No HDMI audio out after Windows 7 Upgrade

I have a DV4-1123US with an Intel Integrated Graphics Card(X4500, I think), and Intel High Definition Audio HDMI.  After upgrading to Win7, there is now no longer an option to set HDMI to use as audio.  In other words, HDMI no longer shows up in the Audio Devices window.  Video works fine.  It seems that I am not the only one having this problem, but does anyone have a solution?  Is this something that we just have to wait on an updated driver for?  I downloaded the most recent video driver from Intel, but Intel for some reason does not recognize my audio driver...

Never mind, problem solved.  I have the Intel chipset for video.  I went to Intel's website, they have a utility under chipset support to tell you if you have the latest driver.  I ran the utility, it told me what I needed, I downloaded it, and after reboot, I have sound through HDMI.

  • Radeon HDMI audio out defaults to disabled

A quirk that I've been noticing on my system for a while now is that playing audio via the HDMI cable on my Radeon 5450 doesn't work just after my system has booted (i.e. on the tty console, I do startx manually). Alsamixer doesn't show the output as being muted, and application that play sound (such as aplay /dev/urandom) don't throw an error, but nothing is heard from my monitor's speakers.
Now, if I run startx and try playing audio in an xterm, it starts working. It continues to work if I quit my X session, up until I reboot my system. I've tried weston as well, because that does DRI modesetting like Xorg does, but sound refuses to work if I run that; no matter what I do, no sound can be heard from the monitor speakers until Xorg has run at least once.
I figured it must be something that specifically Xorg does when it detects HDMI outputs as it starts up. This would seem to be supported by the fact that it's possible to mute the audio out for a HDMI output connector via an xrandr command, like so:
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio off
(and likewise with "on" for enabling again).
Another interesting pointer is a control shown by
    amixer controls
when ran against the HDMI audio "card", called "HDMI/DP,pcm=3 Jack". The value of this control is "off" when ran before Xorg is started (i.e. no sound), and "on" after Xorg is run (i.e. sound working). This would suggest that the audio "jack" for this output is not detected, despite the fact that there's a HDMI monitor plugged in.
Has anyone else encountered a similar situation with the HDMI audio out on radeon cards? And if so, how did you fix it? Is there a tool somewhere that can do what Xorg seems to do without needing to startx (i.e. NOT xrandr)?
I realize that for most people, audio will only be played after a graphical X session was started anyway (i.e. a music player application), but Xorg won't be the main windowing system forever, and sometimes I like playing music on my console without having to startx (currently using the motherboard's onboard sound until I can fix this), so starting and quitting Xorg just to "unmute" the audio on the HDMI connector seems a long-winded workaround. Plus, it seems quite strange that the kernel can do modesetting on the HDMI display just fine but seems to need a userspace application to tell it when to enable the audio part.
Any pointers, info or docs as to why this is a thing or how to work around it (without Xorg, please ) would be appreciated.
(NB: I've tried looking at the Xorg source code, the result was me getting lost in there with a headache >.< )
    Cheers, D^2
EDIT: A bit more poking around:
    - Changing the DDX (i.e. to something like xf86-video-modesetting) doesn't affect the sound starting to work after Xorg is run; it would seem this rules out anything weird poking done by xf86-video-ati, so it looks more like the sound enabling does happen at the xrandr level.
    - The adformentioned amixer control for jack detection is a read-only property, I can't set it using amixer ("Operation not permitted").

I did what is said here but audio will not work.
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f16ef16a-2e5c-4725-97e0-9ae1f947c86f ro nomodeset radeon.audio=1
    My alsa-info is http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=0eb0e … 26897b908c
Notable is the fact that when running
    $ aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
there is no error but the program finishes instantly, rather than being busy for 1.43 seconds which it usually takes to play back that sound.
    speaker-test -D plughw:0,3
also rapidly progresses to the next tests.
alsamixer only has one option: "S/PDIF:ON"
One more info: I also have an on-board sound card, which uses the same module, so I disabled it in BIOS.
I'd be glad to have my audio back.

