No HD picture when viewing in Quicktime

I can't get a picture when I view quicktime HD video. Primaily Apple movie trailers. The sound is fine. Its perfect. I only get zig zag lines during HD video. The only way to see a trailer is if it has regular video. I have quicktime 7.5. This is very fustrating. It didn't happen until I re-installed my windows XP from scratch. This is the only software that no longer works right. Is there something I did wrong?

With that one, it might be worth trying the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section from the following document. (iTunes uses QuickTime for video playback so the same basic troubleshooting procedures apply.)

(After making the settings change, restart QuickTime prior to checking if the change has had any effect.)

  • Good video, poor still picture when export to QuickTime Movie

I exported my project from Final Cut Pro. Had video and still images. When viewing expoprted video in QuickTime Movie, the video looks good but the still images look distorted (pixulated). The images were ~2.0 MB each. If I make the viewer window for QuickTime Movie small, then images look good. I imported the images from IPhoto and if I open a big windom for viewing the images in IPhoto, they look great, just not in my finished video. Please help. Thanks

Thank you so much for replying.
I am really new to Final Cut Pro (Have version 5)

My video setting is: DV NTSC 48kHz using NTSC (720x480)

  • Video plays out of sync when viewing in Quicktime

I have rendered out a H264 file using the vimeo hd 1080p 23.97 preset. The file plays wonderfully in windows media player and out of sync in Quicktime player. Also when I upload to Vimeo there is one section that is out of sync, and that is what made me play it on my computer using quicktime and the windows media player. Then I noticed it plays great in wmp and not so great using Quicktime. What can a person do to remedy the sitiuation?
    Thanks,
    John Lorince

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for replying. I uploaded the same video to Youtube with no sync problems. I deleted the video from vimeo. This is the first I have seen this with.
    Thanks,

  • In Photoshop Elements 8-I want the file name to show when viewing Thumbnails and not just dates.

In Photoshop Elements 8 i want to see the file names under the pictures when viewing thumbnails not just the date. Is this possible?

Anyway, if it's the organizer look under the View menu to enable the data that is shown under the thumbnails.

  • Movie width expands when viewed in QT7, blurry

    Hi Guys!
New to the forum and to iMovie, although lost in both for DAYS. Just got iMovie 4 to edit clips from client's dvd for use in Powerpoint and Web movies (not making movies from camera or for TV viewing). Everything is blurry in iMovie--clips (pulled from VOB with MPEGstreamclip), iMovie-generated titles, even photos from photoshop (regardless of orig resolution). Whatever export format or program my edited clips are view in, the ratchet effects remain.
Plus, even though when previewed in iMovie the height/width ratio is correct (albeit blurry), when viewed in Quicktime (7) or exported, the movie stretches widthwise, further enhancing the funhouse mirror effect.
I'm hope this stuff is elementary to you all--cause my head is about to fall off. Can anyone offer some wisdom?

IMovie display is just a preview -- it is not full quality display.
The same applies also to QT Player -- by default it shows a low-resolution deinterlaced image. You have to turn on high quality via the display options. ...And doing so may reveal those interlacing comb lines that are normal but look ugly on a computer monitor.
Always judge the quality via a TV monitor. A computer monitor can just imitate the correct interlacing, overscan or gamma.
The .dv clip is PAL 720x576 or NTSC 720x480. It uses rectangular pixels so by default the aspect ratio is wrong when viewed via the QT Player. iMovie automatically scales the image to (approximately) the correct ratio.
You can scale it to square pixel ratio in QT Player. With PAL you must scale to 788x576. With NTSC scale to 656x480. Often this is then cropped to PAL 768x576 or NTSC 640x480.

Several of our iPhone users in the UK reported the problem this morning, and as the Apple fan in the office I've got the job of resolving the issue
The original Excel was an old .xls file, but I have saved it as a .xlsx and the problem still appears
I haven't spoken with our developer yet, but I assume he has created the Excel file using some programming tools rather that directly using Excel
In the meantime I have created a simply spreadsheet with 8 cells contain values
In the first 4 cells, I have formatted them using Currency, and have used the currencies USD, DEM, GBP and CHF
In the remaining cells I have formatted them using the Accounting option, using the same currencies
When I review the spreadsheet on the iPhone (or iPad), the first 4 remain the same yet the last four all show the £ symbol
I have now changed the Region Format of the iPhone to United States, and when viewing on the iPhone the bottom 4 values are now all showing the $ sign!
If I had created the spreadsheet I would have put the Currency code in a seperate cell and purely used a numeric format for the number, and there would be no issue.  That might be the only solution
Yes, the Director has the full MS Excel app on his Windows 8 device, but I can't expect all of our clients to go and do the same, in business many of them will have the iPhone
We may have to change the way we produce the report because of Apple's failings here, and it's not the first time that we have had to change something because Apple devices can't display them properly
In business, submitting a potential job contract only for the recipient to get the wrong idea of the costs is a major concern

  • When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

So somehow this plugin container is doing soemthing funky with the windows system. I'm the same poster as the last 2 post

  • Emailed movie I made on Iphone 4/ios6 views/runs correctly on QuickTime on my pc, but when viewing on Iphone in emails sent does not. Any clue?

