No Games CD in my FX5900XT-VTD128?

Just bought a new FX5900XT-VTD128 from NewEgg here in the US.  Got 2 cds with the card: a Drivers/Utils disk and a WinDVD Creator disk.
From the MSI web site, it would appear that 3 full games and 14 trials are missing from the box.
Was I supposed to get another CD or 3?  How would I go about getting these?
Thanks,
Michael

Excellent point, Sonofabob.   Yes, I did get the VIVO version, and I didn't look at the pictures of the includeds.   Instead, I compared the model name to the info on the MSI site, and I didn't think that MSI would list one thing... but Newegg would sell it differently.
To be fair, Buy.com also doesn't mention any games software in its product listing.  But reviews like http://www.bit-tech.net/review/317/3 show stacks of cds, and some stores (like SuperWarehouse, http://www.superwarehouse.com/MSI_FX5900XT_128MB_Video_Card/FX5900XT-VTD128/pi/362395) also imply that the games come with the card (Btw, no connection with superwarehouse, could be a total scam, just happened to pop up in a search)
I guess I don't really need the games...   But if MSI implies that the games come with the card (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=FX5900XT-VTD128&class=vga)  then I expect to see them.
But yes, the model number on the web site is MS-8937-040, while my box says -070.  Perhaps -070 means "no games"?
Thanks to you all for suggestions and help.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 capture problem

    Hi,
I read the many posts about capture problems but did not recognise my issues.
I just got FX5900XT-VTD128 and I am trying to get it to capture with WinDVD creator (bundled). WinDVD would start but then it would hang without listing any capture device.
I installed the latest WDM drivers from the nVidia site (2.20_wdm-vivo.exe)
Device manager list the following devices under sound, video and game controllers:
     - nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar (12-2-2003)
     - nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)  (12-2-2003)
The multimedia tab in control panel show the following under "devices"
under "Video Capture device" -->  -Microsoft WDM Capture
After reading the posts, I suspected a WDM driver problem so I did the following:
1- removed both nVidia WDM devices from device manager
2- removed Microsoft WDM Capture from multimedia devices
3- removed nVidia WDM drivers with Driver Cleaner
I rebooted and confirmed that no nVidia WDM devices were present in Device manager and that no WDM capture device were present under multimedia capture devices.
I re-installed nVidia WDM driver 2.20 and rebooted. Windows plug and play recognised both nVidia WDM devices and installed drivers for it.
When I checked, both Device manager and Multimedia capture device were back as they were before the driver re-install yet WinDVD still hang when I click "capture" (Window is still alive, I can kill WinDVD manualy but I would then not be able to restart it without first rebooting).
I tried Flycap and VirtualVCR with no better result, they hang.
I am using Win98 SE on a Gygabyte  GA-7N400-l motherboard with AMD Sempron 2400+ CPU and 512MB RAM. I have no other card in the PC.
I am using nVidia driver 66.94 from the file: "66.94_win9x_english.exe"
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 vs RX9800PRO-TD128SP

    Which card should I get?
    FX5900XT-VTD128 or RX9800PRO-TD128SP
I'm gonna upgrade my computer to an AMD 64 3000+ on the K8N Neo2 Plantinum mobo and I'm not sure which vid card to get.
I currently play wwiionline which runs way better on the nvidia cards than the ATI cards but I'm also looking at getting half-life 2 which doesn't even list any nvidia products in their system reqs (just ATI cards).
I can't afford the 6800 or X800 so don't bother telling me to get those.
    Any input is appreciated
    Thanks

The biggest question is what you play and how much. If you mainly play WWIIOL then go Nvidia. If you play a wide variety of games the 9800 Pro may be a better choice.
That's my problem. I was planning on mostly playing wwiiol which is why I was gonna get the FX59000XT but I'm looking at picking up HL2 which highly recommends ATI over FX cards
Are the benefits of nvidia over ATI for wwiiol greater than the benefits of ATI over nvidia for HL2?
    - If YES then nvidia is the better choice
    - If NO then ATI is the better choice.

