No Free Remote Controls

Why has Verizon changed their policies on free remote controls? In addition to paying for cable fees, I pay $38 per month for renting FIOS equipment that is 6 years old. They want another $15 for replacing one remote control. This is highway robbery.

Amen dmart.
I called, fully expecting a no hassle customer service experience.  It isn't the $15, it is the fact that after spending $3,000 a year for 10 years the CSR is amazed that I think they should replace their broken equipment for free.
Verizon hates its customers.  They can, because Comcast hates us too.
As bad as politicians and just as corrupt.

  • Free remote control\observe software on 10.6.8 iMacs

    Hi,
Does anybody know of any free software similar to Lanschool?
I have a teacher that wants to be able to view\control, etc. a class of iMacs.
    Cheers

You can setup a VNC server in Mac OS 10.6
    http://www.dssw.co.uk/blog/2010/08/13/setting-up-the-vnc-server-in-mac-os-x-10-6 /
Once the server is setup on each iMacs, you will need a VNC client to access them
Like Chicken of the VNC (silly name but it works great)
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
You can also use a server and a viewer called Vine from Test plant
    http://www.testplant.com/products/vine/vine-server/

  • I am a newer about LabVIEW.How can I realize a remote control in a Web brower.

"To transform your application into a remote laboratory, make sure the VI that you want to publish is loaded into LabVIEW memory. Next, select the Web Publishing Tool option from the Tools menu. This window is the main window for interactively creating and publishing your remote laboratory
The Web publishing tool will automatically load in the Document Title and VI Name text fields. As the sample image in Figure 6 illustrates, the Document Title, Text 1, and Text 2 are all text fields that you can use to customize the Web page created with the publishing tool.
The second step necessary to enable a remote laboratory is to select the Start Web Server button. When pressed, this button activates the built-in LabVIEW Web server, which will publish and control your front panel images from the Internet.
Once the Web server is activated, the actual HTML document needs to be created and saved so it can be accessed remotely. Clicking on Save to Disk places an HTML file called Document Title.htm into the LabVIEW file folder called WWW by default. Saving your Remote Panels HTML documents into this folder will ensure that the LabVIEW Web server can find them. Either keep the default name, or assign a new name and save the file. Once saved, a new panel entitled Document URL pops up with a message box containing the URL address of your enabled LabVIEW application.
Click on OK in the Document URL window and then click on Done in the Web Publishing Tool window. Your lab is now ready for remote visitors
    Required Software
To operate a LabVIEW program using remote panels, it is necessary to have the free LabVIEW run-time engine installed on the client computer. When a remote viewer logs onto the lab with the appropriate URL address, the LabVIEW front panel will appear in the browser, or reroute the user to install the run-time engine from the National Instruments Web site.
    Application Control
Once connected to the remote laboratory, the client connection will automatically be in a monitor state. If another client is controlling the remote laboratory, the user will be able to monitor the actions of the controlling client. To request control of the program, right click on the front panel and select Request Control. Once selected, one of two possible messages will appear. Either the user will be granted control (Control Granted), or the user will see a message indicating that control is currently granted to another user (Waiting for control: Either the server is locked or another client has control). If another client has control, the controlling client will be notified that control time has now become limited. Once the timeout occurs or the controlling client has released control, application control is automatically switched to the requesting client (Control Granted). Once the user has been granted control, all icons and controls will become active and running the LabVIEW application is exactly like running the application from the local environment.
    Releasing Control
When the remote viewer either moves on to a different URL address or relinquishes control by right clicking and selecting (Release Control), or when the remote laboratory times out, the remote laboratory is available to the next visitor."
The above is what I read from a text of ni.com,
but I can not obtain the result.
    Thanks a lot!
    ^^

    Hi
I don't see which LV version you are using. It's important to know, that you need the FDS or PDS package of LV 6.1 to work with remote control. This feature is not supported in the LV base package of LV 6.1.
If you have LV 6.1 FDS or PDS, which of the described steps are not working?

  • Creative Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX: How can I find a new remote control & spare satellite(s)?

