No import pane in iTunes preferences 5.0.1

I have recently updated iTunes on two of my macs.
Am I missing something or do I not have the ability to set
the bit rate for importing. The only panes that are available in
iTunes preferences are "General", 'iPod', 'Podcasts', 'Playback' which is new, 'Sharing', 'Store', 'Advanced', and 'Parental'.
Has iTunes become totally intuitive or is there another reason?
Maybe the engineers forgot to include it in the rush to plug the holes of 5.0? I do not know.

I know the feeling of a touch of panic coming up, when something that's always been there suddenly seems to have disappeared in thin air

  • Can't find "Look for shared libraries" in the Sharing pane of iTunes preferences. How can I find it?

I am trying to set up Home Sharing between my computer and my wife's. Sharing keeps disappearing from the side bar although Home Sharing is turned on for both computers. Using the Help tab it says to check the "Look for shared libraries" in the preferences/shared box. The problem is that "Look for shared libraries is not there to select. Any ideas how I can sort this out?

I'm having a similar issue even after the "Shared Libraries" box is checked in General preferences on iTunes...
On early verisons of iTunes i had no problem with sharing or remote access via iPad.  I really need to figure out how to get this working.

Error message when trying to import CD into itunes.  "Error occured while converting the file 'name of song' The required disk coannot be found"

    Hi Grigsby9,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. This error usually appears when your iTunes Media folder location is incorrectly configured in your iTunes Advanced preferences. Let’s check these preferences to makes sure that iTunes is point to a folder that exists:
Locate and organize your iTunes files - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht1391
Find and change the iTunes Media folder location
You can change the iTunes Media folder location to share music between accounts on the same computer.
    1.Mac OS X: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    2. Click the Advanced pane.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

  • Can't import CD to iTunes 10

I have a Macbook Pro with OS 10.5.8 and I'm using iTunes 10 which is the optimal version for this machine.  When I insert a music CD it goes directly to the DVD player and does not appear in iTunes so I cannot add it to my library.  I disabled all the automatic features on the DVD player and closed it; ejected and reinserted the CD and it still connected to the DVD player rather than iTunes.  I cannot find any controls for the CD itself.  Is this CD configured in a manner my iTunes cannot handle or am I missing the solution?

Check the settings in the CDs & DVDs pane of System Preferences.

  • Share/Send Song to iTunes no longer imports song to iTunes

Background: For a year now, i've used GB (3.0.5) to rip my vinyl, adjust tracks, etc and import tracks into iTunes (8.0.2). Never had a problem. Click Share/Send Song to iTunes, mix down starts, iTunes pops up and starts playing the new track~ Until...
Recently: i got a new external HD for xmas and this week i moved my iTunes Library over to it to make some room. Well, after finally getting rid of all my !-marks and finding my album artwork again- iTunes is running fine.
Now: 10 hours ago I ripped a new record in GB, split my tracks, etc and went to Share/Send Song to iTunes. Mix down starts, iTunes popped up but doesn't start playing the track!!!!!
I've been around the world trying to set a Preference here, update a Library there, googled every combination of this tale i could think of, searched the Support threads, and Nuthin.
This may be an iTunes problem. I may have messed up my Library. Will totally understand if i need to take my question to the iTunes section.
Just wondering how i can tell GB where to export the song so that it goes to my current iTunes library> Please Help!?

Solved My Own Problem: Garageband doesn't like it when you use ',/,() ,or "&" in the drive or folder names. Sorry, i thought this was resolved back in 1995.
    Thanks for looking here.

I think it's a problem of .iTunes Preferences.plist but this file has totaly disappear ( as sentinel but it's not important )
I've got the last version 11.0.1.12 ( thank you APPLE for this version because the previous one was not correct for the big library in particular for the search, now is  quite good, the duolicates are here and i don;t care of the cover flow because it has never worked well ( lack of fluidity, let's face it !! now it miss just the  cover as before at the bottom of the left column -playlists)
Before i had this file, how can i create a new one before problems and obligation to reinstall  each content of each playlist ?

  • Cannot import cd into itunes

When i insert a cd, i can play it and get cd,track info, but when i try to import, the message 'the itunes library file could not be saved. the disk could not be read from or written to' There's enough space on the hard drive, any ideas?

    Hello,
I would first suggest recreating your iTunes library file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
If that doesn't resolve it, try pulling your iTunes preferences:
Quit iTunes if it is running.
    Navigate to /User/Library/Preferences/
    Drag com.apple.itunes.plist to the trash
    Restart the Mac
    Launch iTunes again

  • How do I see the number of albums that I have import to my Itunes?

