No Icons under Apple Menu

When I click my Apple Menu 10.9.4 there are no icons, nothing is listed. This is after a total system restore from Time Machine. Everything else is working. I deleted the finder prefs with no success.
Any suggestions are welcomed

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Under APPLE MENU system preferences only opens sporadically, mostly not

Under APPLE MENU system preferences only opens sporadically, mostly not. I booted up with installation disk and ran a check but everything was alright. However, when I tried to click on items using the disk as a startup disk it frequently wouldn't function.

    George,
    Thanks for asking that question.
I offered this solution based upon similar successful advice which was given to another poster who solved this problem:Long story short I ended up reinstalling Mac OS X using Archive and Install. When I first used the computer following reinstalling Mac OS X, I was able to access the System Preferences by selecting them under the Apple in the menu bar. However, I have now updated my software using Software Update, and now I can't access System Preferences when I click on them under the Apple in the menu. The computer just acts like I never selected System Preferences.
Where have System Preferences gone??? provides another example of Previous Systems folder interfering with System Preferences.
Applications don't work after reinstalling Mac OS X explains a different problem with a Previous Systems folder: Example 1: You downgrade by performing an Archive and Install installation, but do not update to a later version of Mac OS X. The Previous Systems folder contains later versions of applications that may contribute to this issue. If you have proper backups, I recommend trashing the Previous Systems folder as soon as you can determine that the new system is functioning properly. The Previous Systems folders will either take up too much space or contribute to unexplained system problems.

  • Why no "Locations" setting under Apple menu in 10.9?

Why does the Apple menu on my new Apple 10.9.2 laptop no longer have a "Locations" option as prior OS versions had?

As Linc is implying, you get an Apple menu icon -> Location menu entry if you go to System Preferences -> Network -> Location -> Edit Locations... and either [+] a new location, or (Gear) duplicate an existing location.
If you have "Just" 1 location (Automatic) Mac OS X will not not display Location under the Apple menu icon.  This has been true since before Mac OS X Leopard, which is as far back as I can remember.

  • Wrong Language under Apple Menu

After a crash, the system came up in a very odd state. All entries under the "Apple" menu are in a non-English language. I went over the preferences->international and unchecked everything but English, no dice. If something other than English is checked, it shows up under the Apple menu. If only English is checked the Apple menu is in a language I don't recognize (probably Norwegian or Danish, from the letters). In the Finder the "Window" menu is likewise remapped to another language, along with the Apple menu, but none of the other menus.
To be crystal clear, I've already gone to the international preferences and selected "English" and unchecked everything except English, and logged in and out, and I'm still getting something that isn't English under the Apple menu, and the "Window" menu when in Finder.
The "Om denne Mac" menu item under Apple brings up the usual About this Mac window, in English.
Any thoughts on what to look for or fix?

    Hi
If you are familiar with the interface and as long as its not a language that uses Kanji characters, you should be able to create another Admin Account. Log out and log in with that. Does the problem go away? If it does follow this procedure:
Log back in to the primary account and navigate to Users/Home/Library. Move the Preferences folder (not copy) to the Desktop. Restart your mac and hold down the shift key. This will take some time so be patient. Eventually you should see the log in Window with 'Safe Boot' or 'Safe Mode' listed in Red. Log in. Empty the Trash. Select the Utilities folder from the Go Menu. Launch Disk Utility and repair privileges and permissions as well as verifying the disk. If it all checks out OK restart the Mac. On successful log in navigate to the removed Preferences folder on your desktop. Find the com.apple.dock.plist file. Select it and copy it using Command+C. Now navigate to /Users/Home/Library. In there you should see the newly created Preferences folder, open it and paste using Command+V. You'll be prompted to overwrite an newer existing com.apple.dock.plist. Say yes to this. Restart the mac. On successful login you should see the dock return to its previous state. If you use Apple Mail, again open the moved Preferences folder on your Desktop. Find the com.apple.mail.plist. Select it and copy it using Command+V. Navigate to the newly created Preferences folder in /Users/Home/Libary. Open the folder, paste using Command+V. Now when you launch Apple Mail all your accounts settings will be re-instated. You may be prompted for the mail account password. Have that handy just in case.
If none of this alleviates the problem for for an archive and install and preserve Network Users and Settings. You will have to use the installer disk to do this.

  • Disable Sleep option under Apple Menu

    Hi,
Some users sometimes put my server to sleep by hitting the sleep button under the Apple menu. How can I disable this button?