    Hi all,
For years, we have owned and used one remarkable speaker set from Creative:
The Creative Megaworks (Cambridge Soundworks) 250D 2.1 THX-certified speakers!
I have no complaints. The sound this small 2.1 set produces is amazing! The 300 watts (RMS) power can shake the whole house - x50W + 2x75W are more than enough! Movies, music, games, everything sounds great - bass is deep and clear, mid-range is good, high frequences are clear! There's no noise and no distortion (I have connected the system to an SPDIF digital connector on my sound card), the Signal-to-Noise ratio is 99 dB, and the frequency response of the set is extremely good, too!
But I have a problem, now. We have broken, by accident, one of the satellites. Now I have only one satellite, and the bass/amplifier with the remote control... Looks like a . system... ;-)
This system was a present for us. Maybe we were lucky, but I am very happy with the build quality of this Creative spaker set. Until we have broken one of the satellites ourselves, yesterday, everything was OK, and the sound it produced was amazing all these years...
I tried to contact a Creative representative, asking if we can maybe order one (or two) spare satellites fot this set, but the only reply (up to now) was:
"You are out of warranty period. Buy a new speaker set."
    Well, we could, I guess...
    But:
First: Creative does not have (at present) a similar model, 2.1, THX certified, with digital (SPDIF input), 300W+ RMS, 99 dB Signal-to-Noise.
Second, to throw away such an amazing set just because there's one satellite broken? That would be such pity! :-(
I'd like to buy one (or two) new 250D satellites. I was thinking even that, in the worst case, I can maybe try to order 2 satellites from a Creative Gigaworks S750 set. They have very similar characteristics, 70W rms power, 8 ohms, so maybe this'll work. I was trying to check today if two satellites can be ordered, but with no luck up to now... :-(
Does anyone have any similar experience? What do you do if you accidentally have broken up one satellite from a 2./5./7. expensi've speaker set? Should you throw away the whole set? Try to find similar satellites?
I hope Creative support will help, but I don't have much hope, at present...
Does anyone have experience connecting an S750 satellite to a 250D system? Can I expect any problems? Or it'll work?
    Finally, just one more question:
    The remote control.
Currently, the remote control unit on our 250D model works OK. But I am a bit worried, if anything happens, that the speaker set can become useless. So I'd like to order one spare new remote control for this model, just in case. Can someone help?
Maybe, even if this speaker set is not produced anymore, a new remote control can be ordered from Creative?
I'd really like to make these 250D speakers produce great sound again!? I am a big Creative fan and Creative 250D 2.1 THX is one of the best sound systems I have ever owned (or heard) and I'd like to do everyting to fix things up...
    Thanks for all the help!
    Cheers! :-)
PS The satellites of the 250D look very much like these. But these Cambridge Soundworks satellites are more powerful (20W RMS); I was even thinking to order a pair of them, but not sure if they'll fit well. Maybe a pair of S750 satellites (70W RMS) is a better idea? But in any case, if I can find a new pair of satellites, what to do with the remote control?... Please, help!

After exchanging several messages with official Creative Support, I feel a bit disappointed... For years, I have believed that Creative is a company that makes amazing audio products. They probably still do, but now that I am a customer who owns an expensive product of theirs, but with expired warranty, they don't want even to suggest a solution that can work for both parties!
Why is Creative Support so un-supportive? :-( I am still a Creative customer, after all, right?
My communication with Support went nowhere. After it was established that our 250D system is out of warranty period (it is only 2 years, btw), they refused to sell me a replacement satellite (even if they still may have some left in stock, for such cases)!
Finally, I found S700 satellites on ebay and I hope that 2 of them will fit well with the 250D system. Impedance of 250D satellites is 8 ohms (S700 satellites are 8 ohms, too), power is almost the same (250D satellites are 75W rms, and S700 are 70W rms), Signal-to-Noise of both systems is 99 dB, and frequency response is similar, too (250D satellites should be around 50Hz - 8 kHz, I think, and S700 should be around 50Hz - 20 kHz).
Well, my final 'point of worry' was that if anything happens with the remote control, we won't be able to switch on/off the system, even if the sub/amplifier works. So, I tried to ask Support just to sell me one new remote control, if they can. To sell, not to give for free, mind this! ;-)
    They refused!
My e-mails are either left un-answered, or the only kind of reply I get is 'We can offer you 10% off our new products'. Well, I don't want to buy a whole new expensi've system, if I can just get 1-2 replacement parts for my old one, and have it working for years! :-)
(Imagine you buy an expensive DSLR camera, you break the LCD screen, and imagine how Canon or Nikon refuse to sell you a replacement LCD, because you're out of warranty! I can't imagine that!)
Well, with Creative it looks like this works only this way: Buy a new system. While speaker system is within its warranty period, Creative may replace defecti've and/or broken parts. Once system is out of warranty period, you can simply throw the system away, as Creative will not sell you replacement parts, no matter how politely you ask (and no matter if such parts are available at Creative or not)!
I hope I will be able to use our 250D system for some more time (after the satellites arrive). I don't know how I can find a new remote control, just to be on the safe side.
And I am not sure I will buy Creative product next time. I will carefully look around and maybe will pick up a product from a company which will offer me not only warranty support, but out-of-warranty support, too. That would be wise.
I like how the high-end Creative speaker systems sound. I simply cannot understand how this company can be successful, if they make such great products, but then refuse to help its customers, when they have problems... :-(

