No file permission with Admin

I have been in the process of backing up my server onto my backup Windows server, and during the process, I have been getting file handling errors for certain files and folders, and i'm noticing it seems to happen if these files in question ar enamed a certain way. So i'm going back to the files and changing them, but when i go to do so, it says I don't have the proper permission to do so, even with the Administrator account i'm using. I try to do it remotely with another computer that is logged into it with full control, and the same thing happens.
I did have this problem before, but it was fixed when I copied everything onto another drive, then pasted it back in. But as of now, all the files i transferred, even the ones that went over successfully, are giving this error, and I simply don't have the space to copy everything and do this. How can i fix this? Thanks

Could we please see your code so we can see if you wired something incorrectly?

  • Changing oracle file permission with ftp / sql

I can use as well filezilla, connecting with hostname / uname: system / pass / myoraclesystem pass.
Is there a way to change file permission attributes with ftp?

    Hi,
Check out ORDSYS.ORDImage type from Oracle Intermedia, and especially its "process" method.
It possesses various commands to change image properties.

  • Why can't I delete simple photo files even with admin access?

I'm cleaning my Time Capsule HD deleting some photo files. Most of them were just moved to trash, but when I try to move a specific folder, the OS asks my password saying that Finder wants to make changes. After typing in my password I receive a message that I don't have permission to access some of the items. It dosn't make any sense since I, same account tring to delete them, have copied these files into that folder.
    I really appreciate any support.
    Thaks and regards,
    Alex

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup?  Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. • Unable to modify/replace/unlock hosts file with admin account

    Hi all,
I'm having a serious issue when trying to modify the hosts file in Yosemite 10.10.3
I already tried through the terminal with sudo commands, Get Info window, editing the file externaly and then trying to replace the original hosts with the new but nothing works. Already repaired the disk permisions in case it had to be with the issue but didn't help.
I'm using an account with admin privileges but it seems I'm not allowed to unlock the file.
Here is a screenshot of how the GetInfo windows looks like for the hosts file:
And here is what I get when trying to save from sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Any help will be highly welcomed.

         sudo chflags nouchg /private/etc/hosts
and relock it when you've finished
         sudo chflags uchg /private/etc/hosts
    It's locked for a reason.

  • Opening Files with Admin Privleges

    Hello all:
How do you open a file with admin privileges once you are in the program? Is it possible to run a program with admin privileges? The reason I ask is that I installed the GUI version of vim and need to be able to open some files which will be read-only unless I supply an administrator password.
    John

You can open any application capable of running in Mac OS X natively as root by entering:
    sudo /path/to/application/Contents/MacOS/application
in the Terminal, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. This works on a per-run basis, and the command will need to be entered each time you want to launch the application. Other methods exist which only require the password to be entered once, and work on a per-application basis.

  • User with admin rights can't access files through the command prompt

I have a strange situation where I have 2 users both setup exactly the same with admin rights on a 2003 (32 bit) server through an AD group membership, but one can do everything as expected but the other can't.
The one that can't is trying to execute a program is a command prompt and keeps getting access denied or invalid directory when trying to cd into the folder.   I double and tripled check the permissions and they are correct, this person should have
full admin.  In fact I did a effective permissions through explorer and it states full rights.  Along those lines this person can also access the folder in question through explorer just not a command prompt.
Has anyone seen this before ? and if so what can be done about it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can the user execute the program through explorer? In Windows Server 2003, the Users group does not have Read and Execute permissions to the command processor (Cmd.exe).
You could refer to the article below to resolve the issue:

  • Share directory with users (file permission, symbolic link?)

I have a folder called Music inside my home directory. I want the user "family" to be able to explore and read the files in there. I have set up this file permissions (recursively):
    drwxr-s--- 201 pablo users 12K jun 7 16:50 /home/pablo/Music
User "pablo" belongs to the groups "pablo" and "users". user "family" belongs only to the group "users" but not to "pablo".
/home/pablo belongs to group "pablo" and it's file permission is 700, and I want to keep it that way.
Creating a symlink in /home/family/Music that points to /home/pablo/Music was of no use because when trying to cd into it, it says PERMISSION DENIED.
How can I have read access to that folder from the user "family"?

