No Finder, No DivXNetworks.prev

I wanted to start a new post, as there are 120 replies to the other post, mainly thanking. Which means I can't find a soloution for the Missing Finder/Missing Dock.
I do not have the DivXNetworks.prev file. Spotlight confirmed that for me. And it was nothing to do with indexing. This is a really stupid bug and I cannot see how it has not been fixed yet.

im having the same problem.. and i cant acess my accout to create a new account ether.

  • How to open the Finder ?

Just installed Leopard on a 1.5 GHz Powerbook G4 with a 2 Gb memory, and the *Finder does not open*.
Neither can I open the Documents stack, or the blue boxes it contains ! I only get a message +"The Finder application cannot be launched -1712"+
However, my *data files* are *not lost* and can be accessed through the other applications.
Any idea how to solve this problem ?

    OK, let's go straight to the answers by EricShapiro and Defrog. I edited them into the following procedure that worked on my computer. Before you start, get your computer login password ready to be typed;
    1. Copy the following instruction (make sure you copied it entirely):
    sudo mv "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks" "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks.prev"
    2. Click on Spotlight (at the extreme top right of the screen : look for a magnifying lens)
    3. Type the first letters of « terminal » until Spotlight finds the Terminal Application. Click on Terminal.app icon to open the application.
    4. At the prompt, paste the instruction copied at step 1. Then press Return.
    5. Type your computer login password. Press Return again.
    6. Restart. You might have to hold the Power button down …to shut down and then restart.
It should work by now !

  • Big finder freez- Again!

    Hello All,
I made a post of my previous problem here
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5728324#5728324
The same problem has happened again after 4 days of hitch free usage of the imac. I haven't changed anything in the finder before this happened.
I started the imac up in target disk mode again, and done a disk verification, which it passed, but both permission options are greyed out. The same problem happened before so I'm starting to think that its a permission problem.
Sorry if its a bit vague but must dash off to work

Stumbled upon this thread which fixed my problem instantly!! Ohhhh I'm so happy
There was a solution described in another post which consisted in renaming the folder /Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks (on your boot drive) to /Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks.prev. I had the exact problem you described and doing the above fixed it for me instantaneously. It may also help to get Leopard Cache Cleaner and deep clean all caches. Hope this helps.
Thanks to Ivan for the solution

  • How to reverse migrate to Tiger (till fleas out of Leopard)??

I have beta tested software before. I switched to mac 1999 because wanted my os to just work. Till Leopard does what best way to migrate backwards? I need my computer to work.

Note** An additional problem occurring with my installation of Leopard was this "No Finder" issue.
(Topic/Problem origionally posted by Michael Jasper.)
"My finder does not work. I have to open an application (i.e. Safari) just to be able to click on the apple in the upper left corner. When I open Force Quit Applications I see that my finder is not responding."
(Solution to above problem by EricShapiros.)
"The first step is to get Terminal.app to run. I was lucky that it was in my dock already. If not, you can probably ssh in from another Mac. You should be able to turn on remote login in System Preferences even without a Finder, I think.
    Then type:
    sudo mv "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks" "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks.prev"
Then click on the Finder in the dock and relaunch it. Or just reboot.
An alternate method would be to boot the Mac in target disk mode (hold down the "T" during boot) and plug it into another Mac via Firewire. Then just rename or remove the DivXNetworks folder.
Or boot from the 10.5 DVD and run Terminal.app from the menu. I guess that might be the easiest method since it doesn't require a second Mac, but you'll have to look in /Volumes for your boot volume name.
    Good luck. "
This resolved ALL problems occurring with my Leopard install.

  • Login Items not launching

I have a strange problem where if I reboot my Mac, any menu bar icons I have launching on startup load. This involves iStat as well as the battery meter. The only icons I get are Airport and Spotlight.
I have checked for the Divxnetwork.prev file as listed at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307000 but I don't have that file.
Any items under Login Items in Accounts do launch, but anything menu bar related doesn't. I've trashed various preference plists such as com.apple.Menuxxx as well as login item plists but still this problem remains.
    Any ideas?

