No Hard Disks found when installing

Hi,
Because I have a new PC that has a motherboard that has a kind of RAID controller onboard that is not (yet) certified by Sun, I've been trying to install Solaris 8 on a somewhat older PC. It's a P133 with 96 MB RAM and a 2.5 GB HD (IDE).
Altough the Configuration Assistant finds my HD and CD ROM (and there are no conflicting devices), when the Web Start Solaris Installer looks for a hard disk, he reports: "No hard disks found on the system. Please see your documentation."
I've been trying to change parameters in the BIOS of my PC: set hard disk mode from LBA to CHS or Auto, but I keep getting the same result. What is also funny is that I can issue the 'format' command after the installer stopped. There I can use 'fdisk' and I can create x86boot and Solaris partitons as I like. (I cannot format them though.)
What 's going wrong?
Best regards,
Dominiek

Did you try: destroying the "x86, Solaris" pair, re-booting, running installer, recreating "x86, Solaris" and re-starting the installer with "/usr/sbin/c0d0_isntall"? I have to do that EVERY time...
HOWEVER !!
Your drive might have a drive manufacturer LBA scheme installed - which may not be compatible with your BIOS LBA scheme (docs can be found on www.westerndigital.com). Frequent disk errros is one symptom.
You should have the install disk for your particular hard-drive. It will indicate whether a drive-manufacturer LBA is installed. You BIOS setting is of course a separate issue.
1) If you have an existing partition: * do not alter the LBA scheme *
2) In general, partitions with an Operatitng system installed when LBA was enable must have the exact same LBA (by BIOS manufacturer, BIOS version, or hard-disk manufacturer) SUPPLIED AT EVERY BOOT. Some OS's ignore the BIOS's LBA offering.
3) The LBA-written data is NON-REVERSIBLE. LBA written data is, in general, PER-PARTITION. You must do a complete backup, format, and restore to change you LBA scheme.
4) If you don't know your complete LBA status - you should be concerned. In general, move away from LBA when the opportunity arises.
You might contact your motherboard manufacturer upon the matter of obtaining a BIOS upgrade. Also: what brand HD do you have?
Hope that help,

  • Error message: no hard disk found

When i click a link in outlook i get the message "no hard disk found". Everything else works perfectly. I can't click away the message, keeps coming back.

Does the problem link download a file? Firefox remembers the last download location on a site-by-site basis, and it's possible that location existed temporarily but no longer exists.
If it's not a download, if you hover your mouse over the link, does Firefox show that as part of the URL (down toward the bottom of the browser)?

Now during installation the error comes "NO hard disk found".
so every time to work in solaris i have to put SUN OS CD.
I think it needs drivers of SATA hard disk. but how can i copy it coz solaris OS doesnt open unless i put Solaris CD. how can i put drivers?? Even i am not sure whether its the problem related to drivers?? pls help.

  • Insufficient disk space when installing Weblogic 9.2MP3 on Solaris 9 or 10

Insufficient disk space when installing Weblogic 923 on Solaris 9 or 10 using bin file installer :
    bash-2.05$ ./server923_solaris32.bin -mode=console
** Insufficient disk space! The installer requires:
** 132MB for the BEA Home at /mnt/home2/i817284/sol_usphlcsx0003/wl92 and
    ** 664MB temporary work space at /var/tmp/aaa1baaJn.
** There is only 0MB available at /mnt/home2.
There are more than enough (several gigs) of free space in all those directories as verified by df -k...
Solution for jar file doesn't work, obviously ;)

bumping this up in hopes of an answer....
it appears that the jar installer works fine, the problem is with .bin installers only.....
in install docs found proposed solution of "use df compatible with used posix" - that must be a joke, right ??
we're supposed to replace df that comes with OS with some version that works with posix used by the installer ?? Really ?@?@?

  • Underestimating disk space when installing applications

    Dear all,
I am attempting to intall a windows-native application upon the bootcamp partition of my hard drive, which was allocated 20GB. I have 12GB of free space remaining, as reported when I click "properties" on my C: drive. The installation wizard for this program informs mee that I do not have enough hard disk space to install the program, which requires 200MB, and I cannot complete the installation without convincing this wizard that there is, in fact, sufficient disk space. Any insight into why the wizard might underestimate the space available? Thanks in advance.

Not a very common one... a biotechnology application called Primer Express. The manufacturers of this program have not been very helpful.

the computer doesnt take Mac OS X disk 2 when installing tiger

Is it showing error message during GarageBand install?
If so, I had this type of problem, and solved it by restating computer in Safe Mode (to enter Safe Mode you should hold "Shift" button on start-up while Apple logo appears).
Only trouble for me - my MacBook display was so dim in Safe Mode, that was a problem to see anything on the screen. But still, there are only few buttons to click during 2nd disk setup and I guess that "dark safe mode screen" could be only Mac laptop problem.

