No firewire device.  Are you serious?

FCE says it's Unable to Locate Firewire Device.
This remains true after two days of troubleshooting.
I have done everything...trashing preferences, checking device control, trashing different QuickTime receipts according to posts on this forum, repairing permissions, changing the firewire cable, using a different port -- everything. I don't know that there's anything left to do.
I went and saw an Apple Genius this morning. All he could recommend was upgrading to 10.4.8. So I did. But it didn't help.
I used System Profiler. It sees the Sony TRV38. Even iMovie HD sees the Sony TRV38. (Yes, I know that FCE uses a different protocol, but the fact is the connection is there...it's not a hardware problem.) Everything sees the Sony except for FCE.
I am getting very nervous because I have a project to start and iMovie is not the solution for me. Does anyone know of something else I can try???

  • Are you serious that photoshop does not support touch zoom and rotate??!!

I just spent thousands of dollars on a new cintiq 22hd touch and now people are telling me that touch zoom and rotate are not supported in photoshop when running it with a windows platform (only works with MACS)???!!! are you serious???!!! I just tested this out and its TRUE!!!  You can pan with touch but not zoom or rotate.  The zoom and rotate functions work in all my other programs BUT NOT PHOTOSHOP.  I even have the latest version of photoshop (CC), latest patch and all and nope! no multitouch support!
I dont know who im more pissed with WACOM or ADOBE.   Wacom's touch advertising was supposed to be their selling point! if you cant even use it with the most popular graphics program...err what's the point???  And Adobe should have provided support like what...AGES AGO...the touch tablets and cintiqs have been out for almost a year now!
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT WE LIVE IN 2013 and the best graphic hardware IS NOT COMPATIBLE with THE BEST GRAPHIC SOFTWARE on an OS (windows) that like over 50% of the population use??!!
    UNBELIEVABLE!

I do not have a cintiq however I down loaded the user manuals for the DTH-2242 and DTK-2241 and the Cintiq 22HD> the first two Interactive pen displays seem to support multi Touch where the Cintiq 22HD only seem to support touch strips.
The ones with multitouch support show this in the user manuals. On windows standard gestures are always on and there is no TAB. I would not like that.

  • My email password and my verizon account password are the same? Are you SERIOUS?

The other day I did something I never do, actually log into my verizon account.  I hate the verizon interface, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than use it, but every now and then I have to use it to handle a bill.  So, of course the password that I remembered setting on it didn't work.  So I jumped through the hoops to reset the password, conducted my business, and left the site, hopefully not to return for a year at least.
Lo and behold, the next time I tried to access my email (which I use Thunderbird for, and don't tell me it's not a supported client, it works fine, and no I'm not going to use Verizon's webmail interface), it won't accept my email password.  Now, this password HAD always been distinct from my verizon account password.  But...telling myself, "Oh no they didn't," I tried using the new password that I'd set for my online account.  Surprise!  It let me into my email!
Now, this morning, neither the new password nor my old email password are being accepted.
So, I have two questions, apart from the existential "why does Verizon feel the need to torture its customers like this":
1)Are they SERIOUSLY requiring you to have the SAME password for your email AND your My Verizon Account?
2)If, as I hope and pray, the answer to 1 is "hellz no", how can I change just my EMAIL password?
Anticipating a reply of, "No, it's just one password, because we've decided that's MORE secure, and your whole problem is that you're using Thunderbird, because ummmm somehow Thunderbird renders passwords into ancient Greek before it submits them and so it won't work, but of course some dull-normal client like Outlook WILL work, and don't ask me the details because I'm really not very technical, but apparently I'm technical enough to tell you that your client is no good"...

Yes, the passwords are the same now. Verizon made a big push a while back to give customers a single login. They merged everyone's accounts, not because it is more secure, but because they think customers will find it easier. No, there is no way to change just your email password.
And no, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using Thunderbird. Many of us have it configured for verizon.net addresses, and it works just fine.
Wish I had a better answer for you...

  • Unable to type in password if firewire devices are connected

I've just upgraded to Lion, and have this odd problem.  When Lion boots on my Mac Mini, it prompts to type in my password.  If I have my Firewire devices connected (two external storage device, a Seagate and Drobo), I can't type in password or click on any of the buttons (such as reboot or shut down).
If I disconnect Firewire cable from my Mac Mini, I can type in the password, then reconnect Firewire cable and everything works fine from that point on!?
Looking around, I saw few reports of frozen login screen.  Though, my problem looks a bit different.  For example, the cursor in my case is still normal cursor, not the beach ball.
If it makes any difference, the keyboard is Apple's wireless (bluetooth) keyboard.
Wondering if anybody else run into same problem?