  • Looking for remote control App (iPhone) to use with iMovie

I just got a Macbook Air, and my infrared Apple remote control doesn't work with it.
I wanted to be able to do presentations (in this case using iMovie) and be able to have a remote so that I could pause, go back, fast forward, i.e. the usual things a remote does.
There probably is a good App that I can install on my iPhone that will let me use my iPhone as a remote control, but I don't know which one. Any suggestions????  Ideally, it would be a bluetooth program (although Wi-Fi would work too) that would also work with other programs, like Keynote.
    Thanks!
    Dan

Well, I don't know much about this, but if you need to control the actual system in some way, you are going to need to use JNI (Java Native Interface), which is essentially embedding C/C++ code in your java app, which doesn't lend well to platform-independence. I too develop on a Mac, and there is a mailing list for Java related issues on the Mac. You can check it out at: http://developer.apple.com/java/
If you sign up for ADC (Apple Developer Connection, it's free), you can have access to these mailing lists. They've been quite helpful to me in the past. I don't mean to slam the forums here, but you are looking for a Mac specific solution, and you'd probably get more specific information on this mailing list. Hope this helps!!

  • Confilicts with XP "Remote Desktop" and ZFD4 "Remote Control"

He have a similar problem like this. Some machines, after installing Zen4
agent, after first login, the WS reboot automatically every time.
He have discovered a conflit with display adapter ( Intel eXtreme graphics
    2 ).
Resolution: With workstation at CTRL+ALT+DEL or password prompt, access
the registry of this machine with a remote admin WS. At the
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run commands, find startup
tools from the display adapter, like HotKeysCmds -> C:\Windows\System32
\hkcmd.exe and remove them from registry.
Logon at the WS and if it run fine, reinstall the display adapter.
    I hope this help you.

Microsoft offers a free program called Remote Desktop Connection so you can do just that.

  • Odd Remote control behavior

I have remote control enabled through a workstation policy associated to the Workstation container. I do not have an active user policy with remote control enabled or associated to any users.
But, It seems we can remote control into a workstation through a user's name in Console One and it overides any restrictions we had put on the policy withing the workstation policy. We are able to remote right into a user with no prompt. If we remote control into a workstation it prompts like it should.
    Im kinda confused here.

I too have this exact same issue.  The play, stop, forward, reverse buttons don't do anything, and also the sound buttons, they activate the volume window but not adjustment of the volume happens. The only buttons that work are the opening of applications and the power button. All this happened after I installed some free updating software for some other paid and free applications I have (Advanced SystemCare Professional), all quite legitiment, as a result there were corrupt icons and I had to uninstall the offending software and some corrupted software including Microsoft Office beta and reinstall... no viruses were found on a full Zonealarm scan.  I have the DV6-2113TX on Win-7.  If ANYONE has a clue how to fix the full functionality of the remote, please let me know as it's really niggling me that it just doesn't work even after reinstalling the drivers for the IR etc.
I tried contacting HP online and I get NO replies.  I am yet to phone.  It is still under warranty with 20 months left (8 months manufacturer, 12 months supplier).

  • N80IE Problem with Nokia Remote Control Headset AD...

Guys,do you have this AD-41 Remote Control Headphone, found in N73 Music Edition Phones,on your N80? My problem is that, I cant remotely play a song by simply pressing the PLAY Button on it... But before I bought this headset for my N80 I check first the Nokia web site, its says that it is COMPATIBLE... Is there something missing? Like, do I need to install a certain app so that it would work? Or, Its just like, I can't do it in N80?

Hi, Ryan. Look, I have now an N73; but before I had an N80 and guess what: I had the same problem as you. I sent an e-mail to Nokia, and what did they say in the e-mail they sent back? "The compatibility between your device and your hands-free is PARTIAL, sir.". What the **bleep**?!!... Yes, it's not fully compatible. You don't need any software or setup in the phone... You (and I) need light the Nokia's offices on fire...

  • TV Remote Control

I'v been a loyal customer since 2011. I've payed probably over $1000 in equipment rental fees alone. And you want to charge me $15 to replace a 4-year old worn out remote?
    That seems ludicrous.

Your right. It sucks that they need to sell what they use to give away for free. Things like this

can make it hard hard for for the people that dont take advantage.  At least you know where you can get one cheaper!