The server in most installations is a very important resource. It just strikes me as a bad idea to allow anyone to use the server as a workstation, and risk taking down your whole cluster if it freezes up (or they press sleep, or do a restart).
If resources are scarce, it seems smarter to turn your server computer into a workstation, and run the Server software on an old junker. Most file server work is not compute-intensive, and does not require top-of-the-line compute power.
You can run Mac OS Server on computers as old as the beige G3 (with XpostFacto), or the Blue & White G3 directly. A used beige G3 can be had for less than US$100, if you do not already have one lying around.

  • HT202213 Have newest version of ITunes and a new AppleTV. ITunes File Home Sharing only shows option to turn off home sharing.  No home sharing icon and Apple TV claims home sharing is not turned on.  Where is this advanced menu?

Cannot get home sharing to work with my new apple TV.  Have the latest version of ITunes and the apple TV is connected to my wi-fi network.  The instruction page says to go to the Advanced menu option of ITunes and choose Home Sharing.  This option does not exist.  The closest I can find is under the File option>Home Sharing where my only option is to turn off home sharing.  There is no home sharing icon and Apple TV insist that the home sharing is not turned on.
I must be missing something obvious here.

  • Boxes around icons, duplicates in Apple menu and File menu

When I select something on the desktop, such as an icon, a box with a black outline appears around the icon. Same thing happens when I open a folder. The highlighted name will show a box with outline around it.
Also, if I go under the Apple, I can see 2 restarts, 2 shut downs, 2 logouts, and a force quit finder under the force quit.
If I go under File in the finder, there are 2 move to trash.
How do I get rid of this?

Look at this KB article: Mac OS X 10.4: Some Apple menu items appear twice, which should help you.
To turn off "VoiceOver", read this KB article: Mac OS X 10.4: Computer speaks unexpectedly, or a black box unexpectedly appears around a file, folder, or other item.

Could be a third party app preventing you from being able to login.
Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
If it's not a third party issue, follow the instructions here.
Quit the MAS if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder.
Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files from the Caches folder to the Trash
From the same Library folder open the Preferences folder.
Move these files Preferences folder to the Trash: com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
Same Library folder open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch the MAS.

Yes.  Apple > Software Update is only for Apple products.  For other products, you need to check with the people who made it.

  • Apple Menu Bar Icons Gone

All the Apple Menu Items are gone. 3rd party icons are still there. I did already what was suggested in another topic by BDAqua:
    +In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist+
    +In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.+
+This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).+
    No result!
Here is how it happened: I had a problem with external drives (firewire) and a USB cardreader. After I tried several things that were mentioned in this forum (and elsewhere) I reinstalled OS 10.4.11 with the combo updater (it was suggested somewhere that this could solve the firewire problem). When I restarted after the new install of OS 10.4.11, all the Apple Menu Icons had disappeared.
The good thing: The firewire problem is solved (I think), but I want my Menu Icons back! HELP, please!
    Thank you
    Chris

Yeah, that's the first thing to try.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc...

  • I dont like Apple store under the APPLE menu

I upgraded to 10.6.7 today and the first thing I noticed was the "Apple store" is now under the apple menu instead of the "Mac OSX Software".
I dont like it and deited to get rid of it and I did so by using the AppZapper utility.
Deleted apple store and now my menu is back to "Mac OSX Software"
Just wanted to share if anyone else dont like the "Apple Store" under the apple menu.

When I click Mac osx software then I get to this page as bf
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/
And BTW I live in a country where APP store is not supported yet, I can buy anything there so for me of no good.
I also dont like to be able to get direct via menu to the App store , If I had a account there and I forget to close it , then sombody gets to my computer and spends on my account,,,,
Maby Im totally wrong with this , but I just dont like this APP store to be pushed upon me via direct apple menu. Maby next update we will start our computers directly into the app store ?????
BTW my first Apple computer was a Apple 2e and I have always loved apple, macintosh and its operating system , but I dont like if its heading this way.

  • Blinking Apple menu/"mailman" icon

I bought a G3 from someone. They seem to have deleted all the applications, but my apple menu is continually blinking between the apple and a little "mailman" looking icon... like a little man with an envelope. It's driving me insane!! What's going on? Please help me kill the mailman!

Look in the System Folder>Control Panels, System Folder>Extensions, and System Folder>Startup Items for the clues.

Hello. I've Apple TV 3rd gen and MacBook Pro 2013 all with latest updates. AirPlay works fine till I don't start streaming videos from YouTube. After that AirPlay icon from MacBook menu bar simply disappears. Could some help. I'm using 2 Mbps internet connection.

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers  like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.
