No Ibooks for Mac is bad news I am visually impaired I need this.

Will IOS simulator in Ibooks read Ibooks.
Apple has always made a big point about accomodating the handicapped.
Many early Mac adapters back to  the Plus are now experiencing vision problems. How about
making Ibooks available on Mac?
This is discrimination. Denying access is probably a violation of handicap laws.
Do I have to buy an Ipod and Apple TV just to read books on a Mac?
I am an avid reader Apple is losing sales on this.

No.
To read ebooks on a mac, you should get them someplace else like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks.  They all provided free ereader apps for OS X.
To ask Apple for new stuff, the best place to post is
http://www.apple.com/feedback
If the books you want do not have DRM (some publishers, like O'Reilly, don't use it), then you can read ibooks on your Mac with apps like Calibre or Adobe Digital Editions.

Well where is your library located now if not in the iTunes folder?  See the links below on what your iTunes folder should look like and put it back together:

  • How to get books onto iPad when iBooks for Mac refuses to sync.

I have around 300 books which were originally in the books section of iTunes. Since upgrading to Mavericks the new iBooks for Mac is moved them all over and I ma now unable to access most of them on my iPad despite making sure all settings are correct. None of the books I use for study created by iBooks Author will now transfer. The only ones that seem to are those recently purchased from iTunes. Anybody out there found a solution yet. Apparently Apple admit that only books purchased from iTunes will sync, but I need to be able to get them on my iPad. I don't care if they sync or not.

There are a few categorical places one must visit in order to synchronize iBooks for Mac with IOS iBooks. There is no need to remove the iBook for Mac application.
System Preferences > iCloud > Documents and Data is enabled
IOS Settings > iBooks > Sync Collections (enabled) and optionally Sync Bookmarks (enabled)Assumption that iCloud is enabled on the IOS device with documents and data enabled
iBook for Mac > Preferences > General: Sync: Sync bookmarks, highlights, and collections across devices
    iTunes
Pick your IOS Device under DEVICES in the left nav
Choose Books along the top toolbar
In the Books panel, choose one of the following
    Books and PDF Files
    Books only
    PDF only
    In the Sync Books panel
    All Books
Selected BooksClick the box next to the books you wish to Sync
    Select iTunes Sync
The books (and PDF) you selected above are now on your IOS device

  • Are you ever going to make iBooks for Mac OSX?

It seems crazy to me that Apple has not released iBooks for the Mac!! Why would you hold out on such an essential tool for students or anyone wanting to use their computers and iOS devices for reading??
Has there been any new for a forthcoming iBooks for Mac?

No, and I doubt there will ever be. iBooks is only for iOS.

  • Q: If you never initiate iBooks for Mac conversion...

can you keep using (latest) iTunes under Mavericks to manage your ebook/pdf collections?
Reason I am asking is that I have also experienced the problems with new, standalone iBooks described here and elesewhere. I have since reverted back to Mountain Lion, but eventually I would like to use Mavericks until Apple fixes the iBooks for Mac. Never initiating iBooks conversion seems like the cleanest solution (if it works).
    Thanks!

Like you, I reverted back to Mountain Lion until a workaround was found.  It sounds like someone has done it now:
Re: Not impressed! No edit info, no library management!
I think this might work, but I'd be interested in hearing whether the simple step of stopping and deleting the bookstoreagent will work as a preventative measure.
Anyone willing to give it a try and share their experiences here?

Sorry, yes this is Microsoft Excel.  The Microsoft XP has Excel files denoted as xl, the later versions of Microsoft Excel are denoted as xls files.  The later verions of Microsoft Excel open the xl files OK, does Excel for Mac not able to do this?

  • IBooks for Mac - purchase books as gifts

I know in the past it was not possible to purchase books as gifts. I've seen in iBooks for iOS it is now possible to send a book as a gift; it is shown as an option at the bottom of the Featured screen.
With iBooks for Macs running Mavericks, can you gift a book? Or, if you want to send a book as a gift, do you need to do so using iBooks for iOS?
    Thanks.

I’m seeing the same thing on my MacBook Pro. My Mac mini, running the same OS X version 10.9.3 doesn’t have this issue. The issue exists across user accounts on the MBP.

