No File in Movie?

Suddenly FCP will not read Livetype files. This is a brand new install of FCPHD & LT, but all the textures and objects are loaded (I double checked). the project was created on another FCP system. In Livetype everything looks perfect, however FCP does not see the old or new Livetype files. How do I fix this?
Thanks,

The files haven't been transferred, but apparently the software wasn't a clean install as I had thought. It was one of those transfer installs from another computer. We're gonna try to do a clean install of the software and see what happens. Thanks guys.

Which is it, man? Your posts are contradictory.
You clearly say the files were created on another system. That would mean they were transferred, yes?
Now you say the FCP install was "transferred." I don't know if that's really even possible.
Eventually we'll be able to help you out if only we could get accurate information.

  • Delete songs from itunes library, no option to keep file or move to recycle bin

    iTunes Version 11.0.1.12
I just finished moving my library to a different drive and all seemed to be fine until I started cleaning out some duplicate songs.  When I delete a song from the library, it does not ask if you want to keep the file or move to the recycle bin.  Only 1 window comes up asking - Are you sure you want to delete the selected song?.....and there are only 2 choices - Delete Song or Cancel.  "Do not ask me again" still shows in the window with the box.
In Preferences under Advanced, the path shows  - G:\iTunes\iTunes Media\iTunes Music.
I checked for other references to this but could not locate.
Would certainly appreciate some help - thanks

I have this question too - Help tells me option is there but it's not

  • ITunes no longers asks "Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?" - Can this be fixed?

I'm not sure if this was a recent update in Mavericks, but when I used to delete items from iTunes it would ask something along the lines of:
Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?
Now I no longer get this, instead iTunes asks:
Are you sure you want to delete the selected song from your iTunes library?
After which, if you choose the option "Delete Song", you get no option to keep the original file, it just straight up deletes if from my library and hard drive. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? For whatever reason, I want to be able to keep the original file on my Mac, without keeping it in my iTunes library.
I've tried resetting dialogue warning, and this hasn't made a difference.
    Thanks!

Running Mac OS X Version 10.7.2  Lion on a MacBook Pro
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Any ideas?

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks.
My HD is a "normal" HD, so I guess it's HFS+. (According to Disk Utility it is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The NAS is WD MyBook Live Duo. I just plugged into my Time Machine.
I am relocating using Aperture "relocate originals for project" under the File tab.
Ahh, thanks for the answer to question 1.
Yes, I am trying to relocate them, but tried different things to find the problem.
And the problem seems to be that when an image gets an extra attribute (when it's downloaded from the internet, when it is comes from a mail message) then Aperture seems not to be able to move the file.
I.e. Aperture presumeably asks the Finder or kernel to perform this task, and this then fails because of the extra attirbutes that were set.
I now found a way of manually removing the extra attributes, but that is a pain.
    Think of this normal workflow:
    - someone sends me an email containing images
    - I move the images to my Desktop
    - I then import the images into Aperture
    - I then decide to relocate my images for that project to my NAS
Then is when this problem occurs.
So I just tried to relocate to another place on my HD.
    That works fine.
I looked again at the error message.
And it says "could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor" .
So, yes, it seems like it has to do with the NAS not supporting setting the extra attributes.
And as long as there are no extra attributes on an image, there is no problem.
(Not completely true, but I have another thread about that)
Thanks Frank, I have to digest this a bit.
    Regards
    Jan

  • I want to start a new movie but iMovie is hung looking for an old file and says:"Without this file, the movie cannot play properly."

    Hello!
I recently upgraded to Lion. Every time I start up iMovie, it asks if I want to go ahead and generate thumbnails. I say OK, then it alerts me that it cannot file the file IMG_0073.MOV. Then it says "Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." It gives me the option to either cancel or search for the movie.
I don't have the old file it's looking for. I simply want to start a fresh movie with new material but cannot get past this hump. Based on the little research I have done, some people experienced this problem because the files were in aperture at some point, which was the case for me before when I used iMovie. I have since moved forward only with iPhoto but perhaps it's hung on an old file format?
I tried taking another old movie and renamed it IMG_0073.mov to see if I could simply select it, give it what it wants and move on but it won't let me select the file for some reason. I also tried removing iMovie and downloading a fresh version but that didn't work either. My BF tried removing pfiles (I think that's what it's called? but again no luck)
Please help! I must get this assignment done for a class!

