No guitar effects

I'm playing my guitar thru a mobile pre usb and am getting the "clean" sound from my guitar but none of the effects or amplifiers are coming out. I have monitoring on and my audio input is set to my mobile pre and audio out is set to built-in... Am I doing something wrong? Anyone please help!!

I should also add that when I record and play back the recording, the effects come thru but only on playback. I don't get a "preview" of what the effect will sound like.

  • Using GB Guitar Effects

I've been using the GB Guitar Effects, but they take up soooo much memory that I can't add more instruments or tracks without it freaking out.
Is there a way to make this work? Do i need an external hard drive to be able to make every track play in real time without GB stopping the playback? This drives me nuts. I would like to be able to use the GB effects and record a bunch of tracks without problems.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

You should use a external drive. You should lock tracks you're not working. More RAM is very helpful. And if you need record tracks dry and add effects later.

  • How do you monitor (turn on monitor) for Software guitar effects?

I can monitor the guitar effects when I select "Audio" instruments form the "New Tracks" browser by clicking on the "I" , but when I select "Software Insrument" the guitar sound comes out "clean" no matter which guitar I choose from the browser. Thank you.

So in order to hear the effects of the "Software" instrument effect (say for instance "beatnik guitar" from the instrument browser) I need to use a MIDI equipped guitar? I am able to hear the effects of the pianos and keys using a USB controller. Is that considered MIDI? It doesn't make since that I would need a MIDI equipped guitar to monitor the software guitars etc..? Thanks again.
You don't need a MIDI equipped guitar to hear the +guitar instrument+, but you need something that transmits MIDI, such as your USB controller. That said, if you can hear the effects of the "pianos and keys" then you should hear the effects of the guitar instruments as well. If the guitar sounds "clean," then it's meant to sound that way. Beatnik Guitar, for example, is a twangy kind of slightly-overdriven tone, but you're hearing what you're meant to hear.
To go a little deeper, the reason why you have an "I" in the Audio channel (not an Audio Instrument), is so you can hear the sound of the input, whether that be a real guitar or some other audio signal that originates from outside the computer. An Instrument channel does not need an "I" button, since there is no "input" per se. The instrument itself is the input.

  • Trying to load guitar effects template. says record drive not found.

    hi.
i'm trying to load the guitar effects template, but when I click on the record button, I get a message that record drive/partition MPC 2 not found. and then it defaults to the finder and tries to find this file or partition or whatever it is. What's going on here? how can I find this mpc 2, or else reconfigure to bypass it.
    Thanks.

Thanks very much. also I just read the answer for another post by another fellow on the same topic. I never knew that stuff about holding down the record button.
thanks folks. i got it working.

  • All Guitar Effects Disappeared after 1GB update

I was applying an effect to a guitar track I was working on, and there was a pop=up telling me that I needed to update my software (by downloading a 1GB pack), and now that I restarted GarageBand, all my Guitar effects are missing. There isn't even a listing for Guitars in the list.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Anyone know how to resolve this?
    X

This has also occurred on my system. For Real Instrument effects I now have:
    Acoustic Guitars
    Band Instruments
    Basic Track
    Bass
    Drums
    Effects
    Podcasting
    Vocals
I have deleted preference files, and deleted GarageBand and re-installed it without solving this problem.

  • Best Practices - Guitar Effects pedal board

    Hi,
Similar to what AudioEd posted for feedback, I'm interested in utilizing MainStage as an effects pedal board replacement.
I normally don't use a lot of effects (bass player), but have seen others on YouTube using their Mac's with other software
tools to augment their effects loop to their guitar rigs.  If all goes well, I may branch into some interesting solo looping type gigs.
Using the looping capabilities as opposed to hard box loopers...
I have a Boss Line Selector (LS-2), and have ran a few tests and can get everything flowing thru the audio chanels to my bass rig.
My first test was using the headphone out to send the signal back to my LS-2, and mixed thru it to the amp rig.
Input I used a PreSonus Firebox (firewire).   Will try an Apogee Jam, but I believe there will be limitations with that given the lack of channel controls on software.
Just wondering if anyone has practically done this or something like it in a live gig setting, specifically with Guitar or Bass.
Anyone have practical recommendations / best practices?
Using a MacBook Pro 17", 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, 750 G internal 7200 rpm, 8 Gigs Ram
    Mainstage 2.13
    Thanks!

