No features working with ichat

i can't send/recieve files, video, or call anybody using ichat. my server setting is changed to 443 port. im not using a router. ive done all software updates and have tried removing the com.ichat.... file in the preference folder and have tried re-adding my aim account
when i was at home, at least the video would work, but no file transfers. at my dorm, nothing works.
any ideas?

Parallels does not partition your Drive.
Version 4 though can access a Boot Camp version of Windows (Boot Camp does partition the Drive)
IN system Preferences > Network you will see the two VCNCs I spoke about.
You will find that on the right hand pane they are controlled by Drop Down and one option is Off.
I believe there is a separate Setting In Parallels to make it get it's Own IP from your routing device.
I have no info if Snow Leopard and Parallels changes the Behaviour of Parallels on installing/creating the VNCs and turning on File Sharing
I did set Internet Sharing On (Airport to Ethernet) without an Ethernet Connection plugged in) and it worked. (Video chat)

Hi,
Does anyone know if the new AIM Triton works with Ichat AV? I know the Beta version was not working but don't know about the new triton release.
Also, has anyone tried video/audio communication between Trillian and Ichat? Does it work? Is it better than AIM?

I have been working with the Triton on a PC and after much research (frustration), I have found this stated on the AIM support site:

USB Camera does not work with iChat

Hello,
I'm having a terrible time getting my ToUcam Pro II to work with iChat. I downloaded the iUSBcam program. That didn't work. I downloaded the program Macam, and copied the proper file into the Quicktime Library (as suggested) and that didn't work. I downloaded IOXwebcam, and got an error stating that it wouldn't run due to the fact that it didn't have the proper security settings. Sigh.
So... what am I to do?
I'd like to buy a webcam that does, actually, work with my 8 month old Mac Pro 4 core mac desktop, but the iSight camera is ridiculously expensive. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

An X-box 360 cam will do it although not in that list.
Anything that is USB 2.0 and marked UVC compliant or Vista Certified.
Be Aware some Mac Keyboards do not have USB 2.0 ports.

Routers: Any configurable device that sits between your computer and the internet link you have.
Routers seem to fall into two categories
Those that work straight from the box. See Apple Doc 93333
NOTE

This post will deal with what you may need to look at.
First off make sure your device is acting as a DHCP server. (if you are already on the internet you may not have to bother with this.)
Check in the Network Preference Pane, in the "Built in Ethernet" option from the "Show" drop down list.
Make sure the TCP/IP tab is the 'front' one. You should be able to see Configure IPv4 and it most likely reads Using DCHP. Make a note of your IP address. It will start 10.xxx.xxx.xxx or 192.168.xxx.xxx (the 'x' s will stand for any number between 1 and 255).
Your router is most likely to be configurable from your browser. You will need to find the IP address to type into the browser from any Readme or PDF files that came on the install disk or visit the makers website and download a manual.
DMZ Demilitarised Zone
This is a less secure setting that basically opens all ports and points the incoming data to your computer. (not helpful if you have more than one computer on your LAN)
NAT Sometimes called NAPT and related to Port Forwarding (also Virtual Server or Pin Holes)
These settings are usually found in an Advanced setting.
You will need to set an incoming IP address (Usually 0.0.0.0 for any outside server), a port that data will arrive on, the Inside computers IP address (your computer) and the port it will deal with the data on and the protocol it will use.
iChat uses TCP and UDP so some devices will need the settings done twice, once for each protocol.

1. All iChat AV traffic is UDP except for ports 5190 and 5298, which need to be open for both TCP and UDP; and 5220, 5222, which need to be open for TCP only.

Therefore port 5678 triggers ports 5678, 5060, 16384-16403. All on UDP. Port 5190 neeeds to trigger port 5190 for both TCP and UDP
Wireless
Here you will have to read around but this Apple Doc 58514 might be a good starting place.
Multiple devices
Make sure only one is acting as a DHCP server. Make sure wireless devices are bridged properly.

RE: Can't get vid to work with ichat

Yesterday my vid and sound worked with ichat and now only my sound. It's frustrating because they both still work on quicktime. I am using a logitech 9000 as my camera. Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks, George

First have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to 500.
Restart iChat.

What type of external webcam works with iChat?

Is there a certain type of external webcam that works with iChat or can any webcam do the job?

