No Intel OS will install on white 1.83 1,1

Scratching my head on this one.... trying to wipe and reinstall OS on a white Macbook 1.83 core duo I salvaged from the recyclers. It runs fine and had an OS on it (I think it was Tiger, IIRC), and I put a new admin account on it just to get a handle on things; all that went fine but at some point I decided just to go fresh.
Trying both a disc of Tiger and a disc of Snow Leopard... in each case, I get the message that this OS can't be installed on this machine. I can pull the drive, put it in an external case, if I have to, but that seems a little out of the ordinary when you oughta be able to load from the optical.
Any ideas?

Sorry, not according to Apple's requirements as stated below.

1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space

• Will Install Disks for a MacBook (10.4.6) work on a non-Intel Mac?

I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Or will it only work on a Mac with an Intel Duo processor?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512Mb

The story has now changed somewhat. Copied from your original post in this thread.
I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Although this 10.4.6 install package for an iBook may work on your iBook, usually the build must be identical also.
A link I provided in one of my previous posts in this thread.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
This install package may install OK on your iBook but if the build is not identical, it may not work correctly after the fact.
Since the bods at the Apple Store you visited said this makes no difference - this iBook 10.4.6 install package you acquired will work on ANY non-Intel Mac, what are you worried about? Use it but to be on the safe side, I would first get the bods at this Apple Store to provide you a free exchange for a Tiger retail install install package if your install package doesn't work.

• Intel iMac will not turn on

So here's the deal: The other day I noticed things were acting buggy on my Intel Core Duo iMac (the white, matte-screen one). Performing simple tasks like opening a folder or window caused the spinning beach ball for at least 30 seconds or more. Email wouldn't open without the spinning beach ball going on for at least a minute or two. Also, there is an intermittent click coming from inside the computer. Maybe every minute or two--click.
So I restart. Things seem fine. But then the hang ups start again. So I boot from my Snow Leopard disks and run Disk Utility. Verifying permissions takes a very long time but I finally get to repair permissions. Then I try to verify the disk and repair but I get an error message in red saying something like "this disk cannot be repaired". So I shut down and try to start up from Disk Warrior. Once the Disk Warrior window comes up the iMac shuts down. I try this a couple of times.
I check the forum and try the suggestions of holding down P and R (or something like that), unplugging and pressing the "on" button before plugging it back in. Nothing works. I get to the gray screen and it shuts itself off.
After that I try to start it up as usual and when the gray screen comes up I have an apple logo and beneath that a status bar and as soon as the status bar is complete the computer shuts off. I try this a couple of times. Finally it won't even start up at all. It's as if it's not even plugged in. No chime, no internal noise, no "on" indicator light, nothing.
If my hard drive has failed, does this mean my computer will not even turn on? If my hard drive has failed and I could turn my computer on, what would I typically see? A blank screen? A question mark?
Any ideas or suggestions?

Update: So I took my iMac to the Apple store and they ordered a power supply and a new hard drive. The plan was to install the power supply and see if that's all it needed. If the hard drive was dead they would then install the drive. The wanted about $95 for the power supply, which isn't bad, and $248 for a 320 GB hard drive. Installation was going to be around $85. After I placed the order I went home and checked prices online and found I could get a 1TB hard drive for less than $120! And a 500 GB for around $60! Why would Apple charge me $248 for a 320 GB drive? During this time I also found a local Mac repair shop that was willing to install the power supply for me and, if needed, a new hard drive that I could purchase much less than Apple's price. So the parts came in and I went to the Apple store thinking I could purchase the power supply and walk out. No dice. Apple would not sell the power supply to me. They insisted they can only sell it to me if they swap it out for the one in my iMac. I told the guy, "that's okay, I only want to buy the power supply". He sort of apologized and said they can not do that. ***? Why wouldn't they sell something to a customer willing to buy it?
Long story short, all of my business is now going to the local Mac repair shop and not the Apple store. I'll never take anything that's not in warranty to the Apple store again. And I'm sure they couldn't care less.

