No firewire while high pitched ring is happening

I have a Dual 2.3GhZ G5 powermac tower. When it first starts up theres a very high pitched ring, almost not noticeable, the ring eventually goes away after warming up between 2-4 hours. While this ring is happening my 2 firewire ports will not work. If I open an application of the computer has to do "some work" the ring cuts in and out but then eventually comes back.
Now its happening no matter how long the computer warms up (even days).
The rest of the computer functions fine aside form no firewire devices showing up.
Any thoughts????

Hi uertzjl, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Tough to tell what the "ring" sound might actually be, but the symptoms sound like a problem with the Power Supply.

  • Pre has a high pitched ringing noise while on touchstone

Every time I set my Pre on the touchstone, the second it starts charging it has this high pitched ringing noise, like the kind older people lose the ability to hear. Is there any way I can get this to quit?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Same problem here. At first I thought it was the touchstone, but it seems like it is coming straight from the Pre. Turning down the volume on the speaker does nothing. Turning up the volume works though - when you are playing music! ;-)

  • Sony Bravia high pitched ringing

I just bought a brand new Sony Bravia 32' model KDL32EX500 yesterday and everything appeared to be in working order except for a very high pitched ringing sound that comes from the television. I figured this was normal as it is powered on, but it also continues to make this high pitched noise while in standby mode. I researched this a bit online and found this to not be normal at all. I was just wondering what I would be able to do about this or if there is a possible way to fix it. After unplugging the television from the outlet after every use, the noise goes away after several seconds, but I'd hate to have to do that all the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I had this same problem while video chatting. I think it has to do with the sound being echoed through the speakers. For example, if I said hi, my friend can hear it, her mic picks it up, it comes back through my speakers my mic picks it up, goes back to her.. etc.
Simple solution, use head phones when talking. As soon as everyone in my chat plugged our ipod headphones into our computer the problem disappeared.
    Hope this helps!

  • High pitch ringing sound when i plug my headphones in.

    Hi
I am currently using a Macbook Pro 15" retina display
There has been no problems previously. Out of no where, today my headphones has this high pitched ringing sound whenever i plug it in.
The audio is fine when I do not use any headphones. but when i plug them in, there is a ringing sound. This is happens as well when i plug in other headphones I have.
I have tried going to Sound under System Preferences and adjusting the stuff there but nothing seems to work.
This ringing sound makes listening to anything unbearable.
    Please help

There is a micro switch inside the socket to switch between the optical output (digtal), headphones and internal speakers. It sometimes gets stuck.
Push the headphone plug into the socket numereous times and see if it frees the switch. Please do not push other foreigh objects into the socket as you may break the switch and/or the electrical contacts.

  • High pitch ringing when recording voiceover

I just started getting a ringing when recording voiceovers. Any idea why?

I am using a Blue Snowball mic. I am also using Sony MDR-7502 headphones. There is a constant high pitch ringing.
In the past I've done voiceovers in FCP with this mic and no headphones without any problems. Since I tried to use the headphones (I bought them today) I'm getting the what I guess is feedback. Even when I unplug the headphones and plug the speakers in, as in previous set up, I am continuing to get feedback. (if this is feedback). This didnt happen before.
Any ideas? I've tried monitor on and off. Turned off my external hard drive. Checked automatic level control. I cant figure this out. I am new to setting up an evironment for recording other than my previous set up so maybe its something basic. You mentioned doorbells and phones. Does that mean nothing metal near the computer such nail clippers or hard drive? Do I need a shockmount? Is that the problem?

  • High Pitch ring/ B

Hi guys, i've been reading alot of issues with the x-fi and nf4. So i figured i see if anyone if familiar with this before i try creatives imfamous tech support. Anyways i am quite computer literate and understand whats going on. Now for my issue, at random times during games, specifically Company of Heroes, Underground 2, Star Wars Empire at War the sound will screetch a high ping ring and stay that way. So loud that i have to turn my speakers off. It only goes away when i restart the comp. Now i have SLI, I turned it off in COH and it seemed to go away for now, but that defeats the prupose of having sli lol. But the other games seem to have some issue or another relating to this. I didnt think this qualifies and the crackling problem i've heard alot about this seems different. FYI onbaord sound works fine. Now i have no other pci card, just the sound blaster but it does share an irq with one of my video cards, asus said thats how the pci bus works on the newier boards (kinda baffled me). Newiest bios, newiest drivers blah blah no rookie stuff. All other onboard devices are off PCI Lat at 64. Now for my specs
    Asus p5n32-sli se (nf4)
    Intel core 2 duo e6600
2xg corsair xms pc6400 5-5-5-2 The stock timings are 4-4-4-0 i set them high just incase
    2x evga 7900gt co's
    550watt Antec Trupower

Yeah i also have a p5n32-sli SE with a E6600 and the same memory and PSU but with two 7800gt in sli, and in most games like for example Gothic 3 and Dark messiah of might and magic i also get that problem. Altho in some games it seems more random, like in gothic 3 i can sometimes play for very long times without it happening but in say dark messiah i get it constantly after a pretty short while. And also since that high pitch beep can be muted in windows i would guess its some kind of software problem.
I found these threads with other people having the same problem

