Hello sicd,
you can delete the following files after closing Pages:
1) <YourHD>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork06.plist
2) <YourHD>/Users/<YourAccount>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and if you have problems in Keynote (please check this), too:
2) <YourHD>/Users/<YourAccount>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
Do you know what you have done before this error happened? Or did this error occured by your first use of Pages? I think you have no problem with other apps, right?

    go to Font
choose desired size and type font, you can choose to make this the default.
    Do this with each field.

  • How does photoshop position fonts in paragraph text boxes?

I am trying to understand how photoshop places the baseline in a paragraph box.
I have a number of custom fonts, when typing in a paragraph text box some of these fonts appear to cross over the bounding box of the paragraph text.
I've looked at the font dimensions, ascender, descender, baseline and x-height and cannot find a common theme that photoshop appears to use.
Its starting to make my head hurt, so please if anybody knows what calculations photoshop uses to place fonts please let me know!
    Thanks

InDesign is best for larger amounts of text like full paragraphs, but I use PS all the time for text in ads where text is fairly minimal but infinite visual placement is critical. Then I find staying in PS most convenient. Once you learn the (IMO non-intuitive) text formatting controls, infinite adjustment and placement is possible.
Text boxes in PS, however, are IMO problematic regardless of font. If one must use PS rather than InD, when possible it is best to simply type text and format using returns, etc.

  • Why do fonts appear fuzzy in Pages 2?

I have found when using Pages 2, the print or fonts are kind of fuzzy on the screen and can be difficult to read. Is there a way to make the print on the screen more clear or focused? I do not have this problem using other applications such as Word on my iBook. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welocome to Pages discussions.
You do not say whether Pages 2 is your first introduction to Pages, or whether you have installed it following Pages 1. But in either case, the first thing to check is under the Apple ikon at the top left hand side of any Apple menu.
Open it and choose System Preferences. From that choose "Appearance" from the top left panel of the choice box you will see: it will be categorised as "personal." When you open this, you will find a box full of choices. The ones you need to check are at the bottom of this screen. They are "font smoothing style" and "Turn off font smoothing for font sizes ...". It is possible that the defaults for these may have been lost in the course of your installation, or that programs you have previously used have not required this system-wide preference. In the first of these panels, choose the option that best describes your primary display. The second is more a matter of judgement, and your particular use of Pages. However, it is not overly critical. You can choose a setting a few points below your customary body text, and the rest will look after itself. I use about 12 pt for the body text of most of my work, and find that setting this to 8 pts looks after the rest, up or down.
In the absence of any more serious problem, or something unique to your set-up, this should set you right, On the other hand, should you have known about, and already tried this, you may have to await further answers or else contact Apple support.
Then again, I do recall from 14 years' hassle with Windows that the usual cop-out from its text-presentation shortcomings was to represent text as images. It slowed up the system, but it sort of worked in its fashion. Pages does not rely on this, but refers to the system-wide settings.
However this resolves for you, you should retain your insistance that text in Pages 2 should look spot on. So long as things are set up right, there is simply no other really approachable program that can represent text any better.
So sorry if you knew the above already. But if it doesn't work you have something that needs resolving. You are right to expect complete clarity, both on screen and in print, and will need to pursue this matter if you cannot resolve it yourself, or through the contributors to this forum.
    Regards.

  • Files (fonts) appear as Unix files when viewing on an SMB share

We have a UNIX server running Linux which our Mac users are connecting via SMB.  We moved our company fonts to this server from an OSX Server.  All of our machines are running 10.6.6 or later.  Very intermittantly without any rhyne or reason some users when they mount the Font share, the Fonts show up as Unix files rather than the Fonts.  On my machine (10.7) they all appear normally.  Now I know that SMB was revamped in Lion so this may be the reason I can see them no problem.  But the 10.6 machines, any suggestions on fixing this?

Any solution on this issue? I have nearly the same exact issue in my environment, but is reversed.
The problem we have is when saving files to the server from the Snow Leopard machine, the older Tiger machines see the fonts as unix executable files. The snow leopard machine sees the files fine and can open everything with no problem.
This only happens when saving to a SMB server, as I can save the files from Snow Leopard to a flash drive and open on Tiger with no problems. Additionaly files saved from Tiger to the server are perfectly fine when accessing from Tiger or Snow Leopard.
We're running Windows 2008 Server and connecting via the macs using the SMB method. Also duplicated the issue on a Windows 2003 Server.

  • Keynote PDF output: fonts appear "bold", milky background

    Hello,
we observed two problems when exporting a Keynote presentation into PDF ("export" and "print" exhibit the same behaviour):
    (1) when opening the PDF in Preview, the medium-size fonts appear to be "bolder" than in the presentation, small fonts look OK. We have tried several fonts (e.g. Trebuchet), the effect seems to be independent of the font. Colors look exactly as in the presentation.
    (2) when opening the same PDF in Acrobat 8 Pro on either Mac or PC, the fonts look OK but all colours look as if through a "milky glass layer". This is an effect which is probably related to some color space conversion.
A similar topic was discussed last November, but no satisfying solution was presented. Many thanks in advance for any help with this.

