No input signal (relates to Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5)

Hi
I have scoured the net and this forum for solutions to this bizarre problem, but found nothing that solved my problem. Alos posted this question on the Native Instruments forum, but have had no replies).
Tech details:
I have a MAC Mini 10.8.3. My audio Interface is a Steinberg UR22. I use Logic Pro 9.1.8.
I have downloaded the GR 5 demo. It shows up and loads fine in Logic. Unfortunately, however, there is no input signal at all coming through to GR. Input and output paths in both MAC and Logic are all switched correctly to Steinberg. Audio Software Monitoring is also selected in Logic Audio. I have also selected and deselected the L and R channel icons in GR with no results, still no input signal. I have swapped audio input channel on the Steinberg. The cable works and is plugged in so it's not one of those Duh! moments either.
Now the funny part: As mentioned, when I open GR inside a Logic project, I get no input signal.
However, when i go to my NU folder and open GR there, I do get an input signal. I also get the 'file' etc tabs at the top and am able to check settings etc (which of course you can't do when you open GR inside Logic). However, any changes made in GR when it is opened in the folder do not affect the GR opened inside Logic, so there is no point changing anything in the settings.
The only other strange thing is that in the GR that does have an input signal...it plays both the GR sound that is selected as well as the 'dry' guitar sound, therefore messing up the real sound.
The fact that I do get a signal in GR when I open it outside of Logic does not help me at all, I need a signal in GR inside of the Logic project so i can make a test recording.
Does anyone here have a any suggestion or tips please?

First... when a plugin is used in Logic it is not standalone, in other words, If you aren't getting signal into Logic the plugin will not receive signal on it's own, that's not the way it works. The GR demo is inserted in Logic's signal path, if the signal is not getting into logic it's not going through the GH.
Alos, Logic runs indepently from the Mac's Audio preferences, so it doesn't matter what you set the Mac's system preferences to, it's only matters how you have Logic's preferences set.

The system extension "/system/library/Extensions/AppleUSBthernetHost.text" was installed improperly and cannot be used.
Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product vendor for an update.
I do not have a copy of the OS X 10.6.8 software. It is second hand so I have no product vendor to contact.
What can I do?

You recently updated iTunes to v.11.4? This message has popped up on many a Mac screen when this version was first made available, because this kext was obviously faulty.
You should try to download iTunes 11.4 again from Apple's website: the new version bears the same name, but this kernel extension has been updated, and the issues it was causing are now a thing of the past.
Should solve your problem, too...

• Using Native Instruments' Guitar Rig 4 as a VST Plug-in

Hello,
Does anyone know how to get Native Instruments' Guitar Rig 4 to work as a VST plug-in? I scanned the containing folder for the plug-in and Audition said it was active, but when I scroll through effects and selct VST, but when I try to select Guitar Rig 4 it is grayed and I can't select it. What, if any, are some solutions to this problem? Thanks for any assistance provided.

As far as I can make out (although it's hard to tell from their website, which is less than forthcoming) Guitar Rig is a VSTi, not a VST and as such, you need music software to run it, not Audition - which is an editor.

• Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5 VST Greyed out?

Hi,
I am on the verge of uninstalling audition cs 5.5 and moving to cubase for just over £400.00. I have read alot about how some of the features not included in this version compares to Audition 3.0 but thats ok with me ...as long as the basics work such as VST plugins. A basic requirement. I have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit plugin. The 64-bit VST plugin isnt even recognised? the 32 bit is recognised but is greyed out.
I know some VST plugins are greyed out if the wrong settings are used. e.g. stero/mono, 41000, 48000 etc. but have tried different variations.
Can anyone help?

