No File Preview in "Open" or "Save As" windows in Ps CS6

This may be a small convenience feature, but I noticed that I can't preview a file in Ps CS6 in the Open window
Ps CS5 is below:
I can select a PSD file and preview it whereas I cannot in CS6:
Same thing with "Save As" and "Place" windows
Not a big deal, but after all it's the little things that count

"Forced" to use Bridge?
I'm not saying you should have to pay for a codec pack (I happen to agree that Adobe should provide a good codec for their formats), BUT...
Note these screen grabs of Windows Explorer and Photoshop's File-Open dialog... Note especially the raw file thumbnails. Unseen here is that you can view all of these formats seamlessly in the Windows Photo Viewer.
A good, complete codec pack may just be worth paying for, REGARDLESS of whether you're planning to get Photoshop CS6.

Shortcuts in Open or Save AS Window?

Dear all,
How can I set up my Adobe Acrobat Standard, so when I need to save a document or open one I have the most used folders as shortcuts along with My Documents, Descktop, My Comuter icons on the menu on the left side of the "Open" or "Save As" Window?. I have done it Word 2003 and 2007, but in Adobe when I click on it it comes with one question "What's this?" ... Such shortcuts come very handy and save a lot of time when dealing with a lot of files during the day. Thank you!

You can't. Microsoft Office uses customized versions of the Windows API dialogs with extra features, Acrobat does not.

Firefox 3.6.8 won't open local php files. It opens the save as text dialog box instead.

When I try to open a local php file on my MAC hard drive with FF 3.6.8, the save file dialog box opens instead. It says: You have chosen to open index.php which is a TextEdit.app Document. I do not have this problem with Firefox 3.5.11.
I have tried:
opening the file directly from Firefox as well as
double clicking the file (which is the most common way).
I have also tried changing the file "open with" preference to "open with Firefox." That did not work either.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
I'm on a MAC OS 10.5.8

You have to delete mimeTypes.rdf.
You can find it here (Windows XP): C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Aplication Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default.

Links to files doesn't open in a new window

I've noticed that links (that refers to a specific file) created in Adobe Indesign doesn't open in a new window like the links that refers to a website when I autoconverts it in Acrobat Pro X.
Example:
LINK1: http://www.acrobat.com/testfile.pdf <--- does not open in a new window when clicked
LINK2: http://www.acrobat.com/testfolder <--- opens in a new window when clicked
Are there any way to fix this?
Will the same problem occur if I create the links in Acrobat instead?
I'm asking this because I don't want the form to disappear when the links are clicked.

Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
"Open search results in a new browser window"
I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
Does it make any difference?

How do I get my computer to start opening up files instead of opening a pop up window rather than the file?

My computer has started opening up pop up windows that say, "Step 1: Select File, Information Gathered Successfully, Step 2: Click Show Information Button", instead of opening the file I click on. This informaion windown has generated another pop up window that suggests I visit the iTunes store for an app that will open the file. Twice I have purchased apps that the iTunes store said would open the file. Twice the apps have made no difference at all. The apps did not open the file. Even more frustrating than being sold apps that don't work is that the files I'm trying to open are textedit files created with the software on the very computer that is now refusing to open them.
How do I get beyond the pop-ups and open the files I created?
Is it possible to return the apps that iTunes said would work, but did not?

Downloading Files When Clicking Open or Save Nothing Happens

Hello
I work as part of a IT team within a organization that has 200+ Windows 8.1 devices, recently we have been experiencing a problem when downloading files using Internet Explorer 11.
You click the file to download (word document,PDF etc) and you get the yellow bar at the bottom asking you to open save etc but when you select any of the options nothing happens and this is becoming increasingly more common.
I cant believe we are the only people to have this issue but i have searched and cant find any answers.
I hope somebody can help us.

View Downloads under Tools at the right-up corner of Internet Explorer, or tap
Ctrl + J, check and see if the downloads is available there.

Preview iView / Open iView in new window not properly working

I've got a question regarding previewing an iView (by pressing the "Preview" button in its properties) or opening an iView in a new Window by clicking on a button for instance. The problem is that when the window is opened, the iView cannot be displayed and a Portal Runtime exception is thrown, with the message "Cannot find iView" iView: N\A. This is very strange, since sometimes it works, when i test it on a different browser, but even on the same browser on which it works , sometimes it still fails, and displays "Cannot find iView". Does anybody have any clue what this problem can be? Basically it happens most of the time, but sometimes (randomly?) it works. I guess it may be a problem with caching, but i haven't resolved the reason yet. Thanks very much.

