No file association for ID CS3

I have a fairly new Windows XP box and have configured my Adobe the same way as on my last computer: Full CS3 Design Premium installation, plus ID CS2 (for compatibility reasons). All of my .indd files are associated with ID CS2. Okay, I guess it must be because I installed CS2 2nd.
No problem. I just went into Windows Explorer to change the file association to ID CS3. But ID CS3 is not listed in the program list. So I browsed to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\InDesign.exe and clicked okay. But the association does not change. The icon and program association remain ID CS2. One last tidbit: In Windows Explorer, if I right-click an .indd file to "open with", the only program available is ID CS2.
All the above applies to Bridge as well as Windows Explorer.
I have to open my .indd files by starting ID CS3 and opening from w/in the program or by dragging a file to the open program window. If I'm in Bridge and I forget and double-click on a file, it loads ID CS2 and then tells me I can't open the file.
I assume something happened in the Registry that shouldn't have (or didn't happen that should have), but I don't understand why Windows won't let me manually associate the file type.
Any ideas on how to help Windows find ID CS3 without reinstalling the program?
Thanks,
-David

>It worked for me but the solution was not an intuitive one. Seems like Adobe should work out this kink for future customers.
The fact that you had a problem suggests that it's your system, not Adobe that is the root cause. A successful and undamaged installation WILL create the proper file associations, and will even use the correct version icon for older files (in Windows, though, only one version of the application -- the last one installed -- will be associated with the open command from Explorer or Bridge).

  • How do I reset the default file association for .bat files on Windows 8.1?

Windows 8.1 allows the user to change the file association for .bat files. I made the mistake of using this facility to change the default file association for .bat files to Notepad++. Now when I attempt to run a .bat file, the script for the .bat
comes up in Notepad++, instead of its being run as an executable file!  All my .bat files are now useless. I tried finding a way to change this back to the original executable setting, including deleting Notepad++ from my system, but nothing
    has worked.
There are discussions that I found on the Internet about this problem, and the solutions to which I was led have not worked either. Most of the solutions apply to Windows 7 or Vista, but not to Windows 8. There are a few solutions that purport to apply to Windows
8 and 8.1, but they do not work for me.
(Disconcertingly, some of the solutions presented for the problem that apply to Vista or Windows 7 and are dated as early as 2009, so this problem has apparently been around for some time, but Microsoft still keeps .bat files on the Control Panel facility that
enables the change to be made. I cannot see why, but there it remains.)
Can someone please help me change this file association back to the original setting for Windows 8.1? Remember, most if now all the links that address this issue are focused on Windows 7. I need an answer that has been tried and proven to apply to Windows 8.1.
    Nothing I have tried works.

    Hi,
For the issue, we can restore Default File Extension Type Associations through adding the registry entries.
    1. Download the .reg file from the following link.
    http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/tutorials/8025d1345781188-default-file-associations-restore-windows-8-bat.reg
Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.
    2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.
    3. Double click on the downloaded .reg file to Merge it.
    4. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
    5. Sign out and in, or restart the computer to apply.
    6. If you are logged in as a standard user and this still does not help, then have the administrator also merge the needed .reg file for the listed file extension or protocol below while logged into their administrator account.
    Hope this helps.

  • File Associations for all users

How does one go about changing file associations for file types for all users? I've recently installed iWork '08 on a computer on the network and now when I log in as a user it wants to open all of my Excel and Word Documents in Numbers and Pages respectively. How can I get it to default back to Microsoft Office for all of my Microsoft Office documents for all users. The iWork '08 install seemed to just take over, so it must be possible.
    Thanks!

  • Changing file associations for Stuffit

Soooo, I tried opening a BIN file using Stuffit Expander (well, indirectly using it by opening the file from Firefox), but because the VLC Media Player has changed the file associations so that by default it opens them, I can't open it (and for the record, the BIN file in question is the install file for AIM, direct from the AIM website...I'm downloading it as a backup for file transfers). Because Stuffit seems to be integrated within the kernel (as opposed to being a separate program), I can't go about changing the file associations the normal way. Is there a way for me to do it without uninstalling VLC?

Stuffit Expander is a separate program. You can get it here.

  • No file association for PDF files

I have installed Adobe Reader on my Nokia E70 (Series 60 3rd edition). I am able to open PDF files, provided they are very small ;-) directly from within Adobe Reader, but not via File Manager. Does anyone know how to set the file association of .PDF extension to open with Adobe Reader?

