No hiberation mode or battery saving mode in HP Steam 7 tablet

Hi,
There's a problem with my HP Steam 7 tablet where I can't enable power saving mode for some reason.  I click on the power button but the battery will drain off in a few hours unless I have to manually shut down the tablet which is annonying.  Is there a way to fix this issue?  Thanks.
This question was solved.

We had a good size thread about it all here but I cant seem to find it, so I'll give you the short version. 2 things are known to prevent the cpu from sleeping and drain the batter when the tablet is in sleep mode.
One is the audio driver, the workaround is to keep the volume at ZERO (This is equivilant to mute).
the second is bluetooth/wifi (There is an explorer process that is getting stuck on), the work around is to turn airplane mode on when you arn't using the tablet.

  • OpenCL How to use both GPUs in battery saving mode

    Hello everyone,
    Currently I'm developing a software using OpenCL under OS X 10.6.4.
    The galaxies (n-body) application provided by Apple is able to query and use both the 9400M and 9600M GT of my Macbook Pro. The interesting thing is, it can even do so in battery saving mode i.e. when the 9400M is the display device and the 9600 should be turned off. Looking at the XCode project and source code it just does:
    return_value = clGetDeviceIDs(NULL, CLDEVICE_TYPEGPU, 4, mdeviceid, &count);
    To get a device count of 2.
    My Makefile based project also links with -framework OpenCL. Executing the same line of code yields just the 9400M though.
    Since the NVidia samples show the same behaviour I guess there is a difference in the way the XCode project is set up.
    Thanks in advance for any hints!
    Kai

    Just found out the following:
    It is possible to utilise the 9600 in battery saving mode for calculation purposes.
    All you need to do is to create an OpenGL context and iterate over the virtual screens like so:
    GLint i = 0;
    CGLContextObj ctx = CGLGetCurrentContext();
    while(CGLSetVirtualScreen(ctx, i) == kCGLNoError) {
    i++;
    After doing that, a call to clGetDeviceIDs yields two gpu devices:
    unsigned int count = 0;
    cldeviceid mdeviceid[32];
    clGetDeviceIDs(NULL, CLDEVICE_TYPEGPU, 32, mdeviceid, &count);
    printf("Found %d GPU devices...\n", count);
    Test environment:
    Macbook Pro (first unibody, w. 9400M + 9600M GT).
    OS X 10.6.4
    Explicitly settings the pixel format attribute to allow for offline renderers wasn't necessary in my case.
    Unfortunately this solution sounds rather like a bug than feature, so Apple might 'fix' it in the future.
    What is more, being required to carry around an OpenGL context might is not possible in every case.
    Would be nice if we could just decide which card is used for display purposes in high performance mode, then there would be no reason to fallback to these kind of workarounds...

  • Missing Battery Saving Mode

    Hi, friends!
    I was fiddling around with my 9360 and I realized that I don't have the Battery Saving Mode option. I know that I should since I'm running 7.1.0.336, right? I don't think that I did anything wrong in installing the OS. How do I get that option? Is there something I need to do?

    It is the 7.1.0.342 that has a Battery Saving mode for 9360 and unfortunately, its not available with Globe as our Carrier is "not so" updated with OS.

  • Using both power saving mode and offline mode caus...

    So I am having a very strange problem. I have been using the Situations App (formerly Nokia Situations) to automatically put my phone into offline mode, and power saving mode over night. 9pm to 6:30am.
    Recently the phone as started refusing to leave the offline mode in the morning. Even if I try to change the profile manually it says "Unable to change profile". The only way I can get out of offline mode is to reboot.
    I uninstalled Situations, and manually put the phone into offline mode and power saving mode. By the morning I had the same issue, stuck in offline mode until reboot. So it's not the App causing the problem. I've tried a soft reset, same problem still.
    I also noticed that over-night (from fully charged before 9pm) to 6:30am I used about 70% of my charge. (A combination of power saving mode and offline mode is killing my battery!)
    I would have to go to work and immediately put my phone on charge! I.e.. 12 hours of offline + power save has drained my battery almost completely.
    Last night I decided to use the Situations App to put the phone into offline mode, BUT NOT activate power save mode.
    This morning the phone had virtually full charge and it had no problem returning to online mode. So it's ONLY if I use BOTH power-save and offline. (Tonight I will try using power-saving mode and NOT offline mode to see if it's only the power-saving mode causing the issue!)
    If I manually enter offline+power-save mode, and then try to return to on-line/non-power-save mode, relatively quickly, i.e.. Not over-night, everything is fine. It's only over night the problems start!
    Any help?
    Rob
    PS. I also have the problem where using HSPA+ causes my phone to drop from the network and stop being able to receive/make phone calls. But disabling HSPA+ works around this for now, I think this problem is unrelated however.

