No Instances listed during installation of SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU
Hello,
I'm doing a fresh SQL installation on a new server using SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU.exe (315,461KB).
I clicked Run As Administrator, and when I get to Select Features the Instaces list is empty.
I did the same process on another server last month and don't recall running into this.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott
Hello,
You cannot install a new instance from a service pack. You need to obtain the full SQL Server media.
Hope this helps.

How to set instance number during installation?
We want to install PI 7.1 on the same host as solman 7.0 using multiple oracle homes.
The solman instance is 00. So will there be a conflict if the PI instance is also 00? If yes, how do we set the instance no. during installation? (During solman installation we did not come across any step where we had specifically entered the instance no...)
Additional info:
OS = Windows 2003 Server R2 Ent x64
Solman has both, ABAP and Java stacks active
ThanksHi Pankaj,
Thanks for your response.
It seems that sapinst itself detected our existing instances and assigned 02 and 03 for the PI instances.
We did not have to manually change the values. We have successfully completed the installation.
I am facing a new problem now. The solman instances cannot be seen in the sapmmc, only the PI instances are seen. The link is [here|Cant see instance in sapmmc after installation;. Let me know if you have the solution.
Thanks -

Hi,
I am installting SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 with DB oracle 10g OS solaris 10 jdk version java version "1.4.2_16"

during installation at Import ABAP phase while importing last package SAPSSEXC it hung on me there were no error logs as such nor the FS was full...
it resumed after couple of hrs..
but hung again at IMport Java Dump phase
and again no error logs...
so, my concern here is that is there any bug in SR3 or i am not able to find the error logs

Error during installation on step 6
Hi all,
Like some of you, I have installed and uninstalled the SP15 full java editions about 15 times now. I got my first error at the Install Temporary License step. Since then I have uninstalled, deleted registry entries and a whole bunch of steps, and am currently stuck at step 6 MaxDB Database Installation step. The error is
ERROR 2006-01-16 15:46:21

When I go to the log file the detailed information is as follows.

I believe I am not able to successfully un-install MaxDB. Any hints? I always uninstall MaxDB before I start installing, and somehow the database entries still seem to persist like a ghost in the machine.
Thank you for your help.
Regards
Sumit.Hi,
The way I solved this problem was
<b>1.</b> Uninstall the entire netweaver installation.
<b>2.</b> Log into windows in safe mode, by pressing F8 during installation, and then deleting the SAPDB directory.
<b>3.</b> I deleted the following registry entries.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAP DBTech
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP\SAP DBTech
Thank You.

Itunes 11.1.1 Errors occurred during installation...
Errors occurred during installation before Itunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installatoin, run the instaler again. Click Finish to exit the installer. I've tried re installing iTunes 11.1.1 multiple times and I've redownloaded the file. Has this happend to anyone? If so what was the resolution to fix it? Thank You [:
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Windows XP can't connect to OfficeJet 4630 during installation
Just bought a new OfficeJet 4630 and am very excited to use its wireless features. I got it connected to our in-home wireless router (Netgear) very easily, typing the WEP key right into the printer's keypad. I was subsequently able to install it on my DELL Latitude, from which I can print wirelessly or plugged in to USB, as well as cloud printing and ePrinting. Test pages, alignment pages, etc., all have printed just fine. My wife's acer netbook is another story. She's running Windows XP and has hit a major snag in the installation process. Whether we install the software and drivers from the internet download location specific to the OfficeJet 4630 or with the included CD, it makes it past the step of installing software but encounters an error when it is time to connect to the printer. The software has us choose whether to connect wirelessly, over USB, or later, and following the on screen instructions for either wireless or USB leads to the same error: The computer is unable to connect to the printer at this time.
During installation, when we choose to connect wirelessly and the installation software shows us a list of network printers to choose from, the OfficeJet shows up and we can select it - we can also find it by typing in the IP Address (10.0.0.9) into the Advanced Search bar. We can type the IP address into the web browser and see the printer's EMS and edit various options. We've made sure that my wife's computer is on the Workgroup MSHOME (since I read somewhere that OfficeJets only like to work on that workgroup and not any others). I've followed every other possible instruction given by either HP or these forums (disabling firewalls, startup services, uninstalling and re-installing HP software, etc.) and still, every time, a connection error whether we use Wi-Fi or USB.
We are getting really desparate to use this beautiful machine to its fullest potential - someone please help! What is the IP address of your modem? What is the IP address of the router? With a 10.x.x.x IP tells me you may have a double NAT situation at home. This basically means your router will change it's IP to 10.x.x.x because it's default IP is the same as the modem. Connect just to your modem and what is the IP? Now connect JUST your router, no other connection to the modem, and what is it's IP?
You can use a cmd prompt and just type in ipconfig. What is listed as the Default Gateway for both?
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.
If my post resolved your problem, please mark it as an Accepted Solution ...