Logitech Quickcam Vision pro for the Mac was recently released and I am using it with G5 QUAD and OS X 10.5.4 without problems. It is quite expensive compared to other cameras but it has a Zeiss lens and I think a much better picture. Works with evocam also. (evocam is a shareware program to do time lapse photos, or motion sensor movies and webcam stuff). I'm very happy with it.

PC Webcam works with iChat and iSight

Before I purchase a web cam for my PC I need to know if it will work with iChat and iSight. Will I need to install any third party software for my mac or PC?

You will need to make a choice between AIM and Trillian
The AIM app is free but does not Audio only Chat to iChat users and has a very small pic.
Trillian costs $25 for the Pro version to Video chat but has a Bigger pic and can do full screen. The Basic version can alos Audio only chat to iChat users. Trillian can also join other IM services.
More info on setting up AIM on the PC http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html and the XP Service Pack 2 firewall. The Firewall will need to have Trillain enabled though it as well if you use that.

Routers that work with iChat AV?

Since Apple's list of approved routers hasn't been updated for years, I would love to hear from anyone who has purchased a router recently that works with iChat for audio/video, including any special setting changes/tips. Could anyone with a success story post here? I'm tired of the error 8 messages which in at least some cases seems to be router related.

I have used the DI-604 for about 5 years now. It is a great and cheap router/firewall. The only problem that I have ever had was an odd one. I have a mac pro. i have an external amp that I use for playing my music through. I had a cable run from the rear audio out to the amp. After the last firmware update (mac pro EFI firmware update 1.1) I could not use ichat anymore. If I bypassed the router and went straight to the modem then all was fine. It turned out that there was a major conflict with my setup using the router and rear audio out port but if i used the front headphone jack everything was fine. Other than that the DI-604 is very good. I open port 5190 on the router and have good results. If you are not sure how to open up ports then check out this site. It shows to open up a whole pile of ports but the 5190 port works fine for me.

Isight not working with ichat

I've ran into problems with my built-in isight camera not working with ichat. It says there hasn't been any information sent in the past 10 seconds and shuts down. It works fine on other programs like Yahoo Messenger and Skype though. Anyone know how to fix this?

Why won't my iSight webcam work with iChat?

I have an iSight webcam and a Power Mac G5. I can't get the iSight to work with iChat, but it works with Yahoo Messenger, although the image is choppy. I have cable internet access, and I am connected to a wireless router (though not wirelessly, but with an ethernet cable). Is the router somehow interfering with iChat and the iSight camera?

What is best mobile platform/os that will work with iChat? (pda/phone?)

hey dudes,
i was looking for a new smart phone that could use or work with some type of iChat client?
can anyone suggest a phone/pda that works well for them?
the 3 phones i have shortlisted so far are Treo 700p (but it isn't available in the UK yet), Nokia N-series phones, N92 or N93 maybe?
or as a last resort the HP hw6515 with GPS and wi-fi...
is working with iChat even possible?

Which USB Webcams will work with iChat?

Hi,
I'm new to these forums and am wanting to get a webcam, but iSights are no longer available and I don't have the interest or money to get a DV Camcorder.
So which USB webcams will work with iChat?
I take it I'll also have to purchase iChatUSBcam or whatever it's called.

The only USB cam that doesn't require iChatUSBCam is the iMage.

Video & Voice Chat Not Working With ichat

Voice Chat and Video Chat is not working with ichat 6 in booth google and yahoo. One side is ichat and the other side is yahoo & google talk clients, Please confirm whether its a workable scenario or it only supports ichat to ichat.

Other alternatives based on the amount of info in your post.
Has she set up her Google Name in iChat or is she logged on via the Web Site (Google Mail page) ?
iChat cannot Video to the Google Mail Login page chat option or to the app called GoogleTalk on a PC.
Another thing.
If you login to the GoogleMail Web pages you will get logged out of iChat (GoogleTalk account) to a partial extent which may explain the loss of Video or Audio iCons.
iChat reports in a Text chat window that you have Logged Off.
However you seem to be able to continue the chat - but it separate from the web Page chat - You send from the web page and that chat will get the next response, send from iChat and it gets the next response (I can't remember if the Buddy told me he got two Chat windows at his end)
