No imessage option on my iphone4

I have an iPhone 4 and for imessage you're supposed to go to settings and it should be under messages, right? But I can't find it anywhere. Help please!

Are you on a build of iOS 5? If so, try going into Settings<General<Restrictions and see if toggling those will do anything. I reset mine by accident and was prompted to sign into my Apple acct. for iMessage. You may want to also try resetting your phone settings by going into Settings<General<Reset<Reset All Settings

  • No group message option in iMessage option in settings

For some reason I don't have a group messaging option under iMessage options, I'm using a 5s and running ios 7.1.1

The Group Message option is not an iMessage option, it is an MMS message option. It will disappear if you have MMS Messaging turned off. It is also possible that it could be related to your cellular carrier/plan. The following quotation is from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5760
The Group Messaging setting applies only to MMS messages.
Your wireless carrier may restrict the maximum number of recipients allowed in a group message with MMS.
Disabling Group Messaging has no effect on iMessage behavior. Responses to group iMessages are always sent to all recipients.
Group messaging with MMS requires an appropriate plan from your carrier for use on iPhone.
Carrier messaging rates may apply when using group messaging with MMS.

How to delete a phone number in "send and receive" imessage option (iOS 6.0) ?
    Thks for tip ;-)

Why? Is the number incorrect? It gets your phone number from the SIM.

  • How to not be given an iMessage option

I had an iPhone and recently switched to a Nokia Lumia. However, I'm not getting a lot of texts, particularly people with iPhones. They have said their phone automatically sends the texts as an iMessage, so I never get it. I called my provider and after giving them the serial number for my phone, it still wasn't fixed. I called again and ended up backing up and restoring the phone and it seemed to work, but my friends say that every once in a while, it will still automatically send their text as an iMessage. What do I do to get rid of this?
    Thanks

If you can put your SIM card into your old iPhone and DEACTIVATE iMessage, that should do the trick.
If not, call Apple and have them disassociate your phone # from iMessage.

  • Pass code unlock option no long available on my Iphone4

Please help.  I can no longer see the pass code unlock option on my Iphone4.  Although I realize the importance of security, this feature can become a nuisance when you have to continuously type in the pass code.  I do not have Microsoft Exchange or is it tied into corporate email.  My Iphone is for personal use only.  This is extremely frustrated when driving and you need to type in the pass code in order to reach the phone pad.  I am on version 4.3.5.  With the focus on driving and texting, I am surprised Apple would run the risk of forcing someone to type a password while driving.  Thank you.

Thank so much for the quick response.  Took your advice and everything appears to be working!!!

  • HT2534 It doesnt come up with the 'none' option on Iphone4s

I can't choose a 'none' option on the iphone4s... and its declining my card for some reason:/

I know of no way with a 4G.
You said "Also, when I go to AirPlay and connect to my Mac, it doesn't come up with the On and Off slider." I do not understand what you mean. The USB cable does not have anyting to do with airplay and you can't AirPlay to to computer unless you are using a programs like Reflector but if yo have an iPod you need a 5G iPod

  • Why won't iMessage activate on iphone4 that is only connected to wifi?

What is preventing iMessage from activating on iPhone4?

No imessage is free in the states, but you need SMS service to activate imessage per this link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
That is probably the reason the OP can't activate imessage, he/she is only connected to wifi probably as an ipod.

  • My iPhone4 is having problems with contacts

My iPhone4 has suddenly stopped recognising one of my contacts as being a fellow iPhone user and is now not giving me the option to iMessage that number. I tried deleting the contact and re-entering the data but the same things keeps happening - no iMessage option.
Strangely, the contact appears twice - once with facebook data and once as a number. I can't delete the contact with the facebook data - it offers the option but if I hit delete, nothing happens. If I try adding the phone number to the facebook contact it initially gives me an option to enter an iPhone number but then it switches it automatically to "home". If I try to edit it back to iPhone, I can't because there the option is gone.
I have tried turning iMessage on and off and that hasn't helped. I've tried re-booting and turning it off and on and nothing seems to be working.
Can anyone suggest how I can resolve this?

Just to clarifty, if I try to add a new contact, the option of putting in an iPhone number is not available at all.

  • How to set up iMessages?

I already have my phone and computer connected, and it works well I just have a couple of questions about where to receive and send them.
I want to be able to send messages from my computer, but still be able to read the conversation from my phone, however I don't know how to do that. I can see them from my computer but they are not showing on my phone.
Also, how do I not let the other person see my e-mail address? When I send messages from my computer, the other person has two different conversations: with my phone number, and my email.
Apple gives the options on where to be reached at, and where to send them to. But I am entirely confused as to which boxes I should click so that I can set up my iMessages how I want to.
    Any feedback is welcome:)

    Hi imjessiesgirl,
Have you set up your iMessage option on both your phone and your Mac? If so, then you should have both your phone number and your email address(es) checked in the set up for iMessage in both places under the "You can be reached at iMessage at:" section.
Under "Start new conversations from", you have the option to select your phone number or your email address on both the phone and the Mac. You can select your phone number in both places, or your email address in both places, or not. I have my phone "Start new...." set with my phone number and my Mac set with my email address....
The places you do the setting up are:
    Mac:          Messages>Preferences>Accounts
    iPhone:     Settings>Messages
Post back if you have any specific questions about one or the other....
    Cheers,

  • Is there a way to use iMessage but not have the texts sync to my iPad or other devices, just stay on my iPhone?