    You can do the following:
    a. Add a "family" group and change the group owner of your music directory to "family".
    b. Change directory permissions to 750 to allow listing and reading the directory by members of the "family" group but not writing to.
    c. Add all family members to the "family" group you've just created (or have just one "family" user to be member of the "family" group).
I'd also move that public directory outside my home directory too.

  • After system restore: why no more write permission with TM on TC?

    Hi.
Last week I did a little mistake on my Macintosh HD by assigning user rights to all subfolders. I recognized my failure - but after confirming the warning advice...
After that procedure (with a lot of failure advices) the system did not run any more. No problem - I'm using the 1TB time capsule and do have backups from the same day. So I restored my hole system by using the boot dvd and so on. Everything works fine so far.
    BUT:
2 days later I recognized, that TM doesn't work since I restored my system. When I opened the TM configuration, it says that I need to asign a backup volume. OK - so I tried to asign the data file from the TC that I used before. I could see and confirm the file, but then there comes the advice (analogous):
You don't have permission to write an that external network device.
Log in as other user or contact your network administrator.
    I'M THE ADMIN!
I tried all the hints I found in the web: repair the sparesbundle, reset TC, repair permissions in HD, create an new user with admin permissions,...
    Nothing helps.
Only after I installed BatCHmod, chose the "old" data-file and marking the option "unlocking", TM works as before. The next backup needs a lot of time, because it backups the hole HD.
Why did TM not work after the backup? How could it happen that there are major permission problems after using original Apple hard- and software?
Why do I need a app from the web to run my system??
    Thanks so far,

    Hi tstand,
Are you able to run the sequence if you're logged in as the Administrator on your computer?  Also, are you able to access the LabVIEW Run Time Engine at all from this user account?  Try running a simple LabVIEW executable.  Can you call LabVIEW code modules from any other steps, or do you receive this error every time you call any LabVIEW code module?
    Thanks,

Does the machine that is using LabVIEW 8.6 use Windows XP or Windows 7?
The reason I ask is that the new machine looks like it has Windows 7. I have seen it where on Windows 7 you think you are an admin (because it says so), but being an admin isn't really the same thing as being a real, "super" admin. I've run into this on other computers, where Windows prevented me from doing all kinds of things with files (like editing, moving) because I was not an administrator even though it said I was...
I don't have Windows 7 on this machine, so I'm not sure exactly how to fix it, but I have run into this on other machines. After you make sure the account you are using has admin rights on Windows 7, maybe try Googling something like "Windows 7 not admin" or something similar.

  • Network file permission error and Log???  Need help...

    Hi everyone!
Based on what I learned here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1760312&#1760312
I have a log in my script like this:
set log_path to (startup disk as string) & "Applications:My Folder:My Log"
set the_date to (current date) as string
set logfilecontent to (open for access file log_path with write permission)
    try
    write the_date & return & "Here's my Log:" & return & "item1" & return to logfilecontent starting at eof
    on error
    close access logfilecontent
    end try
    close access logfilecontent
It has always worked but this is part of an app. I just realized that this will work on my admin login but not on a regular login (I mean logging into the computer). And if I change the owner/group of the app sometimes it will change if I can do it either on an admin login or standard. I often get a Network file permission error and it gets stuck. I know it's something to do with permissions, but maybe I don't fully understand still? I need it so it will work on admin or standard login without that error. In that same link above a user mentions he had the same problem. So there's something I'm just not getting??? And I know it's here with the Log because I took it out and no problem. Hope you guys can help out???
    Thanks in advance,
    Reg

If the log already exists on the hard disk, you may not be able to write to it from a non-admin account, and you may want to avoid writing to the Applications folder. You can provide an empty log in the expected place which allows all accounts to write to it, but the permissions may be lost when the application is installed.
Alternative options include creating different logs for each account:
set log_path to (startup disk as string) & "Applications:My Folder:" & (do shell script "whoami") & "'s Log"
or writing the log to the account's home folder:
set log_path to (path to home folder as string) & "Library:Preferences:My Folder:My Log"

