***  No fixes have worked to stem rapid battery drain  ***

Including reboot and reinstall of software at Apple store      Please contact me Apple to monitor my device and help figure out what's wrong.     If not I'm returning it and going back to berry.

Beta testing can only do so much since it's limited to just so many testers. But a full blown mass public release is a different thing altogether. So much more individual situations come into play, and some problems don't show up until this stage.

Not per se a formal company announcement, but it's public now nonetheless.

  • IOS 5 rapid battery drain (including in sleep mode), springboard crashes: FIX!

OK folks, I resolved all issues in their entirety with the help of a genius bar tech who recognized that I was very technical.  WARNING!  Sync or backup your phone prior to performing these steps!
First, do a MANUAL download here of the IOS 5 that matches the model of phone you have and save that image to your desktop or some other place on your computer.  PUT THE PHONE IN DFU MODE, not recovery mode (google on how to accomplish if you are not familiar).  The raeson why you are going to put in DFU mode is so that you will be able to not only get a good copy of IOS 5 installed but to ensure that your firmware is not corrupt, which appeared to be the case with my battery drains and springboard crash issues.
One you are in DFU mode (your screen should be black the whole time, again google), open itunes and it will give you a warning that says that your phone needs to be restored.  If you are on a mac, hold down the option key and press RESTORE in iTunes.  This will open up a box that will allow you to "locate and select" a file, which will be the IOS 5 image that you manually downloaded before.
Once you do, the iphone will start to restore.  After all of the restore cycles have been completed, you will be prompted in iTunes to either setup as a new phone or restore from backup.  I USED RESTORE FROM BACKUP so that I could preserve all of my settings.  Everything has been working PERFECTLY ever since completing these steps!  I will probably go ahead and make a separate thread related to this fix.
    I hope this helps!  Scott

Their is another thread in here that mentions turning off reporting of Diagnostics data (Settings --> General --> About --> Scroll to the bottom/Diafnostics --> Select Don't send.
Another item to check are you E-mail accounts. If you only have one account in this section then you should be good. If you have multiple and have every feature turned on (Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, etc) then your device could be trying to update to all and timing out which would get it to retry over and over again. I have turned off all the other features for my email accounts with the exception of iCloud and my battery life is looking good.

  • Why Does My iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.0.1 Cause Rapid Battery Drain

I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.0.1, and now the battery drains very rapidly---needs to be recharged after a few hours---and gets very warm. Before this, iOS 4.0 was fine (although slightly increased battery drain over 3.1.3).
I use Exchange with push and had no issues before iOS 4.0.1. This may be the culprit now because when I turn off "push," the battery drain appears to be normal (although not extensively tested yet). But, I also have MobileMe, Yahoo!, and Google email accounts set up.
Is this a new problem? Anyone else have this problem? How can this be fixed? Anyone have any ideas?

*Reposting this..had done the same thing earlier as well*
    This is my observation from past 6 nights;
All 6 nights, charged my iPhone to max and then kept it in sleep/stand by. Not even a single call or mail checked...(11 pm to 6:30 am when my alarm rings)
1st & 2nd Nights, I had flight center, angry birds, twitter, facebook, mail, phone, sms, settings app open in the multi-tasking bar.
Battery drained from 100% to 83%
3rd and 4th nights, i had only twitter, facebook, mail, phone, sms
Battery drained from 100% to 92%
5th and 6th nights, I had nothing open
Battery drained from 100% to 93%
my mail is always in push enable setting to exchange and me account,
location always on, bluetooth always off. 3G off
I thought, the applications on multi tasking bar is actually not draining the battery, but looks like they are...might be a flaw in multi tasking api or may be from developer.
I hope to get an easy way to kill the apps and not let it go to multi tasking bar.

  • Have iPhone 6 and have 8.1 now w/battery drain issues. Advised to reinstall 8.1 in iTunes. How???

I seemed to have much better batter life on my iPhone 6 while on 8.0.2. Upgraded to 8.1 and now having battery drain issues!! Installed over the air on wifi and all seemed to upgrade fine. I've read a fix may be to reinstall on iTunes. How do I now reinstall 8.1 on iTunes when I'm already running 8.1? Any suggestions?

In most cases the problems when switching to a new iOS version are (as I had with my switch from iOS6 > iOS7):
    - rogue app process (app not updated yet to iOS8/8.1) check Settings > General > Usage > Battery usage in percentage to determine which app is using much more battery although you haven't used it at all or much.
    - settings in e-mail receiving is changed
    - background app refresh (turn it off if you do not need it)
    - location services (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
    - notifications (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
    - Facebook app
See also this great article about this.

  • IOS 4.2.1 + 3G data = hot phone & extremely rapid battery drain

    Anyone else having this issue?
Since "upgrading" to iOS 4.2.1 on the weekend, it seems anytime I try to use the phone for data over 3G, it'll heat up like crazy and I can watch the battery drain in front of my eyes.
Everything else works fine including data over WiFi aside from some apps quitting abruptly without any transition effects.
I've reset and just finished Restoring. Less than a minute after I turn off WiFi and use any kind of data, the phone heats up and my battery % actually went down while connected to my Mac Pro.

