No hand tool (grabber) appears when cropping in LR 5.
I am using LR 5.6 on a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.4.) When attempting to crop, the hand tool often does not appear when I place the cursor inside the Crop Overlay Border. All I get is the pointer, which makes it impossible to reposition the photo inside the border. This happens intermittently (more often than not) and is only resolved when I restart Lightroom. I notice that this problem has arisen in other Adobe applications without satisfactory or consistent resolution of the issue. My space key is not stuck and the only browser open is Safari. Help!
On my computer the grabber it appears after I have cropped the image so that part of the image has been eliminated. Does that not happen for you?

10.7 Lion: Hand Tool - jumpy movements when accessed via spacebar?
I just upgraded to 10.7, and notice that the Hand Tool is very erratic and jumpy when accessed via the Spacebar. It's not so hot when directly using the Hand Tool, but it's about the same as it was under 10.6.
Is anyone else seeing this? It happens when using either the mouse or the Wacom stylus. Trying to determine if it's just me or not, could be some other app causing problems.Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated permit_mynetworks check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access reject_non_fqdn_hostname reject_invalid_hostname permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions. You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up. Private/policy I think relates to grey listing. Maybe gives you a hint. -
Why does the hand tool come up when I click the mouse?
I am a very knowledgable individual of InDesign but this is a stumper. I cannot use any single tool that I have. When I press the buttons on the side, for instance the text tool, the image that should appear for the cursor does, but once I click the mouse, the hand tool comes up and drags my page around. This is even when the hand tool is not even selected. I am not pressing any buttons on the keyboard or anything, this is quite frusterating. I am trying to do this job and can't even edit previous files or make a new one. Should I reinstall, or what? Please help!! Thank you.

Suddenly, pop-up menus appear when I move my cursor over a file or a program to open it. Is there a preference setting that will fix this?
What do the menus say. Do they show system functions? Are they advertising. Do they happen with every program?
The preference to check is Universal Accesss:
See if any main options are turn on. The Keyboard tab is selected in the screen shot, Also select the Mouse & Trackpad tab and see if anything has been activated.
If that doesn't show the issue, I'm guessing your CONTROL key is stuck down. -
Annoying hand tool issu: image keeps moving up and down when I drop the mouse!
Hi everybody!
I tried to install the latest pacth but that doesn't fix my problem. (photoshop CS5 12.04 MAC)
As i said in the title: when I'm under hand tool mode or when I hold the spacebar down to get the hand tool, the image mouves around and just continue to glide as if it wears ice skates!
The little problem slow down my work so much and I can't bear this any more....
Any idea about this?Under Photoshop>Preferences>General, uncheck Enable Flick Panning and see if that makes a difference.
(from photoshop cs6, but cs5 has the same option) -
I am using Fireworks CS4 and the hand tool will not go away
if anyone knows what I am doing wrong let me know.... Thanks in
advance...Thanks! I'll try it if it happens again!
half hour later . . .
Okay everyone . . . the people suggesting tapping the space bar are correct. When the tool sticks as the hand, tap the space bar, and that clears it.
I am not convinced that the keyboard is the problem. Rather, I think that there is something in the program that causes the hand tool to appear and then stick, and the space bar clears it. Here's why:
FYI - I said what follows, above; but I'll repeat here for clarity:
To try to rule out issues on my end, I . . .
1) re-Ghosted my PC back to a pristine image (then DL & installed all updates) to try to rule out system software issues
2) did Symantec disk check to try to rule out disk errors
3) DL Photoshop from Adobe website all over again (to try to ensure error-free file); install and reboot
4) DL Photoshop update; install and reboot
It doesn't get much cleaner than that. In addition, my keyboard (Saitek Eclipse II) is pretty new.
Here ias where the hand tool issue has appeared repeatedly for me:
I used photoshop for a couple of hours doing simple layers, cropping, and text with effects without problems. But then, I closed the program and opened it up again to do something more complex. The hand-tool issue appeared at the same point it did before I went through all this:
I had some photos that I wanted to use as fill for shapes on the masked layer below the group . . .
1. I grouped 6 layers
2. ctrl-click the masked layer below the group, then clicked on the group
3. Choose layer>layer mask> reveal selection (puts the grouped photos into the shapes in layer below)
And this is where the hand appears--not every timwe, but a few times. I was also frequently going back and forth between a You Tube viseo and Photoshop when the hand appeared.
Anyway, tapping the sapce bar seems to resolve it.
Cheers.