That does not automatically start your instance. Have a look at the shortcuts SAP installed in your startmenu. There's both a startscript and a stopscript. -
Boot Camp: iMac displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7 - Apple Support
I have followed each of the steps listed in the link above with no success.
Prior to adding the extra drivers I was able to start the Windows install process up to reformatting the "Windows" Bootcamp drive. After that the computer would go through some instal processes and eventually restart. After the restart the screen would go black. The black screen lead me to the Apple Support link above dated March 5 2015. After going through steps listed in the link above, I get an error message stating that the D:\Sources\instal.win. file cannot be located. I am forced to restart the computer at that point and theWindows install process attempts to start again but always ends up at the same point.
Note: I am installing windows 7 Pro from a DVD. I scanned the AutoUnattend.xml file and noticed that it refers to "Windows 7 ULTIMATE" but not "Pro" or any others that I could see. (see below). Could that be part of the issue?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

W7- Home Basic

File2

The File .wim will contains a compressed image which contains File [1...5].
The W7-Ultimate .clg will have 5 entries, with all set to 'Y'.
The W7-Professional .clg will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','Y','Y'.
The W7-Home Premium .clg will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','N','Y'.
The W7-Home Basic .clg file will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','N','N'.
This allows a single .wim Image file on the DVD media to be used to install any of the 5 flavors of Windows. When you enter your product key, the Installer knows what specific W7 variant you have the key for and will tell the WIM to extract the specific files the installer needs to be extracted.
The following line
<cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/sources/install.wim#Windows 7 ULTIMATE" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
is telling that a retail product key will be entered, which should go look for this specific .clg file (from the five you already have on disk). You can test if it will work for you by changing this line to the following
<cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/sources/install.wim#Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
If it does not work, the other issue can be related to device discovery. Typically A: and B: device names are reserved for Floppy Drives. C: is your internal HDD.
D: can either point to the Optical drive, or the USB. The normal convention is that the removable media is named from Z: backwards. Y: and Z: are usually used for Network drives, so X: should be your USB. First try with the change to "Professional". If it does not work, -
Fatal error during installation - Error 1603 ONLY on XP
My Dears,
while installing any CS3 or CS4 Adobe product for my friend, at ~90% of installation error comes up:
"Adobe Photoshop CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation."
I am struggling to solve it for 3 days now, and of corse I have seen and tryied all things proposed in posts like this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/373577 , but still nothing helps me.
Thats list of all things that I have tryied to do:
- CleanUp fix
- Uninstalling all Adobe before fix
- Turning Internet off fix
- Turning anti-vir things off fix
- Registery fix
- Starting from CLEAN new system fix
- Changing language from US to International fix
Still nothing. Probably thats the point of problem:
Current Situation:
Got ACER ASPIRE x3200 desktop width Windows Vista (preinstalled), did clean installation of Windows XP and dumped Vista
There is no official drivers for XP, but got cracked chipset driver and official nVidia 8200 driver for XP from Internet
Got all Service Packs
100% legal
If nothing is working, maybe thats becaouse of my PC?! Installed it on my laptop with Vista 32b - WORKS (it means that installation CD is not corruptet or something). But then I have tryied to install it on another laptop with XP PRO - fail as with my PC. It seems that Windows XP Pro is not good for CS3 or CS4, BUT it did months before in my old unbranded PC.
Help! I really want to install that stuff.
Best Regards,
WestmidlanderI was only speaking very generally... This is all common sense...
Adobe and other software makers are moving on from XP in their development. Thus XP becomes more and more troublesome to use as the likelihood of problems increases.
In the case of installation, a lot of very specific things are required of an installer so that it can work on Windows 7. The User Account Control (UAC) system and other security measures such as file permissions have to be completely and properly satisfied to install software on the newer systems. Indeed, the application itself even has to work differently to be compliant - reference the recent 12.0.2 issues with loading scanner drivers for example, or the fact that Photoshop needs to put some things under C:\Users\... now that always used to be put under C:\Program Files\Adobe\...
It's not hard to imagine that Adobe isn't testing software as thoroughly on XP as they once did either. Perhaps they missed one of the quirks of XP in pursuit of getting it to install properly on Windows 7.
You're putting a new cutting edge software application on an operating system designed nearly 10 years ago (an epoch in high tech). That you don't see even more problems is a testament to Adobe's committment to support XP.

