No external monitor working

For the last 4 years I have been able to connect to an external monitor (BENQ), all types of projectors and my tv easily. I have a Lenovo X61 and use Windows 7. February 25 2012 the computer ran a 'critical' update' of Windows and ever since I can't connect to other monitor and to the TV. Functionality all seems fine as my Fn-F7 works and Windows-P works. Connect to external display seems to work as well from an operating point of view. However, nothing appears on my monitor ('no signal' message) or tv ('no signal' message). Further info:
Installed new drivers, no success.
Done restore, done roll back of display players.
Problem occurs at all resolutions
Graphic card Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Antivirus software Norton 360
Computer is not connected to a network or domain
All cables are ok, have been tested
Appreciate any advice.

Hello Peterhoving,
As you have done with all the needed troubleshooting steps, however you can also try to update the BIOS from the below mentioned web link.

Never mind.  Sorry.  It fixed itself.

  • My external monitor works but I can't get my screen to work on my power book anymore

Can not get my screen on power book G4 to work but my external monitor works fine. Did I press something and turn it off?

The both screens always worked fine but now the power book doesn't show anything on the screen.  I didn't drop it or even move it.  Where is the brightness button?  Could I have hit it by mistake?
Thanks so much for your help.
F2 is the up-brightness button, F1 is the down-brightness button, usually, on PowerBooks.  If for some reason the F1 button got held down for a couple of seconds, the display would go completely dark.
That being said, if the backlight does not come up (easily determined by seeing if the Apple outline on the cover is lit up) then the most likely suspect would be the inverter board, or the connection to the inverter board.  If this is a Titanium PG G4, the inverter board is easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.  For the Aluminum models, I don't know if that is quite so true.

  • Twist: Can't make two external monitors work

I'm trying to get two external monitors to work with my twist. One is connected via mini-HDMI, the other using a Thunderbolt adapter (I've tried adapters for VGA, DVI and HDMI - same result). Only one external monitor (mini HMDI) works, although Win8 detects both (lists the grayed-out monitor make/model correctly). If I unplug either monitor, the other works fine.
Note that I am using an Apple Thunderbolt adapter, not the Lenovo Mini DisplayPort adapter. I use the Thunderbolt adapter with one monitor all the time.
I have two monitors working at another location; Mini DisplayPort -> VGA and USB -> SVGA.
Is the problem that I'm not using the Lenovo adapter, or is this never going to work? Thanks.

The Twist should support internal LCD + one external LCD (or 2 external LCD with displayport splitter) on at the same time.

  • Satellite M30X-111 screen doesn't display anything but external monitor works

My laptop screen just doesn't display anything (look like when the computer is off) but when I connect the external monitor, then the desktop will be displayed on that monitor. I tried to recover the laptop using the recovery disk and it worked again, but today, it stopped working again.
I again have to plug in the external monitor, and after I tried to reboot, I keep pressing F8 but the start up mode doesn't come up, only the sound of when you keep pressing a button for too long beeps, however, the laptop monitor works again.
How do I fix this problem?

    Hi
According to your first posting I presume that LCD display on your notebook is defective. If you can not see BIOS settings or Toshiba welcome screen there must be some display problem.
Experiment with external display is to be sure that graphic card is not responsible for that. In your case it works with external display and graphic card can not be responsible.
Like I said try to enter bios settings and report if you can see Toshiba welcome screen.

  • External monitor works differently if MBP open or shut...why?

I have a new 23 inch LG HD external monitor for my MBP (connected via mini to vga). Using all latest software.
If connected to the MBP, and you start the MBP, and shut the lid (i.e. screen down), the LG external monitor comes up in 1920x1080 and covers the entire screen. This is what I would expect.
The same as above, but leave the lid on the MBP up (i.e. screen is visible), the monitor comes up in 1920x1080, but letter boxed (i.e. two 1" black vertical bars, one on each side). The makes the usable screen real estate much smaller.
Any idea what is going on?
Is there a way to turn the MBP built in monitor off with screen/lid up?
    thanks

In the "Arrangement" tab of the "Displays" panel of System Preferences, is "Mirror Displays" checked? It wouldn't surprise me if things worked differently depending on that setting.

Someone else will have to answer that question.

  • External monitor works only works when laptop screen displays

Hi there, I just connected a different (newer, but not brand new) external monitor to my T61.  When I toggle screens (fn-f7) the external display gets no signal in the 'external display only' position, but displays beautifully in the 'both' position.  This never happened with my old monitor.  I would like to use the external display and not have the laptop screen display.  Any ideas? Many thanks, Ellen

    Try this:
After connecting external monitor, press win key+p and thrn choose projector only.

  • Video playback on external monitor working. Only works when Print to Video

I'm having a problem. I'm using FCP 5. When editing, my video playback is not showing up on my external monitor (Sharp MiniDV camcorder). It does however show up on the external monitor when I "Print to Video." This is the first time using FCP 5. I never had this problem with previous versions of FCP. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Thanks

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Does digital vga cable link from ipad2 to external  monitor  work with pages and numbers

Are you able toutilize pages and numbers on an external monitor with and ipad2 by utilizing a digital VGA cable

    Hi ederg:
You may want to download/update: Monitor file for Windows 7 (Thinkpad)
The reason I say that is because the readme it states, "If you use the preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows OS without the preload image."
Since you setup the Thinkpad with Windows 7 Pro CD and no longer have the preload image, this may fix the problem.
Also, have you checked the website for the displayport manufacturer? They may have updated drivers there that wouldn't have been on the update tool you used.
*Edit* You can also check the: External monitors issues section here. It goes over some basic troubleshooting you may want to try first (I just came across it now)

  • External monitor working through dvi but poorly

i just tried to conect my pb 12 inch to an external monitor, using the mini dvi to dvi, strait to dvi on the monitor. There is a conection but it is a horible picture. There are all sorts of broken green horizontal lines, with a hole lot up and down the right side. Also the pb monitor goes in and out, as if the screen were going asleep. I tried restarting with everything plugged in, no help.
it is a 32 inch widescreen ilo lcd monitor.

