No Games Category for South Africans

Hi All,
Just brought my father an iphone from england and got it all activated and he is over-joyed. Going to the app store, there is no games category. There are games in the appstore when you just randomly search, but why is there no Games Category??? To give me dad now some proper games I have to authenticate through my ID and download from the uk app store. What going on? H

Thanks for the update.
Appears they are doing the same with the music market.
Probably a few years before someone wakes up and deals with it.
For now it appears, i would have to purchase stuff for my dad.

If not available in the South Afraican store, you can't. You can only use a country store where you have a verified billing address located in the country & you are physically located in the country.

Nobody here is responsible for what is or is not available in any country. I believe it is a software licensing thing.

  • Blackberry Application World for South African USE - What a nightmare and a mess!!!

I am seriously thinking of leaving blackberry with their crappy support service - Since I have updated my blackberry application world about 2 months ago, I have not been able to access any new application updates etc. Somethimes my phone auto-reboots itself, and then starts up with the Blackberry login page....you logg in and it keeps rejecting your password even though it IS correct. I went and tried resetting my password on the website 2 times already and still no luck.
All Vodacom's support services keep welling me in South Africa is "There is a problem with Blackberry application world" they will send a fix for it in about 3 weeks.... And every time I call 3 weeks later the message is "3 weeks"
CAN ANYONE HELP AS BLACKBERRY DOES NOT SEEM TO PROVIDE SERVICE PAST THE SALE OF THEIR HANDSETS!!! Unless you keep paying and paying......

I get the same error I think. When I go in to app world I get the following message: an update of blackberry identity is required before you can use app world.
Then I say yes to start the update, but I've gotten the following error since I bought my phone: blackberry identity installation failed. Please try again later (80003)
This has been going on for four months now and I've never gotten further than the log in page. $
No one can assist me. Can you please help??

  • Price policy for South African Cloud Membership

I own Creative Suite 5 Production Premium and have seen offers advertised where if you own a previous suite you can switch to cloud for $29.99. Living in South Africa i was not able to utilize this offer because the cloud was not available here until now.
My question now is do I still qualify for the special price and how do you subscribe to the cloud with the lower price. I get told the offer is not valid in your region when I try.

In Australia, we also pay higher prices for Adobe software - around the same increase as you're seeing at your end - about 25% higher. Think the Aus price is AU$62/month for CC and the Aus $ is stronger than the US.
Thanks Dean. Yes, that's what I'm paying. I'm in Australia too.

There has been a lot of discussion about this in avrious blogs, magazines. The official Adobe explanation is:
"Our pricing methodology takes into consideration the costs of doing business in different regions and customer research that assesses the value of the product in the local market. Conditions vary between markets and it’s difficult to make a straight comparison between countries."
    http://desktopmag.com.au/news/adobes-cs6-pricing-explanation/
It doesn't really explain things but suggests that Adobe creates a price they think will be accepted by the market.
I've seen these vague "explanations" trotted out online often.
They're often cut-and-pasted in this forum by Adobe Staff. Suggest the Staff don't have a better answer either - or they're not authorised to post one.
Problem is the "explanations" don't explain anything - especially the fact that the Cloud is digitally delivered so no transport or packaging costs, just bit and bytes and Gigabytes from an Adobe server located somewhere around the globe. Same product and service wherever you are.
As you say, Adobe charges what the market will bear. Some loathe it and won't pay the regional price differences on principle. The majority tolerates it in order to use the software.
Free market capitalism at its purest.

In Australia, the educational price for Creative Cloud is in line with the US price. In fact, with current exhange rates, it's slighly cheaper.
    Interesting observation.

  • Why is South African Educator Discount almost non-existent?

