No fonts and icons in GNOME

Hi community!
I am new to Archlinux. After having used Ubuntu for a verly long time, I wanted to try another linux distribution that would suit my interests. I finally discovered Archlinux and I'd like to use it as my major operating system.
Unfortunately, I have some problems with it after the installation. The desktop environment I'd like to use is GNOME, so I installed the xorg-group, gnome and gnome-extra; made a xorg.conf-file with hwdetect, installed GDM and started a GNOME-session. The funny thing is, that GNOME doesn't display any fonts or icons. It looks weird. I can log in by typing my name and password blindly, it works, but the environment is completely without fonts.
I uploaded a screenshot so you can take a look at it. On the screenshot, I opened a terminal, the "run"-dialog and the GNOME-menu in the top left corner. [1]
At first, I thought it is because I didn't install any fonts such as Deja-Vu, so I installed them, even reinstalled xorg and GNOME, used fv-cache, but nothing has helped so far.
Perhaps you can help me with this problem. I don't know what to do now, since I still have to learn the linux materia.
[1]
Oh, you can also see on the screenshot the resolution isn't quite fine yet. I use a 1280x800 resolution, yet it is 1024x768. Where exactly do I have to change this in the xorg.conf-file?

Thanks for the advice!
My graphic card is also the Intel Extreme 965 and I've used the "intel"-driver in xorg.conf. I think I installed the xf86-video-intel-package during the installation, but I'm not sure whether the testing-repository was used. I bet if I just install the package using pacman, the older one will be installed? Do I have to manually "activate" the testing-repository for this package?
attila, I'll try your hint next time. Thanks all of you for your support.

  • Font and Icon size are too small on windows 8.1 computer.

I have a windows 8.1 computer with a 64 bit operating system with the most up to date version of Adobe CS6 and a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.  When I open CS6 the font and icons are minescule and I cannot fix it by adjusting the screen resolution.  Is there a way to correct this?

Have you tried setting the resolution to 1366 x 768?
I know it defeats the purpose of having a HiDpi screen, but Photoshop CS6 was released when such displays were not common.
Photoshop  CC 2014 has an experimental 200% UI scale for such PCs, but it is a $10 a month subscription to the Photography Plan. You can trial it out to see if you can use it.

  • Is adjustment to increase font and icon size possible

I just loaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and find at startup the fonts and icons are so tiny they are nearly impossible for me to see.  Is there someway to increase the size of the screen image?

you can increase the system's font and dpi size. Just go to Control Panel and then Display.
There if you increase the dpi settings ,Organizer will respond accordingly. Also ,
this is applicable just for Windows. However , on high dpi you will some layout issues ( known issue). Let me know if you  require any help.

Is there a way to make the text and icons bigger in the interface? Thanks!

    Hello
    Your config works as ours.
The symbols and icons in the ToolBar are small.
Are they too small, I don't know, I am not a pro of Graphical Interface.
There is no way to change that at the user level.
The only available tip is the one given: go to Universal Access and set a zoom factor matching your needs.

  • System Default Fonts and Icons

How can I change the font for pcmanfm, firefox, and other programs, pretty much the system default font? Also, does anyone know what font this is: http://supersonicdarky.deviantart.com/a … loggedin=1
Also how can I change the icon theme in pcmanfm?
    Thanks

    ~ % cat .gtkrc
    gtk-font-name = "Bitstream Vera Sans 10"

    Use

  • HELP! Need the toolboxes bigger! Font and icon sizes.

Is there any way to increase the size of the icons/toolbox font sizes??? changing monitor settings don't effect Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

Thank you. I just tried to find the default dpi and only found 'percentage increase' - which makes icons fuzzy and unclear. Do you know where to find the default dpi?
I absolutely appreciate the help, Friend!

No. This stuff is hard-coded. Check your Windows default DPI setting if they appear excessively small. resetting it to the default 96 DPI often fixes the issue.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 with UHD (4k) Monitor - Very small Fonts and Icons

    Hello,
I´m using Photoshop Elements 12 under Windows 8.1 64bit with a Sapphire Radeon X9 R290 4GB-Graphics Card. Since a couple of days with a new Dell UP2414Q, UHD (4k) Monitor, max. Resolution 3840x2160 Pixel.
After connecting this device and using max. Resolution, most Fonts appear so small, that it is almost impossible to read.
Dell delivers a Display Manager-Software that allows to scale Fonts. Most Windows Apps are using this. Font Size is already set to 200%.
Unfortunatelly Organizer and Photoshop ignore this and text remains very small within these programs.
Activating "Bearbeiten / Voreinstellungen / Allgemein / Systemschrift verwenden" did not help.
Deinstallation (and deleting user-Settings) with Reinstalling also did not help.
(I added a screenshot here, but it does not show the truth... In reality all Fonts are about half the size.)
How can I get larger Fonts?
I´m really looking Forward to an answer.
    Regards.