    I have a similar problem. My 808 PureView loses 70% of its charge overnight if I leave it in normal profile without power-saving. To deal with this issue, I started using the situations app to put the phone in power saving mode overnight. That solved the problem (although I never put my phone to offline mode). This is a weird problem because throughout the day my phone doesn't use 70% of charge, but it does overnight while doing nothing!
    I have also experienced the second problem, losing cellular and internet connection, on my 808. I have started a thread to deal with this issue.

    I believe it is a firmware bug that causes this problem.

  • Symbain Anna N8 is slower w/ the power saving mode...

    For some reason, the N8 seems a bit slower with the powersaving mode disabled
    For example, it takes a bit more extra time to open an app with the rotating dial at the center, whereas if I were to open the same app with the powersaving mode turned on, the same app would open right away without any delays.
    I am mostly okay with leaving the phone on the power saving mode, except that I use the "always on clock" function on my N8. And there is no way to enable the always on clock without turning off the battery saving mode..
    And of course it goes without saying, but I have formatted my device multiple times and with the same result. There is currently 40gb of free space on my N8 w/ the micro sd slot filled, so it is not like the phone has storage issue either.
    All the latest upgrade to the phone have been installed (Symbian Belle is not avaiable in Canada, where I live in)
    My mother also has a Nokia N8 and she also has this issue, although she prefers the powersaving mode anyways.
    Any help with this issue? I just want to have a "always on clock" while keeping my phone in the battery saving mode
    or somehow make the the N8  w/ the power saving mode disabled, as fast as the same phone w/ the powersaving mode enabled".
    I do not care about battery life, since I can already get enough battery w/ the powersaving mode disabled.

    Nokia Situations, which you can get at http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-situations will give you the functionality you desire. I'v attached a screenshot showing that both Power saving and Vibratating alert can be selected together.
    The idea of the app is to automatically switch profiles according to preselected conditions, so if you can predict when you need your phone to be in power saving mode (eg during work hours) you can set it up accordingly, but if not you can also select the profile in the normal way from the first homescreen.

  • Power Saving Mode In q10

    is there a power saving mode in q10?

    This is a Blackberry..... the Q10 is the most energy sipping model with the biggest battery.... you don't need a power savings mode.
    If you are nomophobic about a dead battery, consider an MoMax battery pack.

  • N8 - Power Saving Mode

    Hi,
    I got a bit problem here. My N8 will automatically activate the POWER SAVING MODE once the phone battery goes low. I've set the power saver mode query to "ON" so that the phone will ask wether to activate the power saving mode or not. When I choose "NO" the phone will automatically turn the power saving mode in the background without displaying an icon (the battery icon will appears as a "moon"). The big clock screen saver is set to NONE, the theme effects switch to "OFF" and the light time out will change from 30 seconds (default) to only 5 seconds.
    Any idea or help? ThanX!

    Deactivate the Power Saver Mode via the power key is not working as well. The phone shows that the POWER SAVING MODE DEACTIVATED but the settings still don't change to normal. So far, this was the biggest problem with my N8. I really hope that the upcoming firmware of the N8 will address this issue.

