No HP driver to  allow the scan function on an Officejet 7410

Like an idiot I went out and purchased Mac OS X 10.5 the first weekend so I could be the "first on my block" to have installed it. Unfortunately, when I went to scan with my HP Officejet 7410 All in One, the HP prompts said I needed to install new software. I called HP and after getting through the maise in India, a technician in Canada said that Apple neglected to provide code to any third party vendor until a week before the new OS was made available to the public. Thus, until HP provides an OS X compatable driver for OS X 10.5, I have to run to Fed Ex to scan in documents. Isn't Mac OS X 10.5 grand??? Next time I will be sure to wait to purchase any new OS until the third party vendors have provided new software for the new OS. By the way aren't there any individuals who work for HP in the United States. I had to sign in in India to talk to a technician in Canada. What is this country coming to?

Just installed a HP Color Laserjet CM2320nf MFP printer, at the same time I upgraded to Lion. It prints fine, but I cannot use the scan functions.  I downloaded the most recent driver! Any help would be appreciated.

HP says that the drivers for your all in one print/scanner are downloadable from apple. For the scanner to use preview. image capture or the scan icon from the print driver queue.  I don't know how old your HP is, but I know that the newer Os from apple don't support a lot of older printers. You might be able find a third party driver that could work.

Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500.
HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs.
Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

  • How to use the scan function on a 4215i all in one printer

How do I use the scan function on this printer with windows 8. I did the installation but the scan function does not seem to wwork
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Do you have the Officejet 4215 series All-in-One printer?
If so, then there is no full feature driver for the printer.  The printer is installed using the Windows Update menu of the print drivers.  For information about using the Windows Update driver click here.
Do you have this printer connected via USB?  If so, then there are workaround methods to get the printer to scan, as the old software package is not available on Windows 8.  In the document linked above, scroll down to the section on how to scan with the Update driver to find information on how to perform these types of scans.  Hope this helps.

  • How can I use the scan function of Kyocera Printer FS-1020 MFP on MAC? OS X 10.6.8?

Try Applications/Image Capture to see if you can scan.

  • No longer able to use the scan function on Photosmart c4780

Previously when I opened my HP Photosmart C4780 Printer Scanner I would get a dialogue box which allowed me to choose whether to print or scan. This dialogue box no longer starts and I no longer get the option to select scan and can only choose to print.  I have been around the circuit of Print and Scan and Doctor and have downloaded and reinstalled the appropriate software several times all to no avail.  I can no longer find the software CD that came with the device. What do I have to do to be able to access the dialogue box which gave the opportunity to choose scan and specify the actions required?
Furthermore using Windows Fax and Scan will not work either, I simply get the message “Could not complete scan”.
The scanner does work as I can use the copy function perfectly well.

    Hi @Jumbob
    From your descriptions, it sounds to me like the issue stems from the software. Let's perform a comprehensive uninstall, clean things up and ensure updates are complete, then reinstall. Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome;
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted
Download the software and choose to save as, save to desktop > HP Photosmart C4700 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver
After the software downloads and extracts, open the temp folder again, use the instructions from step 1.
Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    Open folder Util
    Open folder CCC
If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have anon-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK
*Note: there is a space between the c and the /
If you have any difficulty with this step, please use this link to perform it another way. Restarting Windows Installer
Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tool < How to Delete files using Disk Cleanup
Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • How do I wirelessly reconnect the scanning function on my Canon PIXMA MG3350?

I recently bought a new computer without cd drive. I managed to wirelessly connect my Canon printer to the wifi network. When I wanted to scan a document today, I noticed it could not. I am trying to remember if I have been able to scan successfully since buying my new computer, but no such luck. The only conclusion I can draw is that something has gone wrong with the connection. Can somebody help?
    Thanks!

    Of course,
I am not seeing any error messages on my Canon printer nor on my computer. The problem is that I cannot even click the scan button on my computer in my printer application. This is why I would like to reconnect my computer to my scanner. Printing works no problemo.
I work with a MacBook Pro Retina operating system Yosemite and just updated to OS X 10.10.1. This update included one for printer and scanner. Scanner button still does not work.
Any help and suggestions are welcomed!

  • Solution for the scan function no longer appears in the HP Printer Icon.

    Buy a new Brother printer.

