No external; will I lose all data if I upgrade to SL?

Greetings. I do not have an external hard drive and just purchased Snow Leopard. I have roughly 50 gb of music I do not want to lose, will upgrading to SL destroy all of my old files from Leopard? I only ask this because way back when I upgraded from Microsoft 98 to XP and recall losing everything. Thanks!

As Neil says, no, you won't lose anything unless there's a problem.
But you should always do a full backup before any upgrade; and you should do regular backups at all times. All hard drives fail, sooner or later. Other things break. Mistakes happen.
Get yourself an external HD or Time Capsule and start using Time Machine or another backup app regularly. When something breaks, you may lose all your data.
