No Face Time on/off in Prefs

So this morning I'm trying to test Face Time with a friend who just got his phone activated. When I tried to 'call' him on FT, his phone just sat silent. I tried to 'call' myself from his phone, but when I did I noticed there was no FT option. I went to his Prefs ---> Phone but there was no option for FT at all. I looked on mine and had the FT option.
Any ideas why he has no FT option in Prefs?

FIXED!!! I spent two days looking for a solution and I finally found it!
First of all let me say that there seems to be multiple Face Time issues.
The issue I resolved is the one that causes FT to disappear after restoring from backup. In this case, the on/off toggle for FT will not even show under Settings>Phone. BONUS: if you are also having a problem with your data service, MMS or cannot use visual voicemail this will also repair that!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I think all of us has tried this . I'm not having as diffult issues as others , mine was updated on my private VPN using 100 mb Internet ssevice, fastest in the market, This mainly applies to the phone carrier settings and that is something we will have to wait on Apple to update. I talked to Apple tech and they said they were working on a fix for some carrier settings, mostly people using off the wall cell phone carriers are affected the most. It's a lack of communication between iPhone and iTunes to the network carrier, that's all they had to say for now... Thanks again

Face Time turns off automatically

My friend has a problem with face time. Every time he is turning off his device, face time turns off automatically. So every time he is reactivating FaceTime it coasts him an international SMS. any ideas why?

Not normal at all. First try restoring your phone as a "new" device in itunes, NOT from backup. Follow this by syncing your itunes content back to your phone. If the issue persists, make an appointment at an Apple store.

My iMessage and Face time on/off switch is not in settings

I can't turn on my iMessage or FT in settings. The switch is not there. It ask for my Apple ID and password but will not let it go through. Says invalid password.

FaceTime Troubleshoot
1. Make sure you are using the latest software
2. Sign out, reboot and sign in again
3. Make sure Date and Time is correctly set; Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
4. Make sure phone number or email address is correct
5. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) until you see the Apple Logo

I can get the camera working for Skype but face time is fine ??

I ahve a brand new 13" pro retina mac book and all of a sudden my skype wont activate the camera the green light doesn't go on but it works fine for face time so its not a hardware issue. I have checked the photobooth and face time is off so not sure is this an apple thing or a skype thing?

Try this:
Make sure that you have quit Skype.
With Finder active, hold the Option key down and click on Go in the menu bar.
In the drop down list select Library.
Scroll through the library folder to the Preferences folder.
Open it, and look for this file: com.skype.skype.plist.
Trash that file.
Now try Skype.

1/ Mac Pro. Iphone4s connected to my home wifi
2/ Face time call coming
3/ Pick up by Mac Pro.
No issue found.
Scenario2:
1/ Mac Pro. Iphone4s connected to my home wifi
2/ Face time call coming
3/ Pick up by Iphone4s.
4/ call auto drop off within 1 min chatting
5/ Wifi signal on both iphone4s and Mac Pro were found gone
6/ Reset router ( always show “cannot join XX network” unless reset router at least 1 time)
7/ Wifi signal will available after 5 ~10mins,
8/ Face time via iphone4S again, almost no problem….
Suppose it is a compatibility issue of iphone4s and TP-link router?
I already suffered the iphone4S face time drop off issue for more than 2 week… Hope it can be fixed soon….

I agree with @sabretooth. The connection status showing 100Mbps is only the local Ethernet network speed and since your router uses the Wireless-G technology, then you can get a maximum of 54Mbps for the wireless network speed. This network speed is significant when communicating within the local network of the router but it is still the 10Mbps internet subscription speed that is used when sending and receiving data or information through the internet.
It seems you’re experiencing a dropping connection and it would be better to isolate the issue before buying another router. Connect a computer wired directly to your Arris modem and observe the connection. If connection is good then it will give you a hint that it’s a possible router issue. You can then press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds, power cycle, reconfigure the internet connection and check if the problem persists.

Unable to Face Time with Ipod Touch 4th Generation

We have 2 4th generation Ipod Touch's. When Face Timing each other, only one can initiate the call and connect successfully. Say Ipod A FaceTimes with Ipod B, but can't connect. It just rings on Ipod A and does not ring on Ipod B. When Ipod B initiates FaceTime with Ipod A it will connect successfully. Now Ipod A can initiate FaceTime with Ipod B successfully but only after B connected with A first. Confused yet?!?!
I tried to recycle power; turn wi fi on / off; turn face time on / off; sign out of the Apple ID account etc. This only causes one to work and the other to not when both are powered up at the same time.
Again, once one of them can successfully connect then they both can FaceTime each other.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am still and will be staying on 3.1.2. I am not ruining my iPod's battery life and WiFi connection by upgrading to iOS4. No app is worth that!
Normally updates of the apps that now requires a newer version of the iOS will not show up on the Touch.
Reading through the other thread suggested by CeeZeeCZ I can see that this is a common problem these days.

Face time camera turns on upon log in

Face time is off yet camera comes on at log in for all users.

Have you tried Control clicking Facetime, going to options, and unchecking Open at Login?

Have you tried signing out of your Apple ID, restart the iPad and then start all over again?
Go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID. Tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Then go back to Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID. Sign in again. Then go to Settings>FaceTime>On. See if it will stay turned on and it it does, sign in and setup.

Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
OpenDNS
208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Google Public DNS
8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

Thanks, After changing my settings in face time per your suggestion, (it needed to be done), I turned off cellular data and data roaming and made a call using face time. It worked! Great way to stay in touch while overseas without the need for those egregious phone data plans.