  • N85: 'Unable to Deactivate Power Saving Mode'

    Hi,
    My N85 currently shows power saving mode (the battery icon has a moon symbol overlaid), and when I plug in any charger, i get the message 'Charging' followed by a message 'Unable to Deactivate Power Saving Mode'.
    The same message appears if I press the power button and select 'Deactivate power saving'. The message remains even though the battery is 100% charged.
    The phone appears to be working normally with full 3G connection, Wireless, Bluetooth etc all able to be controlled manually or via the profile.
    So...
    Did I do something to force the phone to stay in power saving mode? How do I remove this message? What effect does Power Saving mode have?
    Thanks for any clues!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    deep power saving mode is basically the mode when you battery runs low in order to preserve power, the phone shuts down all possible applications, reduces power to the screen in power saving mode you can still use the basic functions, but it should only go into the power saving mode when the battery is actually near empty its an awesome feature, but must be a bug in this case since you state that the battery is full, glad you found a solution

  • My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change?

    my iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change, I decided to change my faulty iphone 5 battery as i was out of warrenty, I managed to chance the battery with no problems (I Think), when i put the phone back together and tried to power on with the power button, nothing happened.!  i connected to itunes and it powered on, displaying the connect to itunes screen (recovery mode) all was going well, the phone was restoring, the image of the phone restoring and loading up was displayed on the screen, when it finished it restarted but to show the connect to itunes screen again, it is stuck in the recovery loop. i tried the steps with holding the power and home button etc, none worked.! now when i try to restore, it extracts software but then, ' the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured (3194)' comes up, any ideas out there???? and Happy Christmas to Everyone ,

    Hello Andyoneill9,
    It sounds like you are trying to restore your phone but keep getting an errror message 3194. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
    Error 3194 or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4451
    Resolution
    Important: If you see one of these messages and need help updating or restoring your iOS device, Install the latest version of iTunes and try to update or restore again. After that, follow these steps if you need more help.
    Check your "hosts" file
    After you've updated iTunes to the latest version, you can check the hosts file to be sure your computer can contact the update server. Use the numbered steps below if you’re on a Mac.
    If you’re using a Windows computer, follow steps in this Microsoft support article, noting that resetting the hosts file will affect software services that rely on hosts file redirects. If you're using Windows on a business computer, consult your IT department to be sure applications will still work correctly after resetting the hosts file.
    In the Finder, choose Applications > Utilities.
    Open Terminal.
    Enter this command and then press Return:
    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
    Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer and press Return. You won't see text appear in the Terminal window when you enter the password. Make sure you use a nonblank administrator password.
    Terminal will display the hosts file. Navigate using the arrow keys and look for an entry containing “gs.apple.com”.
    Add the # symbol and a space ("# ") to the beginning of the gs.apple.com entry.
    Press Control-O to save the file. Then, press Enter when prompted for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor.
    Restart your computer.
    Try to update or restore your iOS device again.
    This is the first troublehsooting step to try, so there are additional things to try if needed you need them.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Mirroring LG Monitor stuck in Analog Power Saving Mode

    I have a macbook from 2006, and just attained an LG L1900J LCD monitor. When I connect the monitor to my macbook using a DVI to VGA Cable attached to a Mac mini DVI to VGA adapter I get no picture on the monitor and the message "Analog Power Saving Mode" appears before the monitor goes black and then switches into sleep mode.
    I have used the Switch application to try and fix the issue, and I have also adjusted the resolution many times as it appears my Macbook recognizes the monitor but an image just won't appear on its screen. I just ordered a Male to Male DVI cable and mini DVI to DVI adapter to see if a digital connection would work. Does anyone know if this will work or of another solution to my problem? Thanks.

    So I ordered a Mini DVI-DVI Dynex adapter and Male to Male DVI Cable off ebay for very cheap, and to my surprise, this set-up seemed to shake the monitor out of "Analog Power Saving Mode" into "Digital" since its a digital set-up and now I have a fully functioning, mirroring monitor. So I would suggest switching to DVI to correct your issue.

