No file icons and Explorer freeze

Using Windows 8.1 x64. Here is what happened to my computer,
File explorer does not show associated file icons sometimes. For instance: I have an shortcut of Downloads on desktop. Sometimes it shows blank white icon sometimes downloads icon.
When I open My computer, control panel etc., (again sometimes) it says searching and never shows hard drives or control panel items. When I relaunch explorer, it's okey but randomly happens again. Also explorer does not respond randomly.
If I try to open Settings on the Charm bar, full screen settings icon appears and freezes. Alt-tab, ctrl-shift-esc etc does not work, I have to restart computer.
Tried;
- Delete IconCache.db
- Clean Boot (Disabling all services and startup items except windows services)
- sfc /scannow -> found nothing
++ I forgot, in safe mode, everything is ok.

is there any changes before this issue happen?
may I know your security software status?
did you try to scan your PC before?
please repeat create new admin account, clean boot and sfc once again to make sure there is no issue related to user profile issue, 3rd party software issue and registry issue
if not working i suggest you to perform system restore, back to condition when this PC working fine
and if still persist after system restore, since this issue intermittent, I suggest perform in place upgrade

Missing APPLICATIONS & FILE Icons and can't find my themes

Please help. I have a 3rd party application that I downloaded as required to my computer & now I need to transfer 5 files (JAR & TAR) files to my phone. It says to follow the path: files/media card/ Blackberry/new_phones.In the instructions it says to go to "Applications" icon and click, then "file" icon and click which will bring up ALL files, then click on "File Folders" then Media Card, then Blackberry then press new_phones, then click new phones again and I should see the files I need to set permissions on. I do not find a APPLICATION OR FILE ICON. I can go to Options, then advanced options and then applications but when I get there nothing says FILE. I have already put everything back to factory settings thinking maybe they were deleted at some point but there is still NO icons for these. I really do need some help installing these files to my phone. I dont mind if someone wants to remote into my computer to help me even. And since I reset everything to factory settings, I can't get to ABOUT to find out what OS that I am using or when I went to set a new theme that I just downloaded it only has one BB theme (BB Dimension Zen), the new one I just downloaded isn't even showing up. PLEASE help me fix my mess up and install the files to the phone. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty. You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod. If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

The Downloads folder's icon had changed to an file icon ,and cannot be opened.

IN my Finder ,the Downloads folder's icon had changed to an file icon ,and cannot be opened. when i open it's info window,In the Sharing & Permissions section, it shows that you have unknow permision. i don't know what i had done before it changed .perhaps the FTP settings?or files Sharings? how can i restore it to the default setting?

White screen with file icon and Question mark after a kernel panic???

I'm using my girlfriends 20" iMac and her computer keeps having kernel panics. And then at times when we restart the computer, we get a white screen with a file icon and a question mark inside. Any ideas on what to do???? Her graduation project is on that computer and she is stressed like you wouldn't believe. Safe to say, I'm taking the brunt of it. Please help!!!

It sounds like you might be having a hard drive problem. The folder icon with question mark means the computer can't find a startup drive/system folder. I suggest that you back up all important data, especially her project. Before bringing it in for service, run the Apple Hardware Test - put in your original system restore DVD and restart the computer, holdng down the "D" key. Run the extended diagnositics (it will take over an hour (depending on how much RAM you have) and will tell you if there is anything wrong with your hardware. If it dinds a problem then you can take it to the nearest Apple authorized service provider to check it out.

File icons and app icons hidden?

Has anyone else had this happen since upgrading to Mavericks? Anyone know a solution?

Nano scollling through files icon and apple icon, won't restore

Help, this is troubling.
When plugged into the computer my nano scolls though three screens: apple, file icon with exclamation point and then www.apple.com/suuport/ipod and then flickers back and starts over. The sceen seems quite dim also. And I can't get it to reset, restore or to go into disk mode when plugged into the computer.
If I plug it into the wall it just goes to the icon file and the web site view. Then I can get it into disc mode (no other modes though) but when I unplug it from the wall to plug it into the computer it seems to fade a little bit and as soon as I get it plugged into the computer it starts its three page cycle again. So the computer won't recognize it and it won't stop cycling. It is only a few months old so I don't see how it could be the battery.
Any ideas at all??

Hi Tom, thank you for responding. I have had the same problem using 2 computers, one is an HP Compaq nx8220 laptop running Windows XP Professional Version 5.1, the other one is a LG Tablet also running XP Professional. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes on both. The problem originally happened when I was updating the iPod on the LG, I left it charging and when I returned a few hours later the iPod didn't work. I then went through the 5 stepts as per the web site which resulted in the iPod needing to be restored. I hope this helps.

Lost all application and file icons and more

Today i discovered that for some reason i could not drag files around on the desktop or moving them between folders. I used restarted the mac - nothing changed. I used OnyX to run all the maintenance tasks, repair prefs, clean caches, optimize system, etc... Onyx asked for system restart - which i did and now i have more problems than before.
after restart all the files on my desktop lost the application associations (ie icon changed from PDF icon to blank paper with folded corner). I opened the Applications folder to find that all the applications lost their correct icons and are now represented by a blue folder - all native osx applications, mail, safari, etc... as well as third-party apps. the only one that kept its icon correctly was Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Dock lost all it's correct application icons and now just show folders and some gray question marks. Finder and Trash bin still have correct icons. Everything else is wrong. Question marked apps won;t open from dock... (these are mail, safari, and sherlock)
If i click on an application from applications folder (safari for example) it opens fine and does what it is supposed to do. Most other apps seem to still function.
Also stil have problem that files still could not be dragged around or moved around in Finder.
I'm running 10.2.8 on a G4 1.25dp tower that has been very stable for a long time. I have no idea what happened or how to fix.