Yes, except when Adobe released Audition 3. And how MIDI in Audition 3 was in the way of audio editing or radio broadcasting?
Debatable...
"Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® Audition® 3 software, a major new release of the all-in-one solution for professional audio production. Adobe Audition 3 is designed to give audio professionals — sound designers, recording and mastering engineers, and musicians — a flexible production toolkit for recording, mixing, editing, and mastering audio. With comprehensive audio mastering and restoration capabilities, Adobe Audition 3 helps professionals create music and radio spots, as well as restore imperfect recordings with sophisticated editing tools. New features include VSTi virtual instrument support with MIDI piano roll, enhanced spectral editing options, fast fade and crossfade controls, and advanced multi-core support."
And it goes on in that vein. The closest it gets is the bit that I highlighted, and the word 'support', and nowhere anywhere does it mention music creation per se at all. I'd grant you that it gets close - but only in the sense that Loopology was supported - which is pretty much the sense in which you have to read the bit that says "Adobe Audition 3 allows audio professionals to easily create and arrange music, record and mix a project, produce a radio spot, clean up production audio for a movie, or edit a soundtrack for a business presentation."
And a lot of people would disagree with the sentiment that it was 'easy'...

• Audition CS5.5 and Guitar Rig 4/5

I've just installed AA CS5.5 as a trial, and I found a strange conflict with Native Instruments Guitar Rig VST plugin. The software recognizes the plugin smoothly in the plugin manager, but it just stays greyed out, so I can't use it.
I've tried with Guitar Rig 4 & 5, with no luck. Both work perfectly on Adobe Audition 3. I'm using Windows XP SP3 and M-Audio Fast Track Pro with ASIO drivers. Anybody experiencing the same issue?

Okay, I've spent some time this morning looking at Guitar Rig 5 in CS5.5 and CS6. Guitar Rig can install a lot of flavors of audio plug-in depending on your need. Audition only cares about the VST and Audio Unit (on Mac.)
There was an issue we found in Audition CS5.5 where some effects don't properly report their channelization. While not technically an Audition bug (it's part of the VST spec, I believe) we were not trapping these wayward plug-ins, which is why you saw Guitar Rig listed, but disabled. We addressed this issue in Audition CS6 by catching plug-ins that do not respond to channel requests as expected and assigning them as appropriate.
Guitar Rig is now enabled in Audition CS6 VST Effects List
More importantly, Audition CS6 opens up some pretty impressive effect channelization options which allow you to route the channels of a file into an effect in any manner you like. This allows you full control over which channel is assigned to which effect input, and which channel the output should be applied.
Feeding a 5.1 file into a Mono effect now enables precise control over channel routing.
Full control over 5.1 files into 5.1 effects as well. Any combination of channelizations and effects should work well.
Lastly, here's Guitar Rig 5 running in Audition CS6. While it definitely works, I do not recommend modifying this particular guitar track. Much like trying to pitch correct Freddie Mercury, Keith Richards guitar work does not benefit from additional processing

• Problem with Guitar Rig 4 in GarageBand

Hello everyone, I've got a problem with Guitar Rig 4 in GarageBand (I've got a brand new MBP 2011 received last week, so I've got Lion), when I click on "scan" to import presets, only 5 presets appear : "flicker" "overdriven" "pure rammfire A" and B and C, does somebody know why ? those 5 presets are located in the same folder as all the other presets... I really don't understand
Thank you !

Hey mate,
I've had exactly the same problem for quite some time. But I just found a solution. I signed up here just to share it with you, so I hope it works like it did for me!
So try this:
Go to HD/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Guitar Rig 4/Demo DB and copy those 3 files.
Next, open HD/Users/Username/Documents/Native Instruments/Guitar Rig 4/Db and overwrite the files there with the ones you copied.
Voila! Hope it helps!

• NI Guitar Rig Pro 4 as a plug -n for Logic Studio/Garageband?

Hi,
I have Logic 9 and use AmpDesigner/Pboard via an Apogee GIO for both my guitar and bass - Sounds great. However I've just been goofin around with a mate on his Macbook Pro using Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4 with their Control 3 foot pedal - ummm don't wanna say this but that sounds great too! I really like the interface and patch library and some of the presets did sound bloody great to me.
So my question is ...
Is it possible to use NI Guitar Rig v4 in Logic 9 studio/mainstage? as a plugin? maybe mix and match Amp Designer and or Guitar Rig in one song? I'm sure I read somewhere that you could use non Apple plugins in Garageband.
Anyhow

• Why am I not getting any input signal into logic X or GarageBand from my audio interface?