  • IBooks for Mac Doesn't Reopen Books

iBooks isn't reopening windows after I close it. Here's what I do in sequence:
    1. Open iBooks.
    2. Double-click a book.
    3. Click the fullscreen button in the upper-right corner.
    4. Quit iBooks with CMD + Q.
    5. Open iBooks.
No windows pop up, not even my Library. I have to quit and open it again to get the Library back.
Also, it doesn't sync my progress in books between iBooks for Mac and iBooks for iPad correctly. It usually puts me a chapter or two behind where I am.
When Apple released the update, I hoped it would fix it, but nobody else seems to have this problem.

  • Video controls in iBooks for Mac

I'm producing a Fixed Layout ePub, with video and animation.
Some videos fit the width of the page, nothing to report on iPad reading, but on iBooks for Mac I can't play the video because "play" button is "under" the iBooks "turn page" button!
I see video controls "iPad-like" on Mac, in books like "Yellow Submarine": I've tried to see the code but these books are encrypted.. any help?

yea , after reading lots of discussions about this issue , it looks like its happening with lots of people. they try to read books on their macbook pro and they cant. it looks Apple wants u to buy other devices like ipad in order to be able to read books. and they do that in purpose.  cuz mainly they make money from selling hardware not from selling other products through their website.
cuz it doesnt make any sence to me that u can read books on your iphone and u cannot on your macbook pro!!! this is rediculous!
however, Im buying an Ipad anyway for my daughter and im wondering how i can download and read the book i already purchased  throu my macbook, im i still able to use the same Apple account and download whatever i purchased on other devices?
Actually, Apple makes a nice profit from  songs, video, book, and apps. They also have apps in the AppStore for all of their major competitors in the eBook market some of which do have apps for reading on Mac OSX machines. So, no, it's not about trying to con you into buying hardware.
Yes, if you and your daughter are using the same AppleID, you can share the iBooks on different devices.

Do you have a backup. If so you should be able to restore it from that. Otherwise you can reinstall OS X. See Carolyn's post in I accidentally deleted iBooks on my Macbook Pro (late 2011) running on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite. Will iBooks be reinstalled if I install the next OS X major update once it is out?

I am talking about the icon on the docking row, that's the guy with the smily face. When you click on him it brings up a bunch of files of what I seem to have store/created on my Imac. There are hundreds of emails and some other documents. I tried to delete a few of them when I first got the MS office but it did not like that, it said it have to rebuild oulook. Why cant i delete these files? is this Apple version of Window outlook PST files?
These file extenssions are listed as
olk14_message or even or ccontact. I wish I could send a screen print but I dont see that on the key board. Maybe I should have stuck with windows..
Oh the ...olk14_message's.  Do not delete them behind Outlooks back, i.e., from the finder.  Those are the various messages that you sent, received, or deleted in Outlook.  They are indexed by Outlook so if you delete behind Outlook's back Outlook will get confused trying to access those messages.
You can delete them however using Outlook itself.  In outlook select a mailbox (Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc.) by clicking on the mailbox on the left.  It will show you the messages in that mailbox.  You can now select all or selected items in that mailbox.  The click the Edit menu and select Delete.  You will get a dialog asking if you really want to delete the selections.  Answer "Delete" and the messages will get deleted.
The olk14_message's you are seeing are the actual messages shown the Outlook mail boxes.  When you actually delete them the way I just described the corresponding olk14_message files will also be deleted.
Note Outlook's Deleted Items mailbox is where all deleted messages go when you click the Delete tool in the Outlook toolbar.   Thus using the Delete tool from the toolbar does not permanently delete the messages.  So if you been using that for months or years you are going to have a very large Deleted Items mailbox.  And every one of those items in there is going to have a corresponding olk14_message file for that message.
So if those olk14_message files you are seeing are from the Deleted Items mailbox you can get rid of all those corresponding olk14_message files by selecting all the messages in Deleted Items and using the Edit menu's Delete.
Alternative ways to the Edit/Delete to do the permanent delete is select (all) the messages to delete and control (right) click to bring up the Outlook contextual menu and select Delete from it.
Finally if you use the Delete tool in the toolbar for messages selected in the Deleted Items mailbox you will be able to permanently delete those too.  It's an exception since using the tool on the Deleted Items means there's no place to put those messages except to "oblivion".
So, in summary, using the Delete tool in the toolbar on messages in every mailbox except the Deleted Items mailbox just moves messages to the Deleted Items mailbox.  But using the Delete tool on items in them Deleted Items mailbox permanently deletes the selected items in there.  And only permanently deleting items removes the corresponding actual ...olk14_message files.
