No Images in Any Folders

I am using Aperture 2.1.4 and when opening Aperture I see all of my folders and projects listed in the Inspector but now only outlines of the images.
Here is what triggered this. By mistake I transferred the Aperture Library icon in my Pictures folder to the trash. Returning to Aperture I received a message disk nearly full and Aperture may be affected (or some similar wording). I believe I emptied the trash. I reopened the trash but still saw the icon for the Aperture library and dragged it back into the Pictures folder. The size for the icon is listed in the Finder as being 30.3 MB. When I open Aperture, I see the usual message about "Items not yet stored in a vault" with the number I was seeing previoulsy, that is unchanged. (Different from previously is that I now get a dialog box "Would you like to import the sample projects" that I was not getting before.) The Inspector shows all of my folders and projects including the ones I created earlier in this session. In the browser I see dotted outlines of the images but no images themselves. The number and shape of the boxes corresponds to the images that were there previously. Like ghosts of the images.
I have some of my photos backed up on an external hard disk but not a very large number of recent ones. Is there any way to recover everything?

To summarize, per your advice I created a new empty library, restored much of my lost library from the vault, downloaded the images that had not been saved in the vault from a card (will have to be reprocessed though), created a new vault on a new external drive, and successfully backed up the new library in the new vault.

(1) I am using Lion, should I upgrade to Mt. Lion before switching to Aperture 3?
That does not really matter - Aperture 3.4.5 works well with 10.7.5 and 10.8.4. If you are planning to upgrade to Mavericks in the autumn, you might wish to wait and not invest into Mt. Lion for only a few month. I personally like Mt. Lion much more than Lion - some features are back, that were gone in Lion.
(2) You suggested applying Library First Aid to rebuild my library. Is there any risk to this, is it important to do this before upgrading?
It is Apple's suggestion in the Release Notes and I second that recommendation.
Upgrading the library from AP 2 to 3 will have to convert the library to a very different new format. The upgrade of the Aperture library may fail, if the library has a corruption, and we have had quite a few post here, where exactly that had happenend. So it is essential to do the repair (permissions, database, and rebuild in that order) before you are trying to upgrade.
The repair options are fairly routine, but it is generally recommended to backup the library before trying to rebuild. Rebuilding is also routine troubleshooting measure, but it is a major transformation.
(3) You suggested making a backup of the Aperture 2 Library "just in case"; I assume that this is in addition to the backup in the vault on an external drive. Is there a preferred way to make such a backup? Just duplicated the library icon in the Pictures folder, rename it, and move it somewhere else?
Since you already have a vault, I'd indeed duplicate the library to a different folder (or drive), also a copy of Aperture 2.

DW does not create any folders for you, except those used by DW code (Templates and SpryAssets for example).
It's up to you to organize your site the way that makes the most sense to you by adding in folders like images, content, pages, etc.
Just don't move files out of any of the automatically generated folders that DW does give you, that can break things (especially Template .dwt files).

Import images WITHOUT any IPTC metadata

I've been racking by brain trying to work out how to do this, but cannot find a way, I'm sure it's something simple.
When I import my files the keywords are always imported and put into the top of the keyword directory instead of nested in folders I have organised in the keyword HUD. To solve this I have to remove all the new keywords, then import my IPTC metadata using iView Media Pro and the excellent Annoture.
Is there a way to import images without any IPTC data coming with them? I have tried 'Add Metadata From: All IPTC' and had it set to replace and left the fields blank, but this did not work.
Any ideas?

Ok, half way there. I downloaded an app called Pref Setter to edit the preferences by deleting the array strings that I no longer needed.
Also you can adjust the hierarchy of the auto completion data. I found that helpful with the copyright field since they all start off the same.
Need to still find a way to have the data automatically entered from a default setting, with out having to start typing.

Can I put a generic image on event folders in iPhoto?

I have some events that have sad memories and I would like to be able to use a generic image on these folders so that I don't see the painful image every time I open iPhoto? Is there a way to do this? Or any other suggestions?

You can use any image from within the Event as the key photo, so, put a photo that's not painful in there and use that.

Can't see images in any browser

I cannot see any image in any browser if I use a testing
server. I know the server is configured correctly. This site has
been working fine for the last two months, and now since I tried to
install net web developer express edition 5, the site has been
trashed. I was using asp.net, then went to php ( on IIS),
coldfusion, and now asp. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
dreamweaver. I ried installin gother browsers. I've tried
everything. It's not in the preferences, I don't know where it is.
But I can see them fine, if I remove the testing server, and just
view the pages locally in the browser.
Can someone please tell me what could be causing this. I've
been working on it none stop for three days, and I'm getting very
frustrated. Last night I wanted to throw this computer across the
room. I have to get this finished. Thanks.

guess- the paths to the images are site root relative (start
with a leading
/slash) and the site's local address is to a subfolder (like
http://localhost/thissite/ )
if that's it-
fix one- convert all the paths to document relative.
(the pulldown at the bottom of the "Browse to File" dialog
box in dw)

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

Yes, the printer is on, it’s selected in Printer Set-Up & I’ve never had this problem before. It’s definitely a Photoshop issue as every other type of file prints fine. I’ve uninstalled Pshop & am now reinstalling. Hope that will do the trick.

Bridge CS6 Script to Find Multiple Images in Multiple folders.

Is it possible to have a script to find multiple images within multiple folders that is on a external hard drive?
For instances I have a external hard drive assuming it's for a library of pictures.
Inside this hard drive has folders named as below
1-1000
1001-2000
2001-3000
3001-4000
If I had a perfect csv file for example that calls out for specific pictures for example 2, 10,1500 and 2000 (remember think big, it may be a larger list than this it could be hundreds or thousands of pictures); is there a script that would allow me to find these images and save a copy of them on to my desktop so that way I don't have to hunt for them in the old fashion way? I can read scripts but writing them is a different story.

If you want to go with Batch I would recommend creating an Action of more or less these steps:
• set the resolution to the same as the background image’s
• change the image from Background Layer to regular Layer if necessary
• convert it to a Smart Object
• add a Drop Shadow Layer Style to the image (do not use Global Angle)
• place the background image (File > Place …)
• move it behind the image layer
• Image > Reveal All
• make Selection from that layer’s transparency (cmd-click its icon in the Layers Panel) and use Image > Crop
• select and transform the image layer to fit the intended position
This would naturally work out best if the images had the same size and proportions.
For the reflection on the floor duplicate the image, flip it vertically, move it in position and reduce its opacity to maybe 10%.
Realistically you may have to hide it partially behind the pillows, a Vector Mask would be an option.

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

What you basically need is to have some sort of web application (for instance PHP or JSP) that receives the HTTP request coming from your mobile application, create the corresponding directories and saves the uploaded file.

Working Backwards - is the image in any Indesign Documents?

Hi guys
Here at my place of work IT are continually trying to keep the amount of data on our network as low as possible.
To do this they produce a large files report and a duplicate files report.
Using indesign and packaging files as we do, we are quite often culprits of the large files or more often than not duplicate files.
Because it isn't just us that has access to our images etc we feel we have to package our documents because of the risk of a file being moved or deleted and therefore losing its link to indesign.
My question is this: If we have an image, a jpg for example, is there a way of seeing any indesign files that that is linked to? This way, if we have a large image file, we can see if it is connected to any of our indesign files and then if not, reduce / delete it without the fear of affecting any documents.