"problem with shortcut/fatal error during installation" on other user accts
I-tunes installed and works with no problem in original user, but when another user account attempts to open Itunes, program attempts to install/configure again, then results in a "problem with shortcut / fatal error during installation" message. Setting the other users to administrators doesn't help, nor does un-installing/re-installing, etc. I am at least the 4th person with this problem (see Burthomp earlier today,Jan. 17 and Richard 1018 on Dec. 29). This problem started with Itunes 7.5, and is still a problem on Itunes 7.6. I have a standard Dell setup, Model E510. There must be a lot of people with this problem. Apple, are you working on this? Anyone else have a suggestion?
I ran into the same problem, but I think I have the solution. First, the problem isn't with iTunes, its an access problem with Windows XP. I tried to run the iTunes program from the Program Files, and I received an "Access Denied" error.
If you try to open the Program Files in My Computer\Local Disk(C:) and receive an "Access Denied" Error, that is why you are receiving a "shortcut problem/Fatal Error during installation".
Here is how I corrected it:
1) Shut down the computer and restart it in "safe mode". I had to look up how to do this, but I pressed F8 when it was restarting and I highlighted the "safe mode" and started the machine. The icons will be large, but ignore it.
2) Open a user that has administrative access -- I used the one user that has access to itunes.
3) Go to My Computer\Local Disk (C:) and right click on the "Program Files" folder. Select "properties" at the bottom.
4) Go to the Security Tab
5) At the top you should see one or two users that have access to the Programs File. One will be the user that itunes works on. Click Add, then click Advanced, then click Find Now.
6) At the bottom should appear a list of users. Select a user on which itunes doesn't work. Click Ok, then click OK again.
7) Give that user full access to the Program File by putting a check mark in the Full Access box.
8) Repeat for the remaining users.
9) Restart computer in normal mode.
10) Go into a user that had problems and click the itunes icon, and it should run.
It worked for me, I hope it works for you. -
Itunes 7.6 installation Fatal Error during installation
I successfully installed Itunes into my account - as the administrator. However, my other computer users users can't install the new version. The get a window that pops up: Problem with shortcut, fatal error during installation. I have tried removing and re-installing, I even followed all the steps in the trouble article #93976. I also deleted the user, created a new on, made that user an adminstrator and still can't install. HELP!
I found on another post that concerns this same topic that someone has responded with the following solution:

Itunes: Fatal Error During Installation
Yesterday my iTunes (7.3.1) was working with no problems then the iTunes + Quicktime upgrade came up telling me to download the newer version but I didnt want to download it yet untill after i restarted my computer so I exited out of both the upgrade screen and iTunes then restarted and when I tried to open up iTunes(after restarting), a little window came up saying:
+Preparing to install...+
Then after a minute or two it said: +Please wait while Windows configures iTunes+
Then another window pops up saying:
+*Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\fi.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. *+
+*Verify that you have access to that directory.*+
and I have no idea what that means so i closed it then a pop up shows saying: +Fatal Error During Installation.+
WHAT DO I DO?!?!? please help me
The details for my computer are:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2Try first going through this article to remove iTunes and Quicktime completely (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698).
After you remove everything, don't re-install yet. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301). After insalling that, remove any references of iTunes, Apple, or Quicktime in the list.
Try re-installing now. -
Power failure during installation
This isn't a question, but a cheer. While installing Yosemite on my Mac Mini, the power went out at my house. Those of us old enough can remember the warnings that used to be attached to system installs---DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER DURING INSTALLATION! So you can imagine how anxious I was when the transformer outside went thump and the lights (and my computer) all turned off, with one minute remaining in the install.
When the lights came on again, I turned on the computer and waited to see what would happen. The Mini just backed up to the last stage it had completed of the installation (23 minutes remaining) and went on from there with a flawless install. Good on ye, Apple engineers!Hello! A power failure during a sustained read/write operation such as an update will usually screw up the hard drive directory big time. Your best bet short of high dollar data rescue services is probably to get a cd/dvd that is bootable and try to repair the disk and get it to mount so you can retrieve your data. I always recommend a bootable clone for instances like this and also highly recommend DiskWarrior to repair directory damage. A power failure during an OS update likely damages the OS as well as the hard drive directory. Tom