• Intel iMac will not boot past gray screen

Intel iMac will not boot past gray screen
my system:
new (month old) 24" intel imac, 2.8 ghz, 4 gb ram.
running: leopard (upgraded from tiger, which was pre-installed at purchase), installed 10.5.1 update right before this huge problem occurred.
install discs on-hand: two-disc tiget set, single leopard upgrade disc.
what led to this:
i wanted to install windows using bootcamp on a 50 gb partition.
at this point i was running leopard 10.5
i followed all bootcamp instructions, printing out the guide, as well. once i got into the windows setup, i was prompted to choose a partition to install windows. unlike the bootcamp guide, which showed three partitions, one clearly labeled "bootcamp", i saw only one partition. not wanting to risk writing over my mac partition, i quit the setup and rebooted the mac os. after some googling around, i looked for firmware updates (didn't need any), and then software updates. i decided to try updating to 10.5.1.
i then ran through boot camp again, deleting my previous windows partition, creating a new one, and moving forward as before. once again, i was only shown one partition to choose from in the windows setup. i exited the setup again to reboot through the mac os, but this time, i was only given a blank gray screen.
here's what i have tried so far:
booting from a CD, holding down the C or D keys: no response (in fact, i have to restart the computer holding down the mouse button to be able to eject the CD)
booting with option key held down: gray screen
booting with option key held down with external bootable firewire drive attached: the firewire drive appears as a boot icon, and i can click on it within a five second window, but then the screen freezes after that time period, and nothing changes
booting into target mode while attached to another mac: gray screen (no firewire icon, and drive never shows up on other mac)
resetting NVRAM: i'm able to hear the boot chimes, but no difference in performance. gray screen every time
Safe boot: nothing but a gray screen
Verbose mode: gray screen
Single user mode: gray screen
Single user mode with firewire drive attached: occasionally (not every time), i am able to get the white on black terminal to show up. from here, i'm able to run fsck, but it appears to only be checking the firewire drive. i have tried several times to boot from here, and once it took me to a blue screen with movable arrow cursor, but it never went beyond this.
is there anything else left to try before taking it to apple?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,

I'd call Apple support at this point. You'll need
to put this issue on the record.
Call U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)
The wait may be long for an agent to come on the line
so expect that and have some other stuff to do in the meantime.
If you have the applecare protection plan, I'd ask about "onsite"
service.
I like your work ! Good luck !

Hi harrrrrsh,
Here is a helpful guide on upgrading to Win 8.1. Your system hardware seems to meet the minimum requirements.
Expand "Can my PC run Windows 8.1?" and navigate to the Win 8 Upgrade Assistant. Select run or save the Win 8 Upgrade Assistant to your desktop. Then run the upgrade assistant from the desktop for a detailed analysis of your PC and the steps needed to complete the upgrade.
Upgrading from XP to Win 8.1 is a big move and you may have device driver problems. You may also have some issues migrating third party legacy software to the Win 8.1 installation.
I have upgraded Win XP PC's to Win 7 with very few issues but have not moved an XP PC to Win 8.1.

• ISync will install but will not open.