In Snow Leopard it was an option to send pics from Preview to iPhoto, but now it is greyed out if I right-click on the pic. I have searced and tried everything, but I cannot fix it, so does anyone have a fix for it? Please :-)

I can offer no help but would also like to see this issue resolved.  Firstly, it would be useful to know if this problem is seen by everyone.  When viewing photos in Preview, with thumbnails in the sidebar, right-clicking on any of the thumbnails results in this:
Prior to the upgrade to Lion, "Send to iPhoto" was not greyed out and worked as expected.

  • Can't access old ver. 9, 11 & 13 clips after Windows upgrade

In Sept. 2014 I downloaded PE 13 from B&H, worked fine and was able to access old PE9 & PE11 clips.  In Dec. 2014 had problems with Wind. 7 Home Ed. and had to upgrade to 8.1 (decided on Pro).  Installed 8.1 Pro end of Dec. 2014 and bought PE 13 DVD from B&H to reinstall after I backed up my hard drive.  Problem after install of 8/1 Pro and installing PE13 from DVD I can't access and restore old clips from 9, 11 & 13.  Tried everything I can think of....any suggestions PLEASE!

Very good, I completely understand.  Please understand "I am not a computer geek!"
With the old computer system, you have Premiere Elements 9, 11, and 13 projects. And, you import media into each and see thumbnails for each of your imports in the project media area of the program (in version 11 and 13, called Project Assets).  CORRECT!  Please as we go forward I have the PE 13 that was downloaded from B&H and worked perfectly with my previous assets in PE 9 & 11.
When you go to open a project in one of these programs and go to the project media area, do the source media thumbnails still show as before with image in the thumbnail? Or does the thumbnail have a display of circular arrows? If the present as before, can you drag the file from the project media area to the Timeline? If you cannot, it that the problem? NO!  (First info is when I set up my new PE 13 after copying all data to a 1T desk drive and loaded Windows 8.1 Pro to replace my Windows 7 Home Edition, I set up the PE 13 and used 64 bit as suggested.)  NOW...When I locate my previous Project Assets on the 1T drive they show as "red blocks" with a play arrow in them where previously were thumbnails, but I can't retrieve them.  As such there is nothing to add to the timeline.  Last night I added to the NEW PE 13 a 22 min program I'm working on.  I have all those assets, thumbnails and everything is working as wonderfully as it did in 9, 11 and downloaded 13.
Now in response to a previous question you asked:
    1. When you open Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace, go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, do you see a list of presets when you explore
the Presets" field there?  NO.... I can get to /Computer but there is no QuickTime there!  I did download QuickTime yesterday after your suggestion.
    2. You wrote
Restarted PE13 and received the message "The selected file cannot be played becuse your system does not have the required compresser/decompresser (codec) installed.
Where are you getting the selected file---- from Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace Project Assets to where it was imported originally from a hard drive save location?
Or other? What is the specific full name of one of these files that is giving the error message?
With everything I've been trying, I'll have to recreate this series of events to answer directly.
When you did the switch from Windows 7 Home to Windows 8.1, did you go 64 bit to 64 bit or 32 bit to 64 bit in operating system?  Help me with a way to determine what the bit was on 9 & 11!
Were two separate computers involved or did you manage to change the operating all on one computer?  All on one Computer
The major focus for me right now is to make sure I know what file triggers the ".....not have the required compressoer/decompressor (codec)"? And to know that
you are in the Premiere Elements 13 Editor and not the Organizer 13 workspace.  Help me understand!!!!  I know the difference between "Add Media", "Project Assets", "Organizer", "Editor" and "Workspace".  But "Project Assets" and "Workspace" are part of "Editor", so I don't understand your question.

  • [Solved] HDMI audio broken after upgrading to kernel 3.13.4

    Hi,
Yesterday I upgraded to kernel 3.13.4 from 3.12.9 and
HDMI audio through my nVidia GTX660 card stopped working.
The problem occurs both with nouveau and nVidia drivers.
My system is an aged Intel quadcore Q9400 on a Intel motherboard.
By typing "aplay -l" I get:
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: 92HD73E1X5 Analog [92HD73E1X5 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Strangely the alsa card number changed from 1 to 2
    after the kernel upgrade.
I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Thank you very much, silenceleaf.
I managed to make it work with some tweaking like you said.
But only after a deep power cycle, unpluging any power to the system.
Just turning off the machine's power button was not enough. Odd!

