No 'import as live photoshop 3D' option

I have created a 3D sphere in PS CS6 and want to import it into after effects to animate. But when I import the model the option to import as a live 3d model is not coming up? Why is this? What have I done wrong?

Element doesn't "make" 3D models, it just renders them using OpenGL. It can produce extruded text and similar just like CS6 itself and comes with a selection of basic shapes and models. Additional models can be bought or downloaded for free from their site, TurboSquid and a million other sites (some of mine: http://myleniumstuff.com/category/3d-rendering/) For more info refer to the VC website. If you need to craft your own models, you still need a 3D program liek the fgree Blender...

  • AE will not import live photoshop 3d correctly

Hi, I've spent a lot of time researching forums, watching tutorials trying to solve this problem to know avail.  I have found some threads that have the same problem, but no solutions have worked.  I'm using CS4 in both photoshop and AE.  My problem is that no matter what I do I cannot correctly import photoshop 3d live layers into aftereffects and have them work properly.  Basically once I save or create the 3d file or 3d shape as a psd, when I import it into AE it does not create the comp correctly where it creates the camera, and controler layer (per the tutorials I have watched).  It simply brings in the PS file as a straight 2d.  Here is what I have done and tried.
    1) within photoshop the 3d object all works fine. I've tried numerous models and even used the adobe car model  that was part of the tutorial There seems to be no issues when working inside PS.  I have even created just a simple 3 d shape in PS and tried importing that into AE with the same results. I am saving all of these as .psd files.
    2) When importing I have made sure that the import as live photoshop3d layer box is checked
    3) Within AE after importing, I have opened the comp that was imported to see if the camera layer and controler layer are there...they are not, only the PS layer (2d) is there.
    4) I havewithin aftereffects to edit original on the layer which brought me back into PS, I made a slight color change and saved and when going back into AE it reflected the changes I made correctly. I tried to do this to make sure dynamic link was working correctly.
    5) I tried to manually within AE to convert the layer to a photoshop live 3d layer (since it didnt do it correctly upon initial import) I get an error message that reads....  no photoshop live 3d layer found.
It just seems that upon import, AE is not recognizing that it is a 3d photoshop live layer, thus does not create the necessary things (camera and controller) as needed. Are there any preferences that I may need to enable within AE for this to work.  Truthfully I don't know for sure that it couldnt be a problem with PS, but since everthing 3d seems to work correctly in PS, I believe the problem has to do with AE.
I'm really at a loss at what else to do, everything else in AE works fine.  Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds rather odd, but I remeber there was an issue along those lines that got fixed in the 9.0.2 update. If you haven't already, try to install it. Also check the rendering style of your model in PS. You may have assigned something there that would not produce visible results and thus AE may ignore it. As a last thing, check your OpenGL settings in AE and PS and your graphics driver. Since PS handles this as a hardware accelerated feature, bad graphics configuration might also make it go boom... For more details it would help if you could produce some screenshots of your settings and import attempts....

Edit: Definitely make sure to turn off the sequence option in the AE import dialog! This might, after all, be the problem here...

  • Live Photoshop 3D Import Help

I've been trying to get a 2D logo imported into after effects as a 3D image with a slight extrusion to add some depth. I can create the image as I want in photoshop as a 3D image layer, and I save it as a .PSD file. Whenever I try to import the image into after effects as a composition, I do not get the checkbox for "Live Photoshop 3d". I've been looking around, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help?

    Seems odd to remove features.
Look up the "It was too much work" threads on this forum for explanations why things got chopped.
    What was it replaced with?
Nothing. you need to buy plug-ins to import 3D geometry.
I've tried the extrusion in AE, but it only works on solids.
Read the help! It works with text and shape layers.

  • I`d like to import a 3D-psd-file. Missing the "Live Photoshop 3D"-field in the import-window.