Made a bithday greeting in four 9 second segments for a relative. Edited in QuickTime as one 36 second movie.
Emailed and views/runs correctly when I open up sent in email on my PC, but when viewing same (sent) on I phone only shows first segment and balance of time (27 seconds) last frame of first segment.

I have got an E72 but I still find that most of the apps on the OviStore are of no use.
Practically it is better to spend time on internet for s60 apps that look into the ovi store.
Also I am not able to find the Advanced Communication s/w that came free with my E72 in ovi store ...

  • When viewing picture on iPhone from iCloud does it download onto my phone

when viewing picture on iPhone from iCloud does it download onto my phone

A download to your HD will use space on your HD.  As to the 5gb limit "because of the way iCloud stores your content. Your purchased music, apps, and books, as well as your Photo Stream, don’t count against your free storage."

  • Photos look different in Photoshop than when viewed with Picture Viewer

I am running Windows XP, using Photoshop CS2, with a Samsung SyncMaster LCD monitor. I have recently noticed that my picures look different when viewing with Picture Viewer than when the same picture is opened in Photoshop. The photoshop version is much lighter while the pic viewer version is darker. I want to make sure of what I'm sending to my online printers. Do I have color setting wrong? My color setting in Photoshop are: sRGB IEC61966-2.1, U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2, Dot Gain 20%, and Dot Gain 20%. And preserved embedded profiles for RGB, CMYK, and Gray. Is the problem with calibrating my monitor, and if so, do you know of any free calibration software? I'm on a budget.
    I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Well, it surely is a problem with your monitor settings, but, forgive me for saying this, mentioning "sending stuff to the printers" and then asking for free calibration software is a bit naive. If Adobe Gamma, the settings in PS itself and the color calibration in Windows don't cut it, then your system is seriously bent in terms of color and some other steps are required first.
    a) reset your monitor to its default color temperature and brightness
    b) get rid of any color tweaking your graphics card may introduce
With a clean slate, create a color reference image (pure colors, grayscale gradient) with all color calibration turned off and see how it looks at the system level and in PS. Now you can begin to adjust settings everywhere and re-enable color profiles until the results match in sRGB space.
The rest is pretty much unpredictable. Unless you gain access to the exact color profiles of the target device (the printer) and your monitor is properly hardware calibrated, there will always be minute variations. The only thing you can do is to solely rely on your visually aligned sRGB setup and have all color profile adjustments and color space conversions done at your printer. However, even that's assuming you do not wander too far off the default values and the sRGB is indeed "intact".

When I have more than one tab open, if I click on a picture to view/enlarge, say eBay, and I click on the items photo to enlarge it, when the window opens to view the photo, Firefox crashes. I also notice while looking at a web page, the pinned tabs to the left of the bar are constantly reloading for some reason, The green circle starts going round and round for no reason even though the tab is not being viewed. Both problems seem to have started after the last software update.

  • I am using using IDVD to create slide shows.  When viewed on my computer the pictures are clear and of high quality.  When I burn the slide show to a disk and play it back, the pictures are blurry and of poor quality.

I am using IDVD to create slide shows.  When viewed on my computer, the pictures are clear and of high quality.  When I burn the slide show to a disk and play it back, the pictures are blury and of poor quality.  Is there a setting that controls the quality of the burn and if there is, where do I find it?  Thank you.

The Mac software - iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD are not the best with the Ken Burns effect (zoom in/out effect), so you might want to minimize that effect; also, if your subjects are wearing stripes for instance, that will have an effect if you zoom. There is better software available for slideshows; however, I do not know of any that is free (and does a good job). I've used Photo to Movie for some time; it does a fine job even in HD, but you have to pay for it. I use iDVD extensively, but only to add a menu, theme, special effects, etc. and then to burn it.

  • Unaasociating TIFF viewing with Quicktime

After installing Quicktime for Windows it automatically associated Tiff viewing in IE. I do not wish to have Quicktime handle my TIFF viewing needs. I would rather use Windows picture and fax viewer but even if I change the default association in folder settings it still opens in IE which I guess wouldn't be a problem but when I print them from IE it prints a blank page. I have turned on print background image in IE thinking tha would resolve the problem but still nothing. How can I restore the file association to Windows picture and fax viewer?

QuickTime Control Panel Browser tab MIME Settings
Under Images - Still Images remove the check mark for TIFF
Quit and relaunch your browser for these changes to take effect.