I gave up fighting to figure out what was wrong with OS X. I just repartitioned the harddrive after backing up and re-installed the OS an applications.

Performance problems with File Adapter and XI freeze

Hi NetWeaver XI geeks,
We are deploying a XI based product and encounter some huge performance problems. Here after the scenario and the issues:
- NetWeaver XI 2004
- SAP 4.6c
- Outbound Channel
- No mapping used and only the iDocs Adapter is involved in the pipeline processing
- File Adapter
- message file size < 2Ko
We have zeroed down the problem to Idoc adapters performance.
We are using a file channel and every 15 seconds a file in a valid Idoc format is placed in a folder, Idoc adapter picks up the file from this folder and sends it to the SAP R/3 instance.
For few minutes (approx 5 mins) it works (the CPU usage is less then 20% even if processing time seems huge : <b>5sec/msg</b>) but after this time the application gets blocked and the CPU gets overloaded at 100% (2 processes disp_worker.exe at 50% each).
If we inject several files in the source folder at the same time or if we decrease the time gap (from 15 seconds to 10 seconds) between creation of 2 Idoc files , the process blocks after posting 2-3 docs to SAP R/3.
Could you point us some reasons that could provoke that behavior?
Basically looking for some help in improving performance of the Idoc adapter.

We wonder if the hardware is not the problem of this extremely poor performance.
Our XI server is:
     Windows 2003 Server
     Processors: 2x3GHZ
     RAM: 4GB (the memory do not soak)
The messages are well formed iDocs = single line INVOICES.
Some posts are talking 2000 messages processed in some seconds... whereas we got 5 sec per message.

Why do I get a files icon and a Firefox icon when I save a website to my desktop?

When ever I save a website to my desktop I usually get two icons that show up on my desktop. One of the icons is the link to the website the other is a file folder filled with a bunch of files that I don't recognize. If I delete the file folder icon the website icon deletes as well. I have not had this issue before until recently.
Is there a way to save the website to my desktop without the files icon showing up as well?
It really clutters things up.
I am using Windows 7.

File Icons and types mysteriously changing

I'm running a MacMini as a server for a small office. There are only three clients attached so I use personal filesharing. All files are shared on an external drive using Sharepoints. It's been working just fine until recently. Many files (hundreds) are suddenly showing up as generic, UNIX exe files. It's not just new files, too. Old files are appearing the same way. I've repaired permissions, made sure that I had the latest version of Sharepoints, repaired the external drive and ran "Cache Out X". Am I missing something? Is this a known issue and, if so, what caused the sudden change? It would be an unthinkable amount of work to search for and change all the files manually.
The mini is running OSX 10.4.6.

I figured out what was going on. Somehow (is there a key command that could do this?), I had activated the "Show Icon Preview" option that can be checked or unchecked in the dialog that appears when selecting the View | Show View Options from the Finder menu bar. I unchecked the "Show Icon Preview" checkbox, and the icons reverted to what I wanted. I have no idea how this got enabled, as I'm positive that I didn't set it from the Finder menu.

File icons and dates

lately, files are not showing correct icons... example: mpg or wmv files being represented by a text icon... if I double click the file... it will open with the correct application....quicktime or media player
along with this file dates are not correctly being shown... example:
when I look at my quicken 2005 backup folder's window... all the files say april 3, 2005... but when I look at the files from within the quicken application... opening the file from quicken's menu... the dates are correct?

Issues with new AirPort...worst i- uploading files Stall and Stop/Freeze

I am having a few annoying problems but the one that is the most urgent is that file transfers to servers have quit working. I have the latest AirPort Utility installed (5.3.2), the latest Fetch software installed (5.3) and have checked the Apple Software updates, it is all set.
The ftp server freezes ( 'stall' shows on the ftp window ) partially through the upload. These files used to be a breeze and transfer quickly. This is happening on my website ftp server and that of another that I tried, it is not the server at issue.
Other issue: in browsers, loading of pages is often slow, especially the first time I launch Firefox, nothing comes up even though default page is in preference. Safari is working about the same as it did, which is OK but not always perfect, so I do have that but want the other to work since it works better and is more like windows when I need to check site pages I am developing.
Upstairs computer iMac (2 floors away from the Airport) is working well. We didn't put the new AirPort Utility on that machine, it didn't need it. The two laptops, one even in the same room as the Airport, are having these issues. Neither would work at all until the AirPort Utility that came with the unit was installed, but we are, to repeat, having these issues.

However, you were so focused on it you didn't understand that the reason the update isn't an update is because it disables half the card, which means only the primary function is usible and its secondary function, the other half of the reason it was purchased years ago, becomes meaningless.
I understood perfectly and you can revert to the older driver to regain functionality again, but that does not solve the issue with PR. It makes me wonder why the manufacturer updated the driver version, but disabled part of the functionality in this newer version. Did they have compatibility issues they could not solve?
Anyway, your first step after reverting to the older driver should be to creact a new project using a DV preset, capture some clips from your DV camera and see if you still have the problems. If not, you will know that the other clips caused problems because of the codec.
It was not my idea to call it scratch disks, that is the way Adobe calls it and as such they are mentioned in the manual and help file. Using other terms makes it much harder to find the information even though you may be used to other terms.

When (attempting to) boot up my 2007 MacBook, I only get a white screen with a flashing gray file icon and a white question mark on the file

I have the battery plugged in, everything I normally do when booting up the computer. The major problem is not being able to access anything.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.