    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=76653
but no solution, altho some claim disabling SLI will work but as you said that relly isnt an option, id rather use my onboard sound in that case.
I sent a mail to creatives support like a week ago but have yet to get a reply.
The only thing i forgot to try was using the old drivers that came with the card instead of the latest, but i had to pull out the card to find the serial and model numbers when contacting support and i havent bothered putting the card back in so i cant try, but then again i think someone in one of those threads already tried with older drivers and it didnt fix it.
Well , I remeber the days when soundblaster cards were THE cards for gaming but sadly creative seems to have dropped the ball with this series, and sadly seeing all the problems creative are having with these cards and the lack of support even indicating they are working on fixing the isssues , well lets just say i probably wont waste my money on a creative product ever again, after all thats all i can do as a consumer.

  • High Pitched ringing from Zen Mi

I have had my Zen Micro for about two weeks and I have noticed that there is a high pitched noise that emanates from the Zen when I listen to the first 20 seconds of a song. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem without having to send in my player for repair. Thanks in advance.

I believe the ringing noise referred to is transient RF interference caused by the aft section of the player amplifier circuits as they amplify the converted audio signal before it heads out the headphone output. There may be a grounding issue to the circuitboard in the player, as running the backlight seems to temporarily cancel this noise out. I have never encountered a noise that starts when the audio file is started only to disappear 5 to 20 seconds later, only a noise that breaks in on the audio signal once the backlight goes out.
Transient noise may be a symptom of HDD operation on HDD-based players. I have never encountered noise issues with solid-state players such as the RIO or the Sony key-series. Sadly, if this so there can be no cure. Some persons may not notice such high-pitched noise and some persons may find they are quite sensiti've to it. That's how it goes.
I have found that Creative's earphones seem to filter out most of the noise due to a frequency range that is just not as high as competitor products. Creative may have deliberately engineered this range to its products, or they might have simply thought that too much high-frequency noise coming through little tiny earbuds is just not too good for the ears. This is not an uncommon design philosophy.

  • How can I remove high-pitched distortion from voice-over?

    Hi folks,
I'm completely new to fixing audio. I am making a short film, and for a voice-over, I recently had to do an interview over the phone (the subject lives in a very remote location). Actually, I used GoToMeeting, we called into the conference call feature from our phones, and I recorded the meeting into a wmv file. Then I re-encoded it using Expression Encoder so I could pull it into Adobe Audition.
I am attaching a short phrase (extracted as a .wav file) from the interview in the hope that someone can tell me how to improve the quality of the sound. I have Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition, both CS6 and CC versions.
Short voice recording - Creative COW
    1. Can anyone tell me, please, how to get rid of the high-pitched "ringing" kind of distortion that we hear on each of her loudest syllables? Also, does this particular type of distortion have a name? I kept finding articles on fixing sound, but wasn't sure what I'm dealing with here, so I wasn't sure which techniques were likely to work. Tried a bunch, and the overall sound got better, but so far nothing has fixed that high-pitched distortion.
    2. After getting rid of that ringing distortion, what are your recommendations for making the voice recording sound as rich, smooth and full as possible? In real life, this woman has a BEAUTIFUL, rich voice. But the recording sounds like a flat telephone call (because it is).
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

Well, I don't think there's any miracles to be had here.  As you say, it's a telephone call and I fear that, since phone lines filter out anything above about 4k, there's no way of replacing it.
I had a look at your file in spectral view and you can clearly see the original material going, as expected, up to about 4 kilohertz--but, above that, there's a generalised area of noise.  My suspicion--and it's only a suspicion--is that during your double conversions (to wmv then through a third party app to something else) one of them has added the extra noise as it your original was full bandwidth.
Anyhow, best I could do was use the Marquee tool in Spectral View, draw a rectangle around the upper area (you can see a clear boundary between the programme content and the random extra frequencies) then just delete everything above just over 4 khz then delete.
As for making a phone call sound full and rich, if there was a way to do it, when I was working in TV we could have saved hundreds of thousands a year by using phones instead of far more expensive circuits!

  • Eliminating high-pitched noise

I have recorded an acoustic guitar track using two condenser mics. During playback, I am hearing a high-pitched ringing - just loud enough to be annoying. I have recorded guitar dozens of times with this exact same set up and have never had this problem.
I am trying to figure out a way to eliminate (or at least reduce) this noise from the track without having to re-record the whole thing. Does anyone know if there is an effect or filter or EQ trick I can employ for this?

I don't know what filter Plugs you're using but Logic's Eqs should be able to do this. If it's a stereo track use the Linear phase Eq to preserve the correct phases. So look at the frequency display of your Eq, and boost the ringing with a notch filter band (set to maybe +15 dB - watch your ears), set the Q to 100 (as narrow as it can be) and go through the frequency spectrum until you've found the ringing. Then turn the gain to a negative value until the ringing has gone away. If that doesn't do it, try iZotope RX (they have a demo) which has a fantastic spectral repair function.