  • Need File Association for Crystal Reports v.11

    Post Author: pts123
    CA Forum: General
Policy Accounting is testing a new suspense processing application that relies on Crystal Reports v.11 for report delivery. Currently this report (SUSPENSE_DETAIL_REPORT.rpt) is located in the
kcsan03\Policy\PortalDocuments\Suspense directory. It is also crawled into the portal in the following location.
Knowledge Directory : Intranet : Departments : Policy Accounting : Suspense
However, when a user clicks on the report link, (either in the portal knowledge directory or from the file itself in the
kcsan03\Policy\PortalDocuments\Suspense directory), Crystal Reports v.7 is launched rather than Crystal Reports v.11.
Is there a way to get the report to open with Crystal Reports v.11? This appears to be a file association issue and potentially involves all of the users in the SUSProc active directory group.
The new suspense processing application is currently in test and is scheduled to go live on June 15, 2007. We need to test in the final location (
kcsan03\Policy\PortalDocuments\Suspense) prior to our go live date. Any assistance in resolving this issue is much appreciated. Becky Clark previously assisted me on other tickets involving the Crystal Reports v.11 application.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.

    Hi Mike,
From CR XI R2 and CR2008 You can export the reports to MS excelt 97-2003 version i.e., 65K records only.
Using CR2011 and CR2013 You can export the reports to MS Excel 2007 version i.e., Xlsx format.

  • File Association and FW CS3

I have tried to associate .jpg files and .gif files with FW
CS3, and my Windows XP Pro will not do it. It only recognizes
Fireworks 8 .... even though I use the browse button in the File
Types window and browse to Adobe Fireworks CS3. I have tried this
through the Control Panel and the Files Types tab, and by
right-clicking on a .jpg and selecting Open With and then browsing
    to FW CS3.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled FW CS3 hoping that would
    help. Still not working.
I'd love to be able to right-click on a .jpg file and open it
with FW CS3 like I have been able to do with all my versions of FW
    going back to FW3.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    By the way,
    If that method doesn't work,
-Go to the Start Menu and select Run
-Type C: (the letter of your hard drive)
-From the Menu choose Tools > Folder Options
-Now click the 3rd tab named File Types
-Wait until the Flashlight animating Icon has finished. You
    should now
see a whole list of icons. These are file types
-Go to the file type you wish to change. You could scroll
    until you
reached the right file type but this takes too long. So
    instead just
type the three letters of your file type - the extension in
    order (do it
quickly or you will just select a starting letter instead of
    a follow up
    letter. For example choose PNG;
-In the subcategory it says Details for '***' extension'
    where '***'
is the file type you chose. There are two buttons there.
    Click the
    Advanced button
-A new dialog window opens named "Edit File Type". Select the
    "New"
    button
-Another new dialog window opens named New Action. In the
    Action
field type a name for the action you want to perform. For
    example Open
    in Fireworks CS4
-Now click the Browse button and select the executable with
which you want to open the file extension. (Fireworks
    CS4.exe)
-Click OK in the New Action window
-Click OK in the Edit File Type window
-Click Close in the Folder Options window.
Do the same for all other file extensions you want to change.

  • RemoteApp file associations for non-domain computers

I have a customer with a simple AD domain, and some joined and some workgroup computers, all windows 8.1 pro. I want to connect them to my remote app service. We want to create a "default connection" for this remote app service, specifically for
the file type associations. We tried using the default connection group policy, but credentials are a problem. The remote app service has its own domain. So the "default connection" created by the group policy is trying to use the local logon credentials.
Is there a way to specify what default credentials are to be used for the remoteapp "default connection" using credential manager? Or is there a better way to accomplish remote app file type associations all together using non-domain joined Windows
8.1 and 2012R2 remote app on a different domain?

    Hi,
For your case, you can try the following way. You can create the RDP file as what you want and then publish that RDP file as RemoteApp with default user credentials. When non-domain joined system will get access to RD Web they will launch the RemoteApp as they
are using the other apps, the RDP file App will first get connect to the RDS Farm server name which is displayed and try to resolve that name through gateway or any other method which is configured. Once got resolve it will use the default user credentials
to connect to that user and then the user can use that RDP file to connect to the respective Server.
Apart for file type association you can go through the detailed article for more information.