Hello all,
I'm completely new to all this so I will try my best here to give all the details needed.
So, I am using a Mac mini (2013 model: i7 overclocked at 2.6, 16 gbram) and a focusrite saffire pro 24DSP. Overall both are in perfect working order.
My problem, however, is that I am seemingly unable to get any form of signal from my saffire into either Logic X or GarageBand. I am trying to record guitar lined in and I have set all the settings in logic to what I think is right (software monitoring checked, output channels selected, saffire selected for both input and output) and I have set up my saffire mix control - I spent days reading the manual and watching online tutorials.
The saffire mix control is set up thus:
Input 1 - instrument
Daw 1+2 = GarageBand
Daw 3+4 = Logic X
Sample rate 41Khz
Master Output = stereo monitor mix (line outs 1 &2 to my monitor speakers)
Output 3+4 headphones
Is there anything missing here?
As far as this all goes, when I plug in my guitar I can get a very clear "raw" signal from the saffire mix control, but when I then go to set up a track in either DAW and assign the necessary line ins and outs, no matter what I do I cannot get an input signal, not even a partial one (I have the monitoring and record armed options checked btw). I am close to giving tearing my hair out.
I'm sure I am just missing something out?
Thanks in advance :-)

I've plugged into the interface a mic and an electric guitar.
I'm not sure what I did but the guitar is coming through (though it shows no signal on the interface). Mic input level on line, mic registers a tiny bit of sound when I hit the mic (on only one channel) but doesn't register any vocals when mic input is turned up to the max.
Odd thing: stereo/mono button reversed that is when the button is pushed in it equals stereo on the head phones when it says it should be mono and when the button is left unpushed it equals mono when it says it should be stereo.
Monitor is on and volume is at max.
GB system preferences don't list Input 1 or/and 2. Where do I find them?
I've tried everything I can think of. It feels as if I just need to find the right switch but I don't know where to look...

• Can I use a MIDI keyboard as an input device for a software instrument?

I have a Casio CTK-2100 that I am currently playing around with in Logic Pro 9. It can record and playback the different instruments fine using MIDI tracks. But I was wondering if it is possible to use the keyboard as an input device for a software instrument instead of the "Step Input Keyboard".
Is it? If so, how do I set it up?

Yes, the terminology can be a bear, many, many years ago when I started using Logic the manuals were written completely by the programmers, while they were quite humorous in places the were also really hard to understand so I learned/realized.. you can't really do anything so wrong it's going to destroy your computer so why not go ahead and experiment. I learned the basics of Logic without a manual, months later when I went back to find some some details I could figure out the manual made a lot more sense.
Logic has been somewhat Appleized but it's not really an Apple program, it was purchased almost as developed as it is now... a lot of the additions a fluff to make it easier to understand for new users while at the same time there are some real improvements.
This is personal opinion: With all of the forums/online tutorials...etc...etc. It seems users are learning (but not understanding) the same things, plus everyone wants to use it right away so nobody takes a deep breath and investigates on their own. Logic is a deep, deep program, while learning don't be afraid to go off on a tangent and explore the program without any other input, it can actually be inspirational. One other thing good about the manual or "Online Help", in looking up a function you will invariably come across a related concept that will provide further insight.
And..... have fun.

• Can't find plugins directory when installing Native Instruments Komplete

Hi - I recently tried to install Native Instruments Komplete and the installation stops with a message saying that 'setup could not find your browser's plugins directory - click browse and locate the plugins directory - to install to this directory click install - you may install the plugin into a different directory but the plugin may not work properly with your browser. The default directory that it shows me (presumably the one it can't find?) C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash.
I went to Native Instruments with this problem, but they have told me to go to Adobe saying that, 'The error message you are receiving is related to the Flash Player and not to the NI installation - so please contact Adobe for assistance with this.'
Can anyone help please? Thanks! (I'm running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) with Service Pack 1)

Hi Pete,
I would have expected Flash Player to be installed with the Suite, but I don't think it will hurt to install it again (in fact, you'll get the most up to date version if you haven't upgraded recently.)
Flash Player on windows comes in two flavors. One is an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, the other is a plugin for all other browsers. One thing to note, if you're on a 64 bit machine the directory for the Flash Player files will be different than a 32 bit install. Here's where you typically find them:
32 bit: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
64 bit: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

