No icons in NetworK Connections

I have a very old Satellite Pro due to unforeseen circumstances I have had to reinstall WIndows XP - however since doing this I cannot connect to the internet I believe it to be a problem with the drivers which so far I have not managed to solve - I was hoping I might be able to find something on this website (tried Intel but without success) However being an older IT person I can't remember what model my satellite pro is. Is there a way of identifying this if you know the model number on the bottom
Any help would be much appreciated

Judy, you should be able to ascertain the part number using either of these free utilities.

Hi,
So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.

I would try another restore of the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. Maybe something went wrong in the process. Make sure everything works before applying any updates and adding any hardware or software.
Then add things carefully, rebooting Windows and testing the USB and audio at each step.
Please note this.
The only info windows gives me for the sound card is that it from Microsoft... with a driver version of 6.1.7601.17514....which naturally doesn't really help me since I have no idea what card or mobo I have . Is there any way for me to find out what I need other than opening up my laptop?
Every one of them lists my mobo simply as a Toshiba motherboard, with no audio card information. Which I'm assuming that is because it has an internal sound processor. My problem is that none of the properties, or ANYTHING I try, will give me information on what I need to fix this...
All of the latest drivers for your model are easily found here. This one is for the sound.

How do I allow Skype to get past network?

You make no mention of which OS you are using. The following are Yosemite instructions:
System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall>Unlock the padlock.
Click on the Firewall Options button.
Click the + (plus) button & do the necessary to add Skyp & to allow incoming connections. When done, click the OK button & lock the padlock.
Restart your computer. Report back the results.

It's not necessary, but is a good troubleshooting step. How to do so varies from brand to brand. Look at the manufacturers website, they should have a manual available that explains how to access the settings and change it.

In that case, I would strongly encourage you to connect them via a short Ethernet cable. The proximity of the two devices could be the culprit in the video quality issues.

• Wifi icon and network and sharing center show no connection but I have full access

The wifi icon has an orange "ball" on it. Left click and it shows I am connected to my wifi. But at the top of the window is says "not connected." Go to Network and sharing center and it shows a red x going to the router.
All this and I have full access to the internet. What is going on? How to fix?

Hi,
For this issue, first I suggest you keep the latest driver for the network adapter, and disable other network adapters except the one you're using now, check if this issue persists.
or you can delete this wifi profile in manage wireless networks, then manually reconnect to this wifi, check if it make any difference.

• Equium A60-181 Win XP: incorrect network connection - Taskbar icon notification

Hi everyone,
Ive had my Equium A60-181 for quite a while now and its been quite reliable, its always connected via WiFi to my home network.
Very recently though, the icon in the system tray for network connectivity has been incorrect. It always says I am not connected to the network... but I am, because the internet works and I can still access the network drive which is on another computer on the network, and the network printers.
Why does the system tray tell me that i am not connected to the network when I am?
All help will be greatly appreciated.
And Happy New Year.
Rhys James

Hi
I presume you have assigned the LAN TCP/IP address and the gateway settings manually and these settings are not set to automatic. Am I right?
The same message appeared to me. I have connected my notebook to the other PC and changed the TCP/IP address settings.
This was the reason for this message in the taskbar.
Just simply set it to automatic again and you will get rid of this annoying message.

• Win7 Home Premium - systray Wireless network connection icon?

Hi,
My home wireless connection is running fine and I do not have my Ethernet cable plugged in.
In the systray part of the taskbar, there used to show a Wireless network connection icon - a little graphic icon that looked like 5 vertical bars side-by-side, with bars increasing in height, left to right. That icon is no longer in the systray and
it appears to have been replaced by the "wired" icon - a little square with a tiny picture of a plugger on its left side. And since I don't have my Ethernet cable plugged in, there's a little red "x" on the wired icon. I don't
know what I did to cause the wired icon to replace the Wireless network connection icon in the systray. Any idea how I screwed this up and how to put things back again?

Hi cwr64,
It might be caused by netsh command using. Please try following methods
Method1: Uninstall all “6to4 Afapter” and “isatap” device in device manager.
Right click this computer->Properties->Device manager->View->show hidden devices
Right click and uninstall all “6TO4 Adapter” and “isatap” devices in
Network adapters.
Method 2
Please try to uninstall all your network adapter driver and reinstall them again. Then restart your computer check if the icon comes back. It might be caused by netsh command using.
Note: backup or download your adapter driver before removing the drivers from device manager.

• Facetime is not working. it says network connection is not on. but i see the icon for wifi

Facetime is not working. . The comment box says to check the network connection. But my wifi is on. So don't understand why facetime is not working

If it says CHECK NETWORK CONNECTION, it means you are not connected to wifi or NO SIGNAL IS BEING PICK UP BY YOU IPHONE 4S. Another possible solution is re-set your wifi router by pulling out the power cord from wifi router for about 20 seconds and put it back on wait for about 1-2 minutes cuz some wifi router takes time to re-set.

• When I try to use FaceTime on my Macbook Air, I try to verify the email I want people to call me with, and it says verified, but soon an message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."