Arrow and Hand tool question/problem
The pointer tool is selected in the tool bar but when I go into the Timeline it defaults to the Hand tool. So when I try and resize the clip length, for example, I can because the Hand tool moves the whole screen.
Its only starting doing this is there a setting to change this?
ThanksIt's a bug - try trashing your prefs:
1) Quit Motion.
2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it. -
Hand tool stops working in Flash CS5
Does anyone know why my hand tool stops working after some time? Whenever I restart Flash, it works, but after like 30 minutes working, it just won't work. The hand tool symbol appears, with the shortcut key, the space bar, and the button on my pen as well, but it won't drag it at all.
I have to restart it every time, and its getting annoying.
I have a
Intel Core i7-2600k @3.40GHz
Windows 7 64-bit
8 GB Ram
1TB Space
Everything works fine, is just that hand tool issue.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
P.S. First time I've posted, maybe wrong forum section.Hi ,
Yes for the brush tool , we just have the fill color. Snapshot attached -
Let me know what do you want to achieve using the brush tool so that I can suggest you some other tool to be used for the requirement.

In FF only, my mouse pointer (arrow or hand) dissapears and re-appears when I move the mouse
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") -
Hand Tool Appears and Have to Restart Computer - CS5
This problem has been going on for quite some time. I'll be working on a project and then out of nowhere the hand tool is activated and I'm no longer able to use any of the other tools. If I quit all the open Adobe programs and restart PS, the hand still appears. Only after I restart my computer, does PS work again. This is a reacuring problem that happens several times a day. I've noticed it happens when I'm zoomed in relatively close to the area I'm working in.
Help?Hitting the H key or the space bar repeatedly, say six times in very quick succession, normally clears it up. In some cases it may take 10 or 12 times.
As to what triggers it, when CS3 and CS4 were current, there were some old versions of Microsoft Entourage that caused it when Entourage was open in the background. It was some strange interaction between the buggy version of Entourage and the OS (in my case it was Tiger). Subsequent updates to Entourage fixed it.
However, it's entirely possible that something else may be causing it in your case. I don't have CS5.

Panning scrolling is going slow and hand tool ain't working when using lasso tool.
Hello Photoshop users,
A couple weeks ago I bought a new PC with windows 8.1. I installed Photoshop CS 5, and it worked really well.
The only thing that isn't working really well, is the (polygonal) lasso tool. When is use it, the scrolling/panning is very slow and the hand tool is also very slow or isn't working at all. Very annoying.
I already called the Adobe customer service, but they don't support Photoshop CS 5 any more (what is a shame for such a expensive program)
Do more people have this problem? Or does anyone know how I can fix this?
I hope someone can help me.I just fired up Photoshop CS5 on my Win 8.1 system and the panning is quick and interactive.
Is your new PC a desktop system? If so, what video card do you have in it? Have you checked the web site of the maker of that video card to see if they have an updated display driver?
For what it's worth, I have an ATI Radeon HD 7850 and the newest display driver (Catalyst 14.4), and like I said, Photoshop CS5 (though not the version I use much any more) appears to work just fine here.
Another thing you can try is to go into the Performance preferences, click the [Advanced Settings...] button in the GPU Settings section, and try different Modes. Make sure to fully close and restart Photoshop after making any changes there, so you'll be sure to be testing the new settings.

Temporary Hand Tool is not working when Firefox is open
Hi guys
Hopefully some of you can help me with a problem that has annoyed me for quite some time now..
Quite often my temporary hand tool (accessed by pressing the space bar) is not working which causes me to move objects instead of panning around my Photoshop canvas. I don't know what causes it, but when I shut down my browser (Firefox 3.6.19) everything returns to normal in Photoshop and I can pan around the canvas again using the hand tool by pressing the spacebar shortcut.
When I open reopen Firefox I can use the space bar short cut but only for a few minutes and the problem occurs again. The regular hand tool (accessed by pressing H) is working fine all the time.
This is a shortcut that I use so very much and would really like to know how to fix this issue.
I'm using Photoshop CS5 and Mac OS X 10.6.8
AskeSo Firefox or something loaded in Firefox is eating key events.