  • Font and icons are too small in workspace

I've used photoshop elements 10 ad it's worked fine on my other computers. I just purchased a new computer, same size monitor and I can barely read the font or text on it. I have 20/20 vision but the workspace is so small on this computer. I've tried changing the resolution on my screens and it's not changing photoshops screen at all. I'm not sure why it is a great size on my past computers and this updated computer it's not showing properly ? Any suggestions I can not use the program any longer with the changed sizing.
    Thanks

make sure that you are using the minimum resolution as 1024x768.
Also, check the DPI should be 100% (refer the below link so adjust DPI)

  • Font and text on iphone

i have problem with font on menu of iphone they're too small i didn't see that well i try to sent big font in large text but in menu text wasn't larger for zoom in accessibility it was totally hard to use is that any app make font  larger

Actually, the font and icons are too large that it's almost impossible to navigate - the slide to power off the device is beyond the window size. The only other way to power off is to hold the home and power button in combination. This will power off the device and reset but does not really solve, as this problem has occurred a half dozen times. I've checked and re-checked the font settings and they set to the smallest font size.

Click on the text in the menu so that you see the bounding box around it. Look to the right of the Movie Menu customization workspace, Adjustments Palette, Text and edit your text font style and size.
In this screenshot, "Glass Flowers" text in the main menu is selected and its Adjustments Palette Text editing opportunities are shown. To do comparable editing in the scene menu, click on the scene menu in the bin to bring its image up to the screen.

  • Photoshop CS6 Menus and Icons too small on Windows 8.1 with 4K UHD display

    Hello,
So I have seen that I am not the first one to ask this question, but I have yet to find any true resolutions.  I recently bought anew laptop, a Lenovo with a 4K UHD display which I already love for so many things.  But, like a few other programs, the high resolution means the icons and menu text of PS CS6 are incredibly small, which may be alright on a TV, but on a laptop screen, it make it incredibly difficult to work.  I have tried all sorts of different approaches in Windows, such as changing the OS font sizes and icon sizes, which do indeed change everything else on the computer, but PS is still the same tiny size.  I have also increased the text size under the interface preferences to large, but with little real change.  I understand why this is happening, but I am hoping that there is some sort of workaround, beyond just bumping down my screen resolution, which defeats the whole purpose of using UHD to edit photos.  I have heard rumors of being able to code in some UI changes manually, but have found no concrete examples of how to actually do that.
I am sure that it would not take Adobe too much time and effort to create an update to help with scaling, but they are very set on pushing forward with Creative Clound, leaving the rest of us loyal customers to the dust until we pay up.  If anyone has found any resolutions or workarounds, I'd really appreciate it.  Thank you.

Well other than that, I can't offer anything else as a forum volunteer. I have no idea if anything, what Adobe plans to do for CS6.
I do know that Photoshop CC 2014 has a 200% ui feature for Windows and you might like the Photography Plan which for $10 monthly includes Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom for $10/month.
You can trial CC 2014 to see if it does solve your situation

    Hi,
I am using your software: CS6 InDesign Suiteon a PC using a Windows 7 operating system.
Due to eyesight issues, I need to have the menu bars of programs in easy-to-read font and picture size.  Specifically, the menu bar across the top (File, Edit, View, etc.), and the menu bar on the left side with the graphic depiction of options.
In earlier versions of Windows (e.g. XP), whenever I changed the screen resolution on my computer to a lesser resolution in order to show the link icons on my desktop in a larger, more readable size, all the software programs, including yours, appeared on my screen with the menu bars in the larger font size that I needed.
However, in Windows 7, this is not the case.  Even though I have selected the lowest resolution, making the icons on my desktop extremely large, I cannot read the options across the top menu bar of your program, nor the pull-down menu items that they contain.  I cannot see the graphic depictions of options on the left side of the screen. They are all too small.  How can I make your program increase the size?

CS6 is not high-DPI compatible/ enabled and that can't be changed. If you cannot6 make it work with your operating system means, then short of joining Creative Cloud and using newer versions there is nothing you can do.