    Hi,
Click the Apple icon, then About This Mac and select Software Update.
Allow it 30 seconds, then click the top Store menu and select Reload Page.
If there is any HP or Apple update available insall it, reboot your Mac and check if you may scan then.
If the same persists install the following package and check again:

  • Will the scan function of an HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf MFP work with Lion?

I have a Macbook Air connected to a Windows Small Business Server 2003.  I can print on the HP 2320 fine with the Print & Scan utility, however the utility won't recognize the HP as a scanner.  The forums I have read on Apple regarding other HP all in one printers is that they can't scan.  HP's support forum is iffy at best; some locations indicating that a fix is due "late 2011", but sending me in a circular link pattern to find a solution.  I have tried downloading the HP LaserJet AiO/HP Director to no avail, even connecting directly to the printer/scanner via USB.  Downloading the drivers doesn't resolve.
Based on this HP link, I believe that scanning isn't supported.  I am dumbfounded by this.

  • Disabled scan functionality of HP Officejet 4500 Wireless with 10.9.1. HP says this printer is not supported for 10.9. Is there a solution?

HP Officejet 4500 Wireless with 10.9.1 - Problem is not the printer, just the scanner. The scanner seems to be working but the saved files are not good images, just a bunch of scanned lines. My printer shows up under Preferences>printers and Scanners.
I have found a clumsy work around  - accessing the scanner under Preferences>printers and Scanners allows me to produce a savable file. Problem is I loose functionality provided in the standard HP mode. Specifically I cannot change the image size. Doing that under Preferences>printers and Scanners just makes the window around the picture larger, it doesn't scale the image itself.
My HP connection is strictly with USB, I do not use the wireless feature.
HP tells me this printer is no longer supported for 10.9 Maverick. Is there anything else I can do to regain the scalable image size functionality with this printer/operating system combo?
    Thanks,

  • HP 3330 MFP scanning function doesn't work

I have a HP 3330 MFP wirelessly networked to (2) computers via a WPSM54G.  I am able to wirelessly print from both computers, but I am unable to scan from either.  When I open the HP LaserJet Document Manager, and initiate a scan, I receive a message "hp LaserJet Scan Control Viewer...Unable to communicate with the device.  The device is disconnected or powered off."  (The MFP is "on", and if I power the HP 3330 MFP "off" and "on", the result is the same.)
If I connect the printer directly to the computer(s) via a USB 2 cable, the scanning function does not work - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed.  (I also noticed in Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes, there are some printer functions (ie., Scanning, Fax) have been removed - since the Linksys printer drivers were installed on the computer(s); and Network HP LaserJet 3330 (shared) was added as the default printer.
Since the printing function works fine, I'm wondering if 1.) the installation of Linksys printer drivers on the computer(s), removed or altered the HP drivers/scanning function, 2.) if there is a printer driver that will allow the computer/printserver to recognize a scan command and/ or the printer, or finally, 3.) if the HP 3330 is simply not capable of perfoming all of the functions (scanning, faxing) that the WPSSM54G claims it is capable of perfoming...
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    saj

Got it working.  The problem was with the firewall (Bit Defender).  Once I turned it off, and connected the print server (wirelessly), the scan function worked like a charm.  (It would be nice - in a perfect world - if when the print server experiences a problem, the Linksys software/ drivers would identify the cause, and at least point you in the right direction....you know, something like "...can't communicate with device, try turning off your firewall")
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Scan function no longer working on my Printer

Recently moved locations and had to re set up my PC. Since then the scan function no longer works. I get the error message "Scanner reported an error", "Failed to open a session on the device". I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP drivers, i have checked the internet connections and all are working. Actually have had a lot of troubles earlier with the rinter and the scanner re wireless connections but hoped to have finally overcome these.
Not part of the problem but a real gripe as to what is the purpose of wireless devices when they never work as well as the ethernet connected devices, someone really needs to get this sorted <gripe over>.
Can anyone help me please to get my system back up and running. I surgent now as currently on paternity leave and need to get some administrative issues doen from home in the next couple of days.
    Many thanks,
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    StevieDoug,
Thank you for trying my recommendations, I believe this is a wireless issue. Let's go ahead and start troubleshooting the network:
I would like you to shut down the Router, Printer and Mac in that order. Wait atleast 60 seconds, then power on the items in the way they were shut down. Re-attempt the scan. Was this successful or are you still getting the error message?
If you are still getting the error message, let's try Pinging the Mac and testing the connection, click on the link below:
How to Ping on Mac OS
If pings are successful the issue is not likely communication, instead it is probably a firewall blocking the scanning communication. Continue below:
    To turn on firewall protection:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security, and then click Firewall.
    2.

