No icons on my desktop or the taskbar after 5 different delete/downloads

after loading firefox onto my new dell 17r i noticed there were no icons either on my desktop or my start menue. i deleted it and tried again. 5 times. to no avail. what gives? ive never had this problem before?

Third party fonts, non Apple font manager, duplicate fonts, can all cause the problems you describe.

You can try to clear the Windows icon cache.
#Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC)
#In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.

#Type or Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local in the File name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
#Select the file IconCache.db and use Delete in the right-click context menu to delete the file.
#After the IconCache.db has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.
It is possible that the file IconCache.db is a hidden file.

Open the General tab of the Finder's preferences and set it not to be displayed on the desktop. Alternatively, if it's a disk image or external disk, just drag it to the Trash.

OK. Double-click on the file which will open it in place if it is a .ZIP file or it will mount on your Desktop if it is a .DMG file. In the case of the former you want to select the unarchived application and drag it to your Applications folder. Double-click on the application to open it. In the case of the latter double-click on the Desktop icon for the mounted image, select the application in the window and drag it to your Applications folder. Then double-click on the application to open it.

If I am using a website which opens a pop up window or am downloading a file and the popup downloads window appears, it will minimize itself to the taskbar after a few seconds or if I move the mouse pointer out of the pop up window.

Occurs every time I use the squeezenetwork.com website to control my squeezebox boom internet radio player. (logitech) Also occurs every time I download a file and the downloads window pops up. The pop up window minimizes to the taskbar, or the browser window is on top of the pop up window.

I created a virtual desktop collection with a name format like this , prefix = VDI-, suffix= 1 .
so when I created the first VMs , I had VDI-1 and VDI-2 , later after recreating the VMs, adding new ones and deleting others, the suffix numbers are no longer in sequence , like I started having VDI-1,VDI-2,VDI-8,VDI-9.
I realized I had one problem that probably caused this, because when I delete a VM , I get a warning message:
"RD connection broker could not delete the computer account object from active directory."
so I searched about that error and I added the needed permissions and now deleting seems to work without any warning.
now I have two VMs, when I go through the wizard , the first page it shows I have 2 VMs but in the second page it shows I have 11 ! is there a way to reset the count ? if I delete the entire collection and create it again , will I have any problem with the
roaming users profiles ?

Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can specify the count for RDVH as how many desktop wants for particular host. You can do this “Specify Virtual Desktop allocation” while creating virtual desktop collection. Other than that you can also use PowerShell command to achieve your task.

I am unable to move app icons from one screen to the next, after 2.1

Can any one verify this?
I have restarted the phone, just in case and the behavior continues.
While on the subject, it would be nice if Apple could supply a MAC interface for rearranging the iPhone screens as it is not much fun on the phone itself.

Figured it out last night. it does work but you now have to kind of over along the boder before it jusmps over. I am pretty sure that before it sufficed to push the icon to the border in order to move it over.
I guess this new way is better as you really need to want to move it in order to switch screens.

I have installed Version 7.0.1. on my Laptop and Desktop, but the home pages are different

I was invited to update my laptop version of Firefox to version 7.0.1. I did this and was quite impressed by the new home page format with a single button to address the Menu Bar, Bookmark etc. I decided to update my Desktop Computer to the same version by downloading the latest update, but when it was installed, the Home page format was not change to the new format. I decided to use the same installation file I had used on the Laptop, but the format was not changed. So I am puzzled as to why there are two different format results using the same installation file. Does anybody know of a way of ensuring the new format can be invoked on my desktop?

On my Laptop, to access the Menu bar, there is a Red button in the top left hand corner of the Home page and clicking this button revels all the Menu Bar functions, On the Desktop machine, installed with the same installation file, the Red button is not available but the old Menu bar is. I would prefer the button and less cluttered home page, which the Laptop What's New page proclaims is the new format. How do I make the new proclaimed Format the default on my desktop and why the difference from the same installation file. I have attempted to use your upload images facility, but I have received an error message each time I try to upload an rtf file which includes an image of each each of the Home pages!