  • VCR capture FX5900XT VTD128

I have connected the vcr to the video in of the card using the RCA to S-Video connector supplied with the card.  All drivers are installed including the capture drivers.
I can't find a way to capture (even see) the output from my vcr.  Should this be possible and if so how?
There does not seem to be any tv tuning capability so how does the card know where to look for the signle?  Or am I missing something in the driver install and should have a tv turner device?
    System
    P4 3.2G
    Asus P4P 800 Motherboard
    MSI FX5900XT VTD128
    1G ram

You are confusing RF-in (or aerial input) with video-in (or TV-in).  Cards with an inbuilt TV tuner, which your card lacks, have an RF-in socket into which one usually connects an aerial; and with the appropriate software one can search the RF spectrum for a TV station's broadcast frequency in the same way a radio is tuned to a particular radio station.  The Video-in socket takes a different kind of signal and gets it direct from a video device.  There is no tuning.
Get some video capture software. AmCap is pretty basic.  Once installed select S-Video input from Options -> Crossbar, then select Options -> Preview and you should be getting a picture.
    Tony.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 is it 256bit memory buss or 128bit?

I looked and looked for a simple table of technical specs, but haven't had much luck.  I suspect that the FX5900XT-VTD128 memory buss is only 128bit, but haven't found information one way or the other.  Just looking to buy the right FX5900XT.

Thanks Assaf .. I would have felt a little more warm and fuzzy if you had added the words "memory buss" in your response.  Hopefully I can assume that's what you meant.  Please pardon my OCD.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 Board hangs with Mother board ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and AMD Athlon 3000+

    Hello Folks,
Please, I need your Help !!!
I bought a new FX5900XT-VTD128 Board and I am trying to install it in my new PC and it hangs the PC. It has just frozen it and I can not access neither the Bios or anything else. If I use my old Nvidia 4, everything works fine. My Mother board is a ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and Monitor is a LG Flatron 17" Model: T710SH. The Bios of my PC is the last version liberated by ASUS version 1012 E. My Processor is an AMD Athlon 3000+ DDR 400 - The PC has 1GBDRAM (DDR - 400).
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Mario

    Hi Kingfisher,
    Thanks for your help.
But the Video Cards hangs in the Boot moment, before MS Windows XP comes in and the driver begins to act. My concern is a hardware conflict or a incompatibility or even hardware defect.
What kind of troubleshooting is ideal ?
    Regards,
    Mario

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 - System keeps restarting

My system keeps restarting and windows is saying it's a graphics card driver problem.
The driver I am using is v6672 from MSI LiveUpdate.
I am currently running this card on:-
    AMD AthlonXP 3200+
    2 x 512Mb 400Mhz DDR RAM (Dual Channel Mode)
    MSI K7N2 Delta-L Motherboard
    PSU - 400Watt Ebuyer Value
Sometimes I can play a game full resolution for ages and it won't crash and sometimes just 5 mins.  Also it will reboot while doing simple things.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's strange, the lock ups just occur after a while.  I've been playing Doom 3 high resolution for ages today and nothing happened.  Yet I could go to bed tonight and wake up to a BSOD.  Then sometimes I could be doing something in Office and it will just BSOD.  I was using the PC for around 6 hours yesterday before it happened.  All graphics are fine in the games I've played, so it must be something else.
I've done MEMTEST and that was fine, and also ran CPU test and that was fine.
But...I noticed today there was something new on my motherboard that wasn't on my old.  A 4 Pin connecter and the mobo manual says it powers the CPU.  Well I've connected this up and booted the system and no BSOD so far, but will let you know if it does.

  • New review on the FX5900XT-VTD128

Just letting people with this card know that a new review is out on it.
The put it threw it's paces very well and it came out shining for the most part.
If it just was not for the fact that MSI took the temp monitoring out it would be a great card.
    Anyway here is the review.

