i am trying to do a windows repair for windows xp on a compaq mini cq10 101sa but after pressing f8 to except the license agreement it tells me windows can not find a hard drive and cant continue

Hi:
You need to load the sata ahci drivers to install XP.
Please read this guide below and look at the Intel section.

  • How do I get my external hard-drive recognised by iTunes?

I have 2 external hard drives, but now iTunes 12 will only recognize 1 of them. When I plug in the second for a back-up, it doesn't show up on the screen. This just happened with the latest upgrade to iTunes 12. I have a MacBook with OS X Version 10.7.5.

So there is no itunes 12. You must be having this problem in the future LOL
So you library is on the external? Make sure itunes is set to look on that drive for it, after checking to be sure the drives have different names, do into the prefs/advanced and set the location of the itunes library file/folder
I ran itunes on an extrernal for years its always been very reliable.

  • Getting a Seagate hard drive recognised over WIFI

I have recently bought a Seagate external drive. It works fine for Windows over WIFI. But for the Mac, it only works when directly connected and is not recognised over WIFI - the drive is not listed under devices.  It did when I first started the drive yesterday, when I managed to copy all my files onto the external drive via WIFI.  But not today.  Perhaps related to the software update I ran last night?  What's the problem?

I'm a little confused by your description.  It sounds like you said that the drive works normally when connected to your Mac but is not seen by other pc's or Macs connected to your network.  Just plugging in an external drive to your Mac does not automatically make it a shared drive.  Go to System Preferences > Sharing and make sure file sharing is turned on and that your external drive is listed in the shared folder list (click on file sharing in the services list).  If not then:
Connect external drive and power it on.
Unlock the Sharing pane in System Preferences by clicking on the lock icon and enter password.
Turn on File Sharing if it is not on.
Add you external drive by clicking on the [+] button below the Shared Folders list.
Set up user permissions for the drive as desired.
    Lock pane.

  • How do you get Windows 7 to recognise AE Hard drive?

I have an AirPort Extreme with an external hard drive in HFS+ format. I can access it fine on My MacBook Pro, but Windows doesn't recognise it.
I don't know how to use Windows 7, can anyone tell me how to get the hard drive recognised on it?
    Thank you =)

    yes, worked fine under WinXP.
now i am able to access the TC using the AirPort Utility app, that's some progress.
but still unable to map to it with File Explorer (had it mapped as Z when running WinXP)
this is my first time with Win7 ... here's what i'm doing to map
    open file explorer
    select map network drive
    drive = "z"
    folder = "\\<NAME OF TC>
    select 'connect using different credentials'
    select Use Another Account
it then prompts for User Name and Password
... i input the TC name for User Name and the password ... error message that windows cannot access the device
i had not problems setting it up in winxp, but that was a long time ago and it was all saved in local memory, i'm sure i'm missing something obvious, but can't see where i'm going wrong
    thanks!

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

  • Internal hard drive not recognised, but has a lot of data i need on it!HELP

    hi all
i'm on mac pro, quad core, leopard 10.5.2.
basically for some reason my hard drive was working fine, then one day last week i turned my mac back on and the hard drive will not initialize anymore.
i've gone into disk utility to try and repair disk. but it's listed there, not the name i gave it but 'disk1s1'.
i then go to verify disk and it comes up with this error.
    *Verifying volume “disk1s1”*
    * /dev/disk1s1*
*Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: fa31c0*
*Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.*
so i started looking for data recovery software, i found one called data rescue and its found alot of data on it, some i dont need (like stuff i deleted a long time ago), but i have 3 logic project folders full of projects i need to get finished for releasing!
but the thing with data rescue is... it is renaming all the fle aiff001, aiff002 etc etc, and for logic files this is no good as you need the files named as they were other wise it won't recognise the files and all the individual parts won't load up!
so i need a way of either making the mac recognize my hard drive again so i can drag everything off it and reformat it, or use a data recovery software that does not rename the files?
    can anybody please HELP!
    cheers
    BOOM!

SMART is largely snake oil in implementation and practice and it's entirely commonplace for a dead drive to report itself functional and vice versa. I've seen Seagates whose heads were audibly grinding against the platters claim they were functioning normally, and I've seen others that said they were failing go on to provide years of reliable service. SMART status is a ballpark guess at best.
yes I understand that but I wouldn't trust a drive with a non-verified SMART status. as you say, it might continue to function but chances are pretty high that it will soon fail altogether. that's already happened to the OP who should consider himself lucky he can get anything off the drive at all with Data rescue. professional data recovery is of course also an option but a very expensive one. at least when I tried to use a service like this once about 5 years ago they wanted to charge me a small fortune. not sure what that would cost these days...

  • Toshiba hard drive no longer recognised on Macbook Air

    Hi everyone
I wondered if you could help? I have a Toshiba external hard driver (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00560Z2ZM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=U TF8&psc=1) which I purchased last November. I reformatted it and it worked swimmingly with my Macbook Air and any PC I plugged it into until a few weeks ago. It still works with PC's but my mac doesn't recognise it at all. It doesn't show in my desktop or disk utility and I have made sure everything is selected (i.e. 'show external hard drives') but still no luck.
The blue light is on but it no longer makes a noise, although it still does when plugged in to a PC. From what I can gather it can't be a hard drive fault, surely?!
Does anyone have a solution to this? I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks
    Laila
P.s. this is my first post so apologies if it's in the wrong community etc.