Open the Firewall pane of Security preferences

    3. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then type an administrator name and password.

    4. Click Start to turn on Firewall.
To allow only specified applications and services to connect:
    1. Click Advanced.

    2. Click the Add (+) button, and then select the application or service in the dialog that appears.
Are you able to complete the scan? Please let me know the results!
    Thanks again,

  • Either I can't find my printer control panel or it does not have the scan icon

I have an HP Deskjet 3055A J611 Series, which is running on Windows 7.
It is important that I scan several pages and place them all in one file.  I understand that this requires that I access the printer control panel.  I have accessed the printer through the icon "devices and printers",  and the panel that comes up have only the following 4 items:  am unable to scan from my printer control panel: HP Printer Assistant; See What's Printing; Set Preferences; Customize your Printer.  Perhaps this is not the control panel?  If not, then I do not know how to access the control panel.  On the other hand, if this is the control panel, then it does not have all of the icons and I do not know why.  Could you please help?  If I can't get this straightened out, I will need to find another printer that can easily scan documents with several pages onto one file.
    Thank you in advance,

Welcome to the forums @CLEANA , Maria
I understand you are not seeing the options within the Printer Assistant to change the scan options to allow you to save a multi-page scan as one file.
I would first suggest installing the Full Feature Driver to install the scanning options.
Click here to download: HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers
Afterwards, you should see the printer software on your Desktop, open it up, click on Scan a Document or Photo, select the "Advance" option and you should see this box to check mark to select:
    I hope that helps!

  • Scan function of HP3055 not supported in 10.6

Can someone help me in getting the scan function to work in HP 3055 laser print scan fax machine.  HP did not update their driver.   I hate HP and will never buy one of their machines again!  Having said that, my HP 3055 has always worked well and I don't want to spend the money buying a new machine ( and when I do, it will be a Brother).  Sometime in the past I updated from 10.5.8 to 10.6, found the scan function did not work , and then had to go back to 10.5.8 ( and that was a big pain in the neck, as I don't have time machine).  Can someone please get me working with the latest Mac operating system.  It is a real problem for me... I use Google Chrome and it does not support 10.5.8  Thank you in advance

Image Capture in its preferences has the ability to enable TWAIN which may help if the default scanning doesn't work for it.
If that doesn't work HP's 10.5 drivers are here.
If you do go back to 10.6, the drivers are here.
HP has drivers for 10.7, if you find you can survive without Rosetta, or use Snow Leopard Server in virtualization.
There are no drivers for 10.8 or 10.9 direct from HP or Apple for that printer.   However some open source driver solutions* may work.

  • PhotoSmart 7510 scan function doesn't work right after updating Maverick

It was an ordeal but hp support was finally able to get my MAC to recognize my PhotoSmart 7510 all-in-one after the operating system was updated to 10.9.5. But now I get the scan function but I have no options as to size, dpi or what type file I want to save the scan to. Also, the quality is TERRIBLE. Granted I'm trying to scan old photographs but I was able to do this with no problem before. Now the grayscale is off and light areas of the images don't scan at all.
I know that all the drivers are up-to-date but I don't know how to fix this problem.

    Hey @LK8888,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you want to be able to scan with good quality on your Mac OS X 10.9.5 Operating System from your HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you with resolving this issue. Now you did state that you had quite a time with HP Technical Support trying to get your Mac to recognize your Photosmart. I'm afraid that if your scanner isn't working properly we may have to undue some of the steps completed by Technical Support to resolve this issue once and for all for you. However, before I have you delete or remove any software and drivers from your computer, could I have you take a look at the following document to ensure that you're using the proper scan software:
Scan from OS X v10.9 Mavericks With the Full Feature HP Software for HP Multifunction Printers
If everything now works perfect, great! If not, than unfortunately I'm going to need you to run through the following steps.
Step 1: Uninstall your Printer Driver and Software:
    Uninstalling the Printer Software
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
HP Photosmart 7510 series C311 Full Feature Software and Drivers
Please click the link above to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.9.5 drivers for your product. Once the download is complete follow the step-by-step installation instructions to complete the install of your product.
Once install is complete, try to scan!
Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your scanning issue. Good luck!
