No images in design view

I know this has been asked before and I've searched out each
one and went through to make sure I had everything in line before I
asked.
1.) "Display External Files" is checked in the View menu
2.) The files are stored on a server AND I have them on my
local hard drive. I have the proper path i.e. <img src="
http://www.blahblahblah.com/image/whatever......>
I have other files on my local drive and my server and I put
those image paths in there and they show just fine. But now it
seems no matter the type of file I save from either PS or Ai
Dreamweaver can't find the file????
All that I see right now is the little gray 32x32 box with
the ripped paper looking thing on it...
Here is the site:
http://www.buscovoice.com/
You can see in the code that the image is showing in the
source.
Anyone have a clue??????

What do you have in your HTTP Address field in the Local site
definition?

  • Cannot preview remote image in design view

    Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver 2004 MX and has just inserted an image referencing to a remote server.
However, Dreamweaver is unable to preview the image and only a small gray box can be observed.
I can preview it when the page in browser.
    What's wrong with my DW?
    Thanks

I'm not sure whether Dreamweaver MX 2004 has the ability to display external images in Design view. In Dreamweaver CS4, you turn this feature on and off by selecting Commands > Display External Files. If that option isn't available on your Commands menu, it means your version of Dreamweaver doesn't support the display of external files.
Unfortunately not, David. Handling external links was not introduced until DW8 (one after MX 2004).
Commands > Display External Files was introduced in the 8.0.1 updater for DW8 to enable this new (at the time) feature to be switched off.

  • Why, since CS6 does DW now use ABSOLUTE image paths when dragging images into Design View from a folder in Finder?!

While I am grateful the previous issue I had with not being able to drag files into design view at all (in CC and CC2014) was resolved.
Guys (Adobe), seriously, if you're going to change the functioning of something that used to work just fine, at least supply a way for a user to revert to the old way... I absolutely loathe that I need a legacy version of DW to continue with my current workflow. Please put it back to the way it was, or at least allow a user to chose between the two behaviours.
If there is a way to do this, without using the Site Manager (which still doesn't work from Finder even with relative to document selected), I would appreciate any guidance.
As for using the Site Manager (before some smart guy suggests that I just use that) I do not wish to navigate to and create up to 20 "sites" a week and wait for DW to cache them all, when I am already in the folder with the image assets in Finder.
Also before someone pipes up and says: "You shouldn't be diving sites in design view anyway", I don't... I develop many, many newsletters every week and the folder structure is such that navigation to the actual image folder using the Site Manager would be painful at best.
I don't really like having to and replace all instances of "file:///Users/me/Work/company/Mailers/Year/wk14/mailer/dev/img/prod5.jpg". It is horrendously wasteful, time-wise.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies

Sorry Murray, DW used to have an idea, my point is that since CS6 its developed a case of Amnesia.
The "elements" are in the "root" folder as follows:
    newslettername.htm
    img
         imagename.jpg
So the relative path would be <img src"img/imagename.jpg" />
    However since the change: <img src"file:///Users/me/work/Company/year/week/campaign/img/imagename.jpg" />
Which is completely useless and needs to be corrected before I upload the html anywhere.
As for using the site directory, I did answer that in my initial post. I use a laptop, I really don't want a site manager taking half my screen just so I can see the folder structure and navigate with that, especially since I am already at the files I need in Finder.
Again, this is something that used to work just fine in previous iterations of DW, so I don't believe Adobe is incapable of fixing it nor am I being unreasonable asking for a choice for those that may find the local absolute paths useful in some way. All I want is to be able to chose not to use absolute paths when dragging from Finder.

  • DW CS3 problem with PNG-8 images in Design View?

DW CS3 (build 3481) on XP seems to have problems with PNG-8 images, specifically trying to display them in design view.
I had a very simple image that was able to be exported by Fireworks CS4 as PNG-8 using 4 colors (no transparency) for a tiny file size under 250 bytes.
DW could not display it at all, or even recognize it, reporting it was 0 x 0 in size. I published the page anyway, and it looked fine in the browser.
I upped the number of colors to 32, and DW could then display it in design view in the page I was working on.
I'm still having problems with other PNG-8 images. The attached file "temp.jpg" is a screenshot showing part of the design view in DW.
The smaller image on the left of the banner is "58_certificate_of_discharge.png" (attached), and the larger image below is used as the background of the DIV containing the form,"compassbk.png" (also attached).
These images all look fine in the browser, but terrible in DW.
    I'm stumped as to why.
    Thanks in advance.

According to a different discussion, the images that are stuck as "Queued" are showing a bug in the virus scanning on the forums.
Now trying the recommended 'camera icon' method...
    Looks like it worked.
Now compare what it looks like in DW CS3 in the design view:
    It's a 16 color PNG-8 made in Fireworks CS4 with no transparency, size is 113 x 58, ending up at 1.71K.
If this is a repeatable problem in CS3, is there any hope of it being resolved, or am I stuck with upgrading to CS4 as my only option (assuming it's fixed in CS4)?
    Thanks.

  • Viewing Images in Design view

Well I've been working on my site prior to getting
dreamweaver, and I open the .html of one of my pages, but it
doesn't show anything but the images in a grey box and text in
tables. When I preview in a browser it looks perfect though, is
design view supposed to be like this? Also whether it makes a
difference or not, the .html is already uploaded on my site so my
    image links are www.website.com/img/image.gif
I also included a screenshot, just incase I don't make sense.

  • Root relative images and design view

I have many sites that have root relative image paths
(src="\images\sample.gif") that I've coded by hand in DW8.
I don't use design view that much, buy one of our designers
does. The problem is none of the images with root-relative paths
    will appear in design view.
I have specified valid paths in my site definitions, so
    what's the issue?