Try playing around with the load settings. Specifically, try turning off client-side caching, your browser might be getting confused depending on the kind of iview you are previewing.
A couple of questions:
1. What kind of iview is it?
2. Does it work if you stick it on a page and preview the page?

Those files are send as application/octet-stream and that makes Firefox display a download dialog.

Script busy when downloading files, or just opening up the downloads window

All of FF locks up until a pop up appears and says that this script chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/download.xml:68 is busy.
There is another suppport entry like this, but it was for the MAC, and I did not see a way to add "Me too" but with a different configurations.

Try to reset the download history and delete downloads.sqlite (plus downloads.rdf, if it exists) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]

PDF opens "save as" window instead of opening (in Firefox)

Hi all,
I am using Captivate 5.5 to publish to .swf.
In my project I have a button set to open a URL or file, with a path to a PDF file.
It used to work fine in all browsers, the PDF would open in Reader or in a tab when the button was clicked.
However I just noticed that when using Mozilla Firefox, clicking the button now opens a "save as" window to save the PDF file, rather than display it. What happened?
Behaviour is fine in Chrome or IE.
Issue occurs whether the PDF is set to open in the actual or a new window, and whether the project is set to continue playing or not.
The project is entirely published and read locally.
I am at a loss. Can anyone give me a tip on how to configure my button to work the same in all browsers?

Never mind, I found the answer.
A matter of setting the Firefox options so that PDF files open in Reader or whatnot rather than prompt to save.

PSD files corrupting without opening them.

I am an experienced Photoshop user. For many years I have been bringing psd files home to work on using various external hard drives. My work computer has PS CS2 and will soon be updated to CS5. My home computer had CS4 updated to CS5 a couple of months ago. I use the external drive at work to hold my psd work files. They open and save normally at work and I have never had a damaged file.
For the past several months when I take my hard drive home and view the photos in Bridge many to them are damaged with what looks like shifted color layers. This is without opening the files-only viewing them in Bridge. The files will open sometimes with a damaged file warning, sometimes not but always with damage. The damage usually only affects one layer.
Sometimes, but not always, I can take the home damaged file back to my work computer and have it open normally with no damage! Has anyone seen this before and knows the cause?

Look for red Error entries. Disk failures, for example, are pretty obvious - they say stuff like "Drive 0 detected a bad block and recovered".
Ideally a system shouldn't accumulate any Error entries, though in practice there will probably be some that are unavoidable.

PSE 12 won't save the tiff file over the original, but brings up save as window

I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image. When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
The fix from the earlier discussion worked fine at first, but now, even though I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)
Has something changed?

How to stop preview opening pictures in same window?

I know that when you open two or more pictures at the same time, preview opens them in the same window.
However, before today, when I double-clicked on one picture, it would open in preview. Then when I opened a second picture, it would open in a new preview window so I could arrange the pictures side-by-side. Now when I open a second picture, it brings it up as another side 'tab' in the window of the first picture.
I discovered that if I right-click on the tab picture, I can select "open in new window" but then if I open a third picture, it closes the picture I had up (the one I removed from the original window) and replaces it with the new picture.

That preference is set clearly: "open each file in its own window", but Preview does not obey this preference.
This behavior started with Mavericks for me.
Very annoying since every time I open a file I have to go to thumbnails view, click right on the new file, and select "open in a new window".
Very annoying and time-wasting.

Links in PDF files will be opened in a new browser window?

I'm opening PDF files in a browser. I'd really like links in PDF files will be opened in a new window as html. My browsers was configured to allow opening new pages in a new window (FireFox: Tools\Options\Tabs\ New pages should be opened in: New window ;IE 7: Tools\Internet Options\Tabs Settings\Open links from another programs in: A new window)
Please tell me any additional step I have to done

In InDesign CS5 when I "save" a document it brings up "save as" window

Since switching over to my new version of CS5 whenever I click 'save' in the 'file' menu, it brings up 'save as' window and wants to save it in the place I last saved something. Really annoying as I keep getting files ending up saved all over the place. Normally you click 'save' and it just overwrites the original version, dangerous sometimes but much easier.
Is there any way I can stop it doing this?

It's annoying, but it makes some logical sense. A converted file is considered to be "new", so it is treated the same way as if you created a new file, whcih would not have had a previous location, and the program needs to default to someplace, so it picks the last folder used for that operation.
Just becasue it's logical, though, doesn't mean it has to be that way (seems to me that prior to CS4 it wasn't, in fact). I think this would make a good user preference, so if you care, hit the wishform again. Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