    I got a 3D-file (3ds). I would like to animate it.
In Photoshop there all layers and the gfx is perfect.
    Saving.
While importing the file into After Effects, I should chose "Live Photoshop 3D", but there isn't any possibility.
This should be an add-on, plug-in, etc.
Does anybody know, how to get it..?

What version of AE do you have? If you have CC or CC 2014 (versions 12 and 13 respectively), you can use Cinema 4D to render this. Cinema 4D Lite comes free with After Effects! details of CINEMA 4D integration with After Effects CC

  • Live Photoshop 3D

    Hi!
i was amazed when i found out that this was possible but was very pissed to find out that I cant make this work. when i import it, the .psd file is just a 2d image like a normal boring picture in the composition. it doesn't have any cameras or null obejct in it. i've done everything but for some reason my after effects can't read the .psd file with the 3d layers or there's something wrong with my photoshop.
when i right click it (02:53 on the video) a message appears:
after effects error: no photoshop 3d layers were found
importing it and enabling live photoshop 3d  like in the video doesn't work for me
so basically what i've done is open a .3ds or .kmz or. DAE (since i can export models in three different formats and from what i've been told photoshop can handle them) i didn't do anything to them and just saved them as a .psd. then i imported them in after effects clicking the live photoshop 3D and making it a composition. after that it just imports it just like a normal 2d image without a camera and null object inside a composition.
i have cs5 of photoshop and cs4 of after effects.
    thanks in advance!

    Hi!
Thank you all for your help and answers but unfortunately the problem still persist....
I've re-Installed my Photoshop CS4 and done the same things again. Here it still doesnt work.
It's like i never even installed CS4. It still gives me the same results like before..
I dont wanna give up but this is getting on my nerves...
    Thanks anyways guys!

Surely you realize the simple issue this creates: neither solution works for CS6 users. Hence, why I feel like such users are left in the cold when it comes to importing 3D.
Am I crazy? What am I missing about this simple issue? Pre-CS6 users didn't have to pay extra to import 3D; CC users don't have to pay extra to import 3D; why should I?
After Effects (any version) doesn't have the capability to directly import and use 3D model files, if that's what you desire. Plug-ins for After Effects CS6 like Video Copilot's Element 3D, AtomKraft, and Zaxwerks ProAnimator and 3D Invigorator allow you to work with 3D files. Cinema 4D and 3DS Max have integrated workflows with After Effects CS6 that exchange their 3D data with After Effects.
Outside of this, a common workflow is to render your 3D model to a sequence file, and then to import that into After Effects. This works regardless of which 3D modeling application or which version of After Effects you are using. Here's some information and links to resources:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/en/after-effects/using/preparing-importing-3d-image-files.html#impo rting_and_using_3d_files_from_other_applications
There's lots of information available about workflows between 3D modeling applications and After Effects that don't involve Photoshop. If you're having trouble finding what you need, I recommend creating a new thread with specific information about what applications you're using and what you're trying to accomplish.

  • How to use imported paths from Photoshop/Illustrator as motion guides

    Hi folks,
I've been raking the internet with no success for an answer to my question, but I've had no luck so far.
What I'm hoping to achieve animation wise is to have a shape move around a set path that was created in Photoshop. The reason being, it's a very specific shape (near enough a square but with curved corners and a chunk missing out of one of the sides), and I used the paths feature in Photoshop to create it and stroke the path for the smoothest possible effect. What I'd ideally like to do is import the same path I used to create the shape into Flash Professional CS6 and then use that same path to guide a small symbol around the edge of the square.
So far, I've worked out how to apply motion to a symbol through basic tweens, and then I can draw out a line using the pencil tool and apply that to the tween so it follows the pencil line instead of just going from point A to point B. The problem is, this looks awful...I'm not good enough with a mouse to create absolutely perfect shapes freehand, so I just want to be able to use the Photoshop path as my motion guide instead of having to make another one from scratch.
I've looked around for various importing methods, the most success I've had is exporting the paths to an Illustrator file, and then importing the Illustrator file into Flash directly. However, I have NO idea where these paths go when they're imported, or how to access them. If I import them to the stage, they seemingly disappear before I've even seen them, and if I import them to the library they just aren't there.
I could also do with a brief description of how paths work in Flash - I'm familiar with the Photoshop layout, what with the paths appearing in a panel next to the layers one (makes perfect sense to me, as you can just switch between the two panels to view whatever you want). I just don't understand how they work in Flash and what I should be looking for....
Many thanks in advance for any help!
    Todd