  • S20 Lan Network drops out after Windows 10 upgrade

Upgrade went ok and everything seems to work ok, but the network drops out after some downloads. Adapter gets disabled and cannot be enabled unless i perform a reboot. The network adapter is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. Installed the latest Lenovo System Update but that did not find any new drivers.

The network speed went down from approx 50 Mbps to 1.8 Mbps after the upgrade! So it is surely a network driver problem.

  • No HDMI audio out option, only Airplay

    Hi everyone,
Hoping to get some enlightenment here as I am at my wits end.   Here's my setup:
    Macbook Pro (mid 2011 era)
    Belkin MDP to HDMI converter
Monoprice HDMI cable to Denon AV-1912 receiver
Prior to upgrading to Mavericks and numerous updates to my Apple TV, I was able to plug in to my Denon receiver via HDMI and get display and sound options pop up through System Preferences, no problem.  Everything worked beautifully.   So there is no issue with my sound card not supporting HDMI.
Now, whenever I try to connect through HDMI, I can only get the display to work.  Trying to bypass the internal speakers through the Sound panel in System Preferences yields no results.  My Denon receiver only shows up in the Sound Output panel as an Airplay option, not as HDMI.  When I select it as Airplay, the receiver automatically switches to the Airplay (Internet Radio) source and kills the display connection it had made with HDMI.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to either:
    a) Disable Airplay in my Denon receiver OR more apropos to this forum,
    b) Get HDMI restored as an option in my Sound Output preferences.
    Any suggestions welcomed!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I have the same issue. Setup is:
-- mid-2012 MBP (non-retina) running 10.8.5 (including the very latest supplemental 10.8.5 which was supposed to fix a different issue with an HDMI audio connection not working after a Mac's wakeup from sleep).
-- MBP connected to a Harman Kardon BDS 577 AV receiver's HDMI input (this is a 5.1 receiver, connected to 5.1 speakers).
-- MBP and receiver connected via PNY mini-DP-to-HDMI adapter, which both its Amazon description & review explicitly say supports passthrough audio on Macs, and a high quality AmazonBasics HDMI cable (ditto).
-- The receiver's HDMI output is connected to an Epson EH-TW3200 projector's HDMI input (projector is Euro version of the US Epson 8345; it has no audio whatsoever).
-- The Epson is set to mirror the MBP display, and the MBP's internal display resolution is set to match the Epson's (1080p), which appears as "Epson PJ" in the menubar's Displays pulldown.
    1) The issue we're having here is very clearly different from the one with the HDMI connection not working after wakeup (numerous thread about it in Apple Discussions & other forums), since there the HDMI option for sound output device is available (in the Sound Preferences panel, the equiv. menu-bar shortcut and in Audio MIDI Setup and VLC Audio --> Audio Device submenu), but didn't work properly after wakeup.
    2) With our issue, when everything is connected but the projector is turned off, sound works fine. I have the option to select HDMI in all the aforementioned locations (the device is called "HDMI TV"), and, when chosen, sound is properly output via the AV receiver according to the source material (5.1 with both DTS and AC3 encodings work fine, as does stereo).
    3) As soon as the projector is turned on, video appears fine as expected on the projector, mirroring the MBP's screen, but the HDMI option disappears from all above lists of sound output devices. If I was in the middle of a movie on VLC, audio switches to the builtin speakers on the MBP.
