No FiOS in New Neighborhood

Hello,
I live in Waldorf, Maryland and I currently have FIOS (25up/25down and thinking to upgrade in the new home) internet and my family and I LOVE IT!!!
The house is hardwired and wirelessly configured for internet by a cheerful and professional Verizon-contracted installer.
We stream video via internet, Netflix-enabled TVs, Roku, video-on demand and DVR services TV service, download, upload, game online with XBOX360 and Playstation3, work from home, Skype, etc. all simultaneously with no lag! We have never been happier with an ISP (internet service provider).
However...as our family has grown we are now waiting to move to a newly built neighborhood about 15minutes (or less) from Washington DC. I went to the Verizon website to setup moving my service and the address was not available in the system, it is a new home so I thought maybe it is not registered in whatever database yet.  So I contacted Verizon about moving our service to the new house and the representative stated that NO high speed internet service is available AT ALL for our home, no FIOS, not even DSL.
A brand new housing development and no high speed internet? Maybe if we were in the middle of nowhere I could understand, but we are 15 minutes away from Washington DC.  So I ask the representative when internet would be available, to summarize the answer was essentially "I don't know, probably not anytime soon."
Either this was an oversight on the part of the builder or Verizon, but I would think ignoring a brand new neighborhood full of existing and potentially new customers is an extremely bad business practice.
I have spoken with some of the neighbors and we would love to have Verizon FIOS, but alas we are relegated to living like technological hermits off the grid. I am not looking forward to moving without my FIOS.
I would like to officially request that FIOS be installed in the neighborhood, or at least receive a projection of when it will be available so the neighborhood familes can have a light at the end of the tunnel to aspire to.  The Preserve at Braemar Accokeek, MD 20607
Thank you,
Deparately seeking high speed internet

I completely understand yoru situation.  We've lived for over  three years without highspeed connection and can literally throw a rock to houses that have it with another carrier.  But the line litearlly runs down the other side of the road, leaving us out.  I[m so frustrated and can't get an answer from a real person that actually knows something.  Good Luck!

  • FiOS 1 News

New York City is the most populous city in the United States with over 8.3 million people.
Why don't we have Fios 1 News for NYC?
Why do I want to watch Long Island news, which does not pertain to me?
Cablevision has a different News 12 channel for each region.
Now with the rollout of the FiOS mobile app, the only news thats available is for Long Island.
    It just doesn't make sense

I agree with bklyn35. I live in Queens Village & I am literally 3 minutes from Elmont, Long Island and I don't have Fios 1 at all. With the constant increase in fees we should at least be able to have local TV. As for NY1.com I believe you have to be a cable customer to access it.

  • Verizon Fios in my neighborhood.

I would like to know why some neighborhoods have fios and some don't. I live in Jamaica, queens and I would love to have fios but its not available in my area and I would like to know how long is it going to take for the service to be available.  I have direct tv and its annoying it rains just a little and the signal goes out.  So please verizon hurry and put verizon fios in my neighborhood.

We run FIOS to certain neighborhoods. Once its in a neighborhood, it requires a drop terminal. A drop terminal services only 8 customers. For each household to be hooked up to FIOS there has to be an available port. You can submit a suggestion for expansion areas to http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-Idea-Exchange/ct-p/ideaexchange . The Verizon Idea Exchange is there for you to submit your ideas and suggestions to Verizon so that we can consider them as we innovate our products and services. • How to set up Verizon Fios on new computer

how do I set up verizon fios internet on my new computer.  I have the antena from the old computer. I do not see a wireless router like I used to have

It's not clear to me exactly what your problem is but it sounds like your new computer just doesn't have a WiFi network card.  Is it a desktop or laptop PC?   If a desktop, that's likely the issue...no WiFi NIC.
If that's the case, you need to either connect your PC to your FiOS router via Ethernet cable, or you need to add a WiFi card to the PC.
If I'm misunderstanding your issue, and your new machine is a laptop, can you be more specific about what steps you've taken that aren't working?  What are you looking to do with that old antenna?

  • How do I personalize FiOS Trending News?

The "Trending" tab on the Verizon home page includes the following paragraph:
"Check out this personalized, real-time feed featuring the latest content and entertainment from around the Web including new headlines, sports, entertainment and more." (emphasis added)
In what why is the News section personalized? Can I exclude or prioritize certain news sources or topics as can be done with Google News?
In addition, is there a commercial system running behind this site that Verizon has branded or is the News service custom code that Verizon has built?

Sorry, Mozilla doesn't offer a feature like that.
Take a look at Xmarks. http://www.xmarks.com/about/features/overview

  • Any special way to set up a new Actiontec Wireless N Fios router?

I'm looking to buy the newer Wireless N router as I'm using an old Westell 9100 wireless g router. Since I'm buying the fios router new outside of Verizon, when I get it is there anything special I have to do to swap out the routers and get the new one working? I assume I have to sign into it and do something. What do I have to do?
Any help I can get before I get the router so I am prepared ahead of time is appreciated.

