No Finder after update

Hi
This morning I updated my wife's PowerBook G4 (powerpc) to Leopard. Because the Powerbook's superdrive is on the blink, I installed Leopard by starting it in Target Mode and installing via Firewire from my powerpc G4 imac. All went smoothly. All seemed fine. All worked. I then went to 'software updates' to bring it up to speed, and updated everything on offer. Then, after startup, I have no finder on the PowerBook - I log in, but no top menu line comes up on the desktop (though the airport, clock etc. can be seen in the top right). The Dock's as it should be, but clicking on Finder results in nothing. When I open System Preferences, of course, I get a top menu bar as usual.
Things I have done to try to fix this:
1.) Ran a disk repair with the PowerBook in target mode - no problems found (the hard disk is brand new, by the way - it was replaced last month)
2.) Tried Starting in Safe mode - same thing; no Finder
3.) Tried to use the Guest account, but can't get past 'click lock to make changes' in System Preferences (I know the password, but clicking the lock does nothing)
4.) Tried Software update again - offered a Security Update, Safari, Graphics update, Time Machine and Airport update - nothing that would seem to help - and anyway, clicking on 'Install items' has no effect.
5.) Tried to access terminal using spotlight (as I can't through Finder) to delete com.apple.finder.plist, but spotlight seems stuck on permanent indexing. Tried unchecking everything in Spotlight preferences, but no dice.
6.) Started in single user mode and ran fsck twice, but rebooted back to the same no Finder environment.
7.) Though to delete com.apple.finder.plist in single user mode, but the file did not exist in Library/Preferences to delete (is this a clue?)
8.) Tried shouting at PowerBook. It stared back at me, hurt.
Given as all was fine after the upgrade to Leopard, but stalled after the software update (I didn't make a list of what was being updated, but it of course included 10.5.2) I guess the problem arose then. As I say, the hard disk is brand new, so I can't see it being a hardware problem there. However, I have just realised (in fact, just as I was typing this up) that the Powerbook does not have the minimum memory specification (it has only 256 built in - just checked). I can remedy this quickly, but is this what has caused the error (or not helping)?
Any thoughts gratefully received. Before the wife gets home, if possible.

Just to let you know I managed to sort it finally. It occurred to me to try first to re-install the 10.5.2 combo update, as that seemed to be the only possible culprit. I tried on the PowerBook, but the installer got as far as selecting location for the install, but couldn't get past a greyed-out HD, so I fired up the PB in target mode, and re-installed the update from my imac. Bingo. All was well, and in time for my wife's return from yoga. A bit of maintenance, and I'l go add the new memory to bring it up to speed, and that will be that.

Noob Warning - Shared Computers No Longer Appear in Finder after Update

I recently (last Saturday) purchased a new MBP. I do a lot of photography and Photoshop work, and it was time to make the jump (especially with CS5 due out by the end of the month).
Prior to the 10.6.3 update, the other computers in my home workgroup all appeared under the Shared section of Finder. Now, after the 10.6.3 update, they're gone. The other computers are a laptop running Win7 Ultimate, another running Vista Ultimate, and a third running WinXP Pro. I sometimes need access to these in order to work on images or Word/Excel files.
Would appreciate any guidance as to how to get these computers back and appearing under Shared.

Ouch!... I'm seeing the same thing. Playlists that were seen prior to yesterdays update are no longer seen. Don't see any options to disable them so hopefully this will get fixed.

PS CC 2014 not showing up in Mac Finder after update

Just did the update/install of PS CC 2014, and while I can see the application in my applications folder if I do a spotlight search, it does not show up in Mac Finder when I go to my applications folder. Actually this is the case for several CC 2014 apps after the update. For example, Muse CC 2014 and InDesign CC 2014 show up in my applications folder, but not Illustrator CC 2014 or PS CC 2014. Anybody else experience this and/or have a resolution? I did a restart after the cc 2014 app updates to see if that would fix anything, but it didn't.
It's annoying to have to do a spotlight search to reinstall all my plug-ins and to just launch the app.

Craig, thanks for the reply, but it's not a matter of updating the dock icons after the update. I realize I need to drag the new CC 2014 apps to the dock if I want to access them there. It's more of an issue where all the CC 2014 app updates except Muse and InDesign weren't showing up in my HD > Applications folder where every other app on my machine resides. Instead, most of the CC 2014 updates got installed to my User > Applications folder for some bizarre reason. Those updates are the ONLY apps in that folder.
Anyone know why they would get installed there instead of the normal HD > Applications folder?

IMac freezes in finder after update

hi there.
MY iMac (24") keeps beach balling in the finder ( 5 mins after restarts) this has only happened since the latest update.
I Have so far reset vram done the smc (I think it's called that) reboot with the power plug. done repairs and permissions a verity of ways. Booted into safe mode etc. all with the same issue.
ONe thing that is defiantly happening is the hard drive is stopping just as it freezes does that click sound then silence.
ANybody have have anymore ideas or possible causes? ( other than the update which is the culprit)
i really really do not want to re-install again!

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

Icons in Finder after update, DVD format, .sit extensions?

Hi,
I am a new Mac user and have just purchased a new PowerBook. Had a couple of questions....
How do I format my DVD+RW media in Mac? I would like to rewrite the DVD.
Secondly, I got a prompt that there were new updates available for my Mac, so I downloaded them, after which the documents and other icons dissappeared from the finder window sidebar. Where did these go? I had installed MSN messenger for Mac and LimeWire, had to re-install them. Can some one please explain!
I also downloaded some softwares for my Mac with the .sit extension, but somehow I can't install these softwares, can someone guide me how to install it.

