No gratuitous arp N1k when second subgroup comes up again
Hello,
we have an Nexus 1000v with PortChannel to no clustered upstream Switches.
Port-Profile Configuration:
config attributes:
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,6-7,64,150,607,630
switchport trunk native vlan 1
channel-group auto mode on sub-group cdp
no shutdown
If one Link goes down, the VM of this Link will change to the second Link. During this change i see a maximum of one lost Packet in the Ping to this VM.
If the first Link still comes up, I see something that I don't understand.
After 6-7 seconds I have 6-7 Packets lost in the Ping to the VM that changes the Link.
The MAC of the VM will change from one Link to the other in the MAC-Address-Table on the Upstream Switches after this time.
In the Documentation I read only about gratuitous arps, when the link fails.
How can I reduce the Packet lost?
I have one link from each host to each upstream switch in this port channel.
This is a test system with two ESX-Hosts and two upstream switches (C2960G).
Here the Configuration of the upstream switch Ports:
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
description esx-netz1_1
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,6,7,64,150,607,630
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast trunk
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
spanning-tree bpduguard enable
In every Host I have four PNICs. Two for the channel, one for vMotion and one for the service console.

We can hear audio, but video blacks out every few seconds; picture comes back when we hit the tv's volume button. Everything seems to be plugged in well. The picture even starts out being sort of dim. And it goes through phases of working fine but then will randomly start blacking out again. Any ideas?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried turning the TV off and on again. -
Here is the scenario we are experiencing with our HP 4120 Lync phones running the latest available firmware (4.0.7577.4455)
1) A User has an HP 4120 phone and is a member of a workflow/response group which is setup with attendant routing method.
2) The ringer volume is set to the minimum level by the user
3) When a single call comes in to this user, the ringer volume level works as expected
4) When two calls come in at the same time to this users phone, the ringer volume set by the user is ignored and the ringer plays at Maximum volume.
This is causing disruptions to our office environment as we are unable to reliably control the volume levels of the ringers.
There does not appear to be anything more in the settings/menus of the phones themselves. I am thinking this may be an issue with the firmware, but if anyone else has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.
Thanks!!Hi,
Did the issue also happen before update to the latest firmware?
Did the issue only happen for Response Group call or also happen for basic calls?
If the issue only happen after updating to the latest firmware, it can be the issue of the firmware.
As there is call delay for Lync IP Phone to be a agent of the Response Group. So you can try to use Lync desktop to instead for better performance.

Applet overwritten when second instance initialized ?
Hi
When I try to initialize a second instance of an applet using IE(one instance is already running), I find that the first applet is overwritten by the second. This should not have been a problem, but my applet launches a password verification dialog box in the start method, and this is not destroyed when the second applet comes up, resulting in 2 of these dialog boxes. Result is, that if you close the second applet dialog box(ie, destroy the applet), and then enter the right password in the first dialog box, it causes the backend program to crash.
The Java Console shows that IE calls the 1st applet's stop/destroy/quit etc. methods, but they are not executed before being overwritten by second applet, hence destroying the dialog box in destroy() doesn't work. So, is there any way I can destroy the 1st applet before the second is loaded, or prevent second from being loaded?
Thanks
SantoshHello Santosh,
I have had many difficulties with this kind of problem in the past. The only way to gurantee that this will work is by making the Server more resilient.
Calin's suggestion is good. However, unfortunately, IE manages Applets in a very funny way. The fully qualified name of the Applet class depends on the window you opened the original Applet with (much like having loaded the same class with different ClassLoaders). This means that using static instance variables works in a very ad-hoc manner. Sometimes you get the result you expected, sometimes you don't.
IE also breaks the expected functioning of init/start/stop/destroy. If you keep on openning your applet HTML page, you will get the same number of concurrent applets all running on top of each other, until you close all browser windows.
If you have control over the Server process, make the start() method request a unique ID from the Server. After this, all subsequent calls from the Applet should be preceeded by this unique ID. The server should then listen for communication for each ID it has dispatched, up until a given timeout period, when it renders the ID invalid.

Gratuitous ARPs do not populate the router ARP Table
Hello,
In order to debug an ARP problem in a Firewall cluster environment, I connected a one-armed router on the public VLAN of the firewall cluster, in order to observe the ARP cache behaviour during a switchover. I configured a loopback interface on this router and a default route to this loopback interface to simulate a real router.
When a switchover occurs between firewall cluster members, the active member sends Gratuitous ARPs for all NATed IP addresses. In my environment, I have 110 NATed addresses configured on the firewall.
By launching a "debug arp" on the one armed router, I clearly see all 110 gratuitous ARPs arriving on the router, but the ARP cache of the router is NOT populated with the 110 entries...
Note : The command is configured on the one armed router :
Router(config)# ip arp gratuitous local
What can be the problem ? Is there any condition for a router to accept Gratuitous ARPs ?
Thank you for any help
YvesHi
Gratuitous arp is used when a host wants to inform the switch that the mac-address has changed eg.
You have a cluster which has redundant connections and an IP to mac-address mapping. If the active NIC fails the IP address is moved across to the standby NIC but the standby NIC has a different mac-address. So the cluster sends out a gratuitous arp which informs the switch of the new IP to mac-address mapping.
The reason you might not want to allow gratuitous arp is that you might not want your switch updating it's arp table based on annoucements from devices on the LAN as you could very easily spoof mac-addresses and corrupt the arp cache.