So our school lets us use Macbook Airs for the school year, and it has facetime on it. I know facetime isn't blocked because like everyone else is using it. So I decide to give it a try. I click the icon, it says enter your apple ID. I dont have one, so I click to make one, and do so. I then enter my apple ID and click next. The screen reads "People will call you using your email address. What email address would you like to use?" I enter my email address in the box below the message, and then go to my email and click the link, and sign in, thus verifying the email. I go back to the facetime window, and click next. At the top it says Verified, but when I click next it doesn't go on to the next step, it simply blacks out the next button so that I can not click it, and after a few minutes a message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."
So that is the issue, please help!!!!!
*Note-I repeat that I know it is not blocked by the school because everyone else uses it just fine.*

Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

• My mid 2010 MacBook Pro loses network connectivity

I have four mac computers running on our home network. My mid 2010 MacBook Pro has become notorious for losing network connectivity with the other computers. It maintains it's internet connectivity consistently, but it's ability to see and connect with the other computers on the local network is finicky at best. The other three computers (2008 iMac, 2012 iMac, 2012 MacBook Pro) all connect to our Actiontec MI424WR Fios router via ethernet, whereas the mid 2010 MacBook Pro connects via WiFi.
If anyone could please help me troubleshoot the issue, that'd be much appreciated.
Sincerely.

Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

• When I open Firefox, it is not automatically opening a network connection. I have to manually open the network connection before browsing. How do I get Firefox to automatically open the connection?

I have to click on the network connections icon and ask it to refresh before Firefox makes the connection. This never happened with Explorer and I don't remember it happening the first few months with Firefox. Did I foul up my settings somehow? Or add plug-in or extension that is causing this?

Every now and then, you should run these programs

• Losing network connection and NIC acts weird from warm/hot weather/temperatures?

Hello.
Is there a known issue on MSI P43 NEO3-F (MSI-7514) motherboards' onboard RealTek RTL8168C (P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC network disconnecting and acting weird during warm/hot weather?
I noticed lately and back on 1/11/2009 night when weather got warm/hot (e.g., my room can get over 85F degrees, but lately it has been 80F degrees), my network would lose its connection. See http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5580/screenshots.gif for a few SpeedFan's sensor readings when the incidents occurred. I have never seen this happen when the weather is cooler (60-70F degrees in my room).
I also think this only happens if I am using the PC lightly (nothing intensive) like watching fullscreen videos (video overlay), surfing the Web, etc. I don't see any errors or evidences that it happens when idled (e.g., asleep or out). Uptime doesn't seem to matter since I have seen days to 3.5 hours.
I tried upgrading network driver twice (e.g., Realtek_XP_5714_0219 from
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...), disabling Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (XP's disabled already), releasing and renewing IP address (works, but still no network -- can't even ping my router!), unplugging and replugging the cat5 cable (do see the network port lights on), touching the network jack and hardware inside and outside of the case (not hot), trying another cat5 cable and a network port on a switch instead router's), changing from "Minimal Power Management" to full power (no underclocking/slowing down when idled), etc.
During the disconnections, I tried:
C:\>tracert 192.168.0.1
Tracing route to 192.168.0.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

I also noticed the disconnections usually start with red X icon in my taskbar with its bubble and then later the long disconnection even though no red X (1 GB and connected). If I were to disconnect the cat5 cable from NIC, then it wouldn't even detect it is missing the cable!
The only way to fix this was to reboot (best way and last longer) OR disable network connection and re-enable it (Windows XP's Network Connections) or the NIC itself (Device Manager), but that doesn't always last long (maybe a minute). Example of my pings right after disabling and re-enabling NIC:
C:\>ping 192.168.0.1 -t
Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Force your NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex and see how it goes.
Check your router / switch ports as well as cables.
I will try 100 Mbps if it happens again. So far, it hasn't occurred after installing the driver supplied by MSI's Web site and not RealTek's Web site. The room temperatures even got warmer like 83F degrees.
As for router and switch, what am I checking for? Other computers didn't have any problems. As for cat5 cables, I already tried another one like I said in my original post.

• Network Connection could not be made

Help! I have been subscribing to a spanish lesson podcast for a long time, slowly working through the older lessons. I accidentally hit "Get All" in my iTunes and then made the mistake of trying to stop it. I clicked cancel on each on to stop the onslaught.
Now, I can't download any of them! The exclamation point icon appears on the left and when I click on it, it states "There was a problem in downloading... The Network Connection could not be made."
All othere podcasts work just fine.
I unsubscribed, resubscribed. Shutdown, reboot. I just won't let me download any more! Me puede ayudar? Can you help me?
Scott

well, it turned out that by waiting a few days, it worked itself out. Suddenly, the download worked. I don't know what fixed it... but it is no longer a problem.

• FF not connecting to web- This "Network Connections" message pops up: Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. Any ideas?

About a month ago I could no longer connect to the internet on our PC. Every time I clicked on the Firefox icon the Netscape sign-on window would pop up. I would try to close it but it would pop up over and over again. If I tried to close it a dozen or so times eventually Firefox would open up but it would never connect. Just today I moved my Netscape file to the recycle bin. No longer does the Netscape sign-on window pop up but following Network Connection error message pops up: "Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection".. This error window behaves the same way the Netscape sign-on window used to behave. Every time I click to close it it pops open again. After numerous clicks Firefox opens up but it never connects.

Do you have this error message on a Mac computer or on a Windows computer?
I've only seen this error mentioned on a Windows computer.