I agree, the only blemish is not having the thermal monitoring.  I give it 9 out of 10..... lol

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 and crashes (solved)

I haven't heard back from MSI's teck support yet, but maybe someone here can help.
I got the card this weekend and tried new drivers, old drivers, etc and the card still crashes when using IE or if I have a window open browsing files.  It is most stable using the 45.32 drivers from MSI.  I am getting the latest frm nVidia now, maybe that will help.  Also the PSU is a generic 350w and I wonder if that is a problem.  I upgrades from a GeForce 2 Pro.

The PSU says it is 400w and I couldn't find a name.  The Antec is a VAR II case and it didn't come with a PSU.  The PSU is from my old generic case.
    3.3v = 28a
    5.0v = 35a
    -5v = .5a
    12v = 15a
    -12v = .8a
    +5sb = 2a
    3.3v+5v = 180w max
Also cleaned the MSI drivers off and installed the nVidia drivers and things were stable.  I couldn't find any WDM capture drivers on nVidia's site so I installed the ones on the CD and explorer started crashing, but not nearly as frequently.  I am going to look again.  MSI tech said to try the card in a different system, which I don't have.
[edit] Just found the capture drivers on their wb site.  Will try them out this afternoon.

    KXXX XXXX
    MSI Computer Australia

  • 5900XT VTD128 - Blank screen for games

I've just had my new 5900XT arrive and my problem is I can't play any games.
When I start any game, I can hear the sound but the screen goes (and stays blank).
I'm using the 61.72 drivers that came on the MSI CD.
    ABit IC7-G MoBo (i875P Chipset)
    P4c 2.8 (200*14)
    2 x 512Mb Crucial CT6464Z40B PC3200 DDR

    Asetek Waterchill CPU Cooling System
    Jeantech 423w PSU

Yea boozer, as Richard says, the hardest (and best teaching btw) problems are the multi problematic issues that you face in some systems...they frustrate the heck outta ya but you learn so much from them that you'll see other problems posted from users, after you've fixed yours of course, and your fingers won't move fast enuff to type the answer...
Multi issues are a pain but you are making headway here...the fact that you don't have other "gold board" components at your disposal is really a major hinderance to you, as well as many other users out there, and can/will make it more painful to fix the problem that you're having...
Motherboard, Memory, CPU, Video Card (current release parts that are close matches or exact matches) that are known good (maybe get a friend of yours to help you out here with his/her system?) are what you need to troubleshoot to the extent needed here...swap one component at a time and keep good records of what you see happening, meaning write it down!!! Building a testbed is quite easy using a large piece of plywood and makes swapping parts in and out quite easy...alternatively I've seen ppl cut up an old ATX case and mount it on wood the same way keeping the MB mounting back, CDROM mount housing, 3.5" housing intact and mounting it all to wood...I really recommend this for anyone who takes on the task of building their own units these days as troubleshooting has become the "norm" cause of compatibility issues, driver issues, PSU issues, etc...there are many other reasons to list but these are the main ones I come up against these days...
When I had my computer store, much like Richard, I used that test bed prior to actually building my system into a case to ensure that all of my components played in the sandbox well together allowing me to return what didn't initially play well and I also kept a good supply of "known good components" or "gold boards" on hand in order to ensure that new parts were'nt DOA or damaged...I also recommend highly getting some kind of Electrostatic Discharge covering for your bench that includes a wrist strap snap and then making absolutely sure that it's grounded properly to a waterpipe in the house/garage/office. Then and only then would I handle your components...
Yes this seems quite extensive for the occasional builder, and is really, but this is the only way to ensure that you aren't zapping yourself into pain and frustration...believe me when I say this, I had sooo many customers try to return products to me that I pretested on my bench, showed them they worked, and they took them home and zapped them dead or dying by building their system on a carpeted floor with no grounding of themselves...You can seriously damage a part and not totally kill it dead and it'll work but it won't work properly and will lead you down many misleading roads making you think another part is bad when it really isn't...
Sorry for the dissertation but I'm hopeful that others will read this as well and learn from it...
    Good luck on your issue!!
