The new aluminum MacBooks do not have a firewire port on them because Steve Jobs says you don't need it (its a recent joke around here).
Unfortunately, there is no way around it unless you want to use some other computer that you may or may not have that has a firewire port on it to transfer the video then go through the hassle of transferring the files to your new MacBook for editing. Not a very simple way of doing things.
If you want to use your current camera to do this kind of work you will need to take your Aluminum MacBook back and get a White MacBook which has the proper Firewire port on it.
Sorry for the bad news,,,

If you have Firewire 800 it's a boxy looking port, the Firewire 400 is thinner and has a arrow looking shape, you can get a adpater.
FW800 is simply FW 400 x 2, so the adapter gives you FW 400.

If the macBook Pro will not read the card/files then you might need a converter, check out:

  • Cannot transfer videos from iPhone 4s to PC with Vista--HELP!!

Have valuable videos of my Dad (his health is declining rapidly) on my iPhone 4s. I want to download them to my PC, which uses Vista. This has been incredibly difficult. I used the most updated version of QuickTime, with no luck. The videos will transfer, but I cannot open them. Would purchasing QuickTime Pro help, or is this a waste of money? I have so many videos on my phone that I can't back it up. Need to transfer them ASAP.

    Hello, OcnBrez.
I know how important these are to you and will do my best to help.  The first question I have is how are you importing these videos?  Any error messages received when attempting to play these videos?  Video importing does require Quicktime 7.6.2 or later.  Below, I have listed the article on how to import your photos.  I have also included the download link for the latest version of Quicktime for Windows.

  • Cannot transfer videos from iPhone to Pc

It started a couple of months ago that I just could not transfer my photos and videos from the iPhone to the Pc..a week ago I finally found a software which called Photo Transfer App Version 1.2 and I can transfer my pictures but not my videos.
Is there any other App to use to transfer the videos to the Pc as well?
Somebody please help me it would be much appreciated..Thank you..

See the Windows XP section near the bottom of iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Also, note the following quote from near the top of that section:
Windows XP can't import video files larger than 500 MB using Camera and Scanner Wizard. You can transfer these files from your device by selecting them in My Computer and dragging or copying the files to your computer's hard drive.

  • Transfer Video from a  Camcorder

I want to put footage i recorded from my camcorder, which uses mini DV tapes, onto DVD.I have no firewire connection on my camcorder only usb,or DV.What is the quickest and simplest way to dp this?

    Hi
    on: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/jvc-gr-d72-camcorder-review.htm
    it says: Ports (7.0)
The assortment of jacks on the GR-D72 include: Mini AV in / out, which is also the headphone jack, an S-Video In/Out, _+*and a Firewire port*+_. Of these, the only one that comes included in the box is the AV in/out. The ports appear to be of sturdy construction so should last with frequent plugging and unplugging of cables.
So You need a 6-pin to 4-pin FireWire Cable - usually NOT included when buying Camera.
It looks as it is a FW-connector just under the USB-one on Your Camera.
Use this and iMovie and/or FinalCut should connect.

  • How do I transfer video from my camcorder to my iMac?

I have a Sony HandyCam (DCR-DVD92 NTSC, 800x Digital zoom, 20x Optical zoom).
How can I transfer the video to my iMac?
Is the "Video Capture" from Elgato the best way, or is there something easier?

Did your camera ome with a FireWire or USB cord?  It should have some sort of output port.

  • I need to transfer video from a camcorder to my iMac what cables needed?

I have an old Canon Optura 300. I just realized that it still has a tape in it with important memories I would like to preserve. I suppose I could get a disk made, but I would rather do the transfer to my imac myself and have the "tools" needed. According to the Canon tech I spoke with, I need a DV IEEE1394 4-pin cable. But since that's a firewire cable I will also need a converter in order to use it with my iMac. Does getting the "Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire" adapter make sense and is it the right way to go in order to transfer the video onto my computer? Do I need anything else to complete this transfer?
Just checking—I know there's no better place to go for my answer than this site.  Thanks, Joan (still OS X 10.8.5 for now)

OK, so that part is correct. Then, do I just hookup and it automatically goes onto my computer? What will capture it, or will it simply show on my desktop and I need to open it with...what?

How do I transfer video from my iPad to my MacBook Pro?

    Hi MeSwolf,
You can do it wirelessly with Dropbox. The Dropbox app has a very cool auto-upload process that will automatically upload photos and videos from the iPad Camera Roll to Dropbox.
First sign up for a free Dropbox account from your computer.
Then, download the free Dropbox app on your iPad.
Log in to the Dropbox app on the iPad with your new account and click on the Photos icon in the lower left corner of the screen (second one from the left).
Select "Enable Camera Upload" and "Only Wi-Fi." The upload process will begin for all existing photos and videos in the Camera Roll.
From now on, all future photos and videos taken by the iPad will automatically upload to the Dropbox folder. You can then download your photos from Dropbox to your computer by going tohttp://www.dropbox.com, logging in to your account, and downloading the photos and videos.
    Hope this helps!