Go into system preferneces and change the screen resolution and refresh rate for the external moniter.
    I hope this helps.

  • New iMac G5 + External Monitor -- Works?

    Hi guys,
I was thinking about buying the 20" iMac G5 but I was wondering if I could connect a VGA monitor to it to extend the desktop. I don't want to just mirror / clone the desktop onto another screen, I'd like to extend it to have more real estate. Is this possible? Thanks!

It's pretty common knowledge that v.1 anf v.2 iMac's can do screen spanning with Screen Spanning Doctor. I won't say where to get it, as I don't want to go to far against Apple's grain. Suffice to say it works perfectly.
BTW - I started with a 17 inch and connected it to my VGA trinitron because, well, why pay for the 20 in when I needed an external screen anyway? Well, the output from the mini-vga is below VESA standards, and the picture was dark and awfle. My 5 year old Pismo looks rocken' on the Trinitron though... as does ANY powermac. I think a lot of corners get cut in the non-pro hardware... which makes me thnk of the hate-on I had for Performa's.

  • External Monitor - Works with Mac Lion OS, but not with Boot Camp

Computer: Macbook Pro 13 inch purchased Spring 2011
    OS: Mac - Lion (10.7.3), Boot Camp - Windows 7 (64 bit)
Utilizing an adaptor, I'm able to use my Samsung monitor without I problem when working in the Mac operating system.  Unfortunatlely, when I switch to Windows 7 / Boot Camp partition, plugging in the Samsung makes both the external and laptop monitors go blank.
I have spent hours researching this, but I have be unable to come up with solution.  It seems like the problem might have something to do with the NVIDIA drivers.
Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this problem?  I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    PJL

I haven't experienced this in Bootcamp under Windows 7 using your same computer/OS's and I dual boot and use two monitors daily. So what you want IS possible.
When you boot into Windows the only Apple software you are using are Apple supplied drivers, some third party. Your video drivers are supplied by NVIDIA to Apple.
Try different adapters and cables. You don't say what you are using, DVI, VGA, but prove your cable set first. Then get your hardware specs and driver specs from Windows properties in Bootcamp and hit the Windows forums.

  • Macbook screen won't work, but external monitor works fine...

Hey guys - are there any solutions out there for this problem that doesn't involve hundreds of dollars? A mate of mine spilled beer on a macbook - had to pay for it, I fired it up and everything works fine but the screen... Is there a way that I can check the connections or dry something off? Apple told the owner to throw it in the bin - but it works fine plugged into a monitor. The screen isn't cracked or chipped - all looks fine - I'm guessing that fluid had got into a connection somewhere. Help me Gurus!
    Cheers

Have you tried drying it without the back cover and upside down? l heard it worked for some guy

  • External Monitor no longer working after install of 10.4.3

    Hi:
I am having some major issues after the last update with my external monitor, Dell 1905FP. I have a PowerBook G4 15in, 1.5 processor. Prior to the update I had no issues utlizing the monitor while closing the clamshell but after the update I was unable to utilize the rotation to portrait view on my monitor, with the clamshell closed. It would work on standard view to close the clamshell and then wake the computer utilizing a USB device or bluetooth keyboard.
I decided to after repairing permissions, disk utility, utilizing a DVI and the Analog cord with adaptor, creating a test user account, resetting PRAM and NVRAM and such to try reapplying the combo updater. This further broke the problem as I was unable to close the clamshell and wake the computer up to utilize the external monitor, even in standard (landscape view). When I do close the clamshell with the external monitor hooked up and then wake the computer with my mouse or keyboard the external monitor does power on and shows a lot of static and such not allowing me to see my desktop, but I can see the mouse cursor.
The external monitor works just fine, so long as I leave the lid open and if it goes to sleep with the clamshell open, it wakes just fine and the monitor works. This problem only occurs when I close the clamshell. I prefer the clamshell closed because it gives me the full screen that I desire in portrait mode due to the great amount of writing I do (it allows me to see a full 1 1/2 pages of text in Word while writing).
Another monkey wrench is that I was able to use another monitor, a 17in CRT and it worked just fine, I could close the clamshell and wake the computer utilizing my mouse as I have always been able to. However, I do not believe the Dell monitor is broken, given it will work with a PC laptop perfectly.
Does anyone have a clue on what this issue could be and a possible fix. I have used my Mac exclusively for a little over a year and I am just learning how to troubleshoot this. My thoughts would be to throw away the preferences in the system and then try hooking up the monitor again (as if it were a new monitor)but I have no idea what preferences to throw away.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Michelle

I answered this question on my own. I was able to utilize Pacifist and reinstalling the video card drivers and display profiles. Now everything works as it should.

  • Satellite P100: Can I connect two external monitor to VGA & DVI port at the same time?

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.