Open SysPrefs > General and unselect the option to "restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." Then, when you log out make sure and unselect the option to "reopen windows when logging back in." You can quickly do this latter by tapping the space bar.

  • Powerbook can't start after itunes/quicktime update

Leopoard was running fine up till now. I just ran the software update for itunes and quicktime, and now my powerbook g4 is stuck in an endless loop of trying to boot--I get to the apple logo and spinning gears but after a bit it just shuts down and starts over.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

For those of you with this problem . . . here is another solution that worked for me.
Go here and with a very simple change you can get up an running in Leopard again! Follow the instructions in the 7th post down . . . don't worry . . . you don't really have to do any terminal work. From that post . . . " Apparently there is a conflict with a folder called DivXNetworks in the Library/Application Support folder. If you change the name of this folder to DivXNetworks.prev it may solve the problem. It did in my case. I must say that I do not know what affect the change to that folder will create - but so far I have not noticed any issues"

  • Unable to create Context3D on Android 5.0 when using latest Air 15 SDK

I have updated my Nexus 5 to the latest developer preview of Lollipop, and I can no longer run our game.
The same code worked find in the prev. developer version of Android L.
The code I can't get to work is:
    stage.stage3Ds[0].addEventListener(Event.CONTEXT3D_CREATE, function(e:Event):void { trace("worked"); });
    stage.stage3Ds[0].addEventListener(ErrorEvent.ERROR, function (e:Event):void { trace("failed" + e); });
    stage.stage3Ds[0].requestContext3D();
It just fails with the error
    [trace] failed[ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #3702: Context3D not available." errorID=3702]
I have already create a bug report (Bug#3841130 - Stage3D fails to create context on Nexus 5 running Android 5.0), but would like to know if it's happening to anybody else, or it's just my device that's messed up (I only have access to one Android L device).

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing the project, i have verified it on Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 as well but unable to see any performance drop. FPS remains between 25-24 with both AIR 14 and AIR 15.
Probability you are using earlier version on Android L, Could you please cross check and download the latest version from http://developer.android.com/preview/index.html.
Also, it will be great if you could try on some other device and share your observations.
    Warm Regards,
    Jitender

  • PowerMac Dual 1.25- hangs, doesn't respond, after installing Leopard

Installed Leopard and computer continually hangs ..stops responding. Try re-installing leopard (3 times) with no change in results.
Also tried teh Dsicussion Forum's suggestion to change of DiVX Networks folder... "sudo mv "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks" "/Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks.prev" ..It doesn't exist in my computer.
Ran disk utility's "repair permissions" and got following message - "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Remote Managemetn/ARDAgent...."
No other indications as to why or when will the computer hangs..not respond.
Apple's help on what seems a pretty large number of Leopard hang and non-respond issues would be greatly appreciated.
    J

Wanted to add the following to my post....
By hang or computer not responding, I mean the beach ball shows up and nothing happens.
    - Force quit doesn't do anything. Application or document remains open....Most times Force Quit doesn't recognize app or application as "not responding."
    - Doesn't eject disk 50% of the time.
    - Can hang or not respond at any time or any conditions...no pattern as to number of application are open. It stop responding with one or five apps or documents opened
    - Apple feedback is not working ...won't forward or send problems ...it hangs
    - Tried loading software with no other hardware attached - made no difference.
    - 75% of computer shutdowns result in computer in computer not responding and having to do a "hard shutdown."

  • No Finder and renaming the "DivXNetworks" folder does not work.  What now??