    Donovan,
just wanted to share my experience... I too updated to 4.2.1 the other day and running on Rogers network. I noticed that the 3G data seems to be the culprit. Its consistantly downloading data! I can only imagine what Rogers is going through if all iphone 3G's are having this issue :s... I just turned off cellular data and running some tests, later tonight going to try a full restore to see what that will do...
    keep you posted.

  • Rapid battery drain after Mavericks Install

    Hey everyone,
I've spent a lot of time reviewing the existing threads and haven't been able to pinpoint a solution to my issue. I upgraded my late 2008 MacBook Aluminum 2.4 GHZ to Mavericks, and noticed considerable battery drain. I made an appointment at the Apple Store to do a clean install of Mavericks, and this seemed to help but as I installed software required to access internet at school (SafeConnect, AnyConnect VPN, Avast) my battery life has gone down again. Also, the battery drains when the computer is supposed to be in sleep mode. I have a new battery on board (127 cycles, my cycle count has increased a lot due to this battery drain issue). Does anyone have an idea of what could be the offending software and provide me potential alternatives?
Some numbers for reference: With Snow Leopard I have 3.5 hrs of battery life, and after my initial clean install I had 3.5 hrs of battery life (so no improvement, but no worse performance either..). Now I am lucky to make 2 hrs with a full charge.

  • 9800 Torch - Rapid Battery Drain

I've searched a bunch of forums and found that this is an old problem, but this has just started happening on my device within the last 2-3 weeks.  I have a Torch 9800 with 6.0.0 Bundle 2647.  When i look for an upgrade, the desktop software tells me that i have the latest version (ie..no upgrade available).
My Blackberry 6.0.0 System Software is pulling 100% of the CPU time.  I have deleted a few of the apps that i thought might be the culprit, and the problem goes away for a day or two, then boom, BSS 6.0.0 is pulling 100% again, and my battery drains quickly, and the phone acts sluggish, to the point it is almost useless.  I am at wits end, and although this appears to have been resolved in an older version of the OS, my OS seems to be up to date.
    Any ideas out there?

What OS are you on? On your device, type in a new message MYVER and a space after to see and report back please.
Try a Battery pull please, with the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery 15 seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot device. This will clear all cache like rebooting a PC. Then try again and see if your problem persists.

  • Rapid battery drain after turning on iCloud

Is it normal for iCloud to drain my battery so quickly? Since turning on iCloud for Calendars, my battery drained almost completely overnight, and went from 61% down to 36% in about 2 hours doing nothing other than sending one very short (2 words) iMessage. I'd like to use iCloud but keeping my iPhone plugged in constantly is not an option.

  • Firewire works great, but ipod battery drains?

I've been having lots of problems for a while with the error -36 situation. i finally decided to get the adaptec 1394 firewire card for notebooks and my problem has been solved. i am extremely happy about this.
however, i've noticed that since i've been connecting the ipod via firewire, the ipod's battery drains dramatically when connected. i had it over halfway charged, and after a couple of hours of being connected, it got completely drained. is this normal? thanks for any help.

I don't have a problem with the fact that it doesn't charge. i'm just wondering if it is normal that the battery drains so quickly. is it the constant transferring of data that makes the drain so fast?

  • No fixes have worked so far - please help!!!

I've been reading through various threads for the last week or so to help me fix itunes after trying to upgrade to v5 but i've not been successful. Here's what i've tried so far, so any more guidance would be appreciated:
I've not been able to do the step by step clean uninstall of itunes or quicktime provided in the DaGopha thread - when I right-click on the bin folder in the ipod folder in program files and then choose delete, I get the following message:
"Cannot delete iPodServiceLocalized.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is currently not in use."
When I right-click on the Quicktime folder in program files, I get the following message:
"Cannot delete QTTASK.EXE: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is currently not in use."
I then tried to use the windows installer cleanup tool but I cannot see itunes/ipod/quicktime in the list so have been unable to uninstall from there.
I tried installing 4.9 from one of the other threads anyway, but I get the message that a newer version of itunes is installed so it cannot continue. The itunes in the ipod program file shows as 4.8.0
I still have Quicktime on the computer but when i try to open it, I get the message "Quicktime failed to initialise. Error #2095. Please make sure Quicktime is properly installed on this computer."
I have tried to remove Quicktime via Add/Remove programs. When I click Change/Remove, I get the following message "The following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file. C:\WINDOWS\system32.QuickTime\Uninstall.log"
I also see "QuickTime for Windows (32-bit)" - does this need to be removed as well?
How do i completely uninstall itunes and quicktime and roll back to a previous version (preferably 4.8 as that's what i had, but 4.9 will probably do).
I know my problems aren't as severe as others as my ipod itself is still functioning ok as i haven't let it anywhere near my pc, but without itunes i can't add anything more to it. Any help would be appreciated as i'm going nuts!
    Thanks (hopefully!)

