No icon for security setup

I have a new Linksys wireless router that I successfully installed yesterday.  It seems to work fine.  But I cannot setup the security because there is no icon in my system tray in the lower right corner of my screen.  There are lots of icons there but no Linksys icons.  I reinstalled the router but still no icon.  I have looked at the entire tray, not just the most used icons.
Any suggestions?
Amy

Amy are you talking about wireless security?
Try to go to http://www.linksys.com/kb.
look for answer id 949
it has explicit intsructions on how to setup wireless security.
I read this website alot and it teaches you alot of things,

Is it layer 2 or layer 3 security ? and can I run VPN for the internet surf ? Please kindly advise.

  • I installed the new Firefox. Where is the yellow padlock icon for secure sites?

with previous versions of Firefox , there was a yellow lock icon on the bottom-right of the screen , an indication of a secure site. Now with Firefox 4 I don't see the padlock. Where is it ? thanks

The padlock has been replaced by the site identity button, for details on using it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Site+Identity+Button

  • I want to set up two apple id's (w/facetime)  one for personal use, and one for professional use.   I get the validation email, click the link -and it says it won't work for security/timeout reasons.   failure prevents setup of second account.

I can set up my personal account just fine.  personal apple id is my [email protected]  - I can setup the ipad and face time no problem.
But I don't want to be facetime tutoring with my personal account.  I want students to find me by my .edu address
I cannot complete the second apple Id setup, as the confirmation email always fails.  Even if I disable all firewall/blocking in outlook and windows.
I get an error every time.
    Your request couldn't be completed.
This may have occurred for security reasons or because your session timed out.
So much for Apple being the "simpler" PC for users.
I've been a Windows user/technician for many years.   I've never seen anything this aggravating.
    Anyone run into this before?

Saw this in another forum. You could try it.
Under the FaceTime Account you can only have 1 email set up, but below that you can set up multiple email accounts as phone numbers, I do it all the time.
FaceTime is set up with my account, but since the iPad is more of a family device (its mine, but everyone is allowed to use it), my sister programed her email so that her friends can call her on the iPad and so did my Mom and brother. Their friends dial their numbers (email addresses) and the iPad still rings even though the main number is mine account.

  • Safari 8 not displaying lock icon for https secured websites

It seems that Safari 8 (installed with Yosemite) is not showing the lock icon for HTTPS websites.
I can't find a way to see the security certificates for secure websites.
I switched the “Show full website address” setting in Safari's Preferences, but nothing happened.
It's essential having this icon, or any way to tell if the site is secure or not.
I don't see any other option in the menus or anywhere else in Safari to see a sites certificates.

I'm not sure if Safari was updated since your question, but today the lock icon is in the address bar right next to the address

  • Setups for Security

Three questions here. My iMac sits at home. No one else has access to it. And I am retired. Please tell me about these options in the Security Preferences screen.
Firewall. Does the average person need this activated?
Firevault. Is this necessary for all?
I don't have the Missing Manual for Mavericks yet. So I often look up topics in the MM for Lion. He mentions something on page 510 about "closing the backdoor" so hackers can't 'Ping" an idle or sleeping computer. The Security Preferences in Mavericks don't seem to address this. Has the new OS got built-in security for this.
Wiping an HD clean, installing fresh OS and then restoring preferences from a TImeMachine backup.
I was getting some odd behavior on my HD that DiskWarrior detected. From the error messages, the Alsoft (DW company) support people suggested I erase the HD and install a new system. And to be sure, wipe the HD clean first. I posted about this before, and the kind people on this forum agreed. I wonder, though, would it be save to Restore my old Network and Kechains and System Preferences from my TM backup?

    I'll weigh in on this:
    1. You don't need a firewall if you use a hardware router with its own built-in firewall.
    2. You have no real need for FileVault unless you require military level security.
    3. Do have a strong log-in password for your Admin account. Be sure to write it down somewhere safe.
    4. Be sure you use strong passwords for any sites you use that require logins; especially ones where you purchase things.
    5. Don't do your banking online or pay bills online. These places have security systems too easily cracked.
    6. Use a credit card as infrequently as possible. Your financial information is not available on cash.
    7. If you are behind a good router you should not have problems with hackers. If you use wireless, then be sure to activate security in the router to prevent others from accessing your network.
    8. Pinging your backdoor can be blocked by using the firewall, but I don't think you have much to fear here. Only experienced hackers even know what that is. And, who wants your information? Unless you have millions in cash available, hackers aren't interested in you or your bank accounts. I haven't used any of these advanced security setups in 30 plus years of computing - I'm 72 and retired. I don't even both with anti-malware software
    9. It's safe to restore your old keychain as long as you know you haven't permitted anything you'd be worried about. Network and system preferences should be no problem.