Since you say you're buying it outside of Verizon, I would suggest two things.
    1)  Release the DHCP on the old router before you disconnect it, otherwise you may not be able to get a new DHCP lease right away.  http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15898
    2)  Do a hard reset on the new router to make sure the router is set back to factory defaults.

  • Fios news NJ

Can u please add fios 1 news NJ to zip code 08753 please and soon

You need to be more descriptive with your problem.  When you go the doctor do you just say I'm broke.  No, you tell him symptoms.... same wth technical issues.
    So:
What cable did you connect?  and where?
Do have a TV with QAM turner?
Did you switch your TV to display the antenna/cable input?
Did you scan for digital channels?
Did you see new channels found?
    Can you see any channels?
You should see FIOS on channel: 65-1017
    See http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/lineup_web/US:08757#lineup_9885421
Finally I'm pretty sure you get FIOS NJ but Verizon does not added it the STB channels. ....just like me in Westchester with FIOS 1 LI.

  • Can I find out WHY FIOS is not availble in Smyrna, DE

    Yeah, yeah, yeah;
I know the official words from Verizon - "Service is unavailable in my area, we are continously expanding...."
We've had fiber on the poles for several YEARS now here in Smyrna (it was run down my street when they expanded the road / put in sidewalks).
Zip code 19977 (Smyrna) has FIOS in New Castle County (I'm a mile into Kent)
Cheswold (the next town south) has FIOS.
    Dover has FIOS.
    Even Felton has FIOS.
Now, with Smyrna expanding at the rate of 10% per year (5000 households in 2000, 5000 new / approved houses since), I can't see this not being an area that Verizon wouldn't want to expand into.
Currently, I am paying $80 / month to Verizon for phone and DSL, and another $90/ month for Digitial HD from Comcast. All for services that are LESS than what I could get for $99 or $109 / month w/ a FIOS bundle (higher speed + more channels)
So, is this an issue like Wilmington where the local Town of Smyrna politicians are just playing hard-to-get, and want an outrageous amount of money in local franchise fees?  I wouldn't doubt it, since the local franchise fee on my cable service is high, my electric rate is inflated 60% above cost, etc.
If this is the case, then can someone please contact me with any details? I will raise the issue at each and every town hall meeting (weekly) until it is resolved.  It is well worth it to save $70+ /mon !
    Thank You.
    James
P.S.  FIOS would also eliminate the BAD and INSUFFICIENT copper that exists in Smyrna.  On my street, there is a notorious bad pair that when someone complains, the service tech comes out and simply moves it to another person of the street.  There are no additional pairs available, so...  The next time it rains hard, that line goes dead...
I've gotten it 3 times in the past 3 years.
    *sigh*

  • FIOS VOD stops starts

I have an actiontec Gen3 Rev I, it is only a moca bridge, Cisco 3000 is primary router, ONT cat6 to Cisco.
We watch a lot of VOD. Last month started having problems with remote, then with guide, then VOD. All of these things are controlled by router, not STB. Lots of useless cs calls, finally got a tech out and confirmed all other components working fine. PTT a to business tech confirmed updates to the outside system for faster quantum and prep for new router were causing problems with his bridging customers.
We put in an older router with prior rev 40.20.7 but problems persist.
Select VOD, Start watching, several minutes in video pauses, freezes, blacks then resumes, then becomes recurring every 90 seconds or so. Impossible to watch.
No router messages. No moca messages. Can't figure it out.
Thoughts? If there is a thread on this please point me couldn't find in searching.

    Hi Telcoguru,
Unfortunately I think you are missing the core point, the Actiontec Gen3RevI is a poor choice for all but the simplist of installations, it is irrelevant whether it "should" work as first device, the point is that it has worked as a moca bridge for years and is an acceptable installation option sactioned by FIOS. That the Verizon router must be first device is an interweb myth promulgated by lazy FIOS customer support. Fortunately for us FIOS has some pretty sharp field engineers that are on their game.
Many people including myself have been using installation option #7 for years with great success. In fact, #7 is the method used by FIOS installers on business installs, I know because I've had them to my residential install to troubleshoot.
As an IT professional I went through an isolation and troubleshooting review to understand what changed that started causing problems in the existing configuration rather than adjusting the configuration. The only change in the environment was firmware to the STB and something external to my house, neither the FIOS router nor my own router were updated in the time period. Per my earlier post, according to the business installer, FIOS released new software to support the higher speeds on Quantum, and that new software breaks the #7 bridging option.
I've refitted the house for Quantam Gateway and Quantum STB - so new config for me. Happy hunting.

  • Signal Interruption to Router HELP

New(ish) customer here.  Fairly happy except that the signal to the router is frequesntly interrupted, requiring me to close and open my browser several times.  Obviously something up here.  Have shut router off overnight, etc. still happens at the beginning and during each session.  Do I need a service call? FIOS is new to this neighborhood.