Hi folks,
This is my first post and boy is it a doozy.
I am having a multitude of issues, of which, my own numbskulledry is the primary cause.
I am a Treo 680 user, and hence, I use Missing Sync.
All of my contacts are in Address Book within OS X and none of which are on my brand new 680 or in Palm Desktops address book.
My Macbook is also new. Now, before I bought the 680 I had a 650, and I had a rather old iBook. I have two phones, a smaller phone for my pocket when I am working, an older Moto . ON my new Macbook, I got all of my contacts off of the Moto via iSync. Now I have my new Macbook, and my new 680, I must admit, that until now, I never tried to use missing sync on the Macbook.
I have been unable to get Missing Sync and iSync to play nice at all on the Macbook.
Everytime I went to enable Palm Synching in iSync, iSync would tell me that something wasnt installed correctly. Someone suggested I trash Missing Sync and reinstall it and try again. Well that only made matters worse.
this is where things get stupid..
So I decided to Trash everything and start over. I trashed every file I could associate with iSync, Missing Sync and Palm Desktop.
So...long story short, when I went to the Apple site to DL iSync, to my surprise I find that the only version available for download, is 1.5. So, I DL'ed it and it installed, but it will not open. It just bounces in the Dock a few times, and then goes away, I've tried this both as a restricted user and logged in as the Admin; same result.
Any helpful thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much for reading.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As a general rule, you should not attempt to manually remove synchronization components manually. At this point, you are well past that note of caution but, in the future, don't attempt to do so. As you have discovered, that approach does nothing more than aggravate the issues you face.
You must first do this: reinstall the Palm Desktop, using the package bundled on CD-ROM that you received with your smartphone. [It is important that you take these steps in the order I outline. Seriously.]
Next, you should download Pacifist and use that utility to extract and install the iSync 2 package on the original Mac OS X 10.4.x that was supplied with your machine. There is now other way to perform this properly, and you cannot download a copy of iSync 2.x, which is required for use with Mac OS X 10.4 or later. To extract and install iSync, follow these instructions:
If you need to reinstall iSync, you'll need to do it in a two-step process, initially using the Pacifist utility to extract it from your original Mac OS X 10.4.x Install or Upgrade DVD.
Download Pacifist from here.
To extract and install it, launch Pacifist. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD in your optical drive and wait for it to mount. Press the now-activated Open Mac OS X Install Packages button. Wait for the window to appear—it may take some time to load all of the resources—then double click on the Contents of Essentials.pkg file to open it, double-click on the Applications folder, select iSync.app then press the Install button.
That will install a copy of iSync 2 into your Applications folder. Then run the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update for PowerPC or intel processor based machines—whichever is appropriate for your platform—to update it to release 2.4.
Those specific updaters are available at these links:
• for PowerPC: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateppc.html
• for intel: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
Once you have done that, reconfigure iSync to support your smartphone by adding using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option. You should also reset the synchronization framework by opening the Preferences… dialog and pressing the Reset Sync History… button. Quit iSync.
Launch the Address Book and use the built-in option under the File menu to back up your contact records. Do the same with iCal, using its built-in option to back up your event and task records.
At this point, if you intend to use iSync, initiate a synchronization event and choose Replace to overwrite the contents of your handheld, unless—by doing so—you would lose information on it that is not in iCal or the Address Book. If that is the case, you must instead choose Merge.
Once you have done that, examine all of the records in iCal and the Address Book and make any additions, deletions or modifications you wish to to your contact, event and task data. Back each set up once again.
Then reinstall the Missing Sync, and use the option to overwrite the contents, this one time, of your handheld with the individual Mark/Space Contact, Events and Tasks conduits. Once that has been completed, make any category or group changes to your records on the Palm, and synchronize as you would normally.
If you are stumped at any point or encounter something you do not understand, STOP and ask about it. And whatever you do, don't delete anything related to your synchronization framework except individual application preferences files, should that be necessary.

• Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro?

Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro? If so, is it worth it?
I currently run OSX 10.7.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb mem.

Does it meet the specs for Lion?
Are your third apps compatible?
I'd also be sure to have at least 4GB RAM and 10-15% free space on your HDD.

• Intel Core Duo install

I have one of the early Intel iMacs, before the Core 2 Duo, when it was just Core Duo. Will Snow Leopard install on this machine as easily as a Core 2 Duo?

It will install just as well presumably, as V.K. says. He also raised the RAM issue. If you have only 1 GB of RAM, then SL is not likely to perform as well as a newer machine that is likely to have more than 1 GB. For your machine you are good to go with 2 to 4 GB.

• HT201364 Upgrading from 10.7 to 10.9 on MBP 3GB memory Intel CPU - Will it work?

I'm told by the guru at one of the Apple shops my MBP will not support maverick.  But the various resources advise if it has an Intel CPU it should!  So before I race off and upgrade, could someone in Apple assure me it will work!
I upgraded to Lion before Christmas and have lost the use of MacOffice, thus before I buy Pages and Numbers which I'm told now only work on Maverick, I need assurances!
Having used Apple products for a few years now as you can see below, in general I've been quite satisfied, but this lack of cross product/version compatibility is unprofessional in the extreme.  Understand the marketing and sales rationale for it, but I hate being a victim to compartmentalised product strategies.
Your advice most welcom.