  • My browser dowloads everything automatically in MyDocuments. But, for security reasons, I need to setup a different download path, to a different location, where I keep my personal files. How do I change the download path? Thanks, Dan.

My Firefox 3.6 is setup to download anything automatically in MyDocuments (which I never use).
For security reasons, I designated a different location on my hard drive, where I keep my confidential files.
How do I change this downloading path? I tried to change it by going to "Tools-Options-Save Files To", but it does not work.
    Thanks,

  • Wireless Router Security Setup

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question but I am fairly new to my mac. (love it by the way)
We have DSL at home and recently bought a Belkin Wireless G router. I put in the cd that came with it and selected the Mac option for install. Now, after this it took only a few seconds and was done. All connected and up and running in nothing flat. My wife was able to connect via her PC laptop no problem.
I want to secure this wireless connection and I can't quite figure out how. Oddly enough there is no Belkin icon for me to click on to get into any properties. When I type belkin into my spotlight search nothing comes up. I assume I should be setting up the security directly on my mac somehow but just not sure how.???
Have tried reading and searching but still can't find anything. Right now I am assuming my question is just too simple so no one else has this problem but I just can't get my pea sized intellect to figure it out.
    Thanks All!

Well, you do have Security on your Mac, but what you want is to address the router's Setup page
Run Safari and type this into the url bar...
    http://192.168.2.1
You should see a Menu there.
Come to think of it, this is probably the best source on how to...

I think this might be your Router.

    I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago.  I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all.  I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist.  Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff).  Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for.  It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do.

  • The icon for Norton Identity Safe has disappeared and I can't figure out how to get it back on my toolbar.

I use Norton which has a feature called "Identity Safe." In the old version of Mozilla, the icon for this feature was available on my toolbar. Now that I have converted to the latest version of Firefox, the icon has disappeared and I cannot figure out to get it back. I can still activate the Identity Safe by opening Norton, but I want to restore the shortcut.

Symantec have made an update for their add-ons to work in Firefox 4, but they only listed them as compatible with Firefox 4.0, they need to update them to let them work in Firefox 4.0.1, they have indicated this will be happening soon. • 2 questions--I've tried the cookies/cache thing but when I try to register a site, it still says I have a problem with my cache and cookies setting, and my icons for tools, etc has disappeared from my tool bar, how do I get them back?

I did the self help to set private settings, delete cookies and no tracking of my visited website, and delete history...but when I try to register on a site to send them emails (comments) i keep getting sent back to an error page that my cache/cookie settings are not right!!! and then the icons for my "tools", etc that were on the upper right of my toolbar have disappeared and I want them back...where did they go and I can't find any help on the help menus to solve any of these issues..it's aggravating.

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Zoom -> click "Reset" -> Page Style -> select "Basic Page Style"
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> select '''Menu Bar''' and '''Navigation Toolbar''' -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select EVERYTHING''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies, Cache''' -> click '''Clear Now'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> '''Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History"''' -> REMOVE Checkmark from '''"Permanent Private Browsing mode"''' -> place CHECKMARKS on:
    1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES
-> When using the Location Bar, suggest: select "History and Bookmarks"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Offline Storage (Cache): click '''Clear Now''' button
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon on SearchBar -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click '''Remove''' button -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Security Setup not working

    Hi,
As a part of security setup we have done the following things:
    - Users created and assigned as members of groups. One group is created per entity.
    - Groups have been provisioned for the application and given security class access
    - Security classes have been created and attached to metadata. for e.g, all entities have been attached a Sec class in properties.
    - In application settings, Node Security = Entity, Security for Entities is Checked, Enable Metadata Sec Filtering is also checked.
Even after this, the security setup doesnt seem to be working. A user with minimal provision (only Data Form Writeback from Excel) and no security class access is also able to see all the entities, also other forms, grids, etc which have been attached diff security classes. He is able to edit the forms and grids.
Can anyone help out as to what is it that we are missing?

What role(s) do the users have? Any user with the Administrator role bypasses class access checking and is assumed to have full access to everything. No other role provides this bypass.
Editing forms and grids has nothing to do with Entity security. If the forms and grids have no class assigned to them, they use the [Default] class which I suggest all users have All rights to anyway. If there are grids/forms you do not want users to change, you should assign a specific class to them, other than [Default].
Enable Metadata security filtering should restrict users from seeing the members for which they have None access to, but as long as they have Read or All access, they will see the members in a pick list.
