No home sharing on Apple TV (gen1) since itunes update 10.5.2.11

I was hoping that this issue would also be resolved with the latest apple tv update that brought the tv items back to apple tv, but no such luck.
I can not get the apple tvs (we have two) to connect with my computer since I installed the latest itunes update about 2 weeks ago. We had no problem connecting for a year prior to that!
I have done the following several times over and in various combinations, with no result:
- latest updates on everything
- made sure the itune logins/accounts are the same on computer and apple tvs
- unplugged, restarted the apple TVs etc
- factory reset
- made sure homesharing is turned on in both at the same time etc
- tuned home sharing on and off on the computer as well as the apple tvs, then restarted both etc
- restarted bonjour
- reset modem and router
- restarted my computer
- turned off firewalls etc
We have NO problem connecting to anything else and my husband's  computer (windows 7, 32-bit,) that has the previous version of itunes, still connects just fine to both apple TVs. Just not this one (Windows 7, 64-bit), which is the one I have all my stuff on and (used to) use on a daily basis to have audible content all over the house. What else can I try?
Incidently, the little icon on the bottom right of itunes that used to let me chose the speakers (computer, apple tv1 or apple tv2) is gone also, while it is still there on the computer that has the version before the latest update.
Is there a way to roll back the latest update?
Some help would be greatly appreciated!

The ATV gen 1 is not home-sharing aware.  Have you tried to remove the iTunes library from your ATV and then reconnect, then go to iTunes > devices > ATV and enter the digits that appear on your ATV screen.

  • Home Sharing with Apple TV does not work

Home sharing is turned on for both iTunes and Apple TV.  Yet no files are synced to Apple TV from iTunes.  I have tried turning Home Sharing off and on both devices several times. I have also re-installed iTunes.

    If on wifi try ethernet
Go to netstumbler or similar and get a network report, look for signal strength and noise
Make sure port 123 is open on router (refer to manual if unsure)

  • Trouble with home sharing after apple tv update

trouble with my home sharing after apple tv up date

Same here. iPhone, Mac Mini and Apple TV3 are all up to date. Logged in and out on each device and home sharing and airplay still don't work at all. Nothing shows up in the remote app. They're all on the same network and have been. The only thing I can think of is the most recent ATV firmware update, but why would my phone be unable to see my computer??
    Any secret commands to try?

  • HT200197 Home Sharing on Apple TV keeps disconnecting

My apple tv just recently stopped recognizing that my home sharing is turned on.  I can watch a full movie from my iTunes, but when it finishes, it goes to the home menu and when i go to the Computer app, it says to turn on Home Sharing.  Home Sharing is turned "ON" on my itunes on my computer, so i'm not sure why Apple TV doesn't recognize it, even when it clearly recoginized it as turned on 2 hours prior.
This started happening after i updated the Mavericks OS to the version 10.9.2 and itunes to version 11.1.5.  The only fix i have is to turn "off" home sharing in iTunes then to turn it back "on."  This seems to fix it in the meantime, but after another movie, it happens all over again.
Does anyone else have this issue?  It's pretty annoying to have to keep turning off then back on Home Sharing on my itunes.

I've recently had BT infinity2 installed and that was a joke! 2 engineer visits later and I'm still not seeing speeds above the top end of infinty1, I monitored the line very closely for the first few weeks and noticed a lot of sudden drop outs, got to a point were bt claimed they couldn't do any more and offered a deadlock however that's no good to me as it's quite rural here and there is no other provider!
Not that this would effect the ATV but I have had concerns over the quialty of the hub!!
I might call Bt and get there tech people to look into the possibility of it glitching ?
I know they can look at fault logs and see if it shows up anything?
Between us we have 3 bt hub set ups with Apple TV and all are encountering the same issue?
    A bit coincidental?