I don't like when things from my phone sync to my iPad or iPod, so I am wondering if there is a way to keep the texts on my phone and off of everything else.  I share my iPad with others and don't want to be in the middle of a conversation when all of a sudden it just appears while someone else is using the iPad.  In addition, I don't want the messages to syn to the computer when I plug my phone in, as I also share the computer with others.  This has kept me from using iMessage because of how iCloud works, but maybe I just don't have a good understanding of how they work and someone can clear it up for me.  Thanks.

I don't even see the iMessage option on my iPad anywhere. Maybe it needs to be updated?
Does this have anything to do with iCloud or just iMessage?

  • HT4061 I traded in my iPhone for samsung. The info n it has been wiped out. Don't have he serial no. Because I was not able to to receive txt mags from former imessage iPhone users verizon had me delete my iPhone and my ipad products in Apple store. Not w

Yesterday i traded my iPhone for a galaxy. All of my contacts who have iPhones can no linger text me because my phone number when chosen comes up with imessage option only. The only way they can txt me is to shut off their imessage when texting to me then have to out it back on for others - this is not the correct solution. So i then called verizon tech and also went in person to make sure my iPhone imessage was off before they wiped it clean. It still didn't work. I then went online and to the apple store and edited all my devices and removed them from the apple store and still not working. He last thing I did was went into my only other device, the ipad and went into imessage and took my phone number out of the screen and then shut off imessage there too. Somehow my phone number is still associated with iPhone. The iPhone is wiped clean. Hopefully you can help

Call AppleCare, because, according to Apple, removing the devices from your support profile should have fixed this issue. You can also try changing your Apple ID password, but given what you've done, I doubt this will help.

  • Need Help Understanding How To Use iMessage Between Two iPhones

I have an iPhone 4 and my wife an iPhone 3GS.  We both have iOS 5, but I have discovered something about iMessage I need to make sure I understand correctly.  As I understand it iMessage can send text even if our voice carrier service is unavailable.  I tend to loose signal inside the building I work in.  I usually can get texts in and out, but sometimes not.  But in testing the two phones sending iMessages, I've noticed is that if I have one of the phones with iMessage turned on and the other with iMessage turned off, the two phones will not be able to exchange text.  Is that how it's supposed to work?  Even though one of these phones can receive an iMessage doesn't mean the other one send one back.  Can't the system detect when one phone is connected and another one not, and the one that is not gets sent SMS messages instead?  I don't want to try to send my wife an iMessage because I can't get a voice signal in my building, but her have iMessages turned off and not able to get any messages from me, iMessage or SMS.  I guess I need help better understanding how this actually works between the two phones so I can always get texts back and forth between my wife and I.  My other misgiving is that this iMessage thing consumes my data limit.  My wife gets unlimited because she had her phone before the limits were imposed, but I got on board after, so I am hesitant to use iMessage all the time because of it.  I have no intention to send picture mail through iMessage, but the thing is if I wanted to switch to SMS to send picture mail to save data, but my wife's phone is set to iMessage, she won't get it.  If this is how this thing is supposed to work, I'm not really impressed.  Some insight would be appreciated

I think you are making this way too complicated. Why are you turning iMessage off? If you are at your office connect to the WiFi there and send your wife messages that way (unless your office is blocking the port iMessage uses). When possible the two phones will use iMessage but will revert to SMS is iMessage is not available if that option is set that way.
I would not worry about using up your data plan if you have the 2GB, text iMessages are going to be very small and MMS (picture) ones are not very large either. Unless you are sending hundreds of picture iMessages a day you will have a hard time using up your data.
If you are near an Apple Store you should explore signing up for an intro iPhone course and have them run through iMessage options.

  • IMessages sending to iPhone without data/wifi

    Hi all,
When I text my friend with my iPhone it goes through and says "delivered" however it is sending through as iMessage. My friend however has no data plan. I thought it was when she had wifi but the times I texted, she didn't and it still went through as an iMessage. I checked her settings and texts/messages only send/receieve to that number, and same with mine. When I send the message, I try and highlight the message to see if it will allow me the option of "sending as text message" but it sends right away, the message "delivered" comes up and when I highlight the message my only option is to "copy."
This has never happened before, only within the last two to three weeks. I don't know if it's an update issue but it's bugging the both of us. I tried the exact same situation with my brother who has data (and I put his iMessages off) and it will automatically go through as a text message. So now it comes down to me always having to go to my iMessages options and disabling it just to send a text to my friend which should regularly just go through.
    Any help is much appreciated!!

    Figured it out:
She recently enabled iMessages on her iPad. All the messages were sending there...but what still confuses me is that the messages went through even when she didn't have wifi on either devices...
ah well. I'll save that for another day. I've solved my frustrations lol. Thanks for the help!

  • Texts send as iMessage to Samsung user

    Hey Guys,
I have a huge problem with texting people who switched phones from iPhone to ie Samsung or Sony and no longer have iMessage option.
My iPhone still recognizes these contacts as iPhone(iMessage).
Everytime I want to text them I have to switch the iMessage option off (or really quickly press the button 'send as an sms'. , but thats no fun or working well whatsoever).
Do you know how can I 'tell' my iphone that these contacts are no longer iPhone users, so please don't try to iMessage them?
Please help me, cause this is really annoying.
    Thanks

It's not your problem, it's their problem.
Tell them to read this article and follow the instructions: Can’t receive text messages on a non-Apple phone