It doesn't seem to matter what the Registry/Ordering is - I still get the error. I do recall that setting it to something known like Adobe and Japan1 had other effects, though, such as incorrectly chosen glyphs, though those could have been related to other issues we had at the time.
Since any value seems to prompt the issue, it leaves me even more confused as to what could be the root of this problem. Distiller seems to bypass embedding CMaps by using the "Identity" encoding and simply writing the glyph indeces into the text stream. Does Preflight just not like embedded CMaps?
I have uploaded a sample document to acrobat.com if anyone wants to take a look. It has several changes from the original description, in an attempt to root out the problem. Here is the URL:
    https://share.acrobat.com/adc/document.do?docid=4284cd55-d710-411f-8a91-51359564a78b
    Thanks again for any help.

  • How to change the font size of Text box tool ?

How to change the font size of Text box tool ?
I am using Acrobat PDF 6.0
Tools > Advanced Commenting > Text Box Tool
I need to know how to change the font size. The default font size is too big.
    let me know
    Thanks

I do not have AA6 available right now (I can check at home this evening). I am also using AA Pro, not Std. In AA7, there is a text box tool that is a commenting tool. When I started typing, a properties toolbar came up that had the font size and such. I haven't figured out how to get the toolbar after the fact. In AA8, I selected the text box tool and then went to view and selected the properties bar (the font size and all showed then), or use Ctrl-E when editing the text. I have not been able to figure out how to edit the text in a text box after you have created it - think it is a mental block right now. Bill

Apple Mail uses Apple's own PDF viewer, and it's ... well, let's be friendly and say not really up to par. Don't use it for anything else than ascertaining there is *something* in your mail. Then use the free Adobe Reader to view your PDF.

Use the text touchup tool, select the text, and right click to change the properties. If you mean a different type of text box, then look for the same type of changes, but use the same tool you used to create the text.

    Hi
We're experiencing a strange problem in a flash swf object embedded on an aspx page in a .net web application.

    Adobe Flash Player  :  10.0.42.34
    Browesers : IE 6 , 7  Firefox 3.5
    Client machine configuration :
         Windows XP SP3
         East Asian Language Pack installed.
         Flash player version 10.0.42.34 installed.
We're displaying Japanese text on the page through the flash player.
What happens is that randomly on some client machines the Japanese fonts appear too large in size while on others
    they appear perfectly fine.
We also have English , Honkkong and Chinese  versions of the page ..all of which work perfectly fine across all client machines.
The issue is only with the Japanese version.
Any pointers on this guys .... ?
    Please help !!!!

We initially encountered this on the version prior to the 10.0.42.34 version.

  • PDFs from CS3, ligatures not showing up on editor's PC, fonts appearance changed

Hi there. I just redesigned a magazine using the Hypatia Sans family, Avenir family and Arno Pro family. Avenir is the one font I have been using. With both Hypatia and Arno, the ligatures totally drop out of the pdf when viewed on a PC. And, when the editor made the edits in the "comment-able" pdf and sent it back to me, really none of the fonts appear right. Nothing looks like Hypatia or Arno or Avenir. The font flow seems to stay put, but that is about it.
I'm trying to pinpoint this a little tighter. But while I'm doing that, I wanted to put this out here on the discussion boards. Since this is an entire magazine, it's not going to be acceptable to proof it this way. I don't know if I can send a pdf to someone at Adobe to look at and see what they think is happening? I'm not finding much on the boards about this either so I don't know if it's a widespread issue or not.

    Follow up ...
Kellie and I discussed and problem and then she checked with the editor.
In fact, the editor was putting PDF comments on the InDesign-exported PDF file using MacOS Preview and then saving the file and returning it via e-mail to Kellie. MacOS Preview converted all of the text from Arno Pro, Avenir and Hypatia Sans to MacOS versions of Multiple Master Helvetica and Multiple Master Times fonts which clearly did not have all the glyphs of the original fonts.
The editor was advised to download and install the free Adobe Reader and guess what? The problem went away.
    Problem solved!
Sorry folks, but there is absolutely nothing that Adobe can do about this problem other than to continue to advise our customers to avoid PDF reader software that simply doesn't implement or doesn't properly implement the full PDF specification. (Note that this specification is an ISO standard now, not something that is secret or Adobe-proprietary in any way!)

  • Why do fonts appear in Keynote, but not in Font Folder?

I made a misguided move in adding fonts through Font Book and am trying to restore my fonts to a previous iteration.  Strangely though, the fonts appear in Keynote, but not in the usual Fonts folders.  Can anyone shed light on why this might be the case?  More information can be found, under the Mavericks discussion forum, here.

    Suzanne,
As is my guess, there is now something wrong with those fonts. There are utilities, that can possibly repair them - two mentioned in the article. If you have a backup of the fonts, from when they worked, perhaps just going to that, and reinstalling them will solve the issue. I'd hate to think that they might have to be acquired all over again, but that might be "plan D."
Periodically, I will copy all of my fonts to DVD (now - used to be CD), just to have them available for new computers, or OS's. Over the decades, I have lost a few to corruption, that could not be repaired. In several cases, I had an older BU, that did work, but have had to buy a few again. Just checked on my workstation, and I've got 19,362, though seldom more than about 350 ever installed at one time.
This reminds me that it's about time to do another BU, as I will be getting a new workstation and laptop fairly soon, and will need to transfer my fonts to them.
Good luck, and hope that things can be saved - I hate to loose a favorite font.

I just installed Illustrator, and do not see the font samples in menu box. Can you tell me how to get them to show?
    Thank you.

    Sue,
I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