  • Bluetooth Remote Control Quit Working

I have a new 8350i and downloaded the new 5.0.0.807 (?) version software. For some reason, after doing this, the ability of my Plantronics Voyager 815 headset to perform remote controls (answer, hang up, volume, etc) has quit working. Has anyone else had this happen to them? What can I do to correct this? Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I thought I'd lost my mind with this phone.  I too updated my phone with the latest software and now I am having all kinds of bluetooth problems, I have the problem with the remote controls on my headset not working.  I have a problem where if I put the phone in the case while talking to someone it hangs up even though I have it set to NEVER do that.  The phone also is having major pairing issues with the two cars hands free radios I have, once the phone is paired to the radio, I can no longer listen to the car radio, I have to drive in silence, so I go back to the headset, which I cannot answer calls or hang up calls with.  I have pulled the battery, but that is only a temporary fix, it starts misbehaving within a day or two, tops.
I used to love this phone, now I am nothing but frustrated with it.
If anyone hears of a solution that works for more than a day, please post what you did.
    Thank You

  • Remote Control Best Practices

Hello. I am new to the world of Mac. I have a bunch of Windows XP machines at home but just bought a MacBook White for my daughter for college. I would like to be able to provide tech support while she is away so I have to find a remote control solution that will do the trick.
I will not have a Mac at the house (at least not right away) so I am hoping to find something that will allow me to access her Mac over the Internet using a Windows-based client.
So I have two basic questions:
    1) What is my best solution for this? I read that VNC might work but is that the best solution? If so, is there a VNC Host already embedded in the MAC OS or do I have to find one (and where)?
    2) If I end up getting a MacBook Air, what Apple-based solution is best? ARD? WHat would I have to install/purchase on both the MacBook and the Air?
Thanks for your suggestions and patience with a Windows guy who appreciates Mac.
    -Rick

I have been very successful using TeamViewer from Mac to Mac, Mac to Windows and some Windows to Mac. It's free to use within limits: you have to buy it if you're using it professionally, but for what you're talking about, it's free. http://teamviewer.com
If you've tried it before, download it again, because they just released the 4.0 version the other day. I've gotten through many firewalls with it, and even some dual NAT situations.
If you get a Mac, you can also use the screen sharing function of iChat, but I find it to be a lot less reliable than TeamViewer, expecially through corporate firewalls.

  • How to use the remote control in MediaSource Audio Play

    Hello,
I bought myself the Creative X-Fi Elite Pro.
I found out that I only can use the remote control in Media Center of the software.
Now I want to use it in the Creative Audio Player whicht was also in the Box.
    Is there a way?

Yes there is. I suggest trolling these boards for the 3rd party remote solutions that will free you to use the remote in ANY application like Winamp, Notepad, Windows Media Player, etc.
    Just my two opinionated cents...

  • I dont' get why remote control is so importand with scripts

I've got my dvd working, but i just don't get why the remote control menu so important is.
    the situation i'm having is:
I've got an play all button (when it is hit it gets the value 1)
when you push the menu button on the remote, the pre-script gets rid of the value 1 and turns it in to value 0
with value 0 you can look at a track and after that it goes back to the menu, value 1 makes sure that after track 1, track 2 is being played.
But when someone is playing the 'play all' (value 1) and hits the menu button for a pauze and hits it again to play where he was. you get the value 0.
When you say in the inspector under remote control -> menu -> menu1:button1 he stays with the value 1. although you have been in de menu..
Hope someone can give me a answer.

It all depends on how you access the menu. Pre-scripts are good in lots of situations, but can be bypassed in others. If you have read the article over at
    http://www.editorsbin.com/authoring/playall.html
towards the bottom I discuss several different scenarios where the play all could get interrupted and you need to think about how you will get around it. Your specific situation is one such issue, and the way around it is to use button values instead of setting values in menu prescripts. You should also try using 'free-standing' scripts - i.e. scripts that are not prescripts, but which do the same job and then send the viewer on to the appropriate menu. By pointing to these you can ensure the value is retained under differetn circumstances each time, and make sure the viewer returns safely back to the 'play all' option they were taking a break from.
None of this is particularly easy, but it is at least logical! With care you should be able to script a play all from different tracks using any number of menus. If you need a hand with those scripts, let me know.
Alternatively, have a look here at my blog where I show a different way to achieve the scripted solution.

  • VMM 2013 R2 Manager - Remote Control issue

    Hello Everyone,
Looks like Im having a remote control to the VMM server issue. Everytime I try to connect to console of the VM machine, I get this error:
"An authentication error has occurred Code: 0x80004005" Remote computer: servername.mydomain.com"
The VMM server has been added to our domain and I'm logged in as the Domain Admin. Is there a permissions group I might be missing or is it something else?
    Please Let me know
    Thank you
    Devon

The 'first' VMM administrator is the domain user account of the logged on user that installed VMM.
If the domain admin performed the install of VMM, then they would be the first administrator by default.  If someone else did, than that user is the first administrator and they have to add the domain admin as an SCVMM administrator within SCVMM.
Also, you cannot move an SCVMM server from one domain to another.  You will end up with broken security.  You have to re-install SCVMM.