  • My droid razr m suddenly developed a high pitched buzz while ringing and when callers are speaking. It doesn't buzz while on speaker. Any one have same problem or a solution to it?

My droid razr m has developed a high pitched buzz while ringing and when callers are speaking. It does not buzz when on speaker. Anyone have this problem or a solution to it?

Teakman lets make sure your device is clear as a whistle! There is not a known audio issue with the Droid Razr M so it appears this may be an hardware defect with the device. To make certain that's not an internal issue, I would recommend completing a Hard Reset http://vz.to/1kEchad .

  • High pitch squeal related to Firewire audio device after 10.6.2 audio patch

So the recent Mac Pro audio update 1.0 (applied on 10.6.2) has reduced my CPU temperature with audio playback (Presonus Firebox Firewire audio interface) and that is great. Also haven't had any machine crashes (grey screens) recently which is also great.
The problem is that when the Firebox is plugged into the firewire port of the Mac Pro there is a constant high pitched whistle of slightly oscillating frequency. If I unplug the Firebox the whistle goes away in a few seconds.
After prolonged use in a quiet room (the kind of room you need for audio recording / mixing work!) the noise is enough to drive me crazy.
I read a post on another forum with other people having the same problem. Can anyone comment here on seeing the same thing? Is there any known work around or fix for this?
When the CPU is under heavy load (e.g. H.264 compression etc.) the noise subsides only to return when there is normal load (i.e. half a dozen apps running).
    Help!
    Thanks

So I was able to back out the update using "Kext Helper b7" and the original IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext files from a backup before applying the update. It's pretty easy - just drop the two files onto Kext Helper, hit "go" and then reboot.
My ears are no longer in constant pain and I can actually use the Mac Pro again albeit running quite hotter than before.
This is not a fix Apple. The problem looks unrelated to a specific device based on the posts in this thread. Please issue a usable fix for the Mac Pro Audio performance issue.

  • High pitch whine and FireWire bus power

    Delighted with my MBP!
Just noticed the high pitch whine today when I set it up in a quieter room and plugged it into an IOGear bus-powered FireWire hub shared with my other Mac.
It was around 8000 hz and loud enough that I could not stand to stay in the room with it.
When I unplugged it from the hub and connected the cable directly to the FW port, the whine was greatly attenuated (I could hear it only by putting my ear next to the vents at the top of the keyboard).
Could the problem be related to powering the FireWire bus? (It reminds me of the sound of a switching power supply or DC-DC converter) Has anyone else had any success in finding ways to attenuate this high pitch tone?
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   7200 rpm

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really trying to cut down on the number of devices that I leave plugged into the mains, so would ideally like a solution that relies purely on power supplied by the internal bus.
I've had a bit of progress with my current set-up. I've switched to using a 2 headed USB lead that came with my Hard Drive. This does mean I effectively lose a USB socket, but it appears that the Hard Drive + the Webcam can now live happily together.
It just means that I have to swap the 4th USB port for whatever ad-hoc device I need to use at the time rather than leaving things connected to it.
Out of geeky curiosity, I'd still be interested to know whether the USB and Firewire buses share their power or each have a dedicated amount.
    Cheers,
    Ian

  • Sometimes while talking on my iphone 5 i can hear a loud high pitched tone

sometimes while talking on my iphone 5 i can hear a loud high pitched tone

    Hello ssnow71,
Intermittent issues can be some of the toughest to troubleshoot but I have a few recommendations for you.
First if you havent already, then I would restart the iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If the issue is not resolved, then I might suggest resetting the iPhone next.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
And if all that does not resolve the issue, you may need to backup and restore the iPhone otutright:

  • High pitched tone with XtremeGa

Hi, I keep getting a high pitched tone after a few minutes. The only way to stop it is to close down all processes related to my card. I have updated all of my drivers. I called Tech support and was told that it was bottlenecking and they gave me a printout of suggestions but none of them seem to work. My problem was happening while the Azalia was turned on. It was still happening after I turned it off as well. I get the high pitched tone if I'm listening to music, but if I'm playing a game, the sound will just cut out. It is also related to my speakers. I can lower the volume by turning them down. I disable my firewire and the X-Fi is the only thing set to IRQ 22 right now. I left my pc on last night playing music to test it out and I still got the tone. I've called Tech support and both times they said it was a resource problem. I called yesterday and the guy said that it was because the X-FI was sharing IRQ 2 with My IDE Controller. I couldn't figure out how to disable that so I disabled my Firewire on IRQ 22 and switched my X-Fi with my Lynksis Wireless card so the Lynksis is now on IRQ 2 with the IDE controller and the X-FI is on IRQ 22 by itself. But like I said that didn't help cause I still had the problem last night. Lately it takes a while for the Tone to happen. Last night I was listening to Itunes and playing C&C3 for about 3 hours without a problem, but when I woke up this morning, I could hear the tone. Right now I'm trying out the suggestion from the ASUS forum. He had an X-FI Fatalyt but didn''t specify what motherboard he was using.