I had a play around with some variations of this. What I can't grasp is why Flash won't recognise my shape layer as a motion path. I've tried breaking it down, that doesn't work... I traced it narrowly in Photoshop and imported it as a thin line with a gap (so essentially a line with two ends), and it comes into Flash as a bitmap or something of that sort. I found an option that traces the bitmap, and appears to convert it into a shape layer...I've managed to find the optimal settings so the line is joined all the way through apart from the start and end points. The only thing is, Flash seems to not even notice this as a guide layer when I apply it to the symbol I'm trying to animate. It just doesn't even notice it's there. The object moves straight from point A to point B in a straight line, the guide layer does nothing to adjust the motion... Is it not possible for the traced line to act as a motion guide? It's a shape, it is a single line with a start point and an end point, and there are no other instances of anything else in the layer - just the line and nothing else.
This seems way more difficult than it should be...I'm sure Adobe could have integrated a MUCH easier system for importing paths from Photoshop that actually exist in Flash rather than disappearing into some abyss instead!
Here is a screenshot of what I'm working with: http://gyazo.com/4c1046767e1ee8bf99f65751b9ba81b8
The long black oval is the shape I'm trying to animate. I've tried applying tweens to it while it's in shape form and while it's in every different symbol form, all to no avail.
The black line is what I'm trying to use as the guide. Having looked online, people seem to be able to just use the "paste in place" option and it somehow knows exactly what they mean and animates around the line perfectly. I tried that and it didn't work (no surprise there), and then I tried the motion guide layer setup and it also didn't work. I'm not sure if tracing a bitmap into a shape layer somehow removes any possibility of the line being recognisable as a line or something...could that be the case?
Is there a simple way to turn a shape layer (in this case the black line) into a motion guide that I'm missing? I thought just turning the layer into a guide layer would do the trick, but obviously not :/

  • 3D photoshop file to After Effects live photoshop 3D help CS5!

    please help,
I can make my photoshop 3D logo but I try to open the .PSD in After Effects and change it to a compossision and enable live photoshop 3D, but when I open the comp its just a 2D picture and only has 1 layer and no cameras. My 3D logo is from a imported .jpg that I made in illustrator. I select it then make a repousse and it works but the problem is importing to AE. I've tried 3D > Export > 3D file saved as photoshop format, and I've tried saving as just a psd but they both do the same thing. All I get is a psd in after effects with only 1 layer containing my logo in 2D on a white background.
please help! what am I doing wrong?
    much appreciation.

  • CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options aren't working ...

The CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options that contain the Image Processing / Photomerge / HDR Pro features that open images from Bridge into Photoshop isn't working ... has this happened to anyone else?  Have you any ideas how to fix this?
I've cleared cache, windows temp files, and moved the majority of my files to my NAS drive, so the laptop (Window 8 64-bit) is fine ... or so it seems!

Did you have to uninstall everything and reinstall 2014? CC 2014 was installed automatically. My program files show Ps CC and Ps CC 2014. The automatic installation of 2014 is what caused the problem.

  • Importing Multi-Layered Photoshop CS2 files...