For now, I simply connected it via USB, and it seems to be happy.  It's just a DVD drive, probably not getting too much benefit for being on Firewire port.
As for firmware, last firmware update for it was back in 2005 (it's an older DVD drive, LG GSA-5163D, however still does its job very nicely), which I think I might have installed long time ago (not sure how to get what version the drive runs).  Anyhow, LG provides only Windows exe for flashing the firmware, and I don't have any Windows boxes at home.  There's at least one open-source flasher for Mac which claims it can extract firmware from LG's Windows exe and flash it onto the drive.  However, I'd rather not trust it not to fry the drive in the process if I really don't have to ;-)

I have to CUT sections out before i want to copy and paste them, are you kidding ME!? i make 8-16 loops and you me to tell me if i want just want to make a copy of 4bars of the 8, i have to cut the 8 in half, copy the 4 i want past it down the line somewhere, then GLUE back the 8 again? come ooooonnn, this is way to much work. what ever happen to just highlighting a region, copy and past it where you want?

  • Are you serious Blackberry? Doesn't sync with a Mac?

I was having all kinds of problems syncing my Blackberry Bold 9900 to my Mac.  A blackberry tech told me that I should upgrade to the Blackberry 10, since it has no problems syncing to a Mac.
Several hundred dollars and a few hours of frustration later, I call Blackberry to let them know that syncing still isn't working.  This time a tech told me that calendars not syncing to Macs was a "known issue" and there was no ETA for this to be fixed but that it certainly wouldn't be for a while.
Seriously, blackberry?  Your flagship product, out for several months, doesn't do this rather basic thing most users would simply assume that it does?  And it's not disclosed anywhere!!  (even the blackberry link software for Mac happily tells you that you are syncing calendars with no errors).

  • If you have 3 apple devices, are you able to facetime?

We have 3 devices, ipad 2, iphone 5 and an ipod, are we able to factetime between the three devices?

Yes.  Just be sure to use a separate Apple ID for FaceTime on each one.  (You can still share the same ID for iTunes purchasing.)

  • Blocked Account- Skype are you serious...look at a...

Is this truly the customer service you want to withhold.  To continue business and to create more revenue, the best and number one way is "GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE" BUT "YOU HAVE FAILED"     this account, and I am not afraid to give you my number 760-712-4828 , but you not only took money from me to continue a subscription I could no longer afford, not for any other reason.  You penalized me, by blocking my account, the last 5 days I did have on my account, and the only $7.12 is blocked as well.  Is there anyway I and all these other messages can be helped.
This will be a catastrophic blunder and the rewards that you are trying to achieve, will be awful.  I am not trying to say this will happen and I want this to happen.  But Skype...it is obvious from you message boards, that you need to create a better way to communicate, and a better way to treat those that have actually given you money for your service.
Just the most recent history should show you what will happen.  Look at Netflicks...
Please do not ignore your customers.  We just want our monies...or our service...to be unblocked, and a way to contact you when such an occasion arises.

So I ordered the iphone at 3:01am on 2/9.  Just like everyone else, I have been waiting patiently to receive the phone.  As of this morning, the phone was still saying expected ship date of 2/18.  That sucks, but I have been patient.  Then I get an email today, that my order has been CANCELLED!  I didn't cancel, and there was nothing wrong with my paysource.  When I called Verizon (outraged, fyi) they could not tell me WHY the order was cancelled, and all they could offer me is to place a new order.  When I asked them if they could send the phone out right away, they told me they couldn't, and the expected ship date was 2/18/11.  I have NEVER been so furious with service from a company.  While the customer service rep was great, and very apologetic, it still doesn't do a lot as far as cred for Verizon.  I am tempted to say screw the whole thing, and get the new Droid.  Thanks for having me wait YEARS for this phone, only to be utterly disappointed and disgusted with the whole flipping experience. Shame on you.
It's still going to be shipped as if your order before had gone through, so why don't you just place another order online?

  • Firewire Where Are You

I can't believe Steve has done this to it's faithful Mac users and has gotten rid of fire wire, now it take 4 times has long to down load anything you want to add to your ipod and if you don't have a usb 2.0 connection your up s--ts creek remember Steve first Mac windows second or is it the other way around?????? ?

I agree with StarDeb55, I was a bit disappointed that FireWire was gone. But I found that uploading 12 GB of stuff onto my new iPod wasn't THAT much slower than FireWire I suppose some people say that they found USB 2.0 much slower, but I didn't have that problem at all.

  • NO DATED BACKUPS anymore? Are you serious 'Apple'?

