  • Portal can not work with abnormal increased /usr/sap/SID file space

    hi experts,
    I got a problem today on our HR portal.
    At first I can't login the nwa, then I checked tha OS of portal, I saw that the file system /usr/sap/SID's used spaces increase very quickly, though I increase the free spaces for emergency use, the portal still can not work and the free space is still missing. I just solved by restart the SAP service.
    Did anyone face the same problems before?
    System information
    OS --> AIX v5.3
    Database --> Oracle 10.2.0.2
    SAP --> netweaver 2004s SP12.

    Hi,
    This happens when your archive log file of the application increases,
    Check the folder usr/sap/sid/instance/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/archive folder this is the reason for your disk space increase. Just take a backup and delete the files in the archive folder (except temp folder).
    The deletion of older archive files is not handeled by SAP, you have to manually delete the archive logs.
    Regards,
    Vamshi.

  • Reaching free space with SAP DB on Windows

    Hi!
    I am using SOLMAN with SAP DB on Windows and (funnily enough) reaching the free space on my computer (no arching mode is activated).
    Can some one tell me how to proceed in this case (can I put away the log files or the data files that are not being used). How can I extend the free space without much effort?
    Is there some useful transactions (like db02 in oracle) to manage the SAP DB?
    Thank you!
    regards

    Hello Axel,
    -> You wrote:
    "can I put away the log files or the data files that are not being used"
    What do you mean by that?
    -> If you think that you oversize the data & log area during the creation of the database, please let me know the configuration of the data & log volume in the database, provide the output of the command 'param_getvolsall'. What is the filling of the data & log area? What is the version of your database?
    -> Please review the SAP note: 869267 FAQ: MaxDB LOG area
       < You will find the answer on the questions
         "25. What should I bear in mind if the log area is saved to files?"
         "26. How do I archive the log backup files generated?"
        and more ... >
    -> As of 7.6 version you could use 'db_deletevolume' command, you could find details in MAXDB library to delete the datavolume for the reducing size of the dataarea, if the size of the data area was oversized.
       To reduce size of the log area < or shrink the log area > and reduce the size of the data area in the earlier releases of the database => use the Homogeneous system copy with MaxDB using backup/restore procedure < SAP Note No. 129352 >.
    Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

  • /usr/sap/ccms is above the threshold value

    Hi,
    Can you guide me with this one, what are the files should be deleted with this directory? Where I can find those files?
    Hoping for your immediate response.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Please login from os level
    cd /usr/sap/ccms
    Check the Sizes of the directory du -sk *
    It will give the size of all the directory and files.
    Please find that directory which is very large and go to that directory and find which files are very large and date of that files.(old files)
    Check the old files which are present and also still they are using it or not.If they are not in use you can move that files into another directory which has free space.
    Check for one week if there is no any inconsistency and then you can delete that files.
    Please take the proper approvals before deleting it.
    Other wise please inform to the backup team to take backup of that directory.
    or
    Each agent can generate 500mb data in the ../traces and ../data directories if this fills up the file system, in case of emergency when can delete the contents of
    /usr/sap/ccms/wilyintroscope/traces
    /usr/sap/ccms/wilyintroscope/data
    Then restart the EM
    To reduce the required space open the ./config/IntroscopeEnterpriseManager.properties file, and you can find the entries as below:
    introscope.enterprisemanager.transactionevents.storage.max.data.age=N
    #The trace files under "traces" folder will be deleted after N days.
    introscope.enterprisemanager.smartstor.tier3.age=N
    #The historical files under "data" folder will finally be deleted after N days
    introscope.enterprisemanager.transactionevents.storage.optimize.time offsethour
    #It's only about the time to run the "house keeping".
    Please adjust the settings accordingly. These changes will not have a immediate effect to the current situation. The simplest way to solve the problem is just to delete the whole "data" and "traces" folder. EM will automatically re-create these new folders when restarting. But please be aware that the historical data will be lost, so we suggest backing up the historical files first. From then on, the "house keeping" work will run in the new way as we have modified.
    Alternately one can put the /data directory on a different disk drive / disk controller. For this purpose, change
    the following properties in the file config/IntroscopeEnterpriseManager.properties:
    introscope.enterprisemanager.smartstor.directory=/your/separate/drive/data
    introscope.enterprisemanager.smartstor.directory.archive=/your/separate/drive/archive
    introscope.enterprisemanager.smartstor.dedicatedcontroller=true

    Dear Friends
    My /usr/sap/trans is going to be 95% full, our environment is ECC6.0 with Oracle 10g on AIX5.3,
    While creating the file system i had allocated 5GB, but now almost 4.57gb is used.
    i would like to ask you which files from the folders  cofiles & data should i remove, so that i can free some space. there are two types of files inside these folders one with the extention ".SAP" and another with ".<SID>"
    Regards
    Ayush

    Hi Nitin,
    You are absolutely correct with .<SID> are all Transport Requests generated from my Development system, and i cant delete them in anycase.
    But there are files with extension .SAP as shown below, and these gets accumulated as in when we uncar the support packages, so i would like to know can i delete these below mentioned files ?, and if i delete would it have any effect on the ruuning sap system ?

    As you said in your last message -> that while chaning SAP Development objects, this will create a request with .SAP extention, is it true. Because as far as i know Transport Requests are only created with the extention .<SID> not with .SAP. Please throw the light on the subject & correct me if i am wrong...