I just upgraded to 10.5 on my MacBook and I am having the same finder issues discussed in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1197076&tstart=15
But when I try the suggested solution, I am being told that I do not have the DivXNetworks folder.
Does anyone have another solution to get finder to work?
    Thanks in advance.
    Eric
P.S. - I am a relative novice at this so a Mac for Dummies solution would be best

The Keyboard Viewer may help you determine what key-faces also may double as something else, as you can choose to shift their purpose through use of the fn key. In the keyboard & mouse system preference panel you can choose to view this in the top of the main finder desktop menu bar. With options. You also may choose to assign a key to a different function or symbol.
However I see my MacBook has a key which sports both + and = on the same keyface.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • No Finder (and no DivXNetworks folder neither)

    Hi:
I've installed Leopard and after reboot the second time after install I don't have finder. I don't have the DivXNetworks folder as others report on another thread so I can't remove it to solve the flasshing crashed Finder. Also, I've removed all files from /Library/PreferencePane and also did not work. I also removed files that are not Apple related from "/Library/Application Support" and I still haven't solved it.
What Eric (the guy that found the DivXNetwork problem) could say here in the forum, is how did he tracked the log or debugged his problem, for people like me and other could also check why the Finder crash before opening.
Anyone here from Apple ? This s*cks... This already seems like Microsoft and the BSOD.
    Best Regards
    Joao Oliveira

  • Recently I changed my apple id but forgot to change my icloud account. I also have Find My IPhone activated. I tried to delete my ICloud account but first I need to switch off my Find My iPhone, to complicate this I can no longer access prev email account

Recently I changed my apple id but forgot to change my iCloud account.
I also have Find My Iphone activated. My old apple id was an old work email address no longer in use nor can be accessed.
I need to be able to turn off Find My Iphone in order to then delete my iCloud account, I need to include my apple id password to turn off Find my Iphone.
Is there a way around this?
    Thanks in advance.

helpmeIphone5s wrote:I also have Find My Iphone activated. My old apple id was an old work email address no longer in use nor can be accessed. Thanks in advance.
Please go to website address: www.idapple.com Go to the blue tab that reads Manage apple id. From there you will have the option to change personal information of your apple id. The fact that the email address you used to create the apple id is no longer accessible as far as an email address goes will not disable you from changing information as part of the apple id account. However to disable the find my device you will need to be able to access this apple id login. Once you are able to access the old apple id account this then will allow you to access the icloud services by going to www.icloud.com from there you will login with your old apple id once logged into icloud.com and you have chosen the correct device you then can erase all contents of the device which then will disable the find my device.
This is one way of doing it. The other way of course would be for you to login to your icloud on your phone using the old Apple id and from there provided you are able to login with password you then can simply disable the find my device inside the icloud account.
    Good luck Friend.

  • Lightbox Gallry, works locally, but cannot find prev/next/close button remotely.

Hi all, I've downloaded the latest Lightbox Gallery from Dreamweaver exchange and was able to make some changes on my own, but still far from being an expert at scripting...HELP!
Everything worked fine locally, but when I uploaded it to my web host/s FTP, the prev, next and close buttons did not show up.
In firebox, they just don't show.  In Safari, it shows "?" where the close button should show.
I checked the FTP and the images are all there.
Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    My website address is:
    julieappelt.com
    Thanx

It appears you didn't upload a whole folder.  The "lightbox" folder inside the "images" folder does not seem to be there.  Try uploading the files again.

  • ORA-03113 using svrmgrl. Could not find same prob in prev postings

    Hi.
I have set up one Redhat 7.0 box with Oracle
before applying the Redhat updates and
it worked fine using the glibc-2.1
    workaround.
Now I have set up a Redhat 7.0 box with all
the patches till the 01.02.01 and no
    glibc-2.1 workaround.
The installation was ok. I did not create
    the database.
Now, if I want to use the svrmgrl, it sais
    "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel"
and comes back with the promt. If I try the
"connect internal" then the CPU usage is at
100% and I have to kill the process !!
The tnslsnr works just fine. Well it does
    not give me a dump.....
    Would appreciate any help,
    thanx
    Stefan

    Hi again.
Forgot to say, that it is the 8.1.6 version
    of Oracle.
Version of glibc after updating = glibc-2.2-12
I had to update because of the java install
tool error, which just prints a text dump and
then exits. (described in earlier posting)
The workaround with glibc-2.1 did not work
either. There were heaps of linking errors.
Found a posting with ORA-3114 which may be
    related ??!?!
    later