    4) Trying to trick the sytem by defining a new audio aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup when the projector is off,  having it include the HDMI device, and then trying to choose it when the projector is on doesn't work -- the aggregate device is grayed out and can't be chosen.
    5)  TjoffenF's solution above doesn't help me: For me VLC behaves exactly like the rest of the system, so using it doesn't help. I tried several versions of VLC, including old  (1.1.2) & new (2.0.9, 2.1.4).
    6) Jackmo69's solution doesn't work for me either: The order the various components are switched on and/or connected doesn't matter. As soon as the projector is on, HDMI audio option simply disappears and the MBP stops using the HDMI port for audio.
    7) Generally, this seems to be a problem with something called EDID. This is the protocol which HDMI and DVI devices use to tell each other about their capabilities (resolution, audio supported, etc.). Somehow the Mac thinks the HDMI device it is attached to has no audio at all, so it falls back to its internal speakers. I initially thought the problem was with my AV receiver  -- whether or not the projector is turned on, it should report its own EDID, not the projector's, so I shouldn't have seen the "Epson PJ" option, right?
    8) I contacted the local tech support for Harman Kardon. They hadn't heard of an issue with their receiver, but don't have Macs. From their POV, which sounded reasonable, if the issue occured with a PC laptop, they'd agree that their equipment was the culprit. They lent me a a Windows7 laptop with a builtin HDMI port (Dell Studio 1558) for a week to test.
I performed hours of experiments with  it, replacing the MBP with the Dell, all other things in the setup being identical with the exception of the PNY adapter (same AV receiver, same projector, same cables, same VLC version, same source files).
    9) The result:
With the Dell, all the source files output audio via HDMI to the receiver with no issues, and turning the projector on or off has no effect on the audio. To me, this proves that the issue is the Mac, probably an HDMI driver issue. AFAIK the PNY & similar adapter are simple mechanical adapters (the actual video signals are identical), so given it transmits audio fine from the MBP (when the projector is off) I don't see how the adapter could be the problem (I don't own a TV, so couldn't test with one).
    10) Extensive googling yielded a couple other people with similar problems using various Macs (earlier but still post-2009 MBs and MBPs as well as a Mac mini), projectors and AV receivers. Their solutions were to (a) run TOSLINK audio seperately from the Mac to the receiver (not an option for me, since my receiver accepts TOSLINK only for an audio-only source) or (b) use an EDID emulator device, which spoofs the EDID so the Mac will agree. There was at least one person who had the issue appear after upgrading fromOS X 10.6 to 10.8 (Mac and other components didn't change), which is yet another indication this is a Mac driver issue.
    10) I really don't like the idea of EDID emulators; it's a kludgy solution (needs its own power supply and additional HDMI cable), expensive ($100-$150), and not available locally. Reports on them say they don't always work.
    11) I'm very much ****** at Apple at this point. The only solution I can see right now is to buy a media streamer with HDMI output, to circumvent the problem -- not an ideal solution, since it means adding a middleman, but cheaper and and more likely to work then an EDID emulator. (Incidentally, an Apple TV wouldn''t work for me as a streamer because it supports very few video codecs & file types -- not that I'd be happy to give Apple more money to fix a problem they're reponsible for.)
If anyone has since found another solution, I'd realy appreciate hearing about it.

