No Final Cut Education Pricing?

Is there no higher education price for Final Cut Pro?

Considering that Final Cut Pro used to cost $900-$1200 US, the current FCPX $299 is a pretty good discount.

  • Final Cut Studio Educational version serial number

I've been using an educational version of Final Cut Studio for years, and now it is asking me for my name and serial number before I open the program.  I've looked at the box that the discs come in, and have found some numbers, but they don't seem to be the serial numbers and they don't work.  Is there somewhere else that these serial numbers may be?  Also, is there a reason why I am forced to put in my information to log in now?
    thanks!

There are two stickers with the serial # attached to the "Installing your software" pamphlet that came with the suite. This is the only place that you will find it.
If you have lost the documentaion, follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1861
    >Also, is there a reason why I am forced to put in my information to log in now?
Have you recently had the computer repaired? The encrypted serial is tied to the Logic board ID. You will need to delete that file if so.

  • Final Cut unable to open

    So I've got a problem.
I had to restore my system to its factory settings, and I got Final Cut Pro 5 a few years back when I was in High School from my video teacher, under one of those education packages that works for like 15 or whatever different computers to install FCP. So it's a very legal copy.
When I had to restore, I knew I couldn't reinstall the program, so I had to move FCP to my External Hard drive. I had been running it off my external anyways for a while and it worked fine, just because I needed the space on my internal for applications I had to run without the external. But after I restored and installed Snow Leopard, I can't open FCP. I had back'd up my computer with Time Machine before the restore, so I put the Application Support files from the backup back into my Library>Application Support folder. But it doesn't open, but this time it gives me the error code and what not. So if this helps anybody, here you go.

I took a look at it and couldn't really find what was going on, so any help is appreciated.

The Final Cut software that I had installed was also the same software that we were running on our Macs at the high school. 3 of those Macs were iMacs with Intel processors. I didn't think I had been running FCP that functioned on the PPC Operating systems, because it's the same software that was working on the iMacs, but now that I think of it, we had PPCs running it too. I hadn't had any issues with it other than the occasional random crash that was solved by a program restart. If it was PPC based, wouldn't it -not- let me install it on the computer? Like I said before, I had been running it on my laptop with ease for a couple years with no large problems.
I had an issues like this when I tried to boot up my Adobe Photoshop from Hard Drive after I restored, and it was solved by taking my application Support folder and some other random files from my backup and putting them in my library. I assume that the movement of files is the problem and I'm just missing some minor things, but it says I'm running a PPC version of the software?

  • Is it unlawful to sell my used final cut studio version 3 software?

I had listed my software at eBay after deauthorizing it from my Mac Pro. Was I under a contract with Apple that prevented me from reselling the software?(I'm afraid I don't have time to read pages of fine print.) Here's the message I just received from eBay after the closed my auction:

    eBay heavily "overprotects" copyright owners.
The BSA is hired by Apple to look out for copyright violations. They simply go after everything without any investigation. eBay plays along and so you are the one with the problem to do something completely lega.
Here is the relevant section of FCS's SLA:
    3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone applications.
This means that you are allowed to sell the package if you are the original owner of the software.

  • How much can i get Final Cut Studio 2?

    Hi,
*in fact, i love this program so so much and i will get it to make tutorials in my blog or website as well but i can't buy it because it is so expensive for me and i'm student too,now i have some questions:-*
*1-is there discount for this program?.*
*2-can i get motion 3 only and buy final cut Express to make my tutorials?.*
*3-i don't need sound track and dvd studio so can i get custom dvd for Final Cut Studio 2 with low price?.*
*Thank you very much and keep going Apple i love you.*
    *Best regards,*
    *Khaled Samir.*

    1. There are academic discounts directly from Apple - though I do not know how it will work outside of the US. Google Apple Education and go to the education portion of the apple website.
2&3. You can not purchase any of the applications independently from the whole Studio package or get a reduced price because you will not use one or two of them.
Final Cut Express has a great deal of the functionality of Final Cut Pro but it will work only with DV and HDV video. It does not work with non-standard image sizes/codecs.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Vs 3

I wanted to look at getting something more then iMovie and saw the Final Cut Studio 2 is for sale this week for $50 while Final Cut Studio 3 is still $300 at my campus bookstore (education licenses). Is there a $250 difference between the two versions that someone that will just be using it for a few home move projects will be able to detect?
    Message was edited by: firemandan900

Also why does Apple charge so much more directly for the Academic version ($900 3 times as much) as my school can sell it to me direct, including the 10 lbs of instruction manuals? Is it just a volume agreement my school has?

