No Home Sharing iTunes 11.0.4.4 Windows 7

I recently replaced the hard drive in my son's laptop, which is running Windows 7. Installed iTunes 11.0.4.4 and dowloaded his purchased items through the cloud with no problem. I turned on home sharing with his apple id, but I can't see any other libraries from other computers on the network. These other computers see his laptop, and when home sharing is enabled on them with his apple id I'm able to transfer songs from his laptop to those computers, but nothing in the other direction.

All Apple related programs are allowed through the Windows 7 firewall. Tried the reboot/home share log off and and back on suggestions again. Already went through the apple support paper. And I still can see and share from the laptop to other computers. They don't show up as shared libraries in itunes11.0.4.4 on the laptop. For what it's worth, all the other itunes versions are older.

  • Could not connect to " home shared iTunes library name "

I'm having an issue with iTunes/ Apple TV. Actually it has been ongoing. I have a particular iTunes library shared on a private subnet (together with the Apple TVs) from a Mac Mini. I can connect and play content any time with iTunes on another computer 100% reliably. But around 60% of the time when I try to connect to it from any of my four Apple TV (2's) an error comes up saying "Could not connect to "<home shared iTunes library name>" ", "Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV. the iTunes version is up to date and iTunes is running". The answer to those questions (as always with such messages is obviously 'yes':
Yes of course we are on the same network. If I wasn't, the library wouldn't have even shown up in the first place before selecting it
Yes iTunes as always is the latest version thanks to Mac Software Update
    Again 'dah'. See response #1
If I restart the offending iTunes library the error is resolved (although sometimes it does require reboot of the Apple TV) but could reappear as early as within the next 24 hours. This issue has been occuring for a very long time however appears to be increasing in frequency. It occured as well on the Apple TV (v1).
Anyone with clues on what's going on here?
    Thanks
    Greg

I agree that the first debug point should be the network. Though like Greg, I use a Mac Mini to serve up movies to a couple of Apple TVs. From the 'problem' Apple TV, I could see other iTunes movie libraries on other Mac(s), and those would work/play fine. It's only when I try to connect to the iTunes Library of the Mac Mini that I have this issue. It's almost like it's asleep, and doesn't respond. Though I can mount the library folder, and play movies from other Macs w/o a problem while the Apple TV still has the problem.
As Greg mentions, closing and re-opening iTunes on the Mini solves the issue (though only temporarily).
The only difference that I have (non-consistency) is that my Mac Mini is an older model, and cannot be upgraded to run Lion (10.7.x) like my other Macs. The Mini is running 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.6.1 (32-bit). My Macs are running 10.7.3 and the 64-bit version of iTunes 10.6.1.
Is it possible it could be a 10.6 vs. a 10.7 issue? Greg, which version of OS X are your Macs running?

  • I have an external hard drive with a shared music folder, which I can access (from Home Sharing) and play music on my Windows computer. On my new Mac, I can see the drive in Home Sharing but not play any music. What's the solution?

I have an external network hard drive with a shared music folder (WD MyBookLive), which I can access from Home Sharing and play music on my Windows computers. On my new Mac, I can see the drive and the music in Home Sharing but the tracks will not play. All the other authorized computers in my home network show up in Home Sharing and I can play the content. What's the solution?

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  • Home Sharing iTunes 11.1.5/Mountain Lion/iOS 7

Since updating to iTunes 11.1.5 I am unable to see my shared libraries from my iPhone or iPad running iOS7.
When using the previous version of iTunes, the iOS devices were able to see the shared libraries, but had great difficulty connecting consistently.
The iTunes I am trying to share from is running on 10.8.5.
I have another Mac, running Mavericks.  That Mac can see and share the Mountain Lion's library.  The iOS devices can see the music from the Mavericks iTunes (also 11.1.5), but can not play it - each song scrolls by as if it has zero length.
All the devices are on an AirPort Extreme network.  The Mountain Lion Mac is wired and the rest are wireless.  Enabling the wireless network and disabling the wired network on the Mountain Lion Mac doesn't change anything, nor does signing in/out of Apple ID, restarting Music App in iOS devices or many of the other tricks that have been described.
Disabling IPv6 doesn't help, and the AirPort Utility can't see the base station with IPv6 turned off.  It's currently set to local-link only, as that solved othe IPv6 issues.