    Hi Amanda
Right, I'm going to try and pay back something that I owe cos these guys helped me fix mine. Mind you - it's taken me days and days! This is what Rachyl wrote (if you can find her threads, she's really good):
    "OK try this:
    1. Make sure you have that file called "mapi32.dll" found in your Windows/system 32 folder.
If you cant find it let me know, I can guide you through it.
Next, make sure All these are started: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Windows Management Instrument, and WMI Performance Adapter.
How to do this: Click on the Start Menu;Right Click on my computer and then choose manage in that menu. In the left hand panel click "services and applications" and double click services. Find those files and then click them and see if they say started and automatic.
Next: download QuickTime 7 stand alone. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
If you are running mcafee or nortons, disable your firewall, antivirus and all that. Then restart
Next: Download Bonjour for Windows. Heres the link: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Restart your computer. Remember if you have that anti virus crap, turn it off for the DL.
Next: Download apple itunes and restart, turning off all virus programs again. It should work from there. Good luck
Email me if you have probs and I will walk you through it.
    Rachyl" Dated 22.09.05 7.46pm
In conjunction with her advice and Da Gopha's, I got it to work, although I did not download Bonjour in the final routine. Follow Rachyl's instructions about checking the TCP/IP etc are all running, and all the way until it says download bonjour. At this point, DON'T do that. Try downloading iTunes 5.0.1 that was posted most recently on the apple site. Make sure you reboot between each download and turn off the antivirus and firewall.
Hope it works and makes sense! - if you are still having problems uninstalling, let me know. I delved around in all sorts of places to find strange files that I deleted!
    Good Luck!
    Alison

  • I have an unusual rapid battery drain under 50%

With all the talk of battery related issues I thought it would be easy to find one to fit my current problem. I could not find one so hopefully, this is not too much of repeat thread.
My one-year old iP5 has been updated to 7.0.3. It runs very well and is in excellent condition, never having been damaged from falls, water dunks or...anything else. The last few days when the battery meter gets below 50% I can literally watch the numbers drop. It went from 49% straight to 39%, immediately then dropping in 5% increments down to around 10%, when it dropped by 1% increments. And then it simply held at 1% for quite some time. I decided to try to "reboot" the phone but it would not restart because apparently they won't start up with just 1% power. I had not been using the phone heavily throughout the day and I am used to having 30-40% power at this time of day so...I really didn't believe the meter. I plugged the phone in and immediately it turned on and had 15% on the battery meter. I unplugged it and replugged it in and it showed 20% power. This didn't seem too unreasonable so I unplugged it and went about the rest of my evening. An hour or so after that it had dropped to 19%, which seemed ridiculous considering I had been using it quite a bit. Over 2 hours later when I was wrapping up my day it still had 19% power. So...I plugged it in and it had the usual 100% when I woke up this morning. This routine has actually occurred twice since updating to 7.0.3. I have not added any apps and nothing odd about my routine. My IT guy (it is a work phone) says he does not believe a clean install of the OS would solve this problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Yes, you should be able to do so if that is enabled by Vodafone.
Check your Options > Device > Wireless Updates.
Keep your device connected to a charger the entire time.
Do the backup FIRST, on your PC, using the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

  • After updating my 3gs to ios5 nothing works properly the phone is slow, no service, rapid battery drain, excessive heat when in use for longer periods of time, does not connect to vehicle stereo through usb, and screen is on but not responding to control

my 3gs battery dies rapidly and gives off excessive heat when in use no service anywhere, slow reponse time sometimes not at all like lights on but no one home, calls drop can text  no 3g can not connect to vehicle usb as a note i restored the phone from my back up

Same problems, unfortunatley I updated to 5.0 1 hour before going on holiday for three weeks and no way to restore my phone to try to remove it.At the same time, drop outs, range problems and the most annoying was my music and apps were corrupted and would not function properly :-(

  • HT204408 Same problem.  None of the "fixes" have worked.

    Same problem here ...

    Aloha...
I had the same problem. I think I've created at least a dozen new profanities in the process.
It turns out that when you try to open a PDF in the browser but get the download box, if you just click the Do this every time box and let it open in Acrobat, the PDF extension will be added to the list. [I should add that for some reason, 63 new tabs opened before I managed to shut down my computer.] When restarted and went back to the list, though, sure enough, the PDF extension was there. I changed the action to the Use this plug-in ==> Adobe Acrobat, and voila! the PDFs once again open in the browser.
I can't even tell you how many hours it took me to get here. I saw it in another forum (Firefox). Sorry, but I don't remember where it was.
Hope this helps you as well. Post back if I didn't explain it well enough...or if you, too, succeed. Maybe we should start a support group! ; )