  • Upgrade to final cut pro x from final cut express; full price ?

Is there i way of upgrading Final Cut Express 4 to the new Final Cut Pro X ?
Or, one has simply to buy the FCPro X for full price ?

There is no upgrade pricing for FCP X.  Everyone pays the same price.

  • Final Cut Express vs. Final Cut Pro

I assume a topic like this has already been discussed, but I would like to know what to do in my scenario.
I'm currently a high school junior, and I'm taking a media course in school where I have learned to use Final Cut Pro. Next year, I'll be taking it again, still using Final Cut Pro, and I may want to do some editing work at home, though it is not required.
The problem there is Final Cut Pro is very expensive, probably isn't sold without everything else in Studio box set, and I only have a 1.42 GHz SuperDrive eMac, with 1 GB RAM.
I've seen Final Cut Express, and I feel it might be the best thing to get at a reasonable price. I want to start making video projects outside of school, but iMovie does not allow me to do much. Plus, I won't be using HD, so there's no issue of it there. Could someone tell me what are the pros and cons in using FCP over FCE, and what will I not be able to do in FCE?

I think there's a lot of info on this subject on the FCE page on the Apple website.
This page: http://www.apple.com/finalcut/index.html should do the trick for you.
Bottom line is if you're going to be working in DV or HDV FCE should be more than enough for your needs, at least till you're making enough $$$ to upgrade. I know if FCE had been available when I left school I would have had the best tools around.
Have you looked into the Educational edition of FCS, if you can't bear the downgrade? Might be what you need.
Best of luck in your career.

  • Final Cut Pro X and Mac Caption Site Licenses

How much does it cost for a site license for Final Cut Pro X and Mac Caption?  I need to have one computer going for production and one for training someone.  Is there 501C-3 pricing available?

FCP X can be used on as many Macs as you own.  Be sure each is logged in to your iTunes/App Store account.  So for two Macs that you own, you can download to both, only pay for one.
There is a bulk license deal for it, but you'd need to be running 10+ Macs before you'd get any discount or anything.
Mac Caption is an issue you'll have to take up with them.

  • Pro platforms & software? Mac or PC? Final Cut, Avid, Premiere, etc.?

I've a 14-year-old niece who, with iMovie, Garageband and iDVD has, in the past year overtaken her Dad's digital video camera and has produced two films (that she's finished - she has others in the works) that would be remarkable for a 40-year-old and are almost unimaginably good for a 14 (soon to be 15) year old.
Her parents and I are considering getting her the Final Cut Studio package with a Mac and enough storage space so that she can get a head start on doing what she wants to do with her life - make movies. She was able to use an older copy of Final Cut Express on a friend's father's Mac and fell in love with it - she actually understands all this stuff after just playing around with it.
Another friend's father, however, is a educated amateur and he uses Adobe products - Premier, primarily, I believe, and my niece keeps us with what's going on in Hollywood and has heard good things about products from a company called Avid and although I think that she would rather stay on a Mac platform, for certain, and she's quick to let her parents know what Hollywood films were edited, etc., on Macs ("Brokeback Mountain"? Is that true) and I think that she'd be delighted with a wicked fast Mac and the Final Cut Pro Studio package, we would like to get her a system with which she can - hopefully - be ahead of the game when it's time for her to go off to film school (if she hasn't had a major studio pick up an indie film of hers by the time she's 18!).
I know that there are companies like Sweetwater who put together and/or recommend system packages but I'm also wondering if there are video specialists that do the same? I'm also wondering if the Final Cut Studio package is actually robust enough to mix and edit a finessed final product (was "Brokeback Mountain" really edited on a Mac?) or if the Adobe products on a PC platform are more of an accepted professional 'norm'?
She already knows the camera that she wants (she shoots everything with a single camera) and the microphones, etc., that she wants for enhancing sound... BUT, although I truly believe se wants to stay on a Mac and use her iMovie, GarageBand, and iDVD skills in a more professional environment, she is being swayed a bit by her friend's evil PC-loving father.
    So I need some help.
    1. Is there a video resource similar too what Sweetwater is to audio?
    2. Is the Mac or PC more prevalent amongst pros (or indie/beginning pros, at least)?
    3. Are the Apple products superior to the Adobe and Avid products or - if they are fairly equal - is the Studio package integrated as the iLife products?
And last, I suppose, is the fact that we're thinking that Apple will be introducing the 'wicked fast' Intel desktops before Christmas so that will likely be our last purchase after we've perused the 'packaged' products (which I just assume MUST be out there!) and so while I'm glad that Apple has upgraded the Studio package to Universal binary, the choice of machines is made even more difficult by the fact that what we likely want to get or her hasn't been introduced yet.
Any answers to the three questions - or any other suggestions - will be much appreciated. It's a long time before Christmas but this is going to be an expensive venture that could well determine just how well my beloved niece will be able to fulfill her dreams.
Life was so much simpler when girls her age just wanted ponies..