  • File sharing with another user on a Mac

    Dear Guru,
I am trying to add my wife on my Macbook as another user with Admin privilege.  And I also want to share certain files in a folder with her.  This folder was shared (following the instructions from the internet) and was moved under a "Public" folder under me (as an user).  And of course, this "Public" folder was also marked "shared".  But when my wife cannot see this folder from her side after logging in.  Can someone tell me why?  What did I do wrong?
    James

There's a simpler way to do this.   OS X automatically creates a user folder called "Shared".   Look in Mac HD > Users > Shared.
This user account (folder) and any files or folders you save there are available to all users on the Mac.  It's the quickest way to copy, move or share files across accounts on the same Mac.   There is no need to turn on File Sharing or otherwise specify shared folders.
One note:  although the /users/Shared folder itself has full Read & Write permission for all users, OS X file permissions are still operative on any files or folders you put there yourself.   Often by default, documents and other files you create will have a "Read Only" permission for the group "everyone."   You may need or want to change the file or folder permission for "everyone" to Read & Write if you want other users on your Mac to be able to directly edit that particular document or file.   This is easy enough to do in GetInfo.

  • Network file permission error

I've finally tracked down the source of the problem for third-party template installers that get the network file permission error. I'm not sure if Peter (Laimavia) has been here discussing this, but he uses the same installer and Jumsoft (iLifeStuff) would be using the same method as well so neither of them would be exempt from this issue.
It looks like JTemplate is resetting the admin file permissions for TemplatesInfo.plist to read only. Why it does this is questionable - it's absolutely not necessary. It allows JTemplate full control of the file, but it blocks any other third-party installer from updating the file. <scratching head>
If you're using JTemplate and you purchase templates for iWeb, you will likely encounter an error that states Network File Permission Error when trying to install them. I'm not a UNIX guru so I could not find a way to set the permissions back to read/write. When I tried this, my access dropdown was entirely disabled at the admin level - even when I unlocked the settings. Even the back-up copy of TemplatesInfo.plist that JTemplate makes for you is reset to read-only permissions so even if you thought you're reverting to your original installation, you're not.
On my development machine where JTemplate was not installed, the default iWeb installation allows admin access to that file with read/write permissions so it would seem the only way to undo this problem is to reinstall iWeb.
Testing confirmed all of these results, including the reinstall. Template installers worked just fine once the files were restored so if you're getting that error, that's what you need to do.

Okay I'm talking with Peter now... he was already aware of the issue and also confirmed that JTemplate was the source of this problem. He provided this solution for resetting your file permissions. I'm not sure if you have to do this every time JTemplate is used. I'll test it later and report back.
If you are familiar with the "Terminal" application, then this should do the trick:
    Open up Terminal. ( Applications/Utilities/Terminal )
    Copy and paste this:
    sudo -s
    cd /Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Templates
    chmod g+w TemplatesInfo.plist
    Now, hit enter. Close terminal.
Try and run the installers again

  • Find and replace with multiple files and with a watch folder

I am trying to create a watch folder that uses red_menace script to:
    1. Have a folder that receives multiple xml files that run the script one by one.
    2. then move the files to an output folder.

  • There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection..

    hello,
there has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost.
this is the error my client gets sometimes when he wants to save a word document.
when i go in the finder i have no problem accessing that network share, and when i look up the file and check the permissions there is no reason why this error should occure.
    situation :
    1 os 10.3.9 server
    7 os 10.5.5 clients
    1 os 10.3.9 client
office 2004 for mac (version 11.50)
there are 2 10.5.5 clients (emacs) with this problem on a regular base (3-5 times a week). One imac 17" 10.5.5 has this once a month.
it is a wired cat5 network.
any idea what could cause this problem?
    thanks
    Marco

I found a logical explanation on the following site : http://www.makemacwork.com/office-2004-wont-save-to-server.htm , I am gonna try the steps they describe and post back the result.