    > I have specified valid paths in my site definitions, so
    what's the issue?
Hard to say - perhaps the developer's site is not properly
    defined. There
should be no issue displaying root relative linked images in
    DW's Design
view, since DW knows where the root of the site is. What is
    in the HTTP
address field of the local site definition?

  • Problem with Scrollable image in design view.

So I have defined I want my layout to be scrollable, and that works when I preview it. But the problem is it is not scrollable in design view. Why is this? is there away to fix this?
    Thank's in advance.

Design View doesn't process code like a brower does. It's primarily used for viewing layout.
    Hence the name Design View.
You want to click on Live View while in Design View

  • Why is Image in design view but not in browser?

Why when I insert an image from root folder it shows in design but not in live view or browser? I have opened a new blank html page and still no image will show up.

Do you have an editable region in your main Template head tags?
Just so you know.  Making a template out of an HTML document is just about the last step in your design process.
First build your prototype.html page so that everything performs well in all browsers.  When you're completely satisfied with how it looks, then Save As Template.dwt.
Add editable regions for content that will change from page to page.
Spawn New page from template and save as index.html for your home page.  Repeat for other site pages.

  • Poor Image Quality -- Design View & Published Content (CP8)

If I prepare a high-quality image, picture perfect, sharp, sized to let's say 500 x 500 px in Photoshop  (max JPG quality setting) and then dump into Captivate, I find that Captivate significantly degrades the image quality.  It changes the sharpness of the image and destroys exposure settings like colour saturation and hue.  Even if I publish to an LMS with 24-bit, no compression, it still looks degraded.
Is there any way to improve image quality?

I am on PC, not on Mac and have used this feature all the time since (not totally sure) version 5. Maybe it is a Mac bug?
This is a screenshot, I imported a Photoshop file 'IconsTips' and choose to import Layers as images, you'll see the folder with 6 images.

  • CS3 - Viewing HTML in code window, when selecting  a image in design window on split mode wont work .

Does any 1 know how i can enable my split to be able to
select a image from the design mode window with mouse, and have it

I have just upgraded to CS3 and in DW MX2004 i could select

But atm all i can do is highlight and right click the text

That works for me on WinXP. After selecting your image in

try hitting Ctrl+` on Win or Cmd+` on Mac to switch focus to

  • CS5 Design View: local page + images on server - images don't display

I've recently upgraded to DW CS5. I sometimes have occasion to design pages containing images that are on the server.
In DW8, images on the server would display in Design View.
In DW CS5, images on the server display a broken image icon in Design View.
Yes, I know I can switch to Live View, but I'd rather not, as I find Live View very difficult to edit in (if at all; I can somewhat edit in the code, but what's the point?). I'd far rather be able to see the images as I'm writing the page in Design View.
Am I missing some setting somewhere, or is this the way it is?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Thanks so much for this. Really appreciated.
Used to be under the Commands menu long ago. Obviously relocated to the View menu.
That means that Adobe's own online Help docs for CS5 are incorrect.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-7cc1a .html
Note: When inserting images it’s also possible to use an absolute path to an image that resides on a remote server (i.e., an image that is not available on the local hard drive). If you experience performance problems while working, however, you might want to disable viewing the image in Design view by deselecting Commands > Display External Files.

  • No images Design View

I upgraded to CS3 today and for some reason I can no longer
see images in design view. The images are linked absolute to a
server and when previewed in a browser they work fine. The images
use to show up fine in DW8 so I'm a little confused as to why it's
not in it's successor. Ive done some searching and nothing came up
for this problem so I apologies if it's been brought up before. Any
    help is appreciated.

  • Dreamweaver CC - Design view images broken

A client contacted me today about how his DW design view is no longer showing external images.  He thought it was the code. Now I don't use the design view very often, but it's doing it for me too. Every older project I open has broken images in design view.  These are all images that are online and are using external links (HTML emails) so there is no reason for those images to be broken.  They show in the Live View just fine, but my client can't edit with Live View.  So, I updated DW and then found that they are also offering what looks like a new version, DW CC 2014.  I downloaded that one and am having the same problem.
I've searched for about an hour now and can't find any solution to this.  Does anyone know what is wrong here?

    Hello jennisue,
Apologies for the issue you are facing but this is a known issue & sadly would not be taken up for a fix.
I would urge you instead to try out the new Live view editing capabilities in DW CC 2014.

  • No images show up in Design View. Help please......!!!

Trying to edit an existing webpage in Dreamweaver CS5. I already defined a site which is the local folder of the existing webpage. However, I was just unable to display any images in Design View.  My inline CSS codes are:
    <STYLE type=text/css>
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    #mainpage {
    background: #F4FBFF url(\Images\img01.jpg) repeat-x;
    <style>
The reference to the image is correct. It's just under the Image folder of the defined site. However I just couldn't manage to get the background image showing up in Design View. If I edit the above CSS codes as a seperate style file and link it to the webpage, yes I can see the image in Design View. But I just don't understand why the inline CSS codes don't work.
    Can anyone help me, please?
    Many thanks!

  • 3rd party tags and design view customization

I know that Dreamweaver allows me to replace third party tags
with images in design view. My question is can I make my jsp widget
tags look dependent on attributes of that tag?
And why can’t I say that my <widget:suggestionBox
    … size=”10” /> should look like a <input
    size=”10” /> in design view?
Are there plans to support this long overlooked functionality
    in the near future?

Well I am sure you wrote in good faith and I appreciate
anybodys help . However, I do not want to be rude, but if you have
nothing to say, than please don't post something useless. I am sure
there are many areas where you can post real solutions.
Of course DW works nicely with xsl in design view. My problem
was finally answered in another thread, I hope that link works.

I mark this as the answer, so everybody with that problem
    knows where the solution is.