Yesterday I made a backup on my iphone, today I did as well and look what just happened! : I ITUNES 'RENEWED' my latest backup with a new one instead of making ANOTHER BACKUP. Plus, ACCIDENTALLY, SYNC BACKUP WAS CHECKED IN ITUNES AND IT WAS AUTOMATICALLY REPLACING MY LATEST BACKUP EVERYTIME MY IPHONE GOT PLUGGED IN ??
So instead of making new backups when I click on 'Back up now' it replaced the latest backup.................and so automatically syncing does it too..........
    This is so ********, Apple!
I tried backup extractor but still, it shows only the latest backup not all of them.
    Jesus...

iTunes maintains one rolling backup of each device until such time as you use the backup to restore a device. After the restore completes the backup is archived and a new rolling backup is created.
The backup is updated during the first sync of each calendar day, or if you backup now. I personally recommend going into Edit > Preferences > Devices and ticking Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically to avoid accidentally overwriting a backup that you wanted to restore.

  • No perpetual licenses are you serious?

I just head that Adobe was planning to abandon its perpetual license in favor of an on line only rental program. At first I thought that this must be a joke. I have been using adobe products for 18 years. Primarily Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. I am currently an owner of CS 6 Master collection and obviously do upgrade my products and have consistently done so over the years. I am not connected to the internet full time and in fact my work computer is never directly connected to the internet. So how does this work? Is adobe now forcing me to connect to the internet - it seems that this is the case.
In regards to upgrade cycles, I dont want to rent my software and be tied to a rental agreement. I want to upgrade when I choose, not rent my software like some kind of loaner program!
I want to purchase the software then not worry about it. For instance when I travel, I dont want to be bogged down with downloads and upgrades chewing up my bandwidth. I have traveled to many places where internet access is very limited. Downloading from a wireless card in China is painful, I dont want to be bogged down with no software or large megabyte downloads costing me a fortune on the other side of the planet.
Adobe I know that I am just one person and you will probably not listen to me but did someone ask? No one asked me about this. How simple could this be - I want to buy the software then use it when I want where I want, is this too much to ask?
Please let me continue to use this software in the way that I have used it for so long. If others wish to have the creative cloud then great! More power to them, don't alienate your other users. Please provide both alternatives.
    Best regards - Matt

    Matt,
There is a lot of confusion over this and hopefully, I can help clear some of it up.
You do not have to be online in order to use the software. This is covered in our FAQ:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html#
Do I need ongoing Internet access to use my Creative Cloud desktop applications?
No.  Your Creative Cloud desktop applications (such as Photoshop and Illustrator) are installed directly on your computer, so you won't need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis.
You will need to be online when you install and license your software. If you have an annual membership, you'll be asked to connect to the web to validate your software licenses every 30 days.  However, you'll be able to use products for 99 days even if you're offline.
(note, we are planning to expand this to 180 days.)
So, you have to be online when you install, but after that, you only need to be online once every 3 months (99 days).
    Hope that helps...

  • Are you serious???Really??? $9 charge for $1 surprise increase in bill that was paid days later???

ATT has had for a long time ongoing "bill creep".  Now I get a $9 charge for a $1 surprise increase on monthly fee that I paid as soon as I discovered it!!!!  I had automatic payments set up on my bank account for the originally agreed upon monthly charges. This is just so wrong.  I will not waste an hour of my life (normal phone time whenever I have had to call ATT about anything in the past--also true of all my friends).  I will try my best to find another provider that will honor its original agreement about monthly charges and not charge outrageous fees for setting up its customers.   I left the home phone service a while back for "bill creep" (and am saving almost 90% on my bill) after being a customer for decades, so now I will leave Uverse for the same rotten reason as soon as I can find another provider. I truly HATE this company. Pat

So, you don't bother to check the monthly bill before the automatic payment is deducted? I seem to get an email each month listing the $ amt and when it is going to be charged to my CC.
Have to say it is on you for not doing that, not ATT for increasing your bill $1.  Generally bills increase in the Feb billing, not any other month.

if I was to get a new MacBook Pro, would I still be able to use my Firewire 400 hard drive? this drive only has 2 Firewire 400 connections and has my entire iTunes library on it. any suggestions?

firewire is obsolete now that usb 3.0 is out
Nonsense. It is not obsolete until a long time after no more FireWire devices are being made, new. And that is certainly not the case today.
Any FireWire equipment you own still performs perfectly well. I expect to buy FireWire external drives for the forseeable future.
I have devices that do not support USB-3. USB-3 has too much overhead for my liking. USB-3 also seems to be having trouble with Hubs and cabling.