    How do I fix it?Add Space.
    Looks like you've got a less than 4G total for / with about 420MB free. That's nowhere near enough space, out-of-the-box the datafiles alone take about 1G.
    Try bumping sda2 up another 4G, or add a (at least) 4G partition and mount it at /usr/lib/oracle
    Per the Linux install guide ... "Disk Space ... 1.5GB minimum" http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18802/toc.htm#BABHICJH

    Hello.

    But tablespace should be created under c:\oracle\SID, and there is a lot of free space.
    Can I skip this delirious check of c:\ ?

    Hi,
    Please ensure your brtools is at the latest
    version as per note 12741.
    If the problem still persists, you can set the trace level for brspace
    to 11 as per note 29321 and re-run the phase.
    Usually in sap upgrade this is related to Oracle dba_free_space not the
    system free space, same theory should apply to EHP install. If you have
    an Oracle dba you may ask him to check the data dictionary view
    dba_free_space and available extents for each tablespace.
    Also please review carefully points within Note 716377 - Problem
    analysis in the upgrade: SPACECHK phases ?

  • SAP Install on Solaris 10 Sparse Root Zone ../usr/sap

    Hi All,
    I was wondering if anyone is running SAP on Solaris 10, SAP EHP4 ECC 6.0 Oracle DB version 10. App and Db in a sparse root zone.
    When we initially created our SAP install the Directories containing <SID> and trans_<SID> was give to us as "/usr/sap"
    Since this is a sparse root zone, the /usr directory is read only. To accommodate SAP, a directory was created in the global zone for each of the containers ( we have ECC, PI, BW etc..) and then mounted as a filesystem in each container.   /usr/sap exists in every container, and it was supposed to be nothing more than a mount point for the <SID> and trans_<SID> NFS mounts. This /usr/sap directory exists on the global zone of our M5000 and the additional files and folders are eating up OS space.
    This creates me with two problems.
    1. WHen I take a snapshot, I can't recover the zone in a automatic fashion because the local zone can not see the global /usr directory, so I have to recover that folder/file manually.
    2. I don't know exactly, but files are being created in the usr/sap directory that is causing internal drives to grow quickly.
    To resolve our issues it was determined that the best course of action is to remove the connection to the global zone by creating a /sap directory in each container and linking it as /usr/sap.  The /sap directory will be an NFS/FC mount point and that will fix the issue of disk space usage and backup recovery.
    Does anyone have another way to solve this problem or any suggestions that we should do something different. ?

    I use sparse zones on Solaris with ZFS.
    I delegate filesystems to the zone.

  • New Solaris 10 install, negative free space

    I just installed Solaris 10 from a Sun DVD over an old linux install. The install process created two UFS partitions with 0 unallocated space (I did everything the default), and everything seemed fine. The system boots correctly, and the filesystems both seem accessible.
    However, in the Solaris Management Console, if I go to Storage->Disks it takes a long time to load, and then it says I have 1 disk with -1.06GB free. When I click on it, it says it doesn't see a Solaris Fdisk partition. What's wrong?
    I installed it on a Thinkpad R40.

    It looks like the filesystems themselves have free space, but the Solaris Management Console doesn't seem to think it has a Solaris Fdisk partition and wants to delete the whole disk.
    I don't even know how to really look at the partition table because I'm not familiar with Solaris's device naming scheme. There's no c0d0 device to run fdisk on.
    The only time I see information about the partition table at all is in the Solaris Management Console, where it tells me that there is negative free space.

  • File system /usr/sap/hostctrl/work getting full rapidly

    Dears,
    Recently We have installed PI 7.1 on AIX 6.1 and database is Oracle 10g.
    Everything is working fine but we are facing one strange issue with it.
    Our file system  /usr/sap/hostctrl/work  is getting full again and again,I checked that there is a file dev_saphostexec that is taking maximum space,At present its of 15 GB.
    So please suggest how to solve this problem.

    Dear Mark,
    I have read OSS Note SAP Note 1031096 - Installing Package SAPHOSTAGENT.
    We are starting this week installing "Diagnostics Agent 711" on all SAP Netweaver 7.00 mananged system.
    I have read the "Diagnostics Agent 7.11- Setup Guide".
    In the "Installation Process", there is a step concerning the "Install the SAP Host Agent - Page 9".
    I have read the "Installation_SAPHOSTAGENT.pdf" guide.
    In the first page of this guide, it is written :
    "You only need to download and install the host agent in the following cases :
    - You want to centrally monitor a host that does not have an SAP component"
    - You want to perform an upgrade to the SAP NetWeaver 7.1 for an SAP NetWeaver component".
    In our productive envronment, we do have 2 clusters :
    Cluster 01 is composed of 2 nodes.
    Only "Databases" and "Central Services" of 5 SAP Systems are running.
    There is no CI or SA
    Cluster 02 is composed of 6 nodes.
    Only CI and AS of 5 productive systems are running on theses 6 nodes.
    My question :
    Do we have to install a SAP HOST AGENT in nodes of cluster 01 ?
    As written in "Downloading and Installating Package SAPHOSTAGENT" guide,
    SAP HOST AGENT only need to be install on "host that does not have an SAP component".
    Can we consider that "database" and "Central Service" are SAP Component or not ?
    Thanks in advance for your feedback
    Best regards
    P. Cuennet
