when it was done the drive just sat there, turned on, mounted for a few minutes and then it unmounts itself.
When it's doing something it behaves fine, when I leave it alone for a bit it unmounts itself and I get the error saying that it has been removed without ejecting it first.
If I connect it via the built in FW400 port, it stays connected and I have no issues. other drive I have are FW400 and they behave perfectly.
I have never had this problem before. what could it be?

I spoke with the company that manufactures the expresscard (NitroAV) again and they said it is a foul up associated with upgrading to Leopard and not installing fresh and reformatting the hard-drive.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there anyway to have Apple address this problem?
    thanks for any help.

  • X240 - SSD Cache M.2

I ordered an X240 with a 16 GB SSD Cache drive.  Already, I am having a problem with it.  It is saying when I turn the machine on that there is a problem.  What I'd like to do is to just remove it and restore my HDD with an image I took.  However, when I take the bottom of the machine off...I can't find the SSD.  Anyone know where it lives?
    I found this online --> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=PD028910
But when I look in that spot, I don't see anything.  Very confused.

    Regarding the error, it is:
    2102  Detection error on SSD2 (M.2)
    It had been working prior.
Here is the picture of inside the case.  If you look in the spot that the manual says the SSD should be, I can't find it.  Based on the instructions, it should be right where the red and blue wires are.
I have mulitple of these machines and I opened a few up. Same issue with all of them.  I can't find the SSD.  The reason I am wanting to remove it is two-fold 1) the issue with it not working 2) now that I have it, the imaging process is a bit of a mess.  Not sure I want to deal with it.