As far as I know, the only load on the CPU is the active patch. All the others are 'bypassed' according to the manual. My own experience backs up this claim. When I experiment with sounds - several synths with complex FX plugins - I usually put a large CPU meter on my layout to monitor the load. The load seems to be fairly similar whatever channel strips & synths I have. (NB normally I only have one synth in each set. If I have several synths in one set, that does change the load.)
FX including Amp Designer don't put as much load on the processor as synths as far as I can see.
Amp settings are a bit of a nuisance as you can't call up Amp Designer settings from a controller yet. That means if you need more than one amp setting, you will need more than one instance of Amp Designer. In that case, you might as well load it in each set's channel strip. You shouldn't notice any gain in CPU load.
Pedal Board: if you have a consistent set of pedals that you move between all the time, then put the board in an Aux channel. That way, you will only have to set up the controls once. My GP guitar pedal board layout is Wah, Overdrive, Delay, Chorus & Flange. All have Bypass buttons allocated & some have extra controls set e.g. Chorus & Flange parameters & Delay times. The Overdrive usually has a fairly comprehensive set of controls depending on the pedal I choose.
This allows me to change the sounds quite a lot with a minimum of controls.
Do you put your sound into a guitar amp or a PA system? I put my rig into a PA from the computer. I have found that I get the best, most 'natural' electric sound by not using Amp Designer, but by using Channel EQ instead. I have an EQ patch that sounds very close to a Peterson clean channel (Peterson amps are an English made transistor amp that sounds rather like a Mesa Boogie 20 watt valve amp). When I add FX to that, I can get a very wide range of amp sounds very easily. It might be worth while exploring EQ settings.

  • Hear guitar effects when playing?

Hopefully will be a quick one - I'm using the Line 6 UX1 as a guitar/USB interface, and when I record my guitar in GarageBand and then play it back, I can hear the effects applied, but when I just play guitar with GB open (and with a certain amp selected), I don't even get a clean guitar sound coming through.
Is this intentional or is there something I still need to set up?
FWIW, the UX1 comes with PodFarm, through which I can hear myself play (incl. with effects applied) - I'm just after being able to do the same in GB.
    Many thanks in advance.

I tried that earlier, but must have been something else missing - worked this time. Many thanks!

  • Which cable to use from guitar effects pedal?

I have a new Korg multi effects pedal and I want to connect to Garage band.
The pedal has midi in & midi out ports which look like DIN to me. It also has an optical out port as well as the usual jack line outs.
My Mac only has usb1 and firewire 400 inputs. Is it going to be possible to make a simple cable connection or do I need another interface?
    thanks in advance

OK, I've scouted around a bit and found some relatively inexpensive midi/usb interfaces, but I've also realised that maybe I don't need midi!
All I really need to do is add my guitar to other tracks laid down in GB. All the guitar sound is going to be processed by my effects pedal, so I just need to get into a GB track. Am I right in saying that you only need Midi in if you want to change the sound to something else?. That being the case can I get a jack to USB cable to do the job as the pedal has jack line outs too?

  • I can hear clean AND preamp guitar effects while recording

    Hi all,
Just started to use LPX. I am using an Apogee Duet audio interface to record my guitar but notice that I seem to have two sounds overlapping when recording my electric guitar: the preamp effects version (distortion in this instance) and a clean version.
I've looked through my various books etc and can't seem to see how to avoid this so I can just hear the distortion I want while recording - can anyone help??

So you hear the signal both from the Apogee directly (clean) and what comes out of Logic (distorted).
So you must find out how to disable direct monitoring through the Apogee. Sorry, I don't know the Apogee in detail,
but I'm sure it can be done. And take a look here: http://www.apogeedigital.com/knowledgebase/all/input-monitoring-the-apogee-way/

  • How to export/use stereo guitar effects?