  • Can't change file association for Office

    Hi
I've previously gone to Apple Support without success on this - so I hope it's not too obvious a question!
I'm running Office v.X on my new Macbook, having previously uninstalled the demo for Office 2004 from the machine. However, when I save Word files emailed over to me they are associated with the non-existent 2004 version of Word (11.2.0) and consequently I can't open them from the Finder (gives error -10660 as it can't find this application).
While I can change my Word files individually to point at the v.X version of Word that's actually running on the Macbook, if I click Change All from within the Get Info... box then the application in Open with... reverts back to 2004 Word! This makes it impossible for me to universally associate my Word documents with Word v.X. Grrrr.
Apple have suggest that the Finder is picking up that Office 2004 is still the default application. However I ran the uninstall utility and there's nothing obvious in the Library/Receipts folder - where apparently you'd expect this to be set.
Any ideas as it's really irritating?! Please keep it reasonably simple for me
    Many thanks

  • File associations for plsql

    Hi,
I am new to JDeveloper and I'm using it mainly for plsql development.
We have a standard file naming convention for packages (.pks for specs and .pkb for bodies). When I open those files in JDeveloper the files are not recognized as being plsql packages.
Due to this it is not possible to compile files directly from the file source.
Is there any way to associate the .pks and .pkb extensions with plsql in JDeveloper?

    Hi,
You should be able to do this from Tools.Preferences.File Types. Select "SqlNode" in the Recognized File Types list, then click Add... under Associated File Extensions to add .pks and .pkb.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • File association for .rexx files

    Hi all,
This will be my first post here. I've searched the web (and this forum) for an answer to my question, but have up untill now not been able to find it.
I have installed Regina Rexx, cuz I want to use that language as my command language. I've used it professionally for years in an IBM mainframe environment and at home on my Linux and Micro$oft machines.
Now I have it installed, and it works. Running rexxpcs gives me a whoppin' 8.462.623 executed clauses per second!
    Gerard-iMac:~ gerard$ rexx /usr/share/regina/rexxcps.rexx
    ----- REXXCPS 2.2 -- Measuring REXX clauses/second -----
    REXX version is: REXX-Regina_3.5 5.00 31 Dec 2009
           System is: UNIX
Averaging: 10 measures of 30 iterations
Performance: 8462623 REXX clauses per second
Now I would like to be able to start my xxxxxx.rexx files from within the finder. When I right click on such a file and open it's info pane - this is what every page on the subject suggests - I seem not to be able to allocate /usr/bin/rexx with my file(s).
    Questions:
    1. How do I proceed?
    2. Why (if not) does it not work this way?
Bear in mind that, however I consider myself computer literate, I am relatively new to the Apple domain...
    Thanks in advance,
    Gerard

Ok, I thought that's what you were trying to do but I just needed to be sure.
Since these kind of files are rexx interpreter files they are not applications and therefore cannot be directly executed from the finder.  And while you could get them to open in terminal the terminal has no way of knowing you want to use rexx on them.  So you need to encapulate (wrap) them to make them look like they are finder applications.
There are a number of shell command excapulators/wrappers.  One of my favorites is Platypus.   You can download it from macupdate.  Click that macupdate link because it suggests other shell wrappers than you may prefer as alternatives.  I'm mentioning this because if the shell commands generates any output (stdout, stderr) then not all of these wrappers handle output.  I haven't looked at Platypus for some time so I don't recall if it does or doesn't.  Maybe some of the alternatives do.
If the command doesn't generate any stdout/stderr output then Platypus (and many of the others) should work ok.  The end result is what looks like a normal finder application that you can execute.
Oh, almost forgot.  You could also encapsulate the shell commands using applescript.

  • Anyone know how to set file associations for QT in Inno Setup?

I am working on an app that requires QT to play .smi files and can't seem to get it to work. I was using this code in the Inno Setup file:
Root: HKCR; Subkey: ".smi"; ValueType: string; ValueName: ""; ValueData: "QuickTime.smi"; Flags: uninsdeletevalue
Root: HKCR; Subkey: "QuickTimePlayerFile"; ValueType: string; ValueName: ""; ValueData: "QuickTimePlayer File"; Flags: uninsdeletekey
Root: HKCR; Subkey: "QuickTimePlayerFile\DefaultIcon"; ValueType: string; ValueName: ""; ValueData: "{app}\QuickTimePlayer.exe,0"
Root: HKCR; Subkey: "QuickTimePlayer\shell\open\command"; ValueType: string; ValueName: ""; ValueData: """{app}\QuickTimePlayer.exe"" ""%1"""
but apparently it isn't right as it still gets launched by RealPlayer. Anyone done this before? How do I get the path to the app right? Is that what's wrong?

I too want to figure out that feature. Let me know if you figure it out!!!
With the Treo, you had the option of setting one ring tone for known callers and an alternate for unknowns. You could also add individual tones to specific callers. Given how 'clever' the iphone seems to be, I keep thinking there is a better option (that I'm missing) other than adding the ringtone individually for each of my several hundred contacts.
    Any suggestions?