• Acquiring two input signals simultaneously

Hi,
I have an LVDT and a force sensor (both attached to a motor) plugged into my SC board and I am trying to read out & save the output data from both sensors simultaneously while the motor is in motion. The SC-2350 board is connected to the laptop via DAQCard 6036E . Two questions:
1) in my block diagram, the DAQ assistant blocks for both sensors are wired to their respective waveform graphs (one for the LVDT signal and one for the force signal), the whole being included in a while loop (which remains true until the motor stops moving). When running the program, only one signal is read out at a time and I have no control on which signal is transmitted (this seems to occur in a random fashion). Do I need to "link"/synchronize the two DAQ assistants in some ways so that both signals will appear simultaneously? If so, how would it be possible?
2) ideally, I'd like to read out both input signals on the same graph (with 2 different y-scales but the same time scale) to observe the phase shift. I tried to "bundle" the two data output coming from the two DAQ assistants but it resulted in an error saying that the two outputs were of different types. Is there a way to plot these two physical quantities on the same graph even though they're different and come from different sensors?
Thanks for your help!
Thibault.

Hello Dani,
I assume, based on your position sensors and the image you posted, that you are using counters to acquire your data. Is this correct? If so, it is important to note that you cannot add multiple counter operations to a single task because they have different timing requirements and all channels in a single task must share the same timing and triggering. In fact, if you attempt to add a second counter channel to a DAQ Assistant for a counter operation, you will receive the following error when you try to close the configuration window:
So, you will have to use two different tasks to acquire your counter data. You can do this either by using two separate DAQ Assistants or by using two different tasks in the NI-DAQmx sub-VIs in LabVIEW. Since you are trying to compare the phase difference between the two measurements, you will also need to synchronize the operations so that you are reading from both counters simultaneously. There are several resources online which discuss synchronizing counters, and I have linked some that I thought might be useful below:
KnowledgeBase 1JPES6LL: How Do I Synchronize a Buffered Quadrature Encoder Measurement to a Signal
KnowledgeBase 3GGATSCC: Hardware Counter Start Trigger for Counter Synchronization
It would probably be easier to use the NI-DAQmx Sub-VIs to implement this synchronization because they give you more control over specific parameters of your task. You can use the NI Example Finder to browse some examples which use the NI-DAQmx sub-VIs for counters. You can open the NI Example Finder by going to Help>>Find Examples... in LabVIEW. Once in the NI Example Finder, you can find the counter examples by selecting the Browse tab and navigating to Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Counter Measurements; then you can select the Position category (shown below) to find the Position measurement examples.
Let us know if you have any other questions about taking position measurements.

• No VGA or DVI input signal

I recently found my old HP Pavilion a6228x after 2 months of not using it, and hooked it up to my w1907 monitor with a vga cable. It says that there is no VGA or DVI input signal, with the black arrow pointing at DVI. I can't switch from DVI to VGA because everytime I press the menu button, the screen will say "Monitor going to sleep." The monitor works fine with my laptop and the same vga cable. Help?

Hi,
Since the monitor and cable are known to be good then make sure that you are plugging the video card into the video card's VGA port if a a video card is installed. If the video card has a DVI port then use a native DVI cable between the monitor and the video card.
If there is a video card in your PC then try reseating it (remove and replace). If that doesn't work then remove the video card and plug the VGA cable into the motherboard's VGA port.
Only connect one active video feed to the monitor.
Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

• Guitar Rig input

I've been playing with the demo version of Guitar Rig 2. I can't seem to convince the program to see my guitar input. Other apps, like Garage Band and such see the signal fine. I'm using an iMic as a preamp. Any Guitar Rig guys have input?

On further reflection, the preferences in Guitar Rig 2 "sees' the iMic, but only as an output device, not an input, which could still indicate that the iMic isn't up to snuff as an input? I don't know, the iMic is supposed to boost the signal like a preamp to a mic level input (or is it line level? I can't keep it straight, whatever is "higher", the iMic actually has a switch so you can do either or). Why GR won't recognize it is annoying. Certainly doesn't boost my confidence where I want to shell out $600 or Guitar Rig 2 (not that I would even if it worked.....)
I guess digital music isn't my scene yet.
I should note, I'm using the "old" version of the iMic, they have been redesigned although I can't find anything anywhere that says anything about USB1 vs. USB2