    Hi @bodger50,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Deskjet 2542 gives you the error: 'the specified module could not be found' when installing to USB, on Windows XP.
I would recommend going through the steps in this post, Re: Install Error "The system cannot find the file specified" (hpzprl40.exe). When you get to the printer install wizard section, just use the full feature software and drivers found at this website, HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers. As the printer install wizard is only for Windows 7 and up.
Hope this is helpful, and thank you for posting!

If it's a generic SATA HD you'll probably need to format it for Mac using Disk Utility.

  • HELP"apple application support not found when installing itunes after a hard drive crash and replace

HELP"   error "apple application support not found" when downloading itunes after a hard drive crash and replacement????

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Hard disk error while installing Yosemite

    Hi all,
While installing Yosemite, my Macbook 17 in, I got an error after the reboot of the computer.  The screen shows "Installing on "Macintosh HD", and the remaining time ..... and then, I get the message saying, "OS X cannot be installed on your computer.  File system verify or repair failed.  Quit the installer or restart your computer and try again."
I have been restarting a couple of times, and I get the same message every time.  I cannot go back to my previous installation of Mavericks.  While holding the option button and rebooting, I am presented with only two options .. OS X Installer and the recovery disk.   Where did the Mavericks install on the Macintosh HDD disappear?
Choosing the first option (OS X Installer) does not boot into the OS, takes me back to the same routine thatI described above and gives me the error that I talked about.  Choosing the latter gives me the Disk utility.  I verified the disk's permissions, and the utility found some errors that it was able to fix.  I proceeded to verify the disk, which informed me that the hard disk needs to be repaired.  When I clicked on repair disk, the repairing went on for some time and it gave me an error message saying, "Disk Utility can't repair this disk.  Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk and restore your backed up files."
What are my options now?  How do I retrieve the data that I have on the HDD?
My hard disk was not giving me any problems all these days while I had Mavericks OS installation on the laptop.  It is not clunking now....  It seems to be fine.  Do you think, there is some problem with the hardware inside the HDD?  Or is some data on the HDD corrupt which caused it to not to be repaired?
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Kamran.

Press X at startup to force a boot to Leopard. Press Eject, F12, or hold the trackpad button during startup to eject the Windows CD.

  • X230 Hard disks issue when deploying in corporate environment

We got a batch of X230 laptops recently and i've cam across an odd problem. Wuhile deploying win7 I hit some problems with the disks. We wont be using the SSD disk that comes preinstalled so w will install Win7 on the large disk. Heres my problem. some laptops have differing hard disks. when diskpart is run on one the SSD is shown as Disk 0., when its run on the other with differetn disks its shown as disk 1
    Laptop 1
    Seagate - 298GB disk (ST320LT007)
    SanDisk SSD - 22GB -
    Run Diskpart
    Disk 0 : 22GB
    Disk 1 : 298GB
    Laptop 2
    HGST - 298GB (HST725032A7E630)
    Samusng SSD - 22GB (MZMPA024HMCD)
    Run Diskpart
    Disk 0 : 298GB
    Disk 1 : 22GB
Obviously this will be a problem when running a deploy job. It will require 2 build jobs and the tech will have to enter the BIOS to see what hard disk is installed. Any idea why this is like this. Am I able to change this in the BIOS!

    Guys,
Several months on now has anyone found an answer to this?
I have exactly the same issue where I want to be able to choose which classification each disk goes to.
I understand that by design you want to abstract the paths and LUNs etc from the users, even the admins, but you need to be able to say "this disk is Gold, this disk is Bronze".
Ideally you would be able to change the classification while the machine is running and have that change trigger a storage migration. VMM could then choose the best path for that classification and migrate that disk while leaving the rest of the VM where
    it is.
I understand you can perform a storage migration after deployment and in 2012 R2 you can specify different paths per disk but I really don't want myself or my other admins worrying about paths, just classifications. Within storage migration you cant just
specify a classification and this approach seems to go against the very design.
Basically I don't think Microsoft has thought this one through very well.
Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Sata or hard disk drivers to install windows 7 in Hp Pavilion 15-b101sd

I didn't see the steps I had to do to install windows 7 in the computer, so I formated the hard disk and I cleaned it.
But when I try to install windows 7, the installation program ask me about the driver of the hard disk which I haven't. I've tried to find it, but anyone of the drivers I found it doesn't work and I can't pass the page of the driver of hard disk installation.
Do you have that driver? or what is the solution to install the win7?
    Thank you so much!

    Hi:
If you are installing W7 from a USB flash drive, make sure you have the flash drive plugged into the USB 2 port (on left side) your notebook has.
These should be the sata drivers you probably need to install if Windows still asks for disk drivers...
I have zipped them up and attached them under Attachments below.