  • Unsupported file type (.mov)

I am using Adobe After Effects CS4 (9...)
I am trying to create Andrew Krammer's ,,crumble" effect (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/procedural_crumble/)
If you skip at 23:44 you will see that he is adding an imported .mov file.
Everytime i try to import a .mov file, i get the following error: After Effects error: Can't import file "NAME.mov": unsupported file type or extension.     ( 0::1 )
I think I have what I need: QuickTime 7.7.1 (it's the latest version I found, right from Apple's website)
(I don't know if this really helps:) When i click File>Export> QuickTime is disabled, not selectable. It says: QuickTime 7.4.1 or later required (even though i have 7.7.1)
I do not really want to convert the .mov into anything else because I saw that the .mov file (from Andrew Krammer's video) don't display the background, only the dust (in my case). Other video types DO display the black background. The files I try to import to AE work (they can be opened with QuickTime, no errors)

What is your OS? After Effects requires QuickTime. Is your AE up to date?

  • Some Finder Sounds Aren't Working (Trash File and Move File)?

Last night I noticed that *some of the finder sounds* aren't working (trashing and moving a file/folder) on my mac mini. The rest of the finder sounds seem unaffected (emptying the trash, removing an icon from the dock). I tried some solutions online with limited success.
    Odd things that are happening:
    1) After a reboot, the first time I delete a file or move a folder, the *monitor resets itself*. Kinda like when you change the resolution. My TV loses the feed for a sec and quickly reestablishes it. After this happens, no finder sounds for moving and trashing
    2) I heard some people were having this same problem because of coreaudiod.plist files (Library/Preferences/Audio. When I copy the com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist to the desktop these finder sounds return, but just for this file. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10465859
    3) I noticed these problems after I started using the Kanex Mini DisplayPort Adapter To HDMI 1080p Video w/ Digital Audio. http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495 But, I tried switching back to the old setup of a basic minidvd to hdmi and a rca y cable and it made no difference.
    4) I also completely did a fresh install and everything worked fine until late in the process after I did a reboot (see point 1). Is it a third party software problem? I installed the HippoRemoteVNC that allows me to take control of the computer with the iphone. I also have installed Plex, Boxee, XBMC, Perian codecs, Hulu desktop, Quicktime 7, and Transmission.
    System Specs:
    Computer: Mac Mini (Late 2009) - 2.26Ghz, 2GB RAM, 10.6.1
    Monitor: Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Video/Audio Connection: Kanex Mini DisplayPort Adapter To HDMI 1080p Video w/ Digital Audio
    Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Go to your /Applications/Utilities folder and run the Audio MIDI Setup application.
Confirm settings there match your expectations.

  • Can't delete, rename files, or move to another folder

I had posted earlier about not being able to delete, rename files, or move to another folder. It never was resolved here, and I guess Apple still hasn't done anything about it. Here's a great workaround I found though in case others need something. Download the program called "Unlocker", it's free and you can get it at http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ When you get the message about the file being in use, even though QuickTime isn't even open, you can unlock the f'ing file and do whatever you want to then, move, uh DELETE, or rename, or whatever. Try it, it's the best thing going so far seeing Apple isn't doing anything about this problem.

    Hi there,
I am still struggling with this problem. Actually my coworker has the same machine, Apple pro with windows xp installed, but he does not have this problem with his quicktime 7.5. I uninstalled 7.5 and installed 7.2, but it did not solve the problem. The fact is that I don't have the problem in my laptop which I am using it in the office. I am still trouble shooting. Hopefully I can find an answer.
    Peace

  • Prores files not recognized... most of the time [message -- file '[file name].mov' cannot be imported – this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported.]

Running AE CC 13.2 on iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2
I just started getting an error message when trying to import any number of ProRes 422 (HQ) files.
file ‘[file name].mov’ cannot be imported – this ‘MooV’ file is damaged or unsupported.
This happens approximately 90% of the time. There have been occasions where I can open and view files of this type.
I have gone through the various troubleshooting options here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktime-files-in -after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quicktime-component.html
I reinstalled ProApps to no avail.
    Permissions are fine.
Creative Cloud recently updated AE over the past few days. Perhaps this incremental update fouled something up? Last weekend, things worked perfectly fine.
I have also noticed that it takes a lot longer to load AE (since using last weekend). I have used Time Machine to roll the application back to last week's version to see if that helps.
    Any insight is appreciated.

The update last week was just to Adobe Camera RAW and not really AE. It would be unlikely to cause the issues you describe. Have you tried turning your Mac all the way off and then back on again?

  • How do I archive a processed file and move

This is not our standard. Our standard is to output the extract file, then
archive a copy. The reason is that a process usually comes along afterward and
moves the file to another location.
Also within scope of this item is the need to confirm that any successor
processes like copying the file actually move the file, when the successor(s)
are done, there should be no file left in the 817 folder so that we know the
    processing happened.