  • Pulseaudio & tsched=0,random whitenoise since change to HDMI audio out

    Hi all
I had a fully working mythtv box with pulseaudio. Some time ago, I remember I had to add tsched=0 to /etc/pulse/default.pa like in the following line
    load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
because I had random white noise when skipping sections in music/video. I used analog out of my Creative Labs SB Live! at the time. Now I have a Nvidia GT 520 with HDMI out, connected it and changed some settings in alsamixer, pavucontrol as well as mythtv in order to have audio out through hdmi to my TV and it worked.
But since then I have again those random white noise issues. I start watching a recording and when I skip for 30sek it might still play normal, but randomly and with very high probability like every third or second time I skip again there is no sound anymore, but a very strong noise blasting out of my TV speakers. It is nearly unbearable, so loud.
So basically it is the same thing I could earlier work around with the tsched=0 parameter, but after searching hours in google I could not find anything better/else than setting this parameter which I already have since very long time.
Does someone have an idea where to start searching for the culprit?
    TIA

Ok, so I have had some time to devote to this. Since this was a a new install of Arch I decided to just reinstall again to wipe out anything that I might have added to cause further compication to the solution. I am sure I am missing something obvious as aplay shows the card:
    $ aplay -l

    My Alsa-info output is here:
    www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=04cdccbef389c4663f9db42d4d4a754321bf3fc3
I have tried numerous howtos, tutorials and posts to attempt to solve this issue, but no luck. Here are a couple of them:
    http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthr … ?t=1565479
    http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HO … ,_or_GT240
A couple of things worth noting:
All four channels are Mmuted (MM) each time I boot within alsamixer. There are no sliders on the four channels. They are either muted or not.
I have the HDMI input in HDMI1 on the TV, but I can move it to another if needed.
Since I am really unsure what would be needed beyond the alsa-info output I will hold off throwing irrelivant system logs and output, Please let me know what information would be helpful and I will post it.
I would really like to get this solved, so anyone willing to give a shot at helping me solve it would be most appreciated.

    Asus VG236 Monitor
    Windows 7
    MSI P67A-G43 Motherboard
    Yamaha RX-V371 Receiver
I have two Twin Frozr iii 2gb 6950 cards and am attempting to use the HDMI on the video card solely for 5.1 audio out to my receiver while using video through the DVI jack of the same card directly to my monitor without success.
-Audio functions if I run the HDMI from the card into my receiver, then out to my Asus VG236 monitor.
-Audio functions when I run from the card to my receiver then out to my plasma tv.
-Audio functions if I have the DVI run directly to the Asus VG236 monitor and HDMI to the receiver then plasma tv (only in dual display and the tv must be on for audio to function this way. If I turn the tv off even though the receiver is still on the audio stops working and windows sound lists the 'AMD HDMI Output' as not plugged in).
-Audio even fuctions when I run DVI to the monitor and HDMI to the receiver, then out to the HDMI port on the same monitor but the monitor will only run at 60hz this way even when DVI is selected on the monitor, as though it defaults to the HDMI when dvi and hdmi are both plugged into the monitor.
And if i run the hdmi to the receiver "HDMI IN" port without using the "HDMI OUT" port from the receiver to anything, like my tv or monitor, the sound doesn't work and in windows sound the "AMD HDMI Output" is listed as "not plugged in" .
I purchased this monitor for the true 120hz capabilities, the HDMI on this monitor doesn't support 120hz, the maximum is 60hz. DVI is required to run at 120hz. I don't see any option in windows sound settings or CCC to resolve this.
I have also tried disabling onboard audio in BIOS with no effect.
For now i'm running the audio out my MOBO jack through an optical cable to the receiver but optical only supports 2.1 sound.
Any suggestions you can offer would be appreciated, thank you

  • Airplay video and audio choppy after Yosemite upgrade

i can not play music or audio reliably using AirPlay after Yosemite upgrade, it's quite choppy until I turn off Bluetooth mouse.
Has anone come across this issue or figured out how to fix it.

I've had a similar issue with a not very fluid stream of mirrored or extended display in Yosemite. Even my iPad's mirror image came out shoppy. So I followed some threads advice and turned off bluetooth on the AppleTV and now I can even play games without having to look at the iPad.
Even streaming a movie from my Mac is possible in mirrored / extended mode (if it's nothing too important as there are occasionally frame drops here and there) but very few in comparison with bluetooth on.
Hope this helps. I'm sure Apple will have a fix ready soon enough.

    Anyone else seeing this?

  • Audio Lost after Leopard Upgrade on PB G4

I have to admit first off that my machine did have the original "sound looping" problem that launched with the HiRes Powerbooks a couple years ago. I'm not sure if this relates, but it might in some distant way. It was fixed in 10.4.5
However now after I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard I have lost all audio.
Using the keys to change volume shows the sound icon with it at full screen and the sound wave picture part will either be full on or gone depending on the button pushed. But the blocks remain full on. The sound icon on the menu bar is grayed out but full. And in system preferences, it says that there are no options for my internal speakers at all, but the level slider is grayed out and all the way up.
    External speakers don't work either.

Good to go. I just needed to shut down my system entirely and reboot.
    No problems.

I updated mid 2012 macbook air to 10.8.5 and now the hdmi out is carrying any audio. I have always used a moshi thunderbolt to hdmi adapter, and internal monitor speakers.