  • LG Monitor stuck in Power Saving Mode

    I just purchased an LG W2252TQ LCD monitor and I am using a mini-dvi to dvi adapter and a DVI cable to connect to the monitor. My macbook detects the monitor, but when I connect it, the monitor enters "Digital Power Saving Mode" and is asleep. No picture whatsoever. - I saw another post who was having similar trouble and he solved it by using a mini-dvi to vga adapter, but I'd prefer to use a digital connection. Any help?

    kiamatthews: I bought the same LG monitor for my daughter's MacBook and I couldn't get it to work. Then I read your post and resigned myself to buying the mini-dvi to VGA adapter. Luckily, I stubbornly tried one more time and after a bit of fiddling I finally succeeded in getting it to work. (My daughter has the same setup as you i.e. LG W2252TQ LCD monitor connnected to a MacBook using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter and a dvi cable connected to the monitor.) I'm a relative newbie to Macs, so I'm not sure I've remembered all the steps, but here goes.
    When I first connected them, the LG showed the background from the MacBook, but nothing else (no icons, no windows, etc). Eventually I brought up system preferences - displays, and some sort of monitor resolution window appeared on the LG, but it was different than what was on the MacBook. The "displays" window on the MacBook did indicate both the MacBook monitor and the LG, which it showed as 2252TQ or something like that. Anyway, I checked a box labelled "Show displays in menu bar", which then put a monitor icon on the menu bar. When I clicked on that, there was a line allowing me to select "mirror" which I did. Immediately, what was on the MacBook display appeared on the LG. After I picked myself up off the floor, I was able to change the resolution for the LG to its maximum setting and after about 2 seconds of blank screens, it reappeared with everything working as it should.
    I hope that the above description is sufficient to get yours to work as well.

  • Nokia N8: Possible Power Saving Mode Bug

    Dear All,
    For the past week, I've change the way I use my Nokia N8. I decided to set it up in power saving mode during the evening. There is no point for it to be on 3.5G if nobody is using it. Unfortunately, I seem to have hit a problem. At the moment, my N8 is using a pay as you go sim card from O2 and this card is in the phone 24/7.
    When I activate power saving mode, the phone re-registers with the network and the maximum speed it will have will be EDGE. In the morning, when I take my phone I disable power saving mode and the phone re-registers again with the network.
    Having said that, on multiple ocassions, my phone showed some worrying symptoms. For example, a few das ago, when I disabled power saving mode, the phone did not show the 3.5G icon and I could not make any phone calls. The coverage was up and down. You might say that, it did not show 3.5G because you had no 3.5G you idiot. That is not true, where I live, there is 3.5G everywhere.
    I was shocked that I could not make any phone calls. After a few reboots and taking SIM card out, I managed to get the phone in working order.
    Today, the same thing happened. I managed to fix it just a few moments ago. It seems that the power saving mode option has an implementation problem or O2 does not like the way the N8 registers to the network when you enable and disable the said feature.  Has anyone encountered this???

    @m80116, this may well be a solution, but could be problematic if in a weak reception area where only Edge is available ? You could lose data connection completely ! I tend to use Dual mode, and generally don't have an issue, but certainly for anyone living and working in a very strong 3 or 3.5G area it may work very well, wish I had the luxury of being able to use 3G Only

    Hi
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
    Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
    large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provocing it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    176x144
    480x360
    640x480
    720x540    960x540
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
    Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
    Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
    That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
    In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
    (if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
    If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
    Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • How to turn on Optimized Battery Health Mode

    I recently bought a G505 laptop and a popup window tells me I should use the "Optimized Battery Health Mode".
    However, nowhere on the popup does it tell me how to do this.
    I have searched online and also with the Lenovo Solution Center and find there are all kinds of battery modes
    that are spoken of and various ways to access them. However, I cannot find "Optimized Battery Health Mode" anywhere!
    I see "Balanced Mode" and "Power Saver Mode" but no "Optimized Battery Health Mode" anywhere.
    If I go to the Lenovo Solution center, I cannot find battery settings anywhere under the system tab.
    Can anyone tel me how to get my G505 laptop into "Optimized Battery Health Mode"?
    Many thanks!

    I finally figured it out. If anyone else needs to do this here how I did it.
    1) Right click on the battery icon on toolbar, then choose power options
    2) From here click on "Change Plan Settings"
    3) From here click "Change Advanced Power Settings"
    4) This opens up a small window, choose the "Lenovo Energy Management" tab on top
    5) Click the "Enable Lenovo Energy Management" button
    6) This opens up yet another window with the option for "optimized Battery Health"
    Wow, they sure don't make it easy do they?