The Airplay Icon is not showing up on My Taskbar After Upgrading to Mountain Lion

Please help. I have 2nd generation Apple TV and a 2011 Imac but the Airplay Icon will not show up on Taskbar after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Finally after trying to uninstall/reinstall (no luck!)
I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. iTunes 10.7 And I have a solution:
If found a thread about IPv6.
I followed the same directions on Windows 7 64 bit and it worked.
Disable IPv6 on _all_ of your IP ethernet adapters.
That includes Virtual Machines (VMWare... yes those too), including IPv6 for wireless.
Close iTunes. Start iTunes. Works. Airplay Icon is back.
It looks like All of the AirPlay devices may have to be re-setup. At the very least rebooted.
I found that I had to clompletely erase my DHCP addresses from my (non Apple) router.. and that fixed it. Finally.

I just installed the Java 2 v1.4.2 for my Mozilla browser, and, by mistake, I selected the "don't show icon in the taskbar" option.
How can I get the Icon to appear again in the taskbar?.
With that Icon I can change some options like if I want or not my browsers to use that Java, and more.

If you're using windows you should be able to go to the control panel... and there should be an icon for the Java vm... I'd imagen that in there there will be an option for what you're looking for... and if you're not using windows then whatever is equivilent to the control panel

Skype icon stuck on desktop

I have tried all the tricks I know, but the alias seems only to work when the skype icon is on my desktop. If I eject it, then the alias (in my Apps folder) cannot find the app. and I have to d/l it again.
I am sure there is a trick... but I am at a loss.
Any suggestions out there?

Had this trouble with firefox as well, but got that one to work after a couple tries.
I have repaired my disk permissions.
Still, the Skype icon (not the dmg) does not seem to want to go into my applications folder. When I put it in the app folder, it just makes another alias nd remains on the desktop.
If I 'eject' the icon from my desktop, then the alias says it can no longer find the application.
Again, I am sure (I hope) there is an easy fix here...

I'm developing a AIR Application Online game where i have 1 Game Lobby AIR App (Flex-Based AIR) and games AIR App (Flash CS4 Built Swf, Create AIR file using Flex to load the Swf file).
The game have only 1 Lobby(air file) and Numbers of games (air files).
Purpose to having multiple AIR file to make use of AIR auto updates features for the lobby and all games.
I want to remove/unchecked "Add shortcut icon to my desktop" from the Installation Preferences of AIR Application Install dialogue.

Try This.
Right click on the desktop >> create a new shortcut
Type: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" "skype:"
Click Next
Type: ModernSkype in Type a Name for this shortcut field.
Then Click Finish.
You now have a desktop shortcut to Skype app.
You can create an icon for this shortcut.
Log on to ICO converter
Cick Choose File and search for .png in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.SkypeApp_1.6.0.114_x86__kzf8qxf38zg5c\images\skypeSmall.targetsize-32.png
Then Click Convert. New icon will be downloaded.
Now Right click on ModernSkype desktop shortcut and click Propeties then Click Change Icon and locate the downloaded icon file, Click OK.

Safari icon disappears from desktop/menu bar

my son clicked on safari to open it on our new imac. he said the icon disappeared. he was right. i had to go to spotlight and open it from there. i tried to drag the icon from the applications after spotlight found it, but it wouldn't stay on my desktop at the bottom menu bar.
how do i get it on my menu bar again.

i was finally able to drag it to the menu applications bar at the bottom, to the left of the double white line, but i had to first drag it onto my desktop, and then into the menu bar on the bottom.
however, it stayed in both places. on my desktop and down in my menu bar. i would like it only in my menu bar, but i'm afraid if i drag the icon from my desktop to the trash, it will delete both, or all safari applications, and i wouldn't want that to happen.
how do i remove it from my desktop, yet keep it in the menu bar at the bottom? it used to always be in the menu bar on the bottom, and never on the desktop screen itself.
am i making any sense?