Wow that's a bit overwhelming.  her ya go:
What do you mean by "signal interrupted"?  The wireless signal?
No, although I assume it is out if the hard wired desk top isn't revceiving a signal.
The MOCA signal from the ONT to to the router?  The fiber signal from the CO to your ONT?  Can you be more specific?
I am asuming the MOCA signal is out because the COto ONT signal is out.  Although I have never gone to the garage to look at the box. my guess was the fiber signal to the house was being interrupted.
When this happens, what are the lights on the router doing?
Sometimes all are out, sometimes one greenlight is on, not blinking. Sometimes a few are on, not blinking. Often re-opening a browser (where i have always received a message the internet connection is lost) will begin the happy little green light dance on the router and reconnect to the Internet. Sometimes only a router reset does the trick.
Does the internet LED stay green? Or does it turn orage.  Never have seen an orange light on the front of the router.  See above.
How are you connected to the router?  Wireless or cat5? Do you think we unenlightened users are supposed to know what a cat5 connection is? I am connected to the router via an ethernet cable less than six feet in length.
How is the router connected to the ONT?  coax or cat5?
Again, what's with this cat5 business?  There is a coaxial cable to my router from the (ONT?) box in the garage, about 20 feet away, same floor.
When this happens, what are the lights on the ONT doing?  Haven't checked yet, but next time it freezes i will.
Does the Network (fiber)  LED stay green, or does it turn red? YOu're talking about the ONT aren't you? See how I've learned? Again I don't know.
Likewise, what is the MOCA light doing (if you have a coax connection to the ONT).? It seems, oh sensei, that I will have to check the ONT to get a before and after idea of what is going on.
Granted all this is an irritant only, but DSL was steady, and I was told the FIOS signal was constant unless there are bigger neighborhood or system problems.

  • Faster router offer

So i receive this email offering to sell me an 85mb router today. I am paying for Quantum tv with 75/35 internet, the offer would have a customer belleve they need this to achieve good speeds to use the internet or quantum product. If that is the case, why does verizon supply peripherals that will not allow a customer to use the product that they are paying for. OR is the email misleading? please help me to understand

WEP, WPA, & WPA2 have nothing to do with the speed capability of a router.  Those terms describe different types of security for logging into the router's wi-fi.  That said, if you have a router that can not use WPA2, then you should request an updated router, and Verizon should provide you with one for no fee, because WPA2 will give you more security than WEP.  If your router can not do WPA2, then it is probably pretty old and so it also probably uses older wi-fi protocols such as "G" that isn't as fast as newer versions such as "N" or "AC".
If you are using devices that are connected to your current router via ethernet cable, you should be getting close to your paid speed, and the router won't be limiting it.  Verizon only guarantees your full speed when wired.
The latest widely available version of the FIOS router is an "N" router, meaning its wi-fi will have better range and speed than an earlier model which cannot use "N", so if you are having signal issues, the latest router may solve this for you if your devices also are compatible with N wi-fi.   This is the model that Verizon is trying to get you to purchase.  In the Verizon web page, it says that it is capable of providing up to 85 mbps via wi-fi.  If your paid internet tier is over about 100 mbps, Verizon will give you the "N" router for no charge, since it is required for those fastest speeds.  You may be able to talk them into giving you one of these for free if you agree to an upgrade or contract extension.
A new FIOS router is expected to come out soon which features "AC" wi-fi, which will give even more range and speed than N wi-fi, but again, you will need fairly new devices that are AC wi-fi compatible in order to take advantage of that extra range and speed that AC offers.
You could also purchase a newer third party N or AC wi-fi router and use that with your current FIOS router to get better wi-fi range and speed.
Please see the thread below for more information regarding the new FIOS routers.

  • Verizon Salespeople are LIARS

In September of 2013, I was contacted numerous times by Verizon salespeople.  FIOS was new to the area and they were trying to entice new customers.  I knew there was a possibility of a move in my future, so I specifically asked the salesman that I spoke with if there were early termination fees.  He told me that if I moved to an area that had FIOS service and I chose not to continue with that service, that yes, there would be an early termination fee.  However, if I moved to an area that did not have FIOS service, there would be no early termination fee. I am moving to an area that does not currently have FIOS service.  I called today, May 3, to notify Verizon of an upcoming move and was told I have an early termination fee.  I explained the situation and was basically told "too bad".  I really don't appreciate the fact that the salesman "LIED" to me.  I also asked to speak to a supervisor and, of course, there was no one any higher to speak with.  She was as high up as they come.  If a customer has a legitimate complaint and is not getting anywhere with the representative they are speaking with, there should be a supervisor available to listen to the complaint.  I would never do business with Verizon again and as soon as my cell phone contract is up, I will definitely be switching carriers.

The door to door sales people do not work for Verizon. They work for a marketing company and get paid on commission for sales so of course they will tell you whatever you want to hear to make a sale. Always read your contract, Never take someones word for it.