  • TS2972 Home Sharing on Apple TV (2) drops out after about 2 minutes

Home Sharing on Apple TV (2) drops out after playing iTunes music and photos for about 3 minutes. iTunes says Home Sharing is on, but the only way to get it going again is to turn off Home Sharing and sign in again to Home Sharing when it will work for another 3 or 4 minutes maximum. This happens with both computers on the network. Have turned the firewall off but it makes no difference. Any suggestions please

Going to try a signal booster this all started with the TV upgrade. The only reason for the network booster is because iPhone 4 freezes in facebook once and a while. I am trying to solve this problem for my brother my system works with my airport and imac with no issues yet. All brand new.

  • Can't access itunes store or home sharing on apple tv, apple tv 2 keeps saying that network time needs to be set.

Cant acess itunes store or home sharing on apple tv 2, keeps telling me that network time needs to be set. When I go to time zone section on apple tv - I chose a city...but still no luck. Apparently, can't do anything without the time being set. How do I set this up?

Yes, I did (turning off and then on again is a way of life for any windows user!). Actually, through a process of trial and error I have fixed the problem although I'm not very comfortable with the fix. For some reason, the OS X firewall is to blame. By relaxing the firewall settings to their most lenient, the iTunes store is now fully accessible via iTunes, and so is the whole of the apple website. Another added side effect has been that general web browsing is now lightning fast.
I'm therefore left with the (temporary) conclusion that my iMac's internal firewall is only capable of blocking access to the web resources of the people who created it, and slowing my web browser to a crawl.

  • Home sharing broken with 12.0.1.26 update

Today I updated both my computers to the latest version of iTunes, 12.0.1.26. Previously, Home Sharing was working properly, but with this update they are unable to connect to each other
With iTunes open on both computers, I can see the remote computer name within iTunes, but when I try to open it I get the message "Loading <computer>" and then nothing happens. The loading just keeps going and it never actually connects to the remote computer.
Both computers are signed in to the same Apple ID and have Home Sharing enabled, and as I said everything worked perfectly before this update. I ran the diagnostics on both computers and everything is good there. Here's the output from the diagnostic tests in case it comes in handy
    Desktop Computer Diagnostic (Server)
    Laptop Computer Diagnostic (Client)
The only thing I could think of would be if the update changed the ports that home sharing uses, but I have no idea for sure. Has anyone else experienced this issue and/or have a solution for it?

Hi Sterling, thank you for your reply
I've went ahead and have gone through those troubleshooting steps, however the problem still persists.
I thought the firewall would most likely be the problem, so I opened the incoming ports on both computers, however that didn't change anything.
Next thing I tried was configuring Connection Security Rules on both computers, allowing my entire LAN (192.168.1.0/24) as accepted endpoints, this also failed.
Finally I tried disabling the whole firewall temporarily on both computers, and when this didn't fix the issue I ruled out the possibility of it being a firewall issue
However, I have noticed that creating a Home Sharing connection from my desktop (server) to my laptop (client) actually does work, and I can see a playlist I created. So that's some progress. However, connecting from the laptop to the desktop (which has all my music) still doesn't work.
After this I went ahead and decided to use Wireshark to capture the packet stream of both the successful and failed connections. What I've noticed is that iTunes home sharing uses a series of HTTP GET requests to establish the connection to the remote computer. Connecting from my desktop to my laptop I see that 23 total GET requests are sent and are all ACK'd. However, connecting from my laptop to my desktop, only one GET request is sent, and it is also ACK'd. Here are two screenshots of the TCP streams. The first is the successful connection and the second is the failed. You can see in the first screenshot's HTTP header, I've highlighted that 23 requests are being sent. In the second screenshots HTTP header, only 1 request is being sent.
With this is mind, I believe I can rule out any network issues on my end, since iTunes is actually only sending one GET request from my laptop and it is successfully delivered, however it hangs there and doesn't continue. I believe this to be an issue with the iTunes software and I hope the iTunes development team can look into it. I think my next step will be to re-install iTunes to see if that resolves it.