i've been perusing Promax and have definitely settled on FCP as the software o choice and, s the camera is a 'done deal' (she knows hat she wants there!) it will ultimately come down to, I think, the CPU 'box' itself. I always think of computers as having a three-year 'window', after which time something new and exciting is blazing trails and (usually) costs have dropped (not as significantly as in the 1980's-1990's, but in terms of real dollars todays G5 Quad is a sizzling bargain compared with what I paid for my MDD Wind Tunnel G4 in 2002.
So although I would expect some of the equipment (and software - with upgrades) to remain useable for 3 years (at which time my niece will be a freshman in college) my thought at the moment is to wait until, say, October, too see if Apple is going to have blazing fast Intel machines ("MacPro" is my current guess for the name of the Intel desktops!) to go along with the Universal FCP apps. My guess is an August announcement with late September, early October shipping.
I my prognostication is wrong, however, she'll be able to 'make do' just fine with PM G5, I think. When I know a bit more about what I'm talking about (I've ordered a couple of books from Amazon to at least learn some lingo... i watched the MacBreak 1080p and compression podcasts and understood about half - when it comes to setting up a home theater, I know what to do, what i need, what to wait for, etc. But the 'broadcasting' bit is over my head (and although she may wind up in TV and need to know all that stuff, it's movies she's aiming for - yet she's realistic and says that even if she finally gets to direct a local used car commercial in her career she wants to make sure that it's the best ever!
All of this info has been tremendous - and kind of given me the impetus to begin a project started long ago (first on 8mm then 16mm... and ending just this year with miniDV!). I have a lot of iMovie footage and have burn some iDVDs but I just don't have the creative juices of my niece!

  • Upgrading to Final Cut Pro...

Please don't laugh at my question...
If you go from iMovie/iDVD to Final Cut Pro is it considered to be an upgrade?
I am wanting to get Final Cut Pro but wanted to know if I was eligible for the upgrade price or would have to pay the full price.
    Thanks for your help!

Are you going to use FCS professionally? If you're not using it professionally, just go with FC Express.
I doubt you're going to find a (safe) loophole to cut your spending considerably. You might have some luck with used apps/eBay, but its a risky process. You could get a stolen, registered, or simply broken copy. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
There is the educational option, but then you're forbidden from using the apps commercially and you can't upgrade in the future.
I would give a whole speech on how you should pay for the software like the rest of us, but I won my copy at a film festival and I am a tight wad. So I wish you luck.

  • Final Cut, Fields, Interlacing

Imac 20p, Final Cut PRO HD 5.1, canon MVX460 PAL
Ok this is the problem: The footage is interlaced, I capture it with interlaced option in DV codec and in FC options field dominance lower. I edit the sequence with same setting, FC displays the preview perfectly deinterlaced.
I used to export through --->quick time movie and to DV PAL Field dominance NONE, PROGRESSIVE or XVID without field dominance. The output was perfectly progressive.
Yesterday I used for the first time (as a test) USE QT conversion... applied the deinterlace option under SIZE... the output was perfectly progressive
    BUT:
Now when I export with normal QT movie option with same setting the output is still interlaced... Strange isn't it?
    Any clues?
can someone tell me how to output through FC export (Export -->QT movie) in progressive without appling the deinterlace filter? (I need it cause most of my production is web and computer vision oriented)...
    Thank you very very much!

can someone tell me how to output through FC export (Export -->QT movie) in progressive without appling the deinterlace filter?
Sorry, you recorded the footage at 60 fields/second and that's the way it's going to stay. The only way to faux-progressify it is to apply a filter that makes educated guesses as to what the footage would have looked like had you recorded it progressively.
If you are exporting full-quality QuickTime reference movies on which to perform conversions later, can you let your compression software do the "de-interlacing"?