Presently it  is the last run that is going into the achieve. I want my current run as well to go into the achieve at run time.
The exe is an automatic set up for the archieve folder.
A different job will be processed to take away the folder as indicated in the requirement and at that point in time there should be no file in the 817 folder anymore.
    Hope it is clearer now.
So how is it controlled currently? Using a conditional precedence constraint?

  • How can I convert rm file to .mov?

    Hi,guys
Can anyone tell me what software is used for converting RM file to MOV file?
    Thanks

    I had the same issue, however I used this program to transfer ...avi,mpg,wma..etc...;
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
I'm pasting this from the Videora site, the settings worked for me when others didn't, enjoy:
    Configuring videora converter
    0) Start Videora iPod converter.
    1) Click setup in the left nav.
    1.5) Click the profiles tab.
    2) Click new profile.
    3) Now, configure that profile:
    profile name: ipod
    in the video settings section...
    mode: MPEG-4 > CBR
    resolution: 320x240
    passes: one
bitrate: 768 kbps (384 kbps also works)
    framerate: 29.97 fps
    in the audio settings section...
    bitrate: 128 kbps
    sample rate: Input
    channels: stereo
    4) Click apply to save the profile.
    Now, you're ready to transcode.
    1) Click convert on the left nav.
    2) Click the transcode new video button.
    3) Pick your source video. Mine was an AVI from a torrent.
    4) Under quality profile, choose "ipod", the profile you created using the steps above.
    5) Click start.
Now you're ready to get the video on your ipod
    1) In iTunes, under the File menu, select add file to library. Find the transcoded one. By default, the transcoded videos pop out under the Videora install directory.
    2) Drag and drop to your ipod.
    Questions/observations:
    1) I haven't been able to get H264 anything to work. Is it broken? How much smaller than MPEG4 is it?
    2) 768 kbps video was about 400 megs/hour; 384 kbps video was about 231 megs/hour. I could readily see a difference in video quality.

I recently purchased QuickTime 7 Pro to convert avi files to mov files for editing on Imovie. However, QuickTime won't play the files. How can I get them to play and how can I convert them to mov files?
Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • File GEDV0020.MOV is missing

I have imported some clips from my GE DVX HD camera into iPhoto but when I import them into iMovie I get the message that the file GEDV0020.MOV is missing and the movie won't lay correctly without it.  I can either cancel the import or search for the file but either choice freezes the iMovie program and the computer and I have to do a force shutdown to get the computer working properly.  When I import the clips directly from the camera to iMovie everything seems to work fine.

The rootpre.sh script cannot find the pw-syscall file in the current directory.
pw-syscall is the post-wait extension for AIX.
You have to run the rootpre.sh in the current directory.
    First try this:
    cp -r /cdrom/rootpre /tmp/rootpre
    cd /tmp/rootpre
    ./rootpre.sh
If this does not work check your packages in AIX.
As last resort, use patch 2896876

  • Deleting iMovie files & exported movies causes errors in all of iLife

I just went through quite an ordeal...
In an attempt to clean up some space, I deleted a bunch of my iMovie project files and movies after backing them up (files in the default Movies folder). I have deleted iMovie projects before with no issues.
This time, it caused errors in iDVD, iMovie, and iPhoto...it would say: "Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again." It would say this over and over and over again and often completely hang up my application so that I would have to force quit. This would repeat itself over and over...
I read about this in other forums and erased .plist files in User > Library, etc...This solved the problem for other people, but it kind of made it worse for me. Long story short, I ended up having to restore from Time Machine my entire system just to get iLife working again... I also searched for Aliases and externally referenced libraries or files, and I do not have any.
So now I have those files again. I want to delete them again. But I'm afraid! (P.S. This may also be related to deleting the Aperture Trial Library in the Photos folder...I am also posting about that to the Aperture forum.)
Does anyone know what the deal with this is? How come before I did not have problems but am now? How do I safely delete iMovie files without having this happen again?
    THANK YOU!

iMovie is a non-destructive editor, meaning that all original clips are maintained in the folder, even after editing. Until you render the movie to DVD, all the original files are still "in the background". Kind of hard for me to explain. Others here could give more technical details. You would have to delete your movie from the folder to regain all the hard drive space.
If your idea is to archive your movies, a better method is to record them back to tape. Otherwise, get an external drive to store the finished movies and then delete the original files.
One word of caution about emptying the iMovie trash. This has been known to cause problems with a work in progress and it is generally advised to leave the iMovie trash alone until your project is finished and burned to a DVD.