Hello again everyone. I trust you are all well.
I am currently constructing some tutorials for my Video Editing class and I am trying to demonstrate how to import and use Multi-layered Photoshop CS2 files inside Final Cut Express 2.0.3.
    Here is the problem:
My iBook is running Final Cut Express 2.0.3 but does not have Adobe Photoshop CS2 on it. My DELL PC is running Adobe Photoshop CS2 and I am creating my PSD's on that and then transfering those PSD's across to the iBook with either my USB stick or my iPod.
Now according to the Final Cut Express 2.0.3 Help file, "When you import a layered Photoshop File into Final Cut Express, the file becomes a sequence in your project".
However, when I import my PSD, that was created on my DELL in Photoshop CS2, into Final Cut Express 2.0.3, it does not import it as a sequence, but as a flattened still image.
Is this because I need to have Photoshop CS2 installed on my iBook for the PSD to be imported correctly as a sequence, retaining the layers, or is there a compatability issue with creating PSD's on a PC and then trying to import them into Final Cut Express 2.0.3?

Thanks for your quick reply Tom!
I had a feeling this might be the case after I did some more testing with Photoshop files created on a MAC. If I resave those PC Photoshop files on a Mac in Photoshop, they import correctly as a sequence into Final Cut Express.
    Thanks again for the advice!

  • Photoshop CS5 Optional Plugins downloaded file issue

I am trying to download the Photoshop CS5 Optional Plugins from the following Adobe website http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4688.

The downloaded file appears as follows on my desktop - PSCS5OptionalPlugins_Win_en_US.zip.av6ac0u  - whiich I'm unable to unzip and use.  I am able to download other plug ins from the Adobe site.  Is there an alternate page for downloading these files or some "trick" to downloading these particular plugins?

I'm a huge fan of the mouse myself, Noel.  As a matter of fact that's what instantly drew me to the Lisa and the Mac initially, at a time when PCs were still at the command-line stage of MS-DOS and PC users were mocking and deriding menus and the mouse.
To this day I much prefer to do anything that can be done with the mouse and/or menus without having to clutter what's left of my withered brain with the learning of commands and key combos, and my considerably handicapped hands make me a lousy typist on account of arthritis and neuropathy anyway.
But aliases ("shortcuts") on the desktop are not necessary to launch applications or open documents.  That's what The Dock is for on the Mac, which, as you can see in my screen shot above, I keep hidden below the bottom of the screen with all its icons until I bring my cursor down to hover over that area when I need it.
And I have double the logos you do.
Hehehe…   I have plenty of those in reserve.    We don't want to clutter this thread with more images than necessary.

  • Importing PDF and Photoshop files since using Windows 7 64bit

    Hi,
I recently upgraded (?) to Windows 7 64bit.  I have notices when importing PDF and photoshop files into the InDesign document, the resolution of the graphics are off and the lines are choppy.  Even the fonts are illegible.  What happened?  Are there some settings that I need to into and tweek to bring everything back into alignment and focus?  (If those are the correct words.)  When I view the PDF files in windows, they are normal.  It is only when imported into InDesign that they are distorted.
    Thank you for any help.
    Clark

I run Maximized, so the window fills the available space (you can set the shortcut properties to open that way so you don't have to do it each time), or you could resize the window from the top, then grabe the title bar and drag it upward on the screen. Windows should remember the size and position, but it may not, being Windows, after all.

  • I can't import videos into Photoshop CS6?

I just ripped a whole load of Doctor Who episodes, and I have been wanting to make .gifs of them, but every time I try to import them into Photoshop (file > import > video frames into layers (how I normally make gifs)), I get a message saying, "Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened". I don't know why this is happening, because Photoshop normally opens .avi files and all I want is to make .gifs of these Doctor Who episodes.

You should open your Dr. Who episode in adobe flash or premier pro. Probably you need to covert it. You could use the adobe media encoder. Photoshop cs6 has "intuitive Video creation" and you have to bring in the video as a mp3. I never tried it   As Photoshop is an image editing app and not created to open Video files so you could probbably use Premiere to export the individual frames and then open those in Photoshop.