I have a hp psc 750 why does my second sheet come out first and the second sheet comes first
I have a HP PSC 750 printer and when I type a message 2 sheets long, the second prints out first and the second sheet comes out first, can you help?
@paddyv, Welcome to the Community!
You should have the option in the program you're printing from, to change the page order. Check the settings in the program.
If you cannot find the options, please let me know which program and operating system you're running and I will have a look in to this for you.
Best wishes

Question about "no ip gratuitous-arp" command in IOS
Does the "no ip gratuitous-arp" command affect gratuitous arps sent by the router (for example, when hsrp causes a secondary router to assume role of primary) or does it affect gratuitous arps received by the router (for example, gratuitous arps with the spoofed IP address of the router).
I do not have direct experience with this command. But I think that the documentation is clear that the command restricts the router sending gratuitous arp and does not affect the router receiving gratiutous arp.
The documentation is fairly clear that its restriction on gratiutous arp is a restriction on sending gratiutous arp when a remote client has learned an IP address via PPP negotiation and the address is in a local address pool. Assuming that this part of the documentation is accurate it would have no affect on the router sending gratiutous arp in HSRP takeover situations.

My iPhone apps wouldn't open they just blink for a second and the home screen comes back again...i tried installing a free app from the AppStore but it didn't work and also tried resetting the iPhone but ddnt work as well please help what do i do??
Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck! -
HT201401 IPhone often shuts down when it's comes about a 15 - 20 percent
IPhone often shuts down when it's comes about a 15 - 20 percent,
And when trying to turn it on appears on the screen there is a need to plug in (to charge).
After connecting to charger (after 5 seconds or so) the device turns on as if nothing had happened, and continues to work regularThat might occur if you're using the iPhone in low temperatures as the battery decharges quickly in lower temps. If you're using the phone at a normal room temperature I have no idea why your phone shuts off at as high as 20%. Also, if you use your phone in too high temperature areas the battery lifespan will decrease. The more you
Anyway, at least one time a month you should run the iphone down to 0% (or as low as you can go) and then completly charge it. Don't do any 5 minute charges, just go from what ever percent you're at and run it down to zero then recharge to full. -

I want to change Router2's Operating Mode from "Gateway" to "Router" because I
want to turn off NAT on Router2 so that I can access all computers attached to
Router2 by their individual IP instead of using port forwarding at Router2.
The problem is after the mode change from "Gateway" to "Router", and regardless
whether I disable RIP or enable RIP, and on what interfaces it is enabled, computer
192.168.2.160 does not have internet connection.
Observations:
[0] INTRAnet works as I can reach computer 192.168.2.160 from computer behind Router1
192.168.1.x and vice versa.
[1] ping and traceroute *work* on Router2 itself using the built-in dianostic tool.
[2] nslookup on computer 192.168.2.160 always works on new lookup. It uses
192.168.2.1 as the resolver.
[3] tcptraceroute stops after step 2:
[pre]
# tcptraceroute yahoo.com
Selected device enp2s0, address 192.168.2.160, port 45999 for outgoing packets
Tracing the path to yahoo.com (98.139.183.24) on TCP port 80 (http), 30 hops max

2 192.168.1.1 1.342 ms 0.964 ms 0.867 ms
3 * * *
[/pre]
[4] tcpdump shows that computer 192.168.2.160 tries to reach out and nothing is returned:
[pre]
13:34:03.172828 IP 192.168.2.160.45999 > 98.139.183.24.http: Flags [S], seq 1122548929, win 0, length 0

[/pre]
This is not expected because NAT to internet should still be done by Router1, no? Computer
behind Router1 with IP 192.168.1.x has internet connection.
[5] It looks like I cannot change the Routing Table Entry on Router2. I do not think I need to change anything,
just an observation.
[6] If I use LAN to LAN connection, then both intranet and internet works. [The internet IP of Router2 can be
anything not in the same subnet of the Router1, and DHCP on the local side should be disabled to avoid conflict
with the the DHCP on Router1].I have a question. Unfortunately in order to ask my question, I have to have a lengthy description of my setup. Basically, I have a second Linksys router in "router" operating mode with NAT disabled connected to the Verizon router, and I have a computer which is in a different subnet (192.168.2.x) behind the Linksys router. This computer can communicate with computers behind Verizon router in subnet (192.168.1.x), but cannot reach internet. This is a simplified version of my question, full details are in the original post.
If I setup the Linksys router in "gateway" operating mode, which means with NAT enabled, then both intranet and internet works, but there is no easy way to setup port forwarding for 10 compueters in 192.168.2.x network to communicate with 10 computers in 192.168.1.x network.
If I setup the Linksys router in a LAN to LAN configuration with Verizon routers, but this way all computers are in the same subnet, I want them to be in different subnet for access control and things like that.
I hope this makes things a little clear.
Thanks. -
ITunes crashes when screen saver comes on
Hello. When my screensaver comes on, iTunes stops playing. When I wake my computer from the screensaver, there is a window on my computer saying that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. I'm forced to shut iTunes down.
Anyone encountered this, and have a solution??
Please help! Thanks!
My specs:
Windows Vista RC2
iTunes 7.0.2.16If I read it right, the advice there is to turn off the screen saver and turn it back on all the time. Not terribly helpful.
I am having this same problem, it started when I downloaded/upgraded iTunes 7.0.2.16, before that it was no problem.
I have also had intermittent problems with iTunes playing one some in a playliest twice (repeat is not clicked, it will play a couple of sonds then repeat one then play a few more then repeat one) and once it played the same sone twice at the same time, about 10 seconds out of sync, which was very odd.
Is this a bug in the new version, or does anybody know a fix? Help is appreciated! -