    Hi
I want to upgrade to Adobe Creative Cloud from the Photoshop subscription of $9.99 p.m.
However, since I am in South Africa, paying $49.99 p.m. (excluding 14% value added tax) is not affordable. Since I work at a university, I hoped to make use of the educators discount. Many of my colleagues purchased CS5 & 6 this way and received around 50% discount. Having the ability to install the software on personal computers instead of work computers is a major advantage, because work pcs often don't have enough graphics processing power - that is why we purchase this software for ourselves instead of through our employer, even though we still use it for work.   I also noted that the educators discount in the US and EU is 60% and in New Zealand it is 70%!
Full of hope, I contact Adobe Sales (after having a very strange conversation with a non-English speaking person on Adobe Chat) and a very polite British guy gives me the contact details for a local (South African) reseller, as apparently Adobe does not handle educator discounts for South Africans directly.
So guess how much of a discount I received from the reseller? A measly 19%. When I queried the amount quoted, the reseller told me that the price is provided by Adobe and they cannot change it.
I guess something is better than nothing, but this discount does not come close to placing this product in the affordable range.
My complaint is this: Why is the South African education discount so much worse than other countries? Please Adobe, I would just like a reasonable answer to this. If you tell me it is because of fraud or high taxes or whatever, I will be happy, but please at least provide South Africans with a reason for the differential treatment.
Thanks for your response in advance

    Hi there
I’m sorry to hear that you have been experiencing poor service in the Ramona area! I’d be happy to help! ! I recommend trying our AT&T Mark The Spot app app to capture the location of areas where there is little or no service. This information is then used to locate possible issues and plan future network improvements. We realize you won't be able to report network issues from the app without wireless service but you can mark a place on the map and report the issue when service has been restored or you can use Wi-Fi. Visit the app store for your device manufacturer and download the AT&T Mark the Spot app.
Mark the Spot is free for AT&T customers to download:
Get Mark the Spot for iPhone
Get Mark the Spot for Android
Get Mark the Spot for Windows Phone

  • South African Games Access Still Blocked

I've posted an earlier topic on access to the Games on the iTunes App Store in South Africa (this category does not exist). I'm getting nowhere. I've recently discovered that the game Doodle Jump (one trivial but significant example) is available in South Africa on the Nokia OVI store. Nokia customers have access games and often the same ones!
Why then is it that we cannot access games content in South Africa? It can't be due to legal issues as we have the same and similar games available on non-Apple platforms. It can't be up to developers to decide where they would like to publish their games surely. And if its not the development companies and not Apple - who is it? I will mail them, call them even meet them face to face, but please just give me an explorable answer to clarify this.

Thanks for the response! I'm worried about this - why does Nokia OVI publish applications with the same or similar titles (e.g. games that are often free) and give people access to a vast database of Music in South Africa (6 million tracks+) ?
They (the Nokia platform developers) would have had to go through the same process of certification - which is apparently quite costly. OVI is not as old or mature as App Store, yet they are penetrating the market like a steamroller.
Maybe their revenue model and licensing agreements are better or more appropriately suited to SA? Or maybe they are jumping through some loopholes? I'm almost forced to buy and redeem gift vouchers to gain access to these applications. This seems legal, but maybe not as ethical due to the fact that I'm purchasing a gift....for myself.

  • HT204411 Why are games & music not available for purchase from AppStore & iTunes for south Africa?

I get a cannot connect to ITunes error when trying to access iTunes store.  Also I cannot doWnload certain games from AppStore.  After searching I found out that these options are not available in South Africa.  What would the reason be that certain countries don't have access to these options?

Hey ascott57. This is also disinformation. I have personally spoken to the head approver of games in the FPB in South Africa. The rating charge is only applicable for DISC-based games that are sold in stores, so that parents can identify the games for an age group and also for stores to know when not to sell a game. When a game is sold on a mobile system, it is automatically exempt from this rating system, as the selling platform has automatic parental guidance systems built-in.
There is NO reason why developers are not allowed to publish games to South Africa on the iTunes App Store or Mac App Store. This is Apple not having a section, so developers cannot even target that category, because it simply doesn't even exist.
I registered as a games developer for iOS and when I found out that if I develop games for iOS, I can't even publish it to my own country, I let my developer registration lapse on purpose in protest.