This may be extremely obvious, but I missed it, despite reading http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2972:
There are two places to enable Home Sharing.
I had it enabled in Preferences > Sharing Preferences
However, I did not have it enabled in File > Home Sharing.  As soon as I turned it on there, it asked for my Apple ID (which was already signed in to the iTunes Store and iMessage and numerous other locations) and then everything worked correctly.
I don't know if this is left over because I have been running iTunes since there was iTunes and have consistently carried over preferences as I upgrade machines.  However, this is a ridiculously awful interface.  I had presumed that I definitely had Home Sharing enabled, as I've clearly checked 'Share my library on my local network'.
Hope this helps someone else who has a similar issue.

  • APPLE TV second generation stetting - home sharing / itunes not working

I am sorry my message will be long but i will give all details to make sure someone can help me. AS i am fully lost in trying to resolve my problem.
I have APPLE TV 2nd Generation - Wifi work fine i can watch youtube etc.. but home sharing seems to not work, i tried everything i could find on the web and execute but still ..
    Here is what i have.
ITUNES account is set under my user accounts / apple tv sets into my same user accounts. Both home sharing are set properly.
But under computer i cannot see my itunes, neither itouch, neither any computer?
    INTERNET settings:
I have private IP, meaning each of my computers are under their own ip.
Computers plug in the internet modem.
WiFi router has its own IP and plug into internet modem.
Though under the router address on apple tv the network IP, router etc are different than the one on my computer when i do network setting DHCP. Both computer and apple tv are under DHCP. If i change all settings manually to match the computer setting with apple TV then i lose connections and do not get youtube etc....
I open all ports than apple was referring to.
Under itunes i do not see that little icon for home sharing on bottom corner right.
It is driving me nuts, as i want to use my library music and apps onto my TV.
I also want to use my itouch under my TV (apps and photos)
    Can anyone HELP?
To resume i want to see my itunes and itouch under my apple TV?
Example i have those tv apps that i want to watch on my big screen through Apple TV.
    Thanks

If you are using a Firewall on your XP machine then bookmark and use the Apple web site Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products or the blog post Enabling iTunes sharing through a firewall. Either of these web site should help you.

  • Home Sharing itunes 10.5.6

Ok, I'm trying to import a few songs from my laptop to my desktop. Desktop is running iTunes 9.0.2. (G4, OS 10.4.11) and laptop has iTunes 10.5.6 (macbook pro, OS 10.5.6) so I activated Home Sharing in the itunes 9 version, but can't figure out how to do so in iTunes 10-I did turn on sharing in preferences-is this the only sharing feature in itunes 10?
Also, I can see and play my laptop library on the desktop, but can't drag those songs into my desktop library, which is what I want to do. both computers are authorized to the same account. and, there is no "Import" button on the lower right of the iTunes window.
I want to do this because my ipod shuffle is synched w/the G4 library, and I want to put some of the laptop songs on there, but it won't let me.

  • Home Sharing iTunes to Apple TV, Songs Buffer Slowly

    Hello,
I need help I'm stuck in a dead end right now. Whenever I try to play music from my iTunes to my Apple TV (I believe it's the newest one in a small black box) through Home Sharing, the songs tend to buffer for a pretty long time. Even when I play an album, getting the next song to play takes a while to buffer. I know for a fact that it's not my wi-fi signal strength, my internet speed, and connecting the Apple TV through an ethernet cable makes no difference at all. I've also went into my router and changed some configerations as well by turning off firewall and adding Home Sharing as a virtual server, so it will bypass any interference. I'm using a Belkin N600 router by the way.
Also, what I found interesting is that, when I configure my router, enabling IPv6 seems to make playing songs from my iTunes to my Apple TV through Home Sharing extremely fluid and seemless. Yet, the downside seems to be whenever I want to play a song from my iPhone through airplay, the song will be come extremely choppy. When I disable IPv6, playing songs from my iPhone become seemless, yet Home Sharing seems to take forever to buffer the song.
Anyone have any ideas, or have similiar problems?