Can not open download folder in Finder after update to OS X Lion

Hi there. I have recently upgraded to OS X Lion. The upgrade was smooth. But since the upgrade I am unable to open Download folder in Finder. If I select Download in Finder's sidebar nothing happens. Finder won't display content of Download folder. If I go and select Home folder in sidebar, Finder displays content of my Home folder including Download. If I double click Download folder to access it nothing happens again. Cant access it. But if expand download folder using triangle next to it, Finder will expand me Download folder and show it's content...
I tried to verify and repair my permissions with Disk Utility, but did not solve my issuel. It is very frustrating scenario, since Download folder is something I access every day multiple times.
Any ides what can I do?

I found a solution that worked for me. Seems like my firewall did not accept the afp connection permissions anymore after installing lion... Since everything worked well turning off the firewall.
So if you don't want to keep your firewall disactivated here is what worked for me:
- Leave your firewall activated.
- Turn OFF afp file sharing in the sistem prefs
- Restart your Machine
- Turn ON afp file sharing
- You should now get a message if you want to accept afp connections...
- click YES
Seems like this resets somehow the afp permissions in the firewall settings
Everything fine on my network now.

Files won't display in finder after updating to Mavericks

Have upgraded to Mavericks. Went to finder found the folder I use daily opened it and there are no sub folders or files displaying. I have done a search, they are still on my mac. Obviously I don't remember all my file names so how do I display sub folders and files in finder now? Some advice/help would be appreciated.

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I am having issues!
Menu bar wont show anymore on desktop, I am not using anything, no application. Just turn on the mac and there you go, I have no Menu bar. It just shows for 3 seconds then goes away forever!
My files and folders same issue, they dissapears after 3 seconds!
At the log in window where you type your password to turn the computer, it will not let me type in, i have to click I dont know how many million times then it would let me!
I installed a game and the game window won't saty, it would kick me to desktop window after 3-4 seconds that i am in the game!
and also Finder wont work!
SO, LOTS OF ISSUES!
My question is, is there a way to fix these things, if not how do I go back to previous OS without losing anything on my mac?

After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session. 
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page. 
Another possibility is to use:

Try:
- Reset the dock
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

HT201210 cant restore my ipad from itunes after updating latest ios. message tells me to turn off 'find my ipad' from my ipad, but I can't because the set up is not complete without the restore. What do I do?

I don't know if I'm repeating my question. I can't restore my ipad after updating to latest ios. The battery went low, I had to eject and plug in to charge. The set up will not complete without resoring from icloud or itunes (i backed up to computer using itunes) or setting up the ipad as a New ipad. I want to restore all my stuff but the message I get in itune says "Find my ipad must be turned off before 'ipad' can be restored". Go to icloud settings on your ipad and turn off Find My iPad before restoring your iPad.". I cant' get to this setting on my ipad because the set up is not complete!!! I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid if I set up the ipad as new it will backup the new ipad over my previous backup and then I will loose all my photos, songs, aps, notes,......

I have the same problem and we can't simply just restore from the backup. It says that I have to set up my iPad through restoring. So I tried restoring it in iTunes but it won't restore until I have to turn off this **** "Find My iPad" crap but I couldn't because the set up's not complete and it won't let me go to my settings unless I set it up. So basically it's asking me to go to my settings but before I could go to it I have to restore, and in order to restore I have to go to settings. Get where I'm at?

If you backed up the device, all the data is in the backup. Restore the backup.
A better question is why would an intelligent person not copy the pictures from the device to the computer regularly, especially before attempting an update, as the device is designed to be used?

I lost music after updating to iOS 7, iTunes can't find what can I do?

After updating my iPhone to ios7 I lost a lot of music in my phone and iTunes iTunes was updated too and music is still listed there but can not find.

I have the same problem which started after I upgraded to iOS 7. It works particularly bad on the iPhone 4. It is in "Loading iTunes Match" mode most of the time with no or very slow progress, and when it finally ends, the uploaded Playlists are never there, not one. "Loading iTunes Match" would restart again after leaving and restarting music, say 50% of the time. Not sure what really is being loaded and can't understand why it has to be reloaded so often.
I had a problem ticket with Apple Support, but the specialist asked for a series of screenshots documenting the start time of "Loading iTunes Match" and the eventual completion time. I told him to forget it because I had already spent too much time turning this and that on and off for so many times in so many days trying to listen to my own uploaded music and I did not want to fiddle around anymore. I have decided not to renew my iTunes Match service in November, and have since turned off iTunes Match on all my devices and gone back to syncing to keep things simple.
I also have Amazon Cloud Player which is working just fine for the purpose of having some kind of cloud access of my music. I will be renewing this $24 service this month for another year instead of iTunes Match.
Apple was supposed to be very good at software development, and for them not resolving a problem in a paid service since the rollout of iOS 7 is just disappointing.

After update iMovie and OS Yosemite recovery, iPhoto icon disappeared. How can I find photos stored on iPhoto?

Go to Finder>Applications and open the iPhotos app.
Apple want you to use the new Photos app which now should be in your Dock. Photos will import your iPhoto library