    Hi rivraff,
If you are having issues mounting an external hard drive volume, you may want to see if it shows up and/or can be repaired in Disk Utility; you may find the following article helpful:

  • Windows 7 and iTunes doens't recognise iPod Classic 80g after wipe clean hard drive and format fat32.

My iPod Classic 80gb every now-and-then goes funny, and eventually iTunes doesn't recognise it. In the past I could put it on disk mode, and do a reset, but some times I would have to format (FAT32), uninstall and reinstall iTunes, so it would work. Now it happened again, this time wiped clean the hard drive and formatted. However windows 7 and iTunes still doesn't recognise it. Tried many tips online but nothing works. All software I have used don't see the hard drive, so can't format it again.
I can get it on disk mode but even then windows and iTunes don't recognise it. When connecting to laptop my machine goes boiling hot. Left it connected with iTunes on for  few hours but still no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello @turingtest2.
Following your threat I realized it was time to have my hard drive changed. My iPod classic has a Samsung Model: HS081HA, 80gb/3600 rpm (real hard to get it open and check out!!!).
My question is if I DO HAVE to buy exactly the same hard drive, or I could get away with another manufacturer and model, such as Toshiba (80 GB MK8009GAH FOR iPod Video 5th 5.5th iPod Classic 6.5th 7th Gen Hard Drive - Ebay listing)?
I ask you that as these Toshiba hard drives are considerably cheaper.
    Help much appreciated.

  • I have a new hard drive and itunes and my computer (windows XP) no longer recognise my ipod. I also had the problem with the registry keys not being present but this has now been fixed. However i can no longer link my ipod up with itunes.

When I first tried itunes with my new hard drive there was the problem with the registry keys but something also flagged up about needing a signed driver. Is this anything to do with why Itunes and my computer no longer recognises when my ipod is linked up? Whatever i try under 'devices' my ipod is never available to sync up. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • External hard drive which used to be recognised by my new iMac is no longer being recognised?

I recently bought an iMac. I have an external hard drive which was formatted to my old MacBook Pro. Initially it worked fine on my new iMac, but all of a sudden it is not being recognised by it. Any ideas what I can do?

The drive is probably probably starved for power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power. Get a powered USB hub and I suspect your problems will go away.
If you purchase another hard drive for a desktop Mac in the future, consider one that is self-powered. Much less troublesome.
Some people have reported that, if they reformatted the external drive for Mac (most are formatted for Windows), the existing drive may work without a hub. You can refomat the drive with Disk Utility. Select Macinstosh Extended (Journaled) as the format. This is a great strategy if you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer.

  • Time machine will not recognise WD hard drive connected to AE

I have a WD hard drive connected to my AE by ethernet cable. While I can access this drive wirelessly via Finder, both Airport utility and Time machine do not recognise this drive for back up purposes. Is there any way I can change the setup to enable time machine to work?
    Thanks - Eric

BTW, MobileMe won't be able to backup your entire hard drive.

  • My external hard drive is not recognised on my mac book pro

my external hard drive is not recognised on my mac book pro

    Hello all -
similar situation.  Unplugged external hard drive and all to take the laptop on a trip.  On return, I plugged everything back in and keep getting this message:
Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Iomega_Ext_Drive”.
Files can’t be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be read-only.
You may need to repair or reformat the disk using Disk Utility. If the disk can’t be repaired, you must use a different disk for backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk.
    open time machine preferences.   -
I tried this and tried "repair" but that didn't work and I still get this message.  Any advice?  thanks

  • Macbook Pro no longer recognises my Verbatim 47519 640GB 3.5" USB2.0 External Hard Drive

    Hi,
I have got a Verbatim 47519 640GB 3.5" USB2.0 External Hard Drive that I have partitioned since transferring from a PC to my Macbook Pro and have been successfully using the external hard drive since my purchase.
In the last week, my Macbook Pro has suddenly stopped recognising the external hard drive and I cannot access anything.  There is nothing wrong with the hard drive as I have been able to plug this in to 2 Windows PC laptops and the drive works fine, I can access the Windows side of the drive with no problems whatsoever.
I have also tried to Disk Utility and also the Preferences from the Apple logo and nothing.
Has the recent update caused this to happen?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.....

That will work.  Bring your MBP and external HDD to a genius bar and have them check it.

When you say enclosure, do you mean the actual casing of the HHD? I was warned against pulling anything apart!?
Yes.  I do not know who or why you were warned but I have taken an installed many HDDs in enclosures.  It is not brain surgery and just requires a few tools.  Usually just a #00 Phillips driver is required.
    Ciao.

  • HT1473 I want to keep my music on my external hard drive to free up room on my computer how do i get itunes to recognise the hard drive to play the music?

I would like to keep all my music on my external hard drive but I can't seem to get itunes to recognise my hard drive.  How do I get itunes to recognise my hard drive so I can play the music off there rather than copying the files over each time?

Click the icon to launch iTunes
Immediately press and hold down the shift key
Keep holding shift until asked to create or choose a library
If iTunes opens normally close and go back to step 1.
Browse to the iTunes Library.itl file you want to open.