    Update: I found the problem.
All I had to do is go in my router and put these ports and TCP/UDP into the virtual server list on my Belkin router:
-TCP port 123 is used to communicate with a network time server.
-TCP port 3689 is used to communicate with iTunes while using the iTunes Library Sharing feature.
-UDP port 5353 is used by Apple TV for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
I believe that many people experiencing home sharing problems is due to their router. Especially Belkin routers. It seems to cause conflict with many Apple TV users who want to use Home Sharing when restarting the computer and Apple TV doesn't suffice. The way that the router talks to the computer and talks to Apple TV, the router can't seem to bridge the connects together. For me at least, by opening these ports in my router, everything seems to run fluid and no more laggy, glitchy, or dropped songs playing via home sharing.
    Also: turn off IPV6

  • How I fixed my Home Sharing iTunes Issue

I had a very old version of I Tunes running on a Windows XP laptop.
I upgraded my Iphone to IOS 7 today, my Apple TV too and decided to refresh my version of ITunes on my laptop to make sure it'd all still be compatible with IOS 7.  Everything stopped connecting to Home Sharing....
    Here's how it wasn't fixed....
    Degrading the iTunes version
Rolling back to a restore point
    Repairing the installation of Itunes
Doing crazy stuff on IPV6 to my network
    Here's how it was fixed....
    Uninstall iTunes
Remove all traces of Apple software from your PC
    RESTART
Go to Apple website and install the latest version of ITunes from scratch
DO NOT cut any of these steps out, if you do, it won't work.  If you do, it will fix your problem, guaranteed!
    Good luck

I was having trouble seeing my Nano 2nd in iTunes and was afraid to do this step; but it works. My Nano was updated to version 1.1.1 and now everything seems to work perfectly. Keep in mind you will lose everything that is stored on your Nano when you format it.

  • ATV not reading Home Shared iTunes when MacBook clamshell is closed

Perhaps it's not possible, but the guy at the Apple Store seemed to think it was.
I run OS X 10.6.6, iTunes 10.2.1, and have an Apple TV 2nd generation. My iTunes Library is on a Wi-Fi network drive (via Airport). Home Sharing was set up with no problem.
My MacBook's energy settings are set thusly: Computer sleep: Never; Wake for Ethernet network access: checked.
However, when I close the cover on my MacBook, my iTunes Library disappears on my Apple TV.
I can handle leaving the laptop open while listening to music and such. But if I could close it, I'd rather.

I use a MacBook Pro at work, hooked up to an Apple Cinema display. Not sure of its settings, but I can close the MBP and use the external mouse and/or keyboard to wake the computer up. Figured something like that should work here. And, like I said, the Apple Store guy seemed to think it would if, his words, I was running Snow Leopard.

  • Home Sharing - Itunes library does not load and jumps to Music

Hi, I have 2 itunes libraries on 2 different computers on the same network using the same apple id.  One of the computers is an IMAC and the other is windows.
On the windows computer when I click on the shared library (from the IMAC) the library appears from the IMAC.  When I am on the IMAC and click on the shared library (from the windows computer) it looks like it is searching then jumps the "music" library, that displays the current library on the IMAC.
    Can someone help....Thank You

  • Home sharing: iTunes 11 works with iPhone 5 not iPad 3, iTunes 10.7 with iPad 3 not iPhone 5

It's worth mentioning that both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have iOS 6.0.1.  I have a MacBook Pro on OSX 10.7.5 with iTunes 10.7 (now) and a Windows 7 64-bit box on iTunes 10.7.
In short, trying to get all my stuff to play nicely has been a total nightmare; and sadly is the reason I pay the premium for Apple stuff: I want it to all work.
Originally, the MacBook had iTunes 11 on it.  With iTunes 11, the iPad couldn't stream any content (copy protected or not), though the iPhone could via the home sharing feature.
After downgrading the MacBook to iTunes 10.7 using Pacifist, the iPad will stream, but the iPhone won't.
Amusingly, both the iPad AND the iPhone stream just fine from the Windows box via home sharing.
Anyone have any ideas?  This is getting pretty obnoxious now.  I haven't rebooted the MacBook yet, which is what I'm planning on doing now.
EDIT: rebooting the Mac accomplished nothing; iPhone 5 still won't stream, iPad is fine same as before the reboot.

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the syncing troubles?