Not all Intel processors will meet Mavericks requirements. The complete list of eligible models is below.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

I am going to buy either a Mac Air or Mac Pro Retina 8GB RAM and 256GB. And as I have to still run Windows programs I will install Parallels 9. As the Mac are both 64bit machines does that mean I need to install Windows 7 64bit or just install 32 bit? (Going with Win7 as I hate Win8). And I will install Office Pro 2013 64 bit too or 32 bit or is that automatically selected by the underlying OS (I use Word, Excel and Access mainly for a membership database of a local club) ? I am not a power user so would appreciate advice on way to go

Again thank you.  If I only use word, excel and access in the Win environment and Mac OS for email and safari for internet do I need anti virus software . Ie my connection to the world is mac only and I use office pro only to ruin the club, newsletters, membership database etc. and of course anything I do there can drag/drop to the mac environ to email.  That's my understanding anyway.  Next will my existing .pst file copy directly into mac mail or do I have to runs translator  as I recall reading something about that ages ago when I started thinking Mac

• Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers

Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers?
I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin
printer management with 10.6, I recommend you read the relevant server manuals regarding

Does anyone have
an idea maybe??
Vmware Version is: 6.0.2 build-1744117
Host: Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1
WIN2012RT Iso is: 9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_DE-DE-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_DE-DE_DV9.ISO DOWNLOAD: http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/evalcenter/dn205286.aspx

Ok. I could finde out the Problem.
I uninstalled VMware witht RevoUninstaller and deleted all Vmware sysfolders and all regKeys.
Important note:
The first Installtion was on the 2nd Hard disk on my PC. These Harddisk was Connected via USB3 Port. VMware was successfully installed, and via the standart installation procedure the ISO files could be installed in Vmware, but the problem persist with
WIN2012RT server.
After a new installation of VMware into the Local C: Drive. The Win2012RT.Iso could be installed. With this procedure
without Issues: http://www.techieshelp.com/server-2012-windows-cannot-read-the-setting-from-the-unattend-answer-file/

• Where can i download a driver for HP PC 1400 that will install on my mac

I can download a package from HP that says it will install the software needed to install on my mac (running ver 10.8.2) but even when I override the allow package to be installed from anyone, it doesn't work. anybody know abou

Hi,
The software for your printer is available from Apple Software Update and not as any installer from teh HP site.
Follow the steps below to install the printer on Mountin Lion:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03378792&tmp_task=setupCate gory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=441116&sw_lang=
For any issue getting the drivers be sure to reboot your Mac and try again.
If there are still issues getting the driver, install the package below and then add the printer under Print & Scan:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Shlomi

• How do I create a package that will install a shell script?

From various sources I have made this shell script which creates a hidden admin user, starts ard and sshd.
I would like to make this a package which will run on a machine on first boot. (I'm using deploystudio to deploy ML)
It creates a hidden user called testuser1 with the password of password1
# Create user record in directory services
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1 RealName "testuser1"
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1 UniqueID 401
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1 PrimaryGroupID 20
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1 UserShell /bin/bash
dscl . -passwd /Users/testuser1 "password1"
# Set up a hidden home folder
dscl . -create /Users/testuser1 NFSHomeDirectory /var/testuser1
cp -R /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj /var/testuser1
chown -R testuser1:staff /var/testuser1
# Grant admin & ARD rights
dseditgroup -o edit -t user -a testuser1 admin
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart -activate -configure -access -on -users testuser1 -privs -all -restart -agent
# Tell loginwindow not to show the user
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow Hide500Users -bool TRUE
# Alternate: defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow HiddenUsersList -array testuser1
# start remote login ssh
systemsetup -setremotelogin on
I'm using package maker but it keeps failing. If I add it from somewhere like my Documents dir it says it will give my username the permissions instead of root. If I add it from / and make root the owner packagemaker errors probably because my user doesn't have the rights to it. I want it to copy somewhere then maybe have another script that copies to the same location and does an rm to remove the previous script so no admin details are left on the machine

Basicilly I want to roll out an image that will work with all models of macs which are comaptible with Mountain Lion. To do so I'm using deploystudio with the installESD.dmg as the image. This way it will install the relevant drivers for each model of mac. So the image should work whether it's a mac pro tower/mac mini/macbook.
Upon completetion deploystudio lets you run packages so I would like the script above to be in a package. I don't want it even to copy the script anywhere I would just like it to run the .sh file I've made if thats possible?
I'm just not sure what steps to take with packagemaker, I've never used it before.
But yeah the ultimate goal is: upon installation completetion setup hidden admin user that will have ssh and ard access.