How do I see the number of albums that I have import to my Itunes?
In the earlier version of Itunes I could see the number of albums, categories etc. that I have in my Itunes. How do I see the same info in Itunes 7.1.1?
    Best Kudsk

Go to View>Show Browser and switch on the browser pane. At the top of the three categories Genre, Artist and Album you'll see "All" and the totals in brackets.

  • Can't import artwork from iTunes

After loading my two music CDs onto my music library, I cannot import the artwork from iTunes stores

To have iTunes automatically download album artwork when you import a CD or add songs with missing artwork, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Store, and select “Automatically download missing album artwork.”
If you've done that, and you still can't get the artwork, the CD may not be available at the iTunes store. You can use Amazon.com to get artwork. Look up the CD at Amazon, click the artwork to display large size and drag it to your desktop. Then you can add it to your iTunes library.
To add artwork to one item, select an item in your iTunes library and drag the art file to the artwork viewer.
To add artwork to multiple items, select an item, choose File > Get Info, and click Artwork. To add art to the selected item, click Add (or drag the art file from your desktop to the artwork viewer). Click Next to add artwork to the next item.
To add the same artwork to multiple items, hold down the Command key as you click each item, choose File > Get Info, click Artwork, and drag the art file to the artwork viewer.
To add more than one piece of art to a song, drag more than one image to the same artwork box.

  • Importing video in iTunes 12

I have a couple of complaints about importing video into iTunes 12.  When I
    (1) When changing the media type to TV Show, you have the save that change, then move to TV Shows, find the file then add the Show Info.  In previous versions, you could do all of that from the Home Movies section, which was a much more streamlined process.
    (2) iTunes does not move the file out of the Home Movies folder into the appropriate TV Show folder like it did in previous versions when you change the media type and label the Show Info.
I miss the sidebar like crazy, too!

For #2 going into Edit > Preferences > Advanced and turning Keep iTunes Media folder organized off, and then turning it back on again, should trigger iTunes into moving the files around to match the selected media kind.
Consolidation only applies to content initially located outside of the iTunes Media folder.

  • Importing issues from itunes into garageband

I am having trouble importing songs from Itunes into garageband. This has happened sometime within the last 3-4 weeks or so and the first time I noticed it was today. It won't let me click and drag from itunes. It just bounces back.  I am able to go into my finder and click & drag the file, so it's not a copyright issue...besides, I tried dragging from itunes a song I've already used in garageband and it's not working either. I updated itunes yesterday...could this be the problem???
I haven't updated to iLife..to be honest, don't really know much about it, because every time I click on the "tell me more" tab, it says it can't redirect me to the page that has the info on it ....*Gahhh* frustrating!  ...could there be some kind of plug-in or something missing?  I'm not super-techy, but I can do enough to get me by...Any help you guys can provide me with would be greatly appreciated!!

I am also having the same problem.  i can drag the files out of the music folders but I can not drag any file out of the itunes screen.  The files are .mp3 and are in lowercase letters.  I tried a recommended fix where the files were reconverted in iTunes, but trying conversions in both .mp3 and .aiff did not work. Also, trashing a certain preference file was recommended on a discussions board but that did not work either. Until there is a solution, I'll have to work in Audacity.

  • Importing CDs to itunes

    Hello,
I've been having some problems importing music into itunes from CD. I've had no luck with the hypothesis that itunes is to blame so I thought I'd see if anyone had had a similar experience with their disk drive.
The problem only occurs when importing music files through itunes. All other types of data seem to copy over normally when dragged and dropped. This problem occurs sporadically and randomly. It doesn't occur evey time.
A music CD will often stop importing half way through and leave me with no choice but to force quit itunes.
Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't got very far with the itunes forums other than a few people with similar experiences and no solution. Could the drive need cleaning? Can this be done on a Mac Book Pro? Or is the problem more serious?
    Many thanks,
    Thom

If I play the CD directly from itunes, the track will play perfectly. The problem only occurs when importing through itunes. The problem has occurred when importing both older and brand new, fresh from the box, CDs.
The encoding is set to MP3 encoder at High Quality (160 kbps) in itunes preferences. The CDs in question are CDs bought from a shop, not MP3 disks. I have the latest version of itunes available.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Still looking for the permanent answer.
    Thom