I have recorded on several Guitar Tracks . I used nice effects, like Dublin Delay & other preset guitar track setups. Delays and reverbs are usually stereo effects. But when I exported the tracks ( They are "stereo tracks", although of course recorded mono, from a single guitar) I noticed that both right and left channels are the same. So they are two exactly same mono files. How can I get stereo effects on guitar?

If you use an extreme stereo effect on your track, like a leslie for example, you should hear the difference. (I don't think you can see the result of a modest stereo effect in the waveform of your track).
One foolproof way to find out: Pan your track hard to the left or right and see if the exported file is dead center - which I can't imagine.
A possible reason for your export to sound "less stereo" is a setting in iTunes, like the "Sound Enhancement" option.

  • In Logic Pro 10 why are some of the built in guitar effects stereo and some are not

Just thinking of the obvious, have you downloaded the additional content from the ProLogic main menu?

    Hi PodgeRambo,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. As CoqRouge points out this is a duplicate post. If you are still requiring assistance, you should reply to the original thread. I have included some tips about the forums that should help you with your application
    1. Always stick to one thread. If you want to maximise the number of users who will be able to help you, splitting the question into duplicate threads will split the effort. It will take you longer to find a resolution and you will alienate the board members.
    2. If you are not getting the reponse that you need from users, have you included all the information that you should? If you give short forum questions then generally you will get short replies. Give as much information as possible. Here is an example of the type of information that you should look to supply
2.1 Detailed description of the problem you are seeing - this should include files, screenshots, error codes, expected behaviour, reference material if needed.
2.2 Description of any NI hardware you are using
2.3 Description of any NI software you are using along with versioning information. If you want people to give you code in a particular version, add this at the top of your post.
2.4 Description and links to any 3rd party software or hardware. Remember, these are NI forums and you may be using hardware that we are not familiar with.
If you supply all of the above information then you will get more detailed responses from board members.
    3. Say thank you when people offer support and mark useful posts with Kudos.
    4. If you solve the issue, mark the post that helped you arrive at the solution with the solution button. If another, different issue appears, start a new thread.
    5. Don't expect members to write whole applications. If you need that, we have the alliance channel.
    6. Reference any examples that you have used. Also, make sure that you look at the examples that come supplied with labVIEW.
Hopefully if you follow all of the above, you will get a solution to your problem through our forums.
I wish you the best with your application.

  • How to use TH1 Custom Guitar Effect Suite with Garageband?

I'm a newbie at home recording so bear with me.
I just downloaded the TH1 Triode VST demo but can't figure out how to make it work with my Garageband software?
    Any suggestions where to start?
Should I have downloaded the Stand alone version instead?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!

    Bingo! That was the trick!
    Now, second question.
If I want to buy the full version, do I purchase the the TH1 Triode AU version or would I need the TH1 1.1.4 AU Mac version? It says the TH1 1.1.4 AU is Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard compatible. But I'm on the 10.5.8 system. I guess my question is whether the TH1 1.1.4 is the latest version that works with 10.5.8 or is it only compatible with 10.6 or later? And by "Triode" do they mean "Try" ? LOL!!!
I know it sounds dumb but I really haven't got a clue which one to go for on my system.

  • Help! I only hear clean electric guitar while recording, and amp/effects after recording!

I have my electric guitar plugged into an Apogee Duet (driver is up to date with Yosemite).  After track is setup with effects, in an audio track or in a guitar preset track (I tried both), I can play and hear the guitar clean tones only without the effects I have put on the track, even though I have chosen guitar effects, like amp, pedals, etc...  Only after recording during playback, not pre, can i hear the effects I have chosen.  Why is this?  So pre recording and during recording, a clean tone.  Play back the track, it's all there with the amp and sounds I have chosen.  Frustrated.

Excuse this short reply, rehearsal in 30 minutes.
It sounds like you need to first turn off the Direct monitoring of the Interface. Most audio interfaces have a "direct no-latency" monitoring that actually takes place before the audio even goes to Logic, it's done within the interface. Different companies have different names for it, low-latency monitoring, direct monitoring....etc.
Next, open Logic's Preferences and I think with Logic-X  it's under the General tab (everything I'm describing will be under the general or devices tabs).
Select Software monitoring, make sure you I/O buffer setting is at 128. Lower buffer settings mean less latency but use more CPU.