I have an apple ID for the South african i Tunes store.  How do I get one for the US one?  I want to use Mind Snacks.

You will need a valid billing address in the US and be in the US when you want to buy anything from it. You can try requesting that it be added to the South African, but ultimately it's the app's developer that will have to grant Apple a licence to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • Movies for IPAD2 if South African

So now that I have bought the IPAD it seems I cannot buy movies from the USA itunes store as I am South African. Great. Where else can I buy movies on line that I can use on the IPAD? This is a lot of work for something that was meant to be easy and fun.

Sorry, but I've not heard of any download store that has been licensed to sell feature films in South Africa. It's all up to whatever entities hold the distribution rights for SA for feature films, and apparently those companies have not yet been willing (or able due to contract issues) to license movies for download sale. Unless and until such permissions are granted, there's nothing Apple or any other company can do.
But an Apple TV isn't "useless". It can still play music as well as videos that you can obtain from a legal source, if any are available in South Africa (same problem as with feature films) or that you import from your own camera. That might not be what you had in mind when you purchased the Apple TV, but it's not "useless" as such.
    Regards.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • HT204411 Why isn't music, games etc. available to South Africans, what is the problem?

I know that we as South Africans don't have access to purchasing music, videos and books on iTunes, this has been made very clear.  However, I would like to know why? What seems to be the problem why we cannot have access to these items?
Many of us have spent a lot of money on purchasing our i devices and would like to use them to their full potential.
    Regards
    T

The thing is, I have tried to contact Apple directly, but to know avail.  It's like their dodging their users questions and it's not right.  When I was using Nokia, their Ovi Store had know restrictions in terms of content, so I seriously don't think it's got anything to do with government control or licensing issues, especially since we can download and access music and games etc. online via my desktop computer.
I just think it's a case of Apple discriminating against certain countries and making assumptions of countries that's not fair or true.  Don't get me wrong, I love Apple devices and will not use anything else, but it would be nice to have full access to all content regardless of the country your living in.  I have spent close to $250 US Dollars on apps that is only available in my country, can you imagine how much money the US will make out of me if they open their store up to other countries.
It would seriously be awesome if an Apple Management would come onto this forum and address these issues themselves or are they TO CHICKEN.

  • Keynote Remote not available from South African Mac App Store

    Hi
I Just bought Keynote from the Mac App Store and discovered that the sister app Keynote Remote is not available in the South African Mac App Store. Not only is this app missing but there is no games category and there are other very useful apps which aren't listed. This means no Fight Control or Simon Says
Any way this can be rectified?

    Hey Cybeo,
You are correct! There isn't a games section on the South African Mac App Store. Strange.
I would drop a note to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ unless there is a reason someone else might know of?
Is the Keynote Remote application not showing up for you in the iTunes App store under South African?
    Direct Link http://itunes.apple.com/za/app/keynote-remote/id300719251?mt=8
Keep in mind that the stores while they share the same AppleID are different for iOS devices like iPhones/iPads and iPod Touch then it is for your Macintosh Computer.
    I hope that helps!

  • Why are certains applications not available in South African App Store?

Why are certain applications such as Google Earth, Google Mobile App, and most games not available in the South African App Store.
We speak English so localisation should not be a problem.
I'm sure there are no legal reasons why these applications are not available here, as we have desktop equivalents for most of them.
Why does South Africa have to have a diminished iPhone experience?

    No idea.
You would have to ask Apple and/or the company that makes the app and/or - most likely - the Government of your country.
I'm sure Apple and the app developer would love to sell more apps.
Since this is a user forum, made up of iphone users, like you - there is nothing we can do about it.
    Sorry.
You may leave feedback for Apple at:
